Tomtom 6 & quickgpsfix - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

Is it possible to get quickgpsfix to work on the Hermes? I have a T-Mobile MDA Vario II.
In Tomtom plus services, I see quickgpsfix, but it's not downloadable (greyed out).
The tomtom faq indicates that it's only available for specific tomtom devices, but I'm sure i've seen somewhere that quickgps fix works on a Kaiser, yet that is not listed as a supported device.

Typical for this forum: If someone ask for a real usefull question for apps or tweaks he get no answer!
Everybody is in the Kaiserforum or messing around with useless romcooking.
Anyway
I tried the quickgps app form here:
http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=23432&whichpage=7#301098
Installation worked well (is updating the amanarch from a server too)
but i must say it did not really reduce the time to get a fix.
I wonder if there is some tweaking neccesary to make it work on a Hermes?

Thanks Andreasfuntastic. I will check it out.
Cheers
Mike

WLAN Analyzer...

Has anybody come across a good network analyzer that works on the Universal? I have tried several but to no avail...
Thanks in advance...

Read my signature, should be enough.
If not, search for ministumbler in the universal forum.
WiFiFoFum, or Hitchhiker. Both work beautifully on my spv m5000.
Hey Helio
If you looked at my question I am looking for a network analyzer not just a LAN recognizer. I have WIFIFOFUM running on my machine... I want to go further and analyze network traffic. Not just find an unprotected Network. But I appreciate the jab about being a noob and to use the search function.
Cyb
glad someone does.
so, you are after a proggy that can monitor the data being transfered? or to break wep keys? or to just generally keep usage statistics?
monitor the data...
Yes after a proggy that can monitor the data being xferred. Tried some various that claim they can but none functioned on the Universal. Any clue?
Cyb
I have tried vxsniffer with no success on jasjar.

The search feature on this forum is rubbish.

I really don't want to inflame things further, however, don't all search engines depend upon the keywords they're asked to search on?
I believe mind reading search engines have yet to be invented!
P.S: Not a "'clever' twxt", just one of those mutually trying to help each other maximize their devices.
just to check, is the universal capable of breaking wep keys?
Yes - but do you really -want- to suck up many megabytes of traffic, and then sit around with your universal as it calculates for hours on end to crack it ?
I *guess* if you do, then you must have some real financial or data-wise interest in cracking somebody's WEP %)
Back on track...
To put this thread back on track... Does anyone know of a wlan analyzer for the Universal?
Thanks!

RE
Have you try IP Dashboard Monitor? Here:-
http://www.pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=9463
I tried several products to monitor connections similar to what Ethereal does, none of them would work until I found "PhatNet", which works like a charm on my O2 XDA IIi (HTC Alpine):
http://pocketland.de/product.php?SID=5ee8e3a820f3a547b72430ea224f8472&prod_id=17476
Don't let the german page put you off, just click on the .exe or .cab download link. The software is in english. It's a 15 day full version trial.
Not sure if it will work on the Universal too, but worth a try.
hth,
Tin
Works or appears to work on the T-mobile 1.20.32 WWE ROM, but I believe the problem maybe that Phatware nolonger offers this program for sale, and so it's not possible to get the registration code.
http://www.socketcom.com/product/SW1221-596.asp
work super
Phatnet and vxsniffer
Cyberslinger,
the above references are the only ones I came accross after searching for a sniffer and protocol analyzer (heliosfa, maybe you could google for "protocol or packet analyzer"...).
Never had the opportunity to use them.
I suspect these two will sniff only layer 3 and will no give you a real promiscuous mode on 802.11 if that's what you're after...
I even searched if ethereal had been ported to familiar for my Ipaq 5550 and couldn't find it.
I'm still using my airopeek/airmagnet...
Cheers,
Hal.

noob q - need uk maps/directions app but i have no gps

I have a 512mb card, i would like to install an app that will allow me to plan journey (only need uk maps) and give me on screen directions. Initially gps navigation is not necessary but i would like the option to incorporate this possibly at a later stage....
If possible i'd like to keep it as cheap as possible (who wouldnt?), and i dont really feel like spending £££ on a tom tom setup for pda because the way i see it i might as well get a tom tom 300....
Try Navizon, it's navigation using AP's & cell-towers. I didn't got it working, need to spend some time for it. It's free (or trial can't remember exactly) but needs gprs/AP to the web.

If you don't need GPS, have you got AutoRoute or MapPoint on your PC? If you have you can install Pocket Streets which is a free add in with both pieces of software. Just a thought!
Check out a tomtom 3. now that version 5 is out, version 3 is cheap and can be used to plan a route (just tell it where to start & finish), then at any point a gps mouse will give you full satnav for not much outlay. However if you just want printed instructions of A->B then google for routeplanner, AA & RAC both have one (sure there are many many others too). Input your start & end locations and then print the map & directions off.

It wont be supported, but it may run fine. if you dont mind a possible hard reset aquire a copy & try it, if it works ok great, if not ignore me for forgetting it was designed to WM2003
You could try Mapopolis http://www.mapopolis.com

I am very, very sure that installing TT3 on a WM5 device is not something that is going to work. Even 5 needs an update for WM5 compatibility.
there's always...
there's always...
www.earthcomber.com
free mapping software
wm5 no prob
accurate too
next step for me is to setup www.navizon.com to provide a "faux" GPS signal to it!!!
Just stumbled upon Earthcomber independent of this thread--wow this is a cool program! Anyone had issues with it? I've already got it installed and running on my Wizard, but looking to avoid issues others have already found. Thanks...

Cingular 8525 - various connection problems, app specific

Ok, I've recently purchased a 8525 from Cingular Wireless (USA), because I liked the phone and it's a good management tool. My only complaint is I play a mud game (ooh... yeah... mudgame ) here at http://www.dsl-mud.org , now I work for a large banking institution and more often than not, I find myself with too much time on my hands. I've spent two weeks searching for possible fixes to this, but I cannot seem to connect to the telnet to play it. If I use Terminal Client Services, I can connect to the server, which I am not the owner of DSL and have no access to it. If I try to put in the port # (mud.dsl-mud.org:4000 or www.dsl-mud.org:4000) it won't recognize the port because of the : I've tried upgrading the .NET Framework... to no avail as well.
Also, problem #2 is my Pocket MSN, which works great, I really do love the app, but after about a minute, I can send messages but not recieve any.... any ideas (Before and after .NET Framework update)
Edited to add this:
Also, using bluetooth connection, I cannot seem to connect to my brother's RAZR V3 phone to send files etc. The two will recognize eachother but it only shows "Dialup Networking" as the services available
The phone is the Cingular 8525 (hermes), no 3rd party app's except for the multiple telnet clients I've tried... is it possibly a registry edit I need to do?
Thanks in advance (I asked here because after searching through multiple forums, you guys seem to be the most knowedgeable/helpfull)
Hallo and welcome to the forum DSLMulassassin.
Unfortunately I am not competent to answer your question(s).
I just wanted to say that often more answers are gained when the thread title gives fairly specific info on the problem. So where people might not look at a thread called "a little confused here" they might open a thread called "problems connecting to telnet". This also helps greatly when people search based on thread titles. So if you get good answers, folks doing future searches on "telnet" will benefit as well.
Hope you get some replies
Mike
Yeah, you're correct Mike, just it's late and I couldn't think of a better topic, but you are 100% right.
Fixed bluetooth problem
For Terminal Services, frankly, upgrade to Crossbow, or search around for the registry hack that lets you specify a custom port. Can't remember it off hand, it might be in the wiki. Fuzzy search for it, or google the site.

Vijay -
While I agree that upgrading to Crossbow would probably be better, I do not feel like flashing my ROM, I say that because I am too new to this, and do not want to risk Bricking my device... maybe when I've read over everything for a few more weeks and feel comfortable that I know what I'm doing. Do you think it might be a registry setting blocking ports?

Freeware GPS utility

VIto FindMe lets you send your location via an encrypted SMS to a friend also using Vito FindMe and then allow them to input the co-ordinates into Google Maps to see where you (and they) are at that time.
http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-vito-findme.html
Downside is the fact that it appears to be currently working with "Pocket PC Phone Edition with built-in GPS receiver". May have to wait for the possible GPS unlock later this year to test it with our Moguls.
Just as info...
Hi, i've already post it on the gps unlock thread, but for someone who wish interesting free navigation soft... Get a look at
http://www.gpsunderground.com/forums/index.php
If you like vito, try Vito smart navagtor, that combine all the Vito tools...
And may be Tracky will interest you.
Also Navizon and Reperion may be tryed.
In fact when i've got my P4000 the tech supp, was tolding me that the gps chip of my device was not locked-up, and that i should found and 3rd app that fit my device....(that techn was less knowing than me lol)
So i tried many app.
Gpspassion may also be an interesting forum for info about gps...
Wish will help you, to dicover the gps interesting worls.
P.S. in community that you're looking for (net tracking) you'll find tools like registring for you and your friends point of interest like: automatic speed radars cameras, speed limits( the soft will advise you of over-speed), many other geocatching funny tools.

http://www.navizon.com/phpbb2/index.php (Navizon is a peer-to-peer virtual gps using cell tower, with a reward program for the users that help creat the localisation net. Advantage get localisation in city or subway (like subway maps) were some other gps failled, but in regional area it"s really not the better one's 'cause it need cell towers)
yea but taht VITO FindMe doesnt work with 6800 tho
Does not work with 6800 yet !!
True... Mentioned it in my post. There might be a work around to get it to work though and considering the talent of the forum, I am sure someone will find a way.
FindMe generates position errors of up to 150 metres when I try it. i think it may be miscalulating the lat/long in decimal from the lat/long returned by the GPS. GPS is OK with all other GPS apps I have run on my Kaiser (v1615).
Apart from that it's a great app

TomTom - I give in!

Hi all - great forum. Hoping to be around for good while soaking it all up.
I'm a new owner of an SPVM5000. Loving it with Opera and running it on WiFi with Terminal Services.
Proper happy with it - but, I want to get TomTom working on it.
I've downloaded all manner of pirate copies/maps etc, simply because I don't know if it works and wanted to try it first - and more specifically, know which version to buy..
I mean, once I know what works, I'll go and buy the thing from somewhere but, as yet, I can't get it working. Am I missing something glaringly obvious? I keep getting a "No Maps Found" error.
Anyway, Google tells me this is doable and I'm not looking for piracy tips, just a nod as to what version will work and perhaps the cheapest place to get it from if there's anywhere else than TomTom's naff site.
Ideally, I'd love to chuck some credit card details somewhere and get a legit download for it that I can put onto the SD card and away we go, but I think I might be pushing it - it's all boxed goods I think?
Any help for one of your older members, I'd be very grateful.
Cheers!
Hello there,
I have Navigator version 6 running very successfully on my SPVM5000.
A couple of things to check.
1. Is your memory card inserted? tomtom needs this, as the maps will be stored on it.
2. The maps are stored in a folder on the root level of the storage card.
The name of the folder depends on what geographical version you have.
Being in the UK my folder is Western_Europe. Inside the folder you are looking for 3 files. cline.dat, cname.dat and cnode.dat. They are the map files. If they are not there you have been given no maps!!
Hope this helps.
Hi - thanks for the reply.
I've followed the guide on here to change the registry for the GPS options and now if you say TT6 works, I can go with that. I had read TT5 is quicker so that's an option too I guess.
Yeah, the maps have the filenames you mention there and they were on the root of the storage card in a folder named Great-Britain-Map
Cheers.
mail me with details, i have the instructions for spv m5000 installation of tomtom
Thanks - I'm up and running now.
Do you still need a GPS BT Reciever with the Universal? Or does it have built in GPS?
I am new to PDA's and all this malarky.,.,
GPS receiver needed mate.
