Modifying the Extended_ROM for the HTC6800 - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

OK.....Trying to unlock the extended rom to modify/remove and place cab files in it. I have used the titan.cab to view the extended rom under file explorer but am not able to change anything. Am I missing something.

Currently the Titan ext ROM has not been unlocked yet. I think some people are working on it, but it still is not unlocked.

yeah but jasjars ext rom is not hidden but its locked....opposite to what youve said
Well, i have been successful in copying the contents of the ext.rom to my notebook. I have also deleted all the unnecessary files from the ext.rom and done a hard-reset but lo behold...they re-appear!
I am wondering if there is anyway we can just delete those files so that they can be used for storage.
Any takers?
Just recieved my Qtek 9100 and installed Total commander, I can see the extended rom folder but it is empty!??? How come???

Restoring files from extended rom?

I have a T-Mobile MDA Vario and to get rid of standard T-Mobile wallpapers aand stuff I have deleted some files from the extended rom, using the program Total Commander. Off course I've made a backup of the extended rom first.
However, I deleted one file that I like to have back. How can I restore that file from my back up?
Cheers
The actaul t mobile stuff is written in to customisation file for the k jam.
I initially di dteh hard reset, then reset again. But my phone still had the tmobile phone pad erghhh.
So hard reset, browse through your back up and play with files till you find the one you need. Run from the sd card.
Hmm, I still do not get it. I have put the file i'd like to have back in my extended rom on my SD. Now, if I run that particular .cab file, I get confirmnation that the file has been installed.
However, if I explore my extended rom with Total Commander, the file has not been put back in the extended rom. Even if I soft reset.
So, can anybody explain how to put a back upped file that is on my SD back into the extended rom?
Another question I can not find a clear answer for: how do I get into bootloader so I can update my TMobile Vario Rom to a I-mate rom. Any step by step how-to?
Thanks
Still learning what I can about this stuff, n00b.....
Hi,
Just copy and past it back to the Extended_ROM, on the Vario the Extended_ROM is only hidden, not locked. It should be named Hidden_RAM
Cheers,

Unlock Extended ROM

Has somebody managed to unlock the extended ROM ?
The registry hacks which work on other HTC devices don't work !!
is there extented rom part? after hard reset automatically run customization? I guess no.... I think there is no EXT_ROM...
I just want to uninstall some of the standard HP applications to free up some space. I only have experience with HTC devices using a ROM in which the customizations are stored in cab-files.
Is there also a way for the hw6915 ?

there is a utility that allows to unlock a hidden folder named "2"
but to unload HP crap i guess you can just delete from the startup folder in wondows? you can see it using resco file explorer or something like that showing hidden files.

Replace files in ROM via CAB installer

Please help me someone how to make CABs which can replace system files in ROM (e.g. gwes.exe etc.). I know that there are many users who know how to do these CAB files...
BTW I have searched all available WM5 forums and found nothing
You can't actually replace ROM files using a cab. What you can do is overwrite any ROM file once, with a file that has the same name. The actual file will be stored in the normal storage memory and referenced instead of the original ROM file by anyone trying to access it.
If you hard reset (format) the device the original file will be back.
There are no special actions required to do this. Create a cab as usual with the files you want.
Note two things: 1)You really don't want to mess with gwes.exe because you are likely to crash your device. 2) On some devices, replacing system files may require changing security settings first. If your cab fails because of permission issues, search for 'Application unlock' for your device.
Thanx very much for your reply I want to mess with system files because I'm going to make translation of my device I tryed to make CAB file but it seems my device (Mio A701) is locked so you say I must search for "application unlock" specially created for my device? Isn't there any universal unlock for WM5 devices?

how do i get into my extended rom?

i want to copy the cabs and some files from my new sprint rom so i can reinstall them in a new dcd rom, how do i access the hidden ext rom?
The Vogue doesn't have an extended rom like some of the previous models. Most of the files and cabs will be in the windows folder on the device. Make sure you enable show all files in file explorer. Hope that helps.
