Hi i have got a wizard which i use on o2 uk payg.i am trying to access the web with gprs all of the settings are correct but when i try to access any other site except o2.co.uk eg ebay or google it will not let me connect .
I thought it was a problem with my device so i rang customer services and to my horror my customer services told me that they could only garuntee that i would be able to connect to their site and no other.
As any one else had the same problem as i think this is totaly unfair that they expect be to pay £7.50 a mounth for web browsing just to be able to access thier site and no other.

that is actually wrong. For starters the ip address is incorrect, it might work over in the states but not her in the uk,plus extra settings are needed for the uk.
if you want the correct settings, that work fine, as i have done it and tried it, then go here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=341203
I am not sure what the device is, that it was originally intended for ,but there are a couple of places it says click on this or that and it just doesnt exist but as long as you use the settings it indicates, it will work
fine. If you cant get it to work just pm me and i will try to guide you through
All up and running perfectly now thanks for your help.

You need to find out from the service provider the access point name for gprs connection, username and password, and domain if applicable. Once you have this information and if the gprs is functional, it is smooth sailing. for browsing, you must find out if your isp requires proxy. if so, you must configure proxy settings in the connection manager. msn messenger works most of the times without proxy. it is possible that if web browsing requires proxy, you can't connect to msn messenger with the same connection settings.

I have the same problems. Nobody in Spain knows how to set my o2 to work in the Internet using GPRS. I asked the providers by their ****ing short number (It was vodafone) But There are no any specialists at this country. They can do NOTHING. They do not know anything. I asked everybody at different provider´s offices but I haven´t had the right answers. HELP ME PLEASE to SET MY O2 TO WORK WITH INTERNET IN MADRID.
They gave me different variants of "access point name", username, password and so on. But no one of their settings work. I´m ready to change my provider, that vodafon. I´m ready to do everything to get right settings to get to the internet. Help me please. I can not live without my mobility.
Hi all, i managed to connect my XDA II to Activesync successfully and everything synchronize perfect.
i am just having hard time to make my XDA II Connect to the internet using the Activesync connection.
i went to options --> Rules ---> pass through , i have 2 choices here in connections 1. work and 2. internet !!! i wonder what they mean, any way i tried both and was not able to connect to the internet. do i need to make any changes to my XDA II Connections!!!
thanks for your help
I believe in your Connections in XDA II, you need to select my network card connects to Internet and select the Internet option in pass thru settings in ActiveSync
adapter!!!
ok i selected the the network card conects to: "The internet"
what about the other section. the adapter to modify, which one i should select!! i have 4 choices here:
1. NE2000
2. L2TP
3. ASYNCmAC
4. PPTP
My understanding is that you don't need to worry about those 4 adapters to get pass through to work. The most important thing is that both the pc passthrough connection and the Xda ii network card connection are the same. I.e. they are either both set to "Work", or both set to "The Internet". I use the "work" setting
i think i will break this stupid device :x , i tried both "work" and "the internet" non of them worked for me. and when i go to my XDA II Device and i change my network card to connect to work and click ok and check it again, it appear going back to the internet selection!!!! my PC is connected 24h/day to the internet through ADSL and i can't make this thing to use it

Are your ISP using Proxy server?, if yes configure proxy setting in your XDAII device.
I was able to surf the internet using both pass through options .
I had this problem and in the end I found that if I enabled a public proxy:
212.42.175.155 port 80
then the XDA would connect to the internet through active sync.
i can't get my xdaii to activesync, just keeps coming up as guest? It synced OK the first time... now just guest only. any suggestions.
Try removing xda from cradle, delete partnership in activesync and then reconnect to establish a new partnership.
A complete removal/restore of activesyn may also work but is more tedious. Make sure it is the latest version also.

Yes abo_khaleel , my ISP is using Proxy server. Where exactly in XDA II i can configure the proxy server. i mean in the network card section. I know when i make a GPRS or data connection i can see Proxy settings there but with the activesync i can't see it.

Not sure about xda2, since I have I-mate, but:
After conneting thought activesync, click signal signal strength icon (on the top of the screen), then click settings, this will open connections settings, then click: edit my proxy server. if you have more one than connection, try them one by one.

Hi folks
Been playing with my new O2 XDA II exec toy for a couple of days now and came across this forum.
I have a question;
I can connect fine with wireless, but if I either switch off wireless, or start Opera/Internet Explorer without any internet connection, the phone automatically tries to dial the GPRS connection number. This is annoying and I'd want the phone to do nothing or give an error if there is no internet connecttion available. How do I change this in the settings?
The only way to stop the OS from dialing a gprs or dial-up connection is to have none of them configured in the connection settings. Sometimes you even need to hard-reset to get rid of them as your device still 'remembers' the settings & connects the gprs while you have deleted all connections.
Regards, M
Can you untick the remember username and password box? Thats what I have done, and if it does try to connect it wond go past that.
Eeeeh,
my gprs ain't using user/password. R u referring dial-up?
Cheers, M
I just make a spoof GPRS connection called VJSpoof, with no details in it.
Select this one when you want to disable GPRS, or go back to the normal one went you want to use GPRS. I use this when reading news on NewsReader offline, because otherwise it tries to connect up to download pictures.

On my GPRS I have a username and password box, although nothing needs to be entered in it. I make sure the box which says Always Remember These Details is unticked.
haha vijay... I like your thinking... works a treat, just remember to manually select them, and not have it autopick tries to dial out, then error
Hi
I've just got the above phone & seem to be able to get the GPRS connection but when I launch IE I get the message "Connection lost"

As I know, internet access is not available for O2 PAYG customer, it's only for pay monthly.
I got the same problem with O2 PAYG and everything was back to normal when I change the SIM card with O2 monthly or another PAYG (vodafone & t-mobile)
Thanks stones...........I've been in touch with O2 & they advised the same re the PAYG sim but didn't suggest another network. I should be able to get WAP sites with PAYG O2 but can't do that either at the moment.
I'm going to try one of the other networks
Thanks again

You are now ready to surf o2 pay as you go GPRS full internet, but you will not be able to use outlook and MSN. However, it's still OK. To open MSN you can download Agile messenger. To access your email, just use the web access. You can only use 5MB for free on O2 PAYG. After that you will be charged.
Thanks go gugi_sat who helped me to solve the problem:

No My Work Network on conections screen
Hi;
I also know that OS payg customers can access gprs - i did on my last phone (Sony P800) with no problems. But now on the 2020 i can access GPRS but can not get web pages.
I see your settings for my work network - - but I do not have my work network on the connections page... what you are saying seems to make sense as my problems seems to be a DNS or gateway issue..
But now, how do I get my work network onto the connections settup page? It was there, but somehow with the scrambling around that I have done to get conencted to GPRS it has gorne away :-(
Thanks;

Someone please help
anybody know how to do this? im going to my girlfriends house and im bringing my laptop and they dont have any wireless connections in the area so i wanted to connect my cell phone to my laptop n use the GPRS/EDGE to get internet on my laptop so any advice would be great!
Do a web search on 'MDA' and 'modem' AND 'the-name-of-your-provider' (mine is T-Mobile)
The steps for the first 2 terms are nearly the same, but the key is the settings that are specific to your provider.
i have tmobile as well
Just to let you know, on t-mobile you have to set up the same proxy in your web browser on your pc as the one you use on your phone when connecting (216.155.165.50 - HTTP) or it won't work. As for setting up connection sharing, if you're using WM6, just run internet sharing, if you're using WM5 though I can't help you cuz I never used it when I had WM5.

The proxy IS necessary for tethering using the $5.99 tmobile plan.
THe proxy IS NOT necessary for the "Total Internet" or Unlimited Internet plans.
