Wifi issue on Hermes/8525 - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

I searched A LOT and read A LOT and can't seem to solve two of my wifi issues.
The first is the most annoying and happens on all wifi spots. I find a spot, connect just fine and I'm good to go (with the exception of the issue below). Use the wifi, have a grand old time. Now, when I come back into the same spot (home, coffeeshop, work), the network shows unavailable. I can soft reset and it will usually find it but why should I have to soft reset? Why are they unavailable? If I've removed the settings, they won't even appear when I know I'm in a wifi spot. The phone sits there and cycles through unavailable networks every minute.
The other issue is with wireless at school. When you first connect, you have to fill out this little form to get authorized (name, email, accept agreement). I've done that before and now, when I see a router for the first time (like above... I've soft reseted or just walked into the hotspot for the first time), it will find it, take a little longer than usual, and connect. I get about clicks in before it tries to locate for a minute and then tells me it can't find the page. Then. after a minute of so, connection is unavailable, no more wifi on campus for me.
Thanks for your help... I'm on all stock ROMs/radios, fresh out of the box from AT&T

Still having this problem... any ideas?

SOS !!! Help !!! Cingular 8525 and WifFi

Folks,
I am desperate and I need help - I have had a Cingular 8525 for about a month now. Everything was going fine till Christmas day -
exactly a day after my 30 day return period :-(.
The issue is that every time I turn on Wifi, my device finds countless connections (I live in an apartment complex filled with
young professionals). From here, I go nowhere but downhill. If the phone goes to sleep while the WIFI is turned on, it does not wake up
at all. I do the only one thing that remains to be done and that is reset the phone. This time the device boots up however
the WiFi is still turned on and the phone shows a big exclamation where the bars are supposed to be. Then I get an
error "The Operation failed". Even a clear storage does not solve the issue. If I keep the phone turned off for about a day
and go to a location where there are no Wifi networks, everything is fine again.
I got Cingular to send me a Warranty Exchange device and Lo and Behold, I have the same problems with the second phone
too. I spoke with data device support and they asked me to go to a Cingular store where the device works fine as there are
no WiFi networks there.
I cannot return, cannot use my phone to the fullest extent and am in despair. Can someone tell me if there is any miracle that
I can utilize at this time. Please help !!!
p.s. - I have never installed any third party apps on the phones.
Cannot take time to answer this right now but, the answers are alraedy posted on this board. It does not sound as if there is anyting wrong with the phone except the not waking up part which is a known issue and also documented here. Also try the Wiki http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Hermes
I will check in again later

Mike,
Any help is appreciated. None of the topics below cover issues with WiFi. Once I turn on the WiFi, it will not turn off even with a hard reset or soft reset and then the phone shows the exclamation "!" !!!
Well just for starters I'm going to suggest that you DO add two applications - most importantly Magic Button
http://www.trancreative.com/mb.aspx
With this tool installed you will be able to see from the task bar what programmes are running on your device. (You may or may not know that applications that are opened and then shutdown with the X at top right corner are NOT actually closed but running in the background. Magic Button will allow you to see these and close them down - particularly Active Sync which will get in the way of your WiFi connection.
I think you are not getting any wifi connection but you are detecting networks from folks around you?? Does it detect your own network? and if so at what stage do you have a problem.
If your own network is being detected but the usual means of connecting e.g. by entering WEP key is failing then you might want to install an application called Hitchhiker http://www.kasuei.com/hitchhiker/ this application resolves various conflicts and will re-establish IP address and will allow you to enter the WEP key or even copy and paste it in. Once run and connected hopefully, you can close down Hitchhiker (if you want to) and connect to wifi by your normal route (Hitchhiker will have saved the connection information to the standard locations so you don't need to use Hitchhiker each time you want to connect) (Note you must also download and install the .Net Framework a link for which is also given on the Hitchhiker page given above)
Finally (for now) you say Wifi is on all the time even after soft reset. But you can switch it off, in more than one way. Here's one way, below the on/off switch right hand side is another hard key for the "Communications Manager" . On the screen that comes up you will see an aerial with waves radiating from it. Tapping will close and tapping again will re-open. Here you can also open and close the phone function, though I never close mine.

Wi-Fi Won't Turn On most of the time

My HTC HD has WIFI Problem: WiFi will not turn on most of the time.
After tapping the Wi-Fi Switch (in Communications Tab) it hangs for about 7 seconds then stops.
Sometimes after 6 seconds the wifi Icon will appear for 1/2 a second but then disappears.
The only way I can get it to connect at all is if the device is cool and I remove the battery for a while....
...Then restart it and Wi-Fi will switch on sometimes (but fail most of the time).
I have flashed the ROM (by different Cookers) many times, Hard Reset the device many times, and used all different power settings: Still no good.
If error reporting is ON I get error message "device.exe' problem.
As I live in Australia I would have to pay heaps for freight if I send it back to UK so I'm loath to do so.
Anybody know what should I do to fix it?
(PS. My old Diamond connects every time)
I have a similar WiFi connectivity problem, but after reading of the poor service provided by most vendors and HTC itself, I will try to gather some more experience with the problem before I contact HTC or my vendor, and hopefully find a solution. Bellow is my experience so far:
I own an HTC Touch HD since January and have a similar problem, only it surfaced last week. Before I had only used the WiFi connectivity briefly. The problems started after I installed an AP on my house expressively for the new PDA. The node is fully open and set to B/G/N protocols.
After a couple days of medium (couple hours per day) use the WiFi connection suddenly quit, the device would try to connect (the top bar showing the WiFi connection animation continuously) and after a few moments gave up with a dialog box stating the current network settings were wrong (even thou they worked fine a few hours earlier).
I tried several hot and cold resets, but only solved the problem after flashing a new ROM; even then the same symptoms reappeared after a couple of days of regular use. Again no re-setting would cure the problem, and now not even flashing the ROM again would work. Nonetheless, some hours latter the WiFi would connect perfectly with the same nodes it refused to before, and in very short time.
I have witnessed this cycle twice and have yet not been able to find a trigger for it, but will keep my eyes open for any tell tale signs, and post any findings here.
What I found out is that If you are using CommManager in TF3D together with other wifi mgr it screws up the wifi. Either you use CommManager or you use 3rd party one but not both at the same time.
Agreed!
Yes I agree completely; something on the permanent storage area got corrupted last week after I installed WiFi Monster (which I like, and recommend, only not at the same time as the standard connection manager).
I managed to get the WiFi conection working again (if only for a couple of days...) by doing the Start>Settings>Clear Storage thing and following the re-install.
Ok, so at least now I know of one more thing that can screw up th HD's WiFi besides itself!
i cant connect to my wifi in my same bedroom !!!
Enhancing WiFi performance
If you get very low range, or frequent connection interruptions, it might help to go to: Settings>Connections>Wi-Fi>Advanced>Power Mode and set it to "Best Performance"
PS. I wonder if anybody gets intermittent WiFi problems like myself. One day it works perfectly, the next it will not connect showing a dialog box: "Warning Cannot connect to the network. Check your network and service provider settings and try again"

Wifi cellular connection strange problem

Hi all, Searching all over for answers. Appreciate your help very much, not to be long-winded, but trying to be detailed. I've posted this message on other forums with no replies. Looking like not a common problem.
My phone Samsung Omnia SCH-i910, has the Verizon GPS unlocked ROM i910.10 V.CF03.2096 (WM6.1 Pro), don't think it's an issue here. My trouble is after using WiFi, will not work with cellular data. (Does not always happen, but seems to be related). Will "connect", but cannot download email, and cannot display web pages. After spending a hour on phone with Verizon support last week, went through 3 reps, finally resorting to hard reset cleared it up. Been working fine since today when try to connect wireless again. Another issue that may be related, I have a Linksys WRE54G range expander at home, which has been working great. The access point/router is at business 800 feet away with a parabolic antenna pointing at house.
For some reason mobile devices have trouble with it, as did an LG LRM-519 that I've since given up. PC clients have no trouble at all, get "5 bars" anywhere at home, but Omnia (or old iPaq H2215) will not connect through range expander. I believe trying messes up Omnia will not communicate over cellular afterwards (without hard reset). Earlier this week close to AP, no trouble switching from WiFi to cellular and back again. At home Omnia will connect to WiFi, but signal is weak, and useless as far as email and internet. I know if I get closer to router/AP will be able to connect and download/upload fine. But EVDO data still not working, reviewed all the settings again, deleted the wireless network settings, soft resets, *228 programming, changed around "My ISP", "Work", and "Connects to Internet" settings. Not sure about "Hidden Network" checkbox, thought at one time might have connected through range expander at home with 5 bars on Omnia with box checked on, but was not consistant. What does this setting mean?
I know a hard reset will fix the issue, until next time. Like to find the real answer to avoid again having to get it back to where I like.
"Next time" is here again, searching for the true answer before having to hard reset.
Thanks for your time and help.....

WiFi Connection Unsuccessful Message

I've noticed that my [rooted] Vibrant frequently has trouble connecting, or staying connected, to WiFi networks.
At first I thought it was specific to my Verizon Actiontec WiFi router, however I've also noticed this at my office, where we use Motorola routers, as well as a few other locations that I frequent.
It's still possible that its a site-specific problem, but, less likely as I'm seeing this in a few locations.
Symptoms:
I configure my phone to connect to X network.
It successfully connects and all it fine.
I get out of range, it no longer sees network X and disconnects.
Some time later I return to my previous location and expect that in N seconds/minutes the phone will automatically reconnect.
A considerable amount of time passes and I notice it's still not connected.
I check the wifi settings and it days connection unsuccessful.
I tap the network, click connect and it works.
I've also noticed this after connecting to a network and the phone goes to 'sleep' or into an idle state. When a wake it up, it doesn't always automatically reconnect.
Anyone else seen this?
Any suggestions?
Many thanks.
i've had that problem. i am not sure what it was because I was rooted and Ryaned. I got sick of all the stupid lil bugs and had to wipe format and unroot. Now that I am back to the original condition, theres this sense of comfort knowing if something buggy happens, it's not "my" fault.
Thanks for the reply.
I noticed this prior to rooting and 'Ryan'ing'.
The capacitive buttons don't work all that well from time to time - specifically the Home button so maybe I should just exchange it. I'll call TMO tomorrow to see what they say.

[Q] DVP not recognising home WiFi anymore.

Hi, I recently bought a 16Gb DVP on WinMo7 and for three weeks had no Wifi problems at all. It recently stopped finding my home WiFi router. It finds both neigbours routers but mine is missing from the list.
I then got an update notification for the Mango update which I competed. the router didn't return in my list of networks immediately but about two days after.
It has now dissapeared again but 'Mango' has the added 'Advanced' button to see 'known neworks'. My home router is in this lst but I cant access the settings or force any paring.
I've tried the obvious of turning it off and on. I've reset my router, reset my phone back to a clean boot of windos 7.5 (mango) and still no results for finding my router. All the other phones in the house and all laptops find it fine so I can only presume it is the DVP.
Details:
OS version - 7.10.7720.68
Firmware Version - 2250.1800.7720.219
Don't know if this helps.
Does anyone hav any idea why and what I can do to resolve it.
thanks
Jock
Try changing the SSID (name of your wireless network) to something else and see if your DVP can see it and make sure the SSID is not hidden.
Thanks, tried that last night. No luck I'm afraid.
On the router admin now and It's all as it should be fom my service provider settings.
I have a full signal of my neighbours router and just don't understand why it's chosen mine to not even find. When it appeared last time it was after turning the router off all night. I tried that again last night but it didn't appear this morning when I turned it back on.
Confused !!!
Jock
have you been able to connect to and maintain future connections to other wireless networks? if the same problems happens with other networks, I'd run a factory restore on your phone as it seems there might be a software issue. However if you can connect and then are able to re-establish a Wifi connection to other networks then I'm stumped!
I've just changed the SSID to something completely different and it's appeared and I'm now connected again.
All I can say is that it connects to the router for around a week and then the network dissapears.
Short of changing the name every 7-10 days I can't really see another resolve.
In answer to your other question, I haven't really used it on other networks.
I'll see how it goes with this new name.
Thanks for all your help and suggestions
Jock
After reading other posts, this might be an issue with the .219 firmware that you are on. Just keep checking for updates. You could try a hard reset of the phone and then a reboot of the router
Also make sure your router is set to either B or G mode. Check my post here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1324949
Thanks, I did a hard reset when it first went off, still found nothing when it re-booted. I'll keep an eye out for the firmware update.
Thanks again.
My phone just started doing this as well. Very frustrating as I cant download large updates and I dont want to exceed my data cap. I am totally fed up with this phone!
Fixed. Called Dell. Long press network name. Press delete. Press network name when it shows again. Reenter password. Works!
