P3600 without battery : lose all data ? - P3600 General

Hi !
I had an old HP Ipaq with Wifi and BT, but the problem with this ipaq was very poor : when battery is dead (0%), if i don't/can't charge it, after some hours, i lost all datas ... (tweak, installed software, contacts, email, etc, etc ...
My question is :
Does this HTC P3600 lose all datas if it is not charged somes days or hours after battery failure ?

Nope. As simple as that.

persistent memory
In WM5 MS introduced "persistent memory", it's memory that need no battery to keep its status.
As good as it may sound... this memory is much S L OOOOO W E RRRRR than conventional memory, so for some people it was not such a good choice, but once again: Did you (the user) get choices?
And they call that evolution.......

not sure about P3600, I nvr tried that. But I have an old BenqP50. data all gone if I left it uncharge and batt fully drained off.

flash dont loose data when left wihtout batt
only wm2003 and 2003SE devices and devices with "ramdisks" loose any data from being without a batt for ever

a word abt the batter life of tthe xda , those flags .....

i basically screwed my xda2s ..i mean the registry,..i want to increase my o2's battery life to its full capacity without caring the data loss as i store all my data in my 1gb sd card..but the big question is that why does yur pda leech that battery even when we fu"""ing switch of fthe device...i got some relation with the "flags" in all the power keys in the registry..they all have those specific values..i changed some and got screwed...now what i wanan know is that someone please help me out there ...i just wanna get my pda to give me full battery life..it right now gives me 4 hrs talktime..and works for like 2 days ..but i wanna increse this..i also read that changing to 2g from 3g would help but i have nno ideo watsoevr that xda2s uses this or not..i dunno abt that topic..but what i do know is that there should be no considerably *great* quality loss in the transmission....and thats if the whole thing stans valid...
but whateva be it.. i just need to get my ppc to give me that battery life...
just someone help me out here
1 - The 2s is NOT 3g, so you are already on 2g.
2 - when you turn the device "off", you are putting it into standby. This keeps power going to RAM to prevent dataloss. If the device went off, it would loose all the settings (e.g. a hard reset). The device also needs power to monitor the phone section for activity (incoming calls and messages).
Playing with the registry is unlikely to do much for power consumption, and the onlyu way you are likely to fix you current problem is by doing a hard reset.
For a PDA phone, 4 hrs talk time and 2days is quite good. Remeber, the battery also deteriorates over time (can be helped by discharging completely, then charging overnight, then discharging completely again) and the quoted values are always in "optimal" conditions (full signal etc., a low signal on phone requires more power for the transmitter to function).
You could also increase battery life by turning down the backlight.
Also, is there any chance you could try to type legibly (e.g. fullscentences) and NOT in bold
first of all, yes, you CAN do stuff in the registry that WILL affect power consumption. You can set it so that various components are in specific power rating when in standby/unattended/on... there are 4 different power ratings (1: full on 2: working 3: standby 4: off). However, i can not help you with this, as i have not found out what exactly is going on... Can you tell me what you have found out about it? I hope that the device you are speaking of is similar to the HTC Wizard.
Also, Lithium Ion cells do not really like to be deep cycled (complete discharge)... you do NOT want to drain it. Do NOT discharge it completely. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Li_ion
a low signal on phone requires more power for the transmitter to function

The low signal on the phone indicates the strength of the signal that is RECEIVED. It is NOT about the signal that the phone EMITS. Only if the signal is lost, the phone will start transmitting, full power, to try and reestablish a connection. As long as there is even one bar in your indicator, you are ok.
If someone has a better explanation, please, i want to learn more.
As a side note, i much prefer someone who says correct things with wrong spelling to someone who does the opposite.
re:
ok ,thanx wit all the info guys but i still havent been able to figure out what those flag values in the /control/power/states key stand for..as for the various states..there are also some defualt values like 0x1 , 0x2 , 0x3 0,4.
but what i wanna know is that from the 72 hr rule, and the other "suspended mode-battery draining functions" of my pda.. can i reduce this time to abt 12 hrs or maybe even 20 hrs for the sake.
also ythere are certain irrelevant functions that the xda uses its power on even while its suspened..the basic one is the phone function..of course thats neccessary.but what is unnesseccary is the function of ..lets say camera , bluetooth, and wifi.we do not need these functions when our device is off..so what im looking at is that when i switch off my xda ..i specifically want itr to only use power for minimal critical system processes.
im not sure if you know what i mean but hope you catch the right track.
my xda 2 suffers from poor materials. The battery terminals get a patina on them that stops the battery from charging properly. The only solution was to lightly file/scratch their surface every month or so. It only started after the battery got almost a year old.

ActiveSync Error
I had the same battery problem (fully charged battery, no data or phone calls, quickly drained battery). I discovered that I had a calendar item that would not sync, so ActiveSync just kept trying to sync it over and over, which is what drained the battery. To check, open ActiveSync, select MENU>STATUS and check for any error. If so, delete the bad item (contact, calendar entry, notes, or whatever it is).
u can use the hibernating software

HP 614c battery problem

Hi i have a 614c , it's brand new but the battery is really weak. I didn't format it first when i started using it , might this be the cause ?
Anyway, it lasts just for a day with a little browsing and wi-fi . Brightness is set to middle .The rom installed is WM 6.1 with Manilla 2D. What can i do to make it last longer, underclock the CPU , put another rom what do you recommend ?
Are you using 3g or 2g?
I find 3g chews up a lot of battery life.
I have a data plan at Orange and when it connects it says " Connecting to GPRS,3G" so it means i have it activated . How can i disable it ? Is there a program that can enable/disable it quickly ?

Hi,
After using my iPaq 614c for two months the battery depleted around 10 percent per hour without using WiFi, bluetooth or even the phone. First I thought it was the battery, but after replacing the battery the problem still existed. HP changed my model for a new one which is working 'as expected' (around 2 days on one charge).
I think that the charge part on the 614c was defective.
Have you tried another battery or measured how long your battery lasts when turning everything off ?
charlieMOGUL
I did a test today , left it on at 100 % charge without the sim inserted and when i got back from work it was off with dead battery . Is it possible for the GPS module to be activated without my knowledge ?? It 's the only thing that can eat that much battery

Hi,
No, it isn't possible. GPS only kicks in when asked by some app.But almost for certain, it'll be your activeSync that always try to sync, wether connected or not. Search for the Server-source-trick to disactivate this behaviour.
Dirk
Hmm,
My guess would still be defective hardware (as well). It seems almost impossible that the ActiveSync process can put thatload on the battery.

Battery Life ...HELP PLEASE

Hi,
I have had this handset for around a month..
I have downloaded about 6 extra apps onto the handset..inc google maps, Microsoft Live applications, live player, and others.
However as the applications comes with plentry of extra memeory through the internal and extrnal surely it is meant for this.
However I have a problem with the battery life. The phone last for around 4 / 5 hours, and then dies !!!
I have ordered a replacement battery from orange, and maybe this will solve the problem.
I have not got the blue toothe on, and made sure the apps in use are shut down and not left open.
Can I have any comments from anyone that may have experienced this problem.
Thanks
Andrew
What apps did you download onto your device? I seem to recall reading something about AEBPlus and mapping the wireless function which drains the battery...perhaps others know of more instances with other apps that might help?
apps downloaded are
Google maps
Google mail via JAVA
Live search ie maps, directions, web, and weather
messenger
windows live
I downloaded other smaller apps, however i have now deleted them, or have tried ( but i'll have to post re this, this is another issue )
Andrew
is it connected to wifi or 3g constantly ?
if so that would suck the batt out
my x1 works for 2 days without charging
because i dont have a constant connection
of those 2 sorts running and only have bluetooth on
when i'm using it
1st thing: Check the activesync settings, if activesync is constantly on then you'll need the fake server fix, so that it won't automatically try to find a connection. Also, MoDaCo NoData is useful in this scenario as you can stop any data connection that you want.
2nd thing: Also check for anything else that may be running in the background. Special things to take notice are programs that may need to run all the time. Like a 3rd party alarm etc...
3rd thing: The charger may be screwed up. I had this with mine, and ended up using my Herald's old one. Try charging your mobile using USB (connected on a pc) and see what happens. If you miraculously get more battery life then it means your charger got borged.
Had similar issues, with the phone barely lasting half a day, and now i finish the day with 50% charge. (Activesync was very responsible for 25% of the battery).
Hope i've helped.
I would suggest a hard reset, don't install ANYTHING and see how long it lasts. You probably just need to see it for 5 or 6 hours. After an overnight charge, I'll not be around 97% after 5 or 6 hours. If it's still draining without anything else installed then it is either your charger or your battery.
Hi all,
Thanks you very much for your replies.
I deleted one of the programs, and stil no sign of extra bettery life.
Then i went with the hard reset, ( bit of pain to re apply my email accounts ) this seems to be having an effect, as this obviosly got rid of all my extra programs.
Once i find out the battery life, I will re apply the programs i had on it, to see which ones zapps the battery power.
I hope it is not google maps, i had a lot of favourites saves on it. !!! blast
Thanks
Andrew
Which ROM are you using?
I get 2 days with ease on Dutty's 2.3 X ROM .
Hi Pinx,
Well i'm very PC lit, no so with the HDC HD,
This is what i've read from the settings about -
CE OS 5.2.20764 (BUILD 20764.1.4.3)
Processsor MSM7201A-528Mhz
Memory 195.83 MB
Expansion slot - 8GB HDSC Card. ( come with orange )
Is the one better what you suggested. ???
is the processor my RAM listed above ?
I must seem so niave !
Testing with a batter logger, my HD typically draws around 275 - 300ma when switched on, but this can go up to 450ma if using extras like wi-fi, gps etc.
When in standby, it is drawing typically 35-50ma (but I can't measure this too accurately (because, er, the device is in standby!).
Charging through the usb cable to my laptop puts in 100ma, and through a mains charger a liitle more at around 150ma.
The battery is 1350ma - do the maths!! When constantly in use (eg when loading and testing the device), the battery is likely to last 2 - 4 hours. When in standby, it can easily last over 36 hours.
On a point of interest, I previously had loaded Davideuck's rom 6.5 v3, along with the 1.12 radio. I found the battery drained really quickly. When I changed to Davideuck rom V6 and 1.10 radio, the battey life improved greatly. Now, was this down to either the radio or the rom, or was it simply down to the fact that I spent a couple of days playing with the HD to test everything out??
Battery life and GPS - strange behaviour
I too have noted extremely fast and seamingly randomized rapid battery drainage.
However, I have found something strange. If I use a any type of program that uses the GPS, the phones battery is draining fast aterwards. And I have made sure that any program/process using the GPS is shut down.
If I after having used the GPS soft reset the phone, battery is not affected almost anything in standby. Without the soft reset, the phone gets warm and battery is discharged very quickly.
Anyone else noticed this behaviour?
It is almost as if the GPS receiver is still running (?) even though all programs are shut down. No processes running in the background remaining from Google Maps, Tomtom, Efficasoft GPS or IGO 8 etc which I have tested with.

Yes I agree with the above post. After using google maps even though I closed it down fully and it does not appear in the active task list but the phone still gets hot and battery drains very very rapidly. If I do a soft reset then the battery returns back to normal and the phone is no longer heating up.
I get about 2.5 days with HSDPA on full time for push email and blue tooth on full time. Only a few calls a day.
If I put wi-fi on, then I have to charge by that evening. Wi-fi off and phone just lasts. Waaaay better than the TyTN 2 was. Happiness!

Hi Andrew,
Touch HD has the longest battery life of any similar 'phone. See for example
http://www.pcauthority.com.au/News/137036,mobile-phone-battery-life-htc-vs-iphone-vs-the-rest.aspx.
Either your GPS is staying on after closing Google Maps (soft reset by holding down power button for 3 secs will solve this), or your battery is dud.
Hope this early experience doesn't put you off. After 4 smart phones, this is one of my favourites. You might try deleting Google Maps and replacing with TomTom 7.4. It's a much better program IMHO, and doesn't need to suck data off the net when travelling, but the maps are quite pricey...
Good luck.
Batti may be the problem?
For me Batti (Battery meter program) was the problem.
With this program installed I could hardly get 20% by the end of the working day with light usage.
But now after uninstalling Batti (and installing FInixNOver Battery Icons) I almost never get below 50% even with moderate to heavy usage!
So, my assumption is that Batti drains HD's battery by constantly polling it even when the device is off. At the same time FIxinNOver product only replaces standard icons without interfering into system's polling procedure.
I should also mention that my previous installing/uninstalling/hard-resetting "experiments" did not give any battery life improvement results.

If you notice fast battery drain after using software which uses GPS etc, try using No Data
Handy software which allows you to easily toggle off either Internet, WAP or MMS. When you need to use GPS you can easily switch it on again

Battery thread = sudden death at weekend

It's similar to other battery thread, but not exactly.
I use my HD2 from 5 weeks, and till now, even on the beginning I have very good opinion about battery, I wasn't understand Yours posts about battery weakness.
Till now...
Form a week I use data connections via GPRS ( before that I was on delegation ( roaming ) Whole week was OK, 2, sometimes 3 days on one charging.
Today ( Saturday ) I disconnect charger about 11:00 and now - 23:30 I have only 11% - for me is a total break down.
What's change since yesterday day , and day before yesterday ?
Today I use my HD2 less. I don't use wifi, or gps, I talk 3 times, and send 1 sms - that's it - I also connect 3 times for data update ( weather, mail, rss ) but I did almost the same in last 4 days - even frequently.
Rom that i use its not so important because it wasn't changed it since 2 weeks, and before today it was ok.
Only change is that I was out of gsm network reach ( my parents-in-law live in tiny village - ( I was out 4 or 5h ) and
I know that most of battery goes to network search, but not that amount.
I also had a lot of opened apps in back ground
What could happened ?
I have all battery-tweaks running.
This time, at morning I use official charger, normally I charge using usb active synch cable.
Any ideas ?
Did you do a simple soft reset? It happens that some program sometimes screws up and prevents the phone from entering standby.
My thoughts :
1. Backgroung runnigg apps drain battery - maybe there is some type of app that not closed cause battery drain - processor usage.
2. official charger - to rapid ( to big current ) - charging to quick can give false 100% state flag - in real it's charger for example to half of capacity.
3. out of network - maybe trying to connect for data synch without network cause some kind of 'try loop' that drain battery
4. Most of connection start when I turn screen on - it cannot be coincident to use phone in the time of automatic update almost every time.
Maybe there's some bad routine to check is screen on to start synch. - that drain batt.
I had 1 freez caused by rss hub - and I manage to unfroze it in combination of still working 'start' and 'standby' ( end call ) button.
You can be right wit simple soft reset. I just do it and we will see tomorrow.
I have noticed that the charge frop pc via usb that shows 100% runs out in a much faster time than when phone is turned off and pluged in to mains charger. have also had much better battery life since i flashed radio to 2.07.51.22.2 hope thats of some use to you.
I have the similar situation , again !
It's funny because my battery life is very short when I'm NOT using phone at all.
Yesterday I check my phone only twice , and i sow that batt level change from 47% to 9% in just 5 h ! ( loss of 38% ) - but from 100% at Saturday evening to Monday morning - 47% ( loss of 53 % ) it takes 40h.
I think that's all about some application, probably htc email data update. it's working hard when phone is in stand by , or it prevent processor to goes to stand_by mode.
You indeed have a program preventing standby, this matches what you can see here.
I'd recommend installing a program that can show current consumption (like battclock), making a soft reset, anc checking standby current regularly inbetween opening programs etc to try and find out the culprit.
