I have a question. I've only had a WM5 device for about 9 months now. I now have Cingular 8525 and for the past 5 days I have left it on overnight only to find it frozen, won't wake up in the morning and the battery drained.
I did the Activesync hack, scanned the notifications queue and did not see any notifications for midnight on the dates the device would not wake up.
Its frustrating.
I was wondering if WM5 did some form of house cleaning nightly. It seems that this house cleaning wakes up the device and somewhere it freezes on and finally the battery gives out. I don't have any backup software going on.. Nothing. I just find the device won't wake up, won't even soft reset. Plug it in for a minute, then it soft resets with a dead battery.
I am going to look at the notifications queue tonight and delete any notifications I see that are for 0:00 and tomorrow and see what happens.
I am hard resetting it Monday and re-installing if I can't figure it out. It has been really annoying these last 5 mornings.
Sometime when I reboot I see a NO GSM message. Then get no radio, then about 10 minutes later I get service. But the password and the userid on the wap data connection has been erased and my bonded blue tooth headset password is forgotten, the device is there but it prompts me to bond with a passkey when I go to intiate the headset...
Thanks for your thoughts
This has, I believe, alot to do with your microSD card - see the link below.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=284636
Thanks I'll check it out. I do have a sd card in the device. It may be the cause.
Thanks.
I use SPB Backup, to initiate automated reboots. What it does is back up to ur microsd and then initiate a reboot. i do this every second night. which is cool, keeps the fone fast.
Nightly lockups were a pain in the neck for me - I have had 2 Orange M3100 and both suffered the same nightly lockup issues.
I found that 4 things have fixed the issues and i found that all 4 have to be done
1. Fake server trick
http://www.aximsite.com/boards/showthread.php?t=112638
But i found that not deleting the new server works fine
2. Untick Enable Advanced Network Functionality
Under Settings\Connections\USB to PC
3. Stopping Activesync running when not needed
In the notification queue there are 3 entries to start replog.exe (activesync)
you can safely delete the instruction to start after time change - This will stop Activesync from running.
NB the other 2 need to be there, do not delete any other notification of replog.exe
4. Never leave activesync running so always do a soft reset after syncing or at least before you charge the phone.
Not saying that these will work for everyone but they have worked for me on both phones.
try XBar. It incorporates cron, so you can schedule whatever program to run whenever you want it. Grap a copy of quickreset and run it. It will reset the Tytn at whatever time you set it for. I have mine resetting at 5 in the morning.
You may disable the standby mode when the unit on the external power supply. I have done, and I think it's not a big deal and it does not worth to struggle with locks on wakeups with external power!
I having a sort of similar 'morning trouble' with my TyTN, but limited to GSM connectivity. When I wake up, I am most of the cases disconnected from network with 'No service' message in the baloon. Searching for network is unsuccessful, nothing works until I soft reset the device.
Just a thought: You do have the "poweroff after x minutes" setting checked right?
I had what I thought was the same issue this morning, but it was caused by me unchecking the above setting (I do this during meetings when I'm using my BT keyboard) the previous day. This morning, while it was still dark out, I pressed the power button and nothing (the backlight was off and this actually put it into powersave mode). I pressed it again and still nothing (device came out of powersave mode with backlight still off). Because it was dark when I did this, I initially thought that I had the "won't return from powersave" problem.

I have a similar problem. Every monring when the device is still plugged on the wall charger, it hangs before I wake up. I would therefore miss a lot of calls or other notifications. I have done the defragmentation of the card, but it still doing the same thing every morning.
I have also tried all your steps above, ecept step 3, which I need your assistance as to how to delete the particular file you were referring to.
Many thanks in advance.

holy crap, i thought i was the only one that used xbar.. i have been using this program for 2 or 3 years, this is my one and only must have program!! FYI 3.2 beta was released
anyway.. on to this problem, i used to have this on my wizard, what i found was that plugging it and leaving it on would cause the lock up. Now when i plug it in i hit the power button and havent experienced it since on my wizard or on my 8525 yet. and i still get all of my push mails etc.. however i will say that if i get a call or text while im sleeping the device does wake up and the screen stays on..
another program you might want to try is SKSchema... they have several scripts that you can run, including a soft reset at a certain time. I also use the script which allows me to toggle between 3G/UMTS to save battery when I don't need 3G.
"Fake Server" did not work for me
Tried what is outlined - fake server, soft-re-boot, stopping activesync. Not sure how to delete the specific files in the notification queue.
Worked for one night! Next night back to the sleeping Tytn.
I am going to try spbTime to trigger an alarm at 12:01am and see if that helps.
TyTn does not "die" anymore!
The fake server is definitely part of the answer. As is stopping ActiveSynch. This needs to be combined with one other suggestion made on the forum of leaving the unit on when plugged in. This however has the potential drawback of "burning" the screen with the same image as when left powered on.
In addition to Activesynch, the problem is with the Notification queue (again as someone suggested on this forum). In the Suspend/Sleep mode under power, the unit cannot notify and goes into a perpetual loop.
Here is what I did that has now worked for 11 days. I installed spb PocketPlus and placed the "Screen Toggle" icon on the main screen. (According to spb, "Toggle" simply blanks the screen but does not put it to sleep/Suspend). So when I plug the unit in to charge it, I simply "toggle" the screen. The screen is blank (just like "Sleep"/"Suspend") but the unit is powered up. This has the added benefit of allowing you to listen to music with the screen blank.
I have now gotten to "toggling" even under battery power. Miraculously, my intermittent BT and Wi Fi issues have also disappeared. There may be cheaper solutions than buying Pocket Plus, but spb's Pocket Plus is convenient and has some other nice features.
Mortsaver might be a cheaper option?
Active Sync
I don't know if any of you have tried Active Sync "beta" 4.5". Its seems to have fixed many of my problems with connection and some of the issues described here.

This problem affects CRT and plasma displays (phosphor based), but not TFT.
Before my 8525 I used to rely on my phone’s alarms to wake me up in the morning when traveling.
Now I have a problem.
1. the Default Alarm program does not work. No idea why, but I read you need a soft reset program to make them work. So I bought SkSchema. Now my phone resets ten mins before my Alarm is supposed to go off. For some reason the soft reset kills the alarms…
2. So Alarms still don’t work, but I want to run a test, so I turn on my alarm for 2 mins after setting it. 2 mins later it turns on, now problem 2. I can’t turn it off. It keeps going off for over twenty mins before I figure out how to trick it into turning off (soft reset alone did not work) I had to set a new alarm then soft reset, somehow it turned it off.
3. I am relentless. So I decide to try using SkSchema’s reminder setting as an alarm. It survives the reset test. Then it goes off. Well I hit cancel on the notification and the alarm is still going off as I write this. Luckily I only had ten repeats setup… but the odd thing is the repeats are 5 mins apart. I am praying it will stop on the tenth repeat. Or I might be doomed to a hard reset.
So now a question…
Is there any reliable way to have an alarm on the 8525? I’ll go buy another program if I must just point me in the right direction.
And, Anyone know why I can’t turn off the alarms when they do work?
Thanks in advance, this is driving me crazy.

I think this sounds like your problem:

Hope this helps
Doh--
My search for alarm did not reveal this.
Ignore my thread, I will post there!
I have also had alarm issues with my dopod 838. For some reason i would turn on the alarm for every single day at 8:30, it didnt work that morning Monday and worked the rest. Its happend like 3 times so far.
I just now use an after party alarm app, solved the problem.
Brand new HTC HD2, No software or any tweakings, nothing.
Alarm set to wake me up this morning.
Woke up an hour later, phone was on, alarm screen was on display with the machine freezed, had to soft reset. What the hell is that? This is a brand new nothing installed device. A simple thing as an alarm clock freezes the device?
Anyone experiences same problem?
I had the same problem, but with galarm.I never thought this can happen with the original software. It should be bugs free...
I get a similar problem sometimes with GAlarm. Luckily for me, it sets the alarm off then freezes up. That gets you out of bed believe me
The screen is on, with the time displayed and what looks like one of the balls from the maze/snooze function in the very top right hand corner. You can't do anything to get rid of the screen. I had to press the Home hard key then end task GAlarm to get it to stop. So it's not totally frozen up but GAlarm is fubard

Maybe a new function from g-alarm .
I don't have the problems you (all) are having, even with g-alarm. It's working like a charm on my HD2 orignal WWE 1.66 rom.
You guys/girls got all patches etc installed?
What kind of patches?
Doesn't 1.66 come with them already in?
I'm using BsBTweaks 1.6.
I think mine might be a setting within GAlarm. I quite often get an error while setting up alarms, usually either when adding tracks or when I get right to the end and save it. But it is there and set up when I next go in. I'm using GAlarm 2.3.
Never had this problem with my HD2. However it happened often with my HTC Touch Diamond. Maybe it has something to do with a specific device, dunno. Anyway just in case I have one alarm set on my iPod Touch so there's always at least one device that will wake me up. Maybe you should hard reset your phone or smth... Did you tweak your soft in some way? Edited the registry?
just this morning, fir the first time, the alarm clock didn't trigger. Had it set for 8:40, all days of the week active, obviously alarm was active, vibration was off.
I had a gut feeling that it MAY not work, so I setup the other phone at 9am just in case... as expected, the other phone woke me up, the hd2 didn't... but no freezes nor anything, simply no alarm sounded...
same for me. hd2. it has to do with
1. the windows lock screen
2. galarm
3. backlight/device timeout settings while locked
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.
nothing like a frozen device MID alarm forcing you to pull the battery, and restart, etc
I have the same problem. But i will try something i found. Since the problem occurs occasionally I cannot reproduce the error and post a result. Maybe you can try and share the results too.
There's an option in G-Alarm settings that says "Turn backlight off during an alarm after x seconds". I will disable this feature.
I'm also using S2U2. This feature may interfere with S2U2.
Cheers
Well I am not using G alarm or any other app. Its just plain WM 6.5 alarm. I have tried it on 4 different ROM(stock) and other and I get same result.
If I don't reset my phone before going to bed at night, I will get this issue in the morning that my phone will be frozen during the alarm.
Any advice?
Try these, it should help freezing problems with htc hd2 and galarm
allthese settings are in galarm settings option
1)Disable "turn backlight off during snooze"
2) Disable "turn backlight off during an alarm after x secomds"
3)Disable "show flightmode function"
4) Disable "unlock the device"
I also have the same problem, sometimes the WM alarm fails to sound the alarm, the phone says that it has gone off, but no alarm sounds.
Have done some research, and it sounds like a fault with WM, the phone "wakes" its self at ~03:00 for 30seconds to schedule all its tasks for the day, BUT if it takes too long scheduling other tasks, it cant do the alarm call due to running out of time.
Hi,
I've searched for several hours now in these forums and on Google, with no success.
I need an app that leaves the device switched on, but powers off the screen.
In settings/power I can dim the screen, but there is no setting to dim it completely or just switch it off.
I've found screensavers that can show a blank screen, but the screen is still actually powered up, just showing a black image presumably.
I've found apps that can switch off the screen. But you have to manually click on them to switch off the screen.
Does anyone know of a screensaver that after a set interval will leave the device running, but power off the screen please?
Suspend is no good, the device must be up and running apps.
Thanks for your help.

What apps are you trying to "keep running"? The only thing that might be an issue when the screen goes into it's normal sleep mode is that audio will stop outputting, and wifi connections will suspend, but there's cabs available here to easily get around both of those (and keep them going even when the screen shuts off).
Well, it's actually to solve another long-running problem that has made me almost lose the will to live....
Alarms don't go off reliably on my TP2.
Sometimes, randomly, the alarm doesn't go off until I press the power button to wake it up. The the alarm instantly goes off. So, if I set an alarm for 6am, sometimes the phone wakes up and the alarm sounds, sometimes not. And if I switch the phone on manually sometime later, at 6:15 say, the 6am alarm sounds then.
It will work fine for a few days, then fail.
It happened on WM6.1 and still continues after upgrading to WM6.5.
I have spent countless hours googling and searching XDA-Dev. I have tried probably ten different alarm apps, with no luck. I have hard-reset various times. I have tried various recommended registry tweaks. I've tried checking the notification queue regularly for any errors. I've tried so many different suggestions, for example, never pressing the power button to turn the phone off, only ever let it hibernate automatically. Warm-resetting it each day. And the list goes on.
So, I'm experimenting with just leaving the phone on forever. But turning the screen off at night to save power / not shorten the life of the screen hardware.
Which leads me to the question about screensavers which actually power off the screen automatically after a set delay. Just like a normal screensaver on a PC.
It's hard to easily convey the frustration I have for the TP2. An excellent phone. But a phone which I can't trust to do the simplest thing: to wake me up in the morning?
It'll end up in the bin at some point very soon now.....
A suggestion
Hi,
In my opinion there must be an application, change or customisation that is leading you to those problems. My suggestion is, to perform a sync towards any computer or server to keep your contacts, then, hard reset and keep the phone with the factory defaults for a while. Then, test the phone's alarms and if all is okay, add one by one your applications and changes, testing the alarms in between. Please do that on the official ROM (whatever 6.5 or 6.1) but official one. You will flash if needed later on.
I know it will be a pain, but you will find the problem.
I am using a TP2 with stock WM6.5 ROM. I have not had yet any issue with the alarms. However, I remember to have had those kind of problems before with WM 5.0 and 6.1. There were always related to freeware applications, customisations, no official ROMs, registry hacks and restored backups done from older builds upon upgrade. The alarm bug in old WM version was also known, but I have not experienced it on newer versions.
There can be some issues with the notification database by times, but as said above, it is almost every time due to customisations.
I am not saying that we should keep our phones without applications, third party software, cooked ROMs, customisation etc. But the goal is to find out what is the reason, and believe me. It is the best if not only way.
If you post the list of applications and hacks that you have in your phone, I can try to see if there is any I could identify like guilty one, based on my own experience.
Complementary, I recommend you to install and use these two applications in attachment. They have worked for me on WM5, 6, 6.1 and 6.5 so far. They are freeware and therefore you can use them without problems.
Good luck!
Thanks for taking the time to reply. All very good advice. I'll have a go when I've got some free time again. In the meantime, has anyone come across a screensaver that actually powers off the screen please?
Thanks again.

do you turn your ringer to silent or vibrate when you go to bed? if so,
go to start/settings/clocks&alarms/more and make sure that the "sound alarms box" is checked. this will make sure that even if your phone ringers/alerts are off, your alarm will ring. also, if you charge your phone while you sleep, go to the backlight settings and uncheck the "turn screen off on ac power" box. if you cant sleep with the phone light on, set it to max dim on ac power and flip it over. i always had this issue when i had the tmobile wing.

S2U2 on this forum.
try g alarm.it worked perfect for me with tilt
I have similar Issues with my TP2;
I notice that it is more to do with HIBERNATING than screen off.
My TP2 has go to the point where allowing it to go to hibernation means Screen of Death.
Overnight I charge it and do not let the screen go off and it seems ok (so far).
Guess I will have to Hard reset and test my freeware.
Cheers

I had the exact same problem. When the phone goes to sleep, it is ASLEEP. I didn't use the alarm too much but the phone would never notify me when SMS arrived. I'd hit the power switch to check, and bam, three messages arrive at once, some from hours ago. Immensely frustrating, but the problem went away when I installed Energy rom.
Right, my alarm seems to be playing up on the HD2. I have the alarm set in the week only Monday - Friday.
As I don't work weekends, I turn the alarm off, and DID double check this last night. But this morning @ 3,40am the Alarm went off?
How is this possible, when I physically turn the alarm off? Getting really on my nerves now if im honest.
happens to me too, seems to come and go.....
hard reset wont resolve it either....
edit;
hard reset probably did resolve it but it occured again after reinstalling all the stuff that I deem "essential"
so its probably caused by something in there....
I really cant think of any link between what I have installed and the alarm function......
That's why I use the old free version of gAlarm still. Windows alarm is unreliable. gAlarm wakes me up every time I want it to, and never when I don't.
Since the old version that I have is freeware, but the app has since become payware, I'm not sure if I can post the cab.
If I can get confirmation from a mod, I'd be happy to attach it for you
I've no answer to this other than to use SPB Time,G-alarm or Klaxon
All 3 work just fine...
I solved the problem with a £3.99 clock radio
I have NO issues at all with the alarm, BUT I set it up using the control panel not via the Manila home page, It's not failed me in months, the snooze (every 5 minutes) works, and if I leave it on it repeats every 45 seconds until I get fed up with it (normaly between 3 and 7 times)
All three alarms work, and I can set a different alarm for each of the 3
I also suffer this problem, the alarm is unreliable.
I heard you can fix it by turning off sense and setting it in windows because these values would become out of sync, but have not tried.
Klaxon resulted in crashes for me, resulting in the alarm (an mp3 file) not going off.
Just be warned in advance.

There's another alarm bug thread here where it has been tested and confirmed that it's not a sense related issue. It's Windows.
It has been said that changing volume settings after setting your alarms has a big effect on whether the alarms will behave as expected, or go off at all.
Seems changing your volume after setting the alarms messes things up, and so does having pending appointments, as Windows will play your reminder right before the alarm goes off, messing things up too.
I'm gonna go ahead and post gAlarm v1.51 in a while, after my kids go to bed. If any mods/admin have a problem with it, I'll take it down. I think it should be ok, since that version is freeware
EDIT: Here ya go guys. Hope I'm not breaking any rules here.
You might need .netFW3.5 to install/run it.
