There is a way to create any kind of swap file on SD so that we can have more stability and velocity?
thanks
no
and it would kill the sd fast too as sd have a limited nr of writes before it dies
and it's very slow to access so it would not help speed

Upgrading my ROM to the latest build has greatly improved the issue with SD card corruption but i am still unable to copy large files (100mb and above) from my computer, it starts copying and halfway through gives an error message that there is insufficient space on the card even though there's more than 600mb available before copying. I then find that i have either lost 30-40mb on the card jus disappearing and sometimes it just corrupts the card and i lose all the information on it
is there a solution for this? is there such a utility that would copy large files without corrupting the card? assuming it is activesync that is causing this
please advise
many thanks in advance
i guess you should buy yourself a USB2.0 card reader for ~10 euros and copy whatever you want to card........
afraid to say that is the exact same experience i've had.
Prolem, it seems is with active sync, I can copy hundreds of files but no file greater than about 100Mb onto my 1Gig card.
Had to resort to a card reader, bit of pain in the arse as now i've got another device fighting for desk space, but the benefits are worth it, MUCH faster and you can copy pretty much anything.
my storage card sometimes disappears from the file explorer. any solution to that?
The only problem I've had with my Sandisk 1GB Ultra II is that when I take the card out of the device and put it into as card reader, all of the directory names are scrambled random characters, and I can't write to or read from the card. I had the same problem with a 256Mb trandflash card.
You can use the program "pocket mechanic". with this you can scan, repair, format and defrag your SD/MMC.
Good luck,
Giovanni
Try Softick cardexport, then you can use you're magician as an usb-drive. It writes faster than act.sync and probably without size issues and it will save you another device as well
Good luck
Hi All,
Just wondering if there was a way of formatting the SD card completely from within WM ? Or do i simply just delete all files thats on the card?
I also read somewhere about some registry tweaks to improve performance on the SD Card - There was a benchmarking utility to run to see if it would make any difference also in the post. I have searched around everywhere but cant find it. Can someone help?
Regards,
Craig
There is a way to format the card using WM - whether it helps any is debateable.. (I never noticed any improvement).
But how I did it was this:
1. Put the card into your laptop/desktop
2. Start--> Run-->"compmgmt.msc" (or "dskmgmt.msc")
3. Go to disk management, delete the partition on the SD card
4. then insert it into the phone.
The phone will ask you whether you want to format it, click yes and it's done
But, using dskmgmt.msc and creating a FAT32 partition is the same thing..
p.s. deleting the files != formatting the card.
pp.s. don't know how to trigger the format from within WM. There may be some utilities (saw some on Handango regarding defrag on your SD card) which can do this - never saw the benefit of defrag also..because the speed of the card is not high enough to the point at which defrag would help.
pocket mechanics does that
Urgent!!!
I don't know if this is a bug or not. I used to copy files by selecting the disk drive mode. After that I will safely remove the device under windows before disconnecting the usb cable.
The problem is sometimes after copying files to sdcard, the SD card will become read only under android. For example I cannot copy or create files using file explorer. When using camera app it says "Unable to save file to SD card due to insufficient file permissions". When using album it says "SD card unmounted or not present".
After the problem occurs I cannot access the SD card via disk drive mode anymore, unless I physically removed and reinsert back the SD card.
The strange thing is I can still access the SD card in PC via card reader with no problem. I can also view the existing files in the SD card under android (eg opening .apk in SD card)
I tried flashing the ROM for 2 times and with a different SD card. Also I formatted the SD using Panasonic SD formatter and partitioned properly. The problem still appear after several access under disk drive mode. Million thanks!!!
I've noticed the same thing in the DL DesireZ v3.3 nand ROM...
But now since I've switched to skink_Clean_Desire_v1.0 I don't have the problem any more...
No problem solver I know... but just to confirm the issue!
It was also read-only when I had disk drive mode chosen and connected to my win xp pc!
so when I deleted files over the computer they still existed...
I always remove the sd card securely!...
hope this helps a little bit!
Memory cards get weak after awhile...Had d same issue with a Memory card...it works well on WinMo but messes up just as u described in android after a format n a few read & writes...Froyo has also been reported to ruin memory cards...Summary, there's no real solution as i've googled all over....My advice is for you 2 get a new memory card, capacity & class (d higher d number, d better its read & write speed) is up to you...I'm using a class (4) 8GB card n its been alright.
P.S. Stop transferring files via d disk drive option in android..stick to using memory card readers or d MAGDLR function (though some also report file errors with dis).

Thanks for your reply
But how come windows and wm can read and write normally but it doesn't work in android?
Also, I have been using NAND and its disk drive option to transfer file in Cotulla's desire stock Rom and there is no problem at all. Would the problem be related to app2sd since the card has a ext4 partition?
do a chkdsk on your micro-sd card. let it repair and then don't delete the LOST folder in your sd card. ^^ you will be able to mount as read/write after this

Try a chkdsk as well...But in my experience, i did it several times & it only acted as a band-aid...As it reverts to read only ltr on...

So is this a SD card problem or ROM problem?
Previously I had been using Cotulla Desire stock Rom for a month and the problem didn't exist.
I don't mind buying a new SD card if it can completely solve the problem. Thanks
Hi i have Elelinux-7.1.0-RC1-Hero-v3.1 Android 2.3.5 and my sd card is now very slow,i can't copy big files abt 700 mb how to improve speed tnx?
Buy a Class 4 or above SD Card.
buy a high-speed sd card
You can try an SD Booster App (https:**market.android.com/details?id=de.mehrmann.sdbooster&feature=search_result <- sorry I´m a newby) they increase the cache size of your device, which CAN speed up your card..

There's a .Zip file that you can install via recovery mode hosted on the Elelinux 3.2 forum page simply referred to as "SD card tweak"
This supposedly increases your SD cards transfer speed, But my card is a class 4, I've had no real problems with it anyhow.
They say using a swap file will degrade your sdcard now my question is the g2 doesn't have an external sd card does it have an internal sd card or just split the memory into separate patron partitions one for system and one for sd card and if so will or still degrade it using a swap file
Thanks Rob
