With some WM6 ROMs, one can turn the phone off and keep WMP playing. The DOPOD ROM acts this way but the BA WM6 and the Sprint WM6 Titan shut off WMP when the phone is turned off.
Does anywone know a hack or have a .cab to keep the music playing when the phone's turned off?
Thanks
in the forums there was devicelock cab which can just lock the device and turn off the screen which prevents the working programs of closing

Just a small trick for you guy, without having to install any new software or cabs, but using your current WMP:
1. Turn on your WMP,
2. Go to Menu / Options
3. Chose tab Buttons (at the end to the right)
4. Scroll down to the bottom and you will see "Toggle Screen"
5. Select "Toggle Screen" and click Assign button.
6. Press any arrow button (up or down, as right and left are assigned to Previous and Next already) to assign to this function (I chose "up").
7. OK and done.
Now when you play WMP, you just need to press that button and the screen is totally off.
Enjoy listening! Cheer!
There is a little trick to it
Just keep your WMP playing and do not minimize or toggle back to Today Screen or anywhere else. Jus keep WMP your active program and then press I/O button jus once, your PPC will get off, but you should know thats only the backlight thats getting off. Yep if you want more than your backlight to get off, proceed with the tweak as someone is hinting here. But why tweak your PPC?
Install GS Player and make a hot key for "display off & lock".
put slide to unlock and set it turn off with backlight.
minimize wmp.
wait backlight to off or run s2u.
it turn off ur screen without pausing the wmp and also lock the device so u can put it in cover or pocket.

ever tried to use this regkeys:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\Preferences]
"UnattendedPlayback"=dword:1
"FastCacheReserve"=dword:800000
"LocalCacheReserve"=dword:800000
it means turn off screen, not phone. there r so many software can turn off screen: pbar, pocketplus...
Thanks guys. I'll try some of these out. My BA is working great with WM6.

I tried this but it didn't work. Thanks anyway. Any other ideas? I notice that on my hermes, there are similar registry settings. It works on the Hermes. But not on the BA or Kaiser
Instead of WMP...
You should try PocketMusic... it's much better than WMP... aside from what you want to happen...
it has a graphic equalizer... a Bass booster... an alarm option... and i think a better playlisting...

I wrote a small piece of code to switch between vibrate and sound on. I've created the cab installer. Just follow the instruction below to install it.
1. Just install the cab.
2. Map Button 5 (Press & Hold) to 'Vibra (Switch)'.
Whala... you just got a vibrate switch just like an HTC Wizard!
To start the program in delayed mode you need to apply the /d switch. However, I've created a shortcut for the delayed mode as Vibra (Switch) Delayed. Because of this, you're forced to install the program in the main memory as I don't know how to create a shortcut with parameters in the Cab installer. Anybody care to teach me how?
UPDATES
v1.32 : added switch '/d' to delay 1.0 second start up
v1.31 : Fix bug where flight mode toggle was toggled even when button has been release on silent mode. Also optimized button handling to detect button release during buzzing and in between.
v1.3 : Hold the button even longer (approx another 2 second), will toggle flight mode (while retaining current normal/vibrate/silent settings).
v1.2 : Hold the button longer (approx 1 second), will set the phone to silent mode. (This only works with App button 1-6)
v1.1 : Now run with '/q' parameter to switch mode without vibrating the phone.
EDIT:
There's no more update or any changes will be made to this program as I've lost the source code.
Works great!
Thank you!
Thanks, it works perfect here too. I added it to the wiki FAQs.

Alternatively you can use AEButton Plus and map your wheel button (#0086) long press to the shortcut you just made. To map this you probably need to focus on say Shift Key first by clicking on it once. Else your wheel button will press the cancel button when trying to map the key.
one problem though, if you map to #0086, the button still clicks when you hold the button down.
So, you might want to map it to stick to the Button 5 instead.

I made the vibrate to sound on a 200 ms vibrate though. Slightly different from HTC Wizard.

Great Woooork!
Now i also hacked "Profiles Swtich Application" from IDO and Eten,
If you interested in them,,,you can try.
I tested on my Himalaya WM5 and Vario II and work well.
<Auto answer function of IDO Profiles was missing>
How about thoes???
Interesting (and good!) work guys, will try both sometime in the very near future
Can anyone do this?
don't you think it would be awesome if there was a way you could push a button on the today screen that scrolled through these four settings,
Silent
Silent & Vibrate
Ring
Ring & Vibrate
And it showwed you on the today screen what setting your on. I don't mean just the ringtone though, I mean all notifications. So when your out you can have it on vibrate cos its in your pocket but when ur at home it don't wobble across the table and disturb everyone without u having to change the settings for each individual alert.
I've tried the ScenariosE program and the Profiles program and they are both half way there. I notice on both of em there is a show icon option? But where does it show the Icon as to what profile u are on. and why does it only change ur ringing tone, not your messages and notifications?
I feel that if we could get this perfect we could really be onto something. I know a fair few people with WM devices that could really benefit from it.
Is there anything that does this or does anyone know enough about the hardware to make something that does this?
EDIT
just noticed whereas profiles doesn't seem to work at all on my Vario II, have found that ScenriosE does only affect the vibrate settings for the atual ringtones and if you adjust volumes using ScenariosE it only affects the notifications volume. The slider for the ringtones does nothing??? Very strange
ipaq hwl69xx and 65xx has today plugin and what u want.
i am on the way to hack!
Just installed the vibra switch cab and assigned to button 3 (the comms. manager, at least on the Vario 2) - works beautifully. Love the much shorter vibrate when it goes off vibra to signify it's back on ringtones again... Nice touch.
The Comms Manager button seemed like the natural choice to me, as it has a little icon of a circle with waves coming out of it, so it fit the bill quite nicely. Anyways, my Comm. Manager is bound to my right softkey, so the button was redundant anyway

Is there no way we can get round this? I'm dying to be able to turn off and on the vibrate function on my alerts? There must be someone out there that has seen something about this?
Or how about just a file that switches off power to the vibrator? Something that simple would be awesome, the phone doesn't know not to vibrate, it still trys but theres no power to the vibrator, n u can switch it on and off. Far short of modding the hardware and adding an extra switch somewhere (seems a bit ott) is there a way we can do it!

It is possible to obtain the icon of the program of red or black color?
The color gray is little visible.

i want to use my magician as an mp3 player, but is it possible to turn the screen of while playing audio? maybe there is some application or mediaplayer which let me turn the screen off to save battery power? is it even possible to turn the screen off while playing audio (thus using the pda function)?
I use VJ device lock. It locks the device and then turns off the screen. You will have to create a shortcut that runs the app with this flag: -pwroff
I have mine setup on the right soft key and it works a treat.
http://www.vijay555.com/?Releases:VJDeviceLock
or use GSplayer, it has an option "display off"
pBar is also a good alternative...and it is a good task manager...IMHO
gsplayer is nice, i especially like the button assignment (next, forward etc.) which works with the screen of.
vjdevice lock does not work (invalid pocketpc application error). pbar looks nice!
i already was looking for a task manager, so i'll try pbar out!
any experience with how much running time you get out of a single charge when using as a mp3player with screen off?
thanx
Theres a setting in Media player, to tell it what to do when you press the middle button. Mine is set to turn the screen off which works great.
I just want to request all developers if you can make a program that dims the backlight set by the user. Like Nokia phones, its backlight changes when ur not hitting the keypad for several seconds and then back again when you press a button. It (I think) saves more battery. But if your using a program, like watching movies, the backlight don't dim.
Thanks for reading anyway!
hehe!
Not sure, but I think that's already the case natively in WM6... At least, on my PPC the backlight dims after a few seconds when not touching it...
if i could have a little starting-pushup..maybe i could..but it can be done using Mortscript
wait, doesn't windows mobile natively do that, as Mollusk said? Just go into Settings>System>Backlight
and
Settings>System>Power
Set the Backlight timout to be lower than the "Turn off Device if not used for:" timer in the Power settings.
Applications will have to have inbuilt functionality to keep the backlight alive while the application is active; one such example I know of is TCPMP/Coreplayer. Somewhere in the settings for those two apps, there's a "Backlight keepalive" setting. You'll have to look for a similar setting in other applications.
I think what you're saying, though, is to develop a program that essentially acts as if every single application had a "Backlight Keepalive" setting... That'd be pretty handy. +1 to that idea
No thats not what he mented to say..If you have ever used a NOKIA handset you will notice that when you lock the keypad or leave the phone like this (when not locked )..the light DIMS off slightly...just like in N 6630

yes... That's what I meant.
I really just don't know if other PPC do that natively, but in Hima, there's no settings for dimming backlight.

I made a similar program that fades the screen out when you press the power button, and fades back in when your resume your PPC.
It's in a very unstable testing phase for now, tho ... and I don't know how to bind it to the power button!
find it at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=384543
I did some searching but wasn't really able to find a way to do this...
I'm wondering if there is an app somewhere I can easily assign to a button or shortcut that will turn off the display of the device while having it remain on...
Like in Resco Pocket Radio.. you can click "display off" and it just turns the display off but still plays... this would be nice as a stand-alone app for the ones that dont have it included.. such as Media Player.
Anyone have a link to one or know if this exists anywhere currently?
Thanks
is this it?

you could try this little screensaver application from phmtools.
just place the exe somewhere on your device, and run it to blanck screen. Press central 'enter' button to get screen back.
Try deltalock too. It's quite flexible and worked with my Tomtom when nothing else did.
If you look at MediaPlayer options (from the player screen Menu->Options...) you will find a Button tab.
There you will be able to bind an hardware button to "Toggle screen" action.
There is no need for external progs.
thanks for all the suggestions.. I use HTC Audio Manager/LobsterTunes mainly and couldn't find anything in either of those apps to do it...
I did discover that QuickMenu has an option to turn off the screen though.. the app continues to amaze me, I didn't even know that feature was in there!

He he he ! Turn off faceplate generally different from faceplate On-hook when listen to music.
Thanks for little but very interested software
I've read posts from people saying that they're able to do things like listen to mp3s, stream radio, etc. with the screen off, so I think there must be something wrong with my phone, because I can't do any of that. When the screen goes off, regardless of whether it's from me pushing the top button or from the phone sitting idle for a certain length of time, all sound stops. It happens both with or without headphones connected.
I think I've searched through every possible setting in the "control panel" area. Is there some registry setting I have to change to make the phone allow programs to run after the screen turns off?
Certain programs will cause the screen to remain on indefinitely. It'll dim after a certain length of time, but it won't turn off. This allows the programs to continue running, but I'd like to get the screen to turn completely off. Is that possible?
I've got a Sprint Touch with the latest official Sprint WM 6.1 ROM and am using Slide2Unlock. Could S2U be causing this?
Thanks for any help.

No, you need to do a registry edit on some ROMs.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\ Preferences]
Then see if there is a value called "UnattendedPlayback". If not create a new dword entry and name it "UnattendedPlayback" and set it's value to 1. WMP should now play when in suspended mode.
That seems like it'd only work for WMP. However, I think I found the answer I was looking for.
Changing
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\State\Unattended\WAV1:
to "0" seems to have done the trick. It was originally set to "4".
Now when I use Pandora (which was what I mainly wanted this for), I can turn off the screen and it'll continue playing.
hmm, even after changing both of those registry keys, mine still doesn't work. It pauses for a second when I turn the screen off, comes back for a few seconds, then stops again and continually stops/starts until I turn the screen back on. Any ideas? Thanks
That's what I was experiencing before I changed that registry key.
here's a cab for the second mentioned registry fix.
It's on me and my friend's premium account
so it should stay available for a while.
**Just tested on my phone!!**
*Not sure if it works with other phones besides HTC Touch,
but feel free to try at own risk*

Easiest solution is to use psShutXP. It will add a shortcut to turn off the display. If you use WisBar you'll get the same option. psShutXP is light, free, and easy to use.
This works for the T-Mobile Wing. It's the second registry edit made into a cab by codybear.
It works for the Pandora app perfectly. BTW, you can get the Pandora app for the Wing and possibly other phones HERE
Registry edit cab attached below for ease of access.

no sense in using another app when you can just change a registry.
