I have HP ipaq 6915 Italian, WM5. I have updated the satellite data from quick gps connection. I go out, but the yellow gps icon never turns green. I use gpsgate 2.0 with Destinator PN. GPS is found, but myposition is never found, no matter how many satellites it locates (usually 5-7). What's wrong? Help!

Thats because the GPS need constant signals for it to get the 3D position. It may required a long start before getting the position for first time start up, mine around 30 minutes, after that getting position will be a drift
some tips
Try standing on a large field or something with no buildings in near sight to get maximum signals
Dont move while getting the signals
Make sure that the weather is not cloudy
I really liked the trick with the registry and the gps icon. I can't try tom tom because there is no map available for my area. I use DestinatorPN and gpsgate 2.0. Still the same problem. No position. I haven't tried to stay out more than 15 min. I'll try 30 min or more tomorrow. I hope it works.
Hi !
Did you try go to START menu then SETTINGS then CONNECTIONS and here is the icon QUICK GPS CONNECTION, tap on this icon and then download the newest drivers for internal GPS. I try now the GPS connection and the weather is cloudy and i have got the connection in less than a minute !
Try this, maybe it will work.

I've downloaded the latest data with quick gps connection. It was the first thing to do. Nothing works. I'm desperate!
Hi again,
If you do the registry hack then you have an icon in your Start/setings/system folder is it wright. If so then you tap on GPS icon and set up your GPS. GPS "Programs" set to NONE, "Hardware" set to COM7 and baudrate set to 57600, "Access" untick the "Manage GPS automatically" thats mean you must disable this function. This is it. You can tray this last option.

I'm new to this forum, and learned a bit too.. Reading all sorts of posts.
Right now my ActiveSync drops connection when i connect the phone, and first <b>now</b> i realized there is a newer version.. So that's maybe a solution for that.
Well...
I am wondering about the GPS control panel icon... It's not there? Then @ HTC's site, i read they have a new ROM to fix that, so i tried.. it worked, the ROM update.. but no GPS icon still.. :-/ (It was the same image version, i remember, but i had a hope..)
Then...
I've been reading about the homemade ROM's. And something about the EXTENDED memory?
Is there a ROM that will give me the GPS icon, and maybe fix some things/bugs - optimize. And have some fancy pancy thingy programs and stuff? Danish would be preferred though..
My first post.. I will try to get better
------
Oh, and something to make the phone like a USB-drive.. If u know what i mean..
------
aaarh, when i would like to download some files, it just opens, and dont start downloading.. why? and maybe a fix?
------
The sync is still connected... the newer version helps..
Will TOM TOM 6 work fine??
aaand, when pushing the "messages" link on "today screen", sometimes i takes tome time to get in.. why?
I hope someone will answer some of my annoying questions
Nothing?
Did I ask TO newbish?
Yes ensure that you are running the latest activesync. Also are you using personal firewalling software, make sure that the network connection is allowed. ActiveSync connects using a virtual network adaptor, with a network of something like 169.254.2.X.
Make sure you have the most recent ROM from HTC installed on your unit, some of the older ROM's don't have GPS enabled.
GPS is automatically turned on by the unit, hence no off or on control. I personally use TomTom on my 3600i. To get it working make sure that your GPS port settings are the same for your device (Settings, System, External GSP, Programs) & TomTom (Check Preferences, Show GPS Status, Configure).
Ensure that you are standing outside for GPS to connect, it may take up to 6-8 minutes for a cold sync (however should only take ~2 minutes).
To check if your GPS is actually working, go to show GPS status, if you see the message "GPS Device Not Found" it's not working properly, check the above steps again. If you see "No valid GPS signal!" this means your GPS is working, however not yet locked on-to satelites (you might also notice the blue and yellow circle spinning).
I'd recommend you don't touch any other ROMs until you have more experience.
You can see your phone in explorer, look under \My Computer\Mobile Device
Messages taking a while to open, no idea, try a soft reset & see if the problem keeps on happening.
For your future posts, i'd recommend asking only a few questions at a time & make them clear.
PS - My settings for GPS that get TomTom working:
Device - Settings / System / External GPS
Programs tab / GPS program port: COM4
Hardware tab / GPS hardware port COM9 / Baud rate 115200
Access tab / Manage GPS automatically (enabled/selected)
TomTom - Change preferences / Show GPS Status / Configure
Other NMEA GPS receiver / GPS baud rate 115200 / GPS in COM9
Hi Steve
Ask less questions, got it... Maybe it was because I'm new and did not now all this existed and a lot got onto my mind at the same time.
Well, the ActiveSync 'problem' is solved. Newer version was the solution.
I checked the ROM date, and is was older than the date they gave on the HTC site, but when it checked the image version, it said it was the same, but i still updated. But still no GPS icon
- My GPS is working though, with TomTom 6
The "Today - Messages" link is still slow. Sometimes i have to tab several times to get it open - quite annoying.
I could choose COM port when TomTom got installed, and that was GPS on COM9, and baud rate was set up from 4800 to 9600. I will try 115200...
A BIG 'thank you' to you, Steve...
Now i only miss the GPS icon

To have the GPS Icon showing up, you'll find the registry tweak in the trinity's wiki.
You can also use trinity hack that can be downloaded in this forum too.
Both can do the trick.
Thx riri22
I'll try something out
Hi all,
I have encountered a strange problem on my IPAQ 6915.
I am using the IGo GPS spftware and it suddenly stopped detecting satellites.
The really weird thing is that when I set the IGO to find the GPS on com7 with 57600, the IGO program starts going haywire and it it looks like it is clashing with another program.
I have removed all the latest software I installed (mostly SPB utils) but that didn't help.
Another issue may be a registry cleanup I did with SK tools.
I am not sure how to solve this - any ideas?
Thanks in advance,
Danny.
Hi danab11 !
Did you try with Quick GPS Connection and download the newest satelite location files ? You can Try this. You just go to Start -> Settings -> Connection and there is an Icon with name: Quick GPS Connection -> click on that Icon and then press Button: Download Now (Before that Turn on your Wirelless internet connection that software can download this files)
Best Regards,
Drahtman
I think the problem us deeper then actually detecting satellites.
I think the problem us deeper then actually detecting satellites.
I think the IGO software is conflicting with another program.
The strange thing is that it only happens when I set the com port of IGO to 7 (which is the only correct port).
Any ideas?
Same here!
I'm having the same problem, anyone figure this out?
It just stopped detecting satellites, using TT6.
Hi guys,
I've previously used Richesse GPS for geocaching- its a great, free lightweight GPS programme. http://code.google.com/p/richesse-gps/
I can't get it to work on my Jade. I've edited the registry as mentioned on other posts, and have told Richesse to use Com4 at 9600 baud.
I'd be interested to see whether anyone else has successfully used this software on their Jade?
Thanks heaps,
-Clark

Hey thanks for the hint, nice program!
I have no problem getting gps to work, i used com4 / 9600 baud and ticked autoconnect and reconnect. then i activated gps, waited a little while and voilĂ ...works
hope i could help
Strange, as I still can't get it to work. In the "GPS Info" menu item, it says "Status: not running", and I never get any GPS data.
I confirm that Com4 and 9600 baud works on the device, as I've no problems with other GPS software. Have you modified your device firmware or registry settings at all? When you say you "activated GPS", do you mean you just selected "GPS ON" in the Richesse screen?
Thanks for the help!

exactly...
i did:
options-> gps
Port: com4
Baud: 9600
(+) autoconnect
(+)reconnect)
[OK]
Left Softkey (GPS On)
this softkey then changes into GPS Off and when selecting menu-gps info i have status: Running
Stock german ROM, nothing modified...
Have you tried other GPS programs ?
By the way, does the baud rate matter at all ? I Use 4800 bps and it works, too.
Got it working guys- I was doing something stupid! Yes, all other GPS programs worked fine. The reason I couldn't get it to work was I was mis-understanding the "GPS On" button- I assumed that was a status readout, saying the GPS was on.
So when I thought the GPS was on, I was actually turning it off.. Thanks heaps for the help!
Please help
I tried all suggested setting, but I believe it is still not working for me.
As with COM 4 and 9600 setting, it is swtiching on the GPS with left soft key. But it is not retrieving my location and doesn't show the compass as well. Even in the GPS info tab it shows running but other details are unknown like latitude etc.
Please help, thanks in advance!!
Hi
I use TomTom6 with my X1, and it did works fine before. Since a view days I didn't got any GPS-Signal at all. Is there anyone who can help?
Thanks for your help.
Regards, Richard
Simple things to try first:
1. Switch off/on
2. Download the latest QuickGPS file
3. Stand outside for several minutes with Tomtom running
Open up the GPS monitor in Tomtom and you should see the bars move up and down as it acquires satellites. If you see that, just be patient until the bars turn blue which means you have a lock. If you see no bars at all, and maybe a message saying 'No GPS', use the configure option to select the built-in receiver.
Had the same problem and even the new QuickGPS load did not work.
I installed the HTC GPS tool and searched for the Satelites with the "Clear Memory" option. Took a bit longer ~15 Min to get the fix, but now it works fine as well in TomTom
try to disable assisted gps
generally it don't work indoors really try outside
Hi guys

Hello,
I have the same problem with tomtom
I'll try to install garmin, maby it works for me.
- Bert
Finding a GPS signal can be hard for the first time.
1. First make sure that you are in open, with clear, direct view of sky over your head.
2. In Samsung's Settings, go to General Setting>GPS>Connection. Here set the Program Port to COM7, Hardware Port to COM9 and Baud rate to 115200.
3. Now go to General Settings>GPS>XTRA and Enable "Enable XTRA Server". Enable download of data when connected to PC via Activesync and/or When data is expired as per your requirement. XTRA feature uses GPRS to download a small 64 kb file which is valid for about 6 days, after which you must redownload. You can use these two options to automate the process, or you can do it manually by Pressing the Download XTRA Data button. Also enable "Enable SNTP Server".
4. Now for the first time, Download the XTRA data manually by pressing the above mentioned button. Exit out of settings.
5. Start Garmin, Tap on the signal bar and go to GPS Info. Wait and watch for satellite to appear. You should start getting a fix within 10 mins and within 15-20 seconds afterwards.
Cheers!
