Hi guys, I'm new to Universal section, maybe someone knows me from Tornado section or some others.
Universal is being shipped to me, and
I have several questions - yes I searched for them.
I just want to make sure Universal can't use HSDPA or EDGE - well everyone says no but I ask it once again - surely?
Secondly, i am new to HTC Palmphones and I ask - is there anything like application lock or CID lock in Universal like in Smartphones?
To end, I'd like to ask if there is a free sim unlock solution for an Uni
One more question: Is there SDHC support in some ROMs for Uni?
Thanks guys, greetings Hope my Uni ships soon
Well, I dont own a universal now, but, I can surely answer your questions.
**Uni can not use HSDPA
**cid unlocking is avaliable for universal and yes, its free
**newer WM6 ROMs have SDHC support

Firstly, i have just received my m5000 that i bought from ebay.
i am a novice and i do have loads of questions. i do hope, although some of the questions are likely to be stupid, that i will not insult you.
roms
as far as i understand, this is the combitation of design and software that can be installed on my device - am i correct?
Also, from reading the forum, the most popular rom is o2 exec - is it worth overwriting my orange rom? if you had m5000 - would you do it?
does this o2 exec rom have tomtom navigation? or how can i add it?
Device itself
How to switch the thing off??? this question puzzled me for the whole day - how do i completly switch off this thing to change the simcard for example??
games
Are there any good games i can download? ) What will you recommend, as it got boring at work lately
simlock
my device is locked to orange, but i use Three. Is it worth getting this unlocked at orange (i will have to contact the seller, pay 20 pounds, etc...) or would you in my place just get the orange sim for now? I know there is no exact answer to my question, but what will you do?
sorry again for some basics, i hope i did not annoy you too much!
Switching off
Hi,
You can switch your M5000 by entering the program called "Wireless Manager". In there, click on "All Off". You will notice that you mobile network, bluetooth and Wifi will stop. Then you can just power off your M5000 and wait for 10 seconds before you can remove your battery.
That's how I will switch off my O2 Exec.
Good luck!
Regards,
Johnnie
And why? I just take the battery out if I wanna take the SIM out
IGS, please respect time of people here and spend some time researching first. Read the posts from last few days, use search function, use google. All the answers are there. And only if you can't find it then ask questions like this.
To get the navigation software and hardware - you have to buy it
If you wanna use your 3 simcard, unlock the device, if not, what's the point?
ROM is like Windows on your PC, an operation system without which your M5000 won't work.
Games: there is a very good topic called GAMES FOR EXEC
Hey Everyone first time poster here so bear with me, first off just like to say this is an excellent website/forum loads of help on here thanks for everything everyone has posted already
Basically i'm fairly new to having a Vario or Wizard whichever you prefer but i'm wondering which is the best ROM for day to day use i.e improves call quality and lots of nice functions or gets rid of the stupid t-mobile stuff! lol
Tell me what you fellow users have and why you like it and i'll make the switch
Thanks for your help guys
Rich
I'm using the ROM by Molski see http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=59513 on my Tmobile vario. I have no issues with it whatsoever. It is faster, more stable, no random reboots, leaves more free space and comes with no operator branding. I would recomend you to upgrade to Molski's ROM with the following caution.
Don't upgrade anything without establishing wether you have a G3 or G4 device.
Unlock your Sim and CID locks with Lokiwiz see http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=33796
Read through the above threads completely and check out http://www.molski.biz/ for further info.
Once you have identifed your flash chip and unlocked the phone make sure you download the correct ROM for your device. You will have to install the Tmobile settings for MMS and gprs after upgrading but there are links to the correct cab files in the above threads, which you WILL read before upgrading.
ah right cool sounds good and thank you i will be sure to have a read through those threads
excellent ROM thanks man!
Hi all,
I just received my HTC Tytn today. Before I go loading a whole bunch of apps and all my info onto it, I wanted to check with all the experts here on a couple things: I've been reading as much as I can on this forum over the last 3 days since I ordered the Tytn to get up to date on all the issues/updates/etc... I see a lot of talk about a forthcoming ROM update from HTC that many are referring to as an AKU3.0 variant. 1) Does anyone know when this is to be released? My second question is, 2) in the meantime, which English language ROM would you recommend that I put on this Tytn? I-mate? Cingular? Keep the HTC? I guess I'm looking for the one with least amount of problems. (Who isn't... right?)
Many thanks in advance for all your help! I'd be lost without this forum!!
SP
Hi everyone, I've just purchased an SPV M5000 off ebay and it should be with me on Wednesday. I've been reading up on this for a few hours but still have some questions which I'd appreciate some help with if you can.
I understand the Orange SPVM5000 is sim locked, is this true and how easy is it to unlock. I will be using this with an iBook and The Missing Sync software. I can use virtual PC if need be to flash the rom, but would I be better off going to a shop / market stall and paying a tenner?
My first question is: is the Orange branding as slow as the O2 Active branding? I'd hate it to be as slow as some reviews are saying.
I have read a lot about the corporate install option on the O2 XDA Exec, I presume this is available on the SPV M5000 as well - can someone please confirm? I have read that you need to enter the O2 connection settings on the Exec when you enter corporate mode, do you have to do this on the M5000 as well? If so can someone please post the settings?
If I flash the rom or debrand the phone, will I need to contact Orange to get GPRS & MMS re-enabled? They told me that they won't help me directly as I did not register the phone.
I am really looking forward to getting this but want to get it running at a good speed, so any assistance would be gratefull received.
James
First I would like to say you made a great choice going with Windows Mobile. After my first device I considered myself a spokesperson for WM.
I also had an Orange SPV M5000 in the past and if you call them up they will give you the unlock code. The free way would be to get Buzz_Lightyears sim unlock tool available from his website buzzdev.net
If you feel confident enough you can do everything to the phone yourself, but as it is a very expensive unit you have think twice about doing any flashing to the phone.
My o2 active UI was very slow, and only got slower as more programs were open. The orange one responds a bit faster, but I dont know many people who keep the original stuff on there anyway. There are so many programs out there that can do alot more.
I do not believe there is a corporate mode install on the Orange version but you dont need any connection settings anyway.
Once you get the phone you will have to configure the network settings for MMS and GPRS yourself. I notice that u have are with fido as I am, but am pretty sure the settings will be different since you are in the states.
You can try these setting for GPRS and see if they work:
APN: wap.fido.ca (or mayb .com)
USER: fido
PASS: fido
Your last question about speed is that there are so many programs out there that enable you to do what you want but you have to keep in mind that each open program slows the phone down so you have to make a compromise somewhere.
Hope this helps
Thank you very much for your help. I set my profile up wrong initially when I registered on here, I am actually in the UK and will probably use an Orange SIM for the phone, so I don't really need to unlock it I guess.
I would like to change the software though, could you tell me what settings I will need to enter and where (I will find the actual values for Orange UK)?
Many thanks
James

debrand SPV M5000
Hi there
I was wondering is the anyway to debrand Orange SPV M5000
If yes, is it complicated process?
Please advice
Kind regards,
Arian
Hey,
if you do a little research on this forum and its wiki it's not hard to find the methods to reflash your Universal with another provider ROM. If this is what you mean by debrand
Take a look here: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/inde...tion On How To Upgrade with Bootloader method
If you find any error it's quite possible you'll find its solution in the forum already
Good luck!

Hi,
I am a newbe with the MDA´s and I hope you can help me.
I have a T-mobile MDA Vario I that is locked to Tmobile. I would like to unlock it. Is this possible? What do I have to do?
Is it possible to install Windows Mobile 6 on the Vario 1? I would need a german version and instructons.
I have used the search function, but it always says the search term is too short and I do not know what my Vario I actually is ( qtek 9100, HTC Wizard? ).
Thank you in Advance!
Welcome to the wizard owners community
Your device is just wizard. It has many names though. Mine is the same, but probably you have a german one. As for unlocking, i used lokiwizb tool, found here in the forum, but i guess it is easier to do it with aWizard application, also found here. all you need is a usb cable, activesync and mentioned software. Don't remember the details (it was over 1.5 year ago and i don't do it often) but it was quite easy and worked. I'll try to find direct links and post them here. Hope i can help. On the other hand, WM6 upgrade shouldn't be a problem at all, but someone else must help you cause i don't know a thing about a details of it (i'm a happy WM5 user) ;]
edit:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=249474 - lokiwiz app.
Thank you vey much for your help.
Do you know if a Tmobile sim card is necessary for the whole process cause I do not have one.

G3 or G4 is a chipset version. it plays a big role in flashing your phone, so read about how to determine which one you have, and what should/shouldn't you do to your MDA, it is IMPORTANT so be carefull.
As far as I remember, sim card is not required during unlocking process. (painfull mistake, i bought tmobile sim for 7 pounds just to learn I don't need it, and even worse, my girlfriend already had another one
