Downgrade to WPC 2K3 - P3600 General

Any know if this can be done, if it can do you know where to get the ROM image

Why would you ever want to do that?

WM5 Downgrade
I would agree, but i have a third party application that won't work on anything else. I have been given (Free) a trinity, I would like to use it, if I can't I'll upgrade to WM6 and use it properly

Ah, I see. Doubt that you'll ever find a working WM2k3 rom for the Trinity, good luck anyway.

When WM2k3 was still popular in the market, I don't even know the name of HTC Back then, there's only Compaq iPaq (now Hp's), Fujitsu Loox, the Dell Axim, Casio's Casiopedia, HP's Journada....

Microsoft problem with WM2005

Hi guys.
I don't know why XXXXXXX doesn't make a working copy of WM2005 availible on their website to download for people like us with Pocket PC's or any other kind of WM PDA.
I mean, I will pay for it. I rather pay for WM2005 and keep my existing PDA than go and buy a new PDA just because it has got WM2005 pre-installed.
By the way, maybe XXXXXXX downloaded Buzz's version of WM2005 with all the bugg fixes and is currently working on that to fix theirs. Just imagine how much work Buzz has saved them.
MW is unlike normal windows in that respect
mw is made to be small and have to be custom made for a device
with all the right drivers and no more
one pda require different drivers then others
and ms make it up to the pda makers if and what they
are to charge for the device
maybe in the furture that will change who knows

hp 6515 support for wm2005 ?

hi everyone,
i can see different versions of the wm2005 imates,
Any news or roms for hp 6515. it will be nice to see it running wm2005.
Just wanted to start this post so others can share there info and knowledge regarding 6515.
the roms for himalaya are based on 1 or 2 roms leaked from htc
and it's a beta
HP has finally said that there will be no upgrade for the 65xx series. So we can only hope that someone will dump the ROM Image from 67xx and "cut off" some things to get it smaller. If it can be done...
Personally, I don't use the WMP and I can imagine that other users can have an option to install it on the storage card. I also don't use Pocket Word and Pocket Excel so much so if someone cuts it out and gives me the ability to install it optionally on the card... The same thing for iPAQ Backup and so on...
I know, this solution is pretty crazy... But... I have bought my hw6515 one month ago and until I have it, I didn't know that it has only 64MB FLASH EEPROM (HP was making a fog around it)...
I want to upgrade especially for the one-finger control... That's very useful for a communicator...
help
no news? help us....
Still no news. No upgrade (officialy).

One upon a time....

I use to have a XDA 2 (well, SPV M1000) and (the important thing) a folder named "My XDA 2 must have". The software I use most, the software to backup, the software to keep not only to try. Like:
1. Sprite Backup
2. Visual IT Rough Guide to London (like A-Z map to central London + extras)
3. Splash ID
and not last
4. TomTom 5 .... and others that I miss already.
And THEN, here it is, I waited so long for it, (Exec) that I decided to switch from Orange, to O2, (Orange don't have this even now). Three days of "testing"...Well the device is great....Windows 5 isn't. (At least for me.)
My folder (My XDA 2 must have) is now "The software that doesn't work on WM5" ...None of the four named programs work...it takes ages to charge, it's slow, everything has changed...and how about that 'program' included "Clear Storage"??!!!
I thought it was something like remove programs, not a bloody HARD RESET!
Everything seems to say about Windows 5.....WHY FIX IT IF IT AIN'T BROKEN??!!!
BTW: Does anybody know a decent Wi-Fi Connections Manager that WORKS?? (Hitchhiker crashes my Exec, Retina Scanner wants to know what my socks size is when registering, Wi-Fi Companion Doesn't Install in WM5.........)
I am glad I didn't sell my SPV M1000 yet....but I want to....I love the Exec, but hate what it does...or rather what it doesn't!
..............helps us all !!!
You seem surprised that a major version upgrade (WM2003 to WM5) comes with occasional problems. Didn't we see the same when we changed from Windows 3.1 to Windows 95?
Later versions of desktop operating systems have some backwards compatibility built in, but with the limited resources of the PPC platform I guess they couldn't achieve everything.
We may not know what they are yet , but I'm sure WM5 has built-in features that drive the platform on another big leap and over time we'll take them for granted. I looked at my XDA2 last night (now two days-worth of dust gathering on it) and was reminded how fast it responded to commands, but it looked dated already compared with my shiny new Exec.
Don't forget, we're early adopters of WM5 and we're always going to have problems. When ROM upgrades are released and developers get new versions out for us, we'll wonder how we ever lived without it!
In case you haven't seen it yet, there's a thread running over at www.tekguru.co.uk listing the software that works perfectly on WM5. I found it useful when looking for replacements for my old WM2003 versions.
I have #2 and #4 working (for #4 you need TT 5.1 - d/l the update from their site)
Reinstall from fresh I reckon. And you are using activesync 4 not 3.8 still?
I agree with SiliconS.. I'm always wanting the very latest of everything (hardware and software) and to be honest, I'm surprised how good windows mobile 5 is!
There are many problems, like icons disappearing and speed etc..but they're not life threatening.
I only hope that the providers are going to keep up with the developers and release their specific patches..if not then I'll have to convert to the Jasjar rom
I love the MDA PRO even with it's problems.
Thanks for the help guys. I'll try these options as well.
BTW, anyone has any problems with the AvantGo software?
Also
#1 Try googling : Sprite Backup v3.2.0 build 2487.
Should be working with JJ.
Best of Luck.

This is real? had you used and work with restores?
Thanks.
From the Sprite Backup developers website:
"Sprite Backup is only compatible with devices using Windows Mobile 2002 and 2003. Windows Mobile 2005 devices cannot use Sprite Backup. We will be releasing a new version that will be compatible with these devices in the near future. Please keep visiting this site for updates."
I did try the version you mentioned but no luck. I use a Exec not a JJ...coud that be it? Thanks anyway...and damn I need a backup program...[/quote]
Here I am after another whole day of reading forums, installing and uninstalling, hard resets, trial and error....and things like that.
As far as the XDA is concerned....I feel better about it now, installed SPB Pocket Plus (works a dream), SPB Finance (great 'cuz it syncs with Quicken), and most of all, swiched to "Corporate" mode...and man, it is FAST now !!!
As mentioned before, Sprite Backup doesn't work, AvantGo works but not as it should, SplashID....nope. I did try eWallet, which works ok on the desktop but not on the XDA.
It's all good fun though.

I'm thinking that I might go for a hard reset and choose Corp, but I don't know how to set up the GPRS details. How did you get GPRS working for Corporate Mode, or haven't you needed to?
I do find the settings for all these connections v.confusing. I just want it simple, like my laptop! One connection does all...
Now that you mentioned that, I wouldn't know if I need different setting yet, as I am still on Orange for the next couple of days until they port my number. Interesting to see if it works though.
I've tried today the GPRS, G3 connection and it worked without changing anything. (In Corporate mode)

Upgrading to Wm2005 - Opinions

The title is ambiguous enough that it can techically be argued that it belongs in the upgrading forum (since it's about upgrading) or the WM2005 forum, since it's about WM2005, and this forum, since it's asking an opinion petaining to the Himalaya. so if anyone feels it should be relocated, argue it out, or move it if you have the power.
OK, so basically, I currently run my Himalaya with 2003SE, running TomTom 5, and MMS/SMS with all the other default features in use such as calendar, bla bla...
However, WM2005 does look rather attractive and so I was wondering if it was worth upgrading to it, and if there's any special considerations I need to bear in mind, or if anyone has an opinion why I should avoid it, or indeed embrace it, then I'd be interested in what you have to say.
I would also like to know what improvements WM 2005 brings. And if it doesnt work can I bring back WM 2003 SE by hard resetting my device ?
I installed it, nothing like firsthand experience.
you can revert back by flashing 2003(SE) back to the PDA.
personally, I think it's certainly worth trying, just set yourself up with a RAMdisk, or you really waste space
Try it, I love WM2005, it runs smooth as hell on my device! Everything works flawlessly.
i have this cd where i placed all the programs and apps that i use or would like to have on my xda. anytime i'm forced to do a hard reset i simply reinstall them. the only app that doesn't work with my upgrade to wm2005 is animated today...then again i did write to the developer and they said they're working on getting an update for wm2005 compatibility. so the only thing you might encounter is an app that doesn't work right with wm2005 since it was originally designed to run with older rom versions (like se). and it's been 3 or 4 months since i did my wm2005 upgrade; haven't done a hard reset yet as everything is stable.
other than that i think wm2005 rocks. buzz, xda2jojo, toenailed, and toflock are among those who did an incredible job in bringing wm2005 to the xda2.

Verizon XV6700 WM6 Upgrade?

I have a Verizon XV6700, but am quite new to PocketPC scene. I was wondering if anyone could tell me if there's an WM6 update out there that is compatible with my phone. I've found some of the WM6 roms, and know how to go about installing them...but I haven't found anyone saying they have upgraded an XV6700. Any help would be much appreciated.
This site is alittle encouraging...
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/verizonwireless/default.mspx
seeing as how it shows my phone running Windows Mobile 6
Thanks,
Chris 3D
Have no message about APACHE'S wm6 come out, or any schedule. The MS pages just shows apache that runs WM5, not crossbow.
This is just sad.....135 views and 1 reply
EDIT 186
That's because there are no WM6 ROMs for Apaches. The highest weve gotten is to WM5 AKU 3.5. With this there are some programs from WM6 included but that is about it.
There is some hope that now that the Mogul is out we might be able to get a WM6 working but I wouldn't hold your breathe.
but what if we got a copy of WM6 and tried to load it in the Apache? Would it work? Ive got an extra apache i have been using for testing.......i wonder if I........
There is no generic "copy of WM6" you can get that will work on the 6700. Any copy you find is for any of 100s of different hardware - putting it on your hardware may kill your hardware, or at best just not work.
Just wait, or if you want to help go to ppcgeeks dot com, where helmi_c is working with several folks to bring updated roms to the 6700 (thanks helmi!)
I think?
My apache just got upgraded to WM6 by a fellow xdaer. I am now in love with my pda all over again. My montra had been it is not a good phone and it is not a good pda. It works just not even as good as my xv6600 with ppc2003 on it. It doesn't hang up nearly as much with 6 vs. 5. It seams to work great, better than WM5. Finally I have voice activated dialing again after a hiatus of 4 years! I am actually making this post while looking for the source info that was used refrenced in xdadev.com. Happy hunting I'll try to find my way back here if i find the info.
I just got the xv6700 after having the treo 700wx.
Can some please give me a step by step on how to get wm6 on the device?
Do I download the apache thing directly to the phone and then do the boot mode?
Thanks
I would also like it if someone could post a step by step way on getting WM6 to the xv6700
WM6
for all apache owners who dont kno it has been developed by helmi_c

this is for you guys who dont kno
WM6 for verizon
check out ppc geeks apache upgrades...helmi_c...I've found the latest version works, but you have to be very spartan about your choices of apps. It gets weird if you select too many items and you really don't have any clues other than your apache consistently screws up, i.e., performance declination, programs not functioning as intended, anything that takes away from your machine doing what it is intended to do.
I've loaded the same rom 3 times and all three have behaved in thier owm unique way. I'll be more specific if anyone is interested.
Suffice to say the 3rd time was a charm. I only soft reset maybe twice a week. I do have to be aggressive in my memory management.
Have fun.
