Hello,
I believe many of you are (or have been) having similar problems - I wonder if there's a solution for this?
The problem I have is that when the device comes back from sleep (that is, when I open it after not using it for a while) the screen lights up immediately, but the device is extremely unresponsive. Trying to click the Start menu (or anything else on the screen for that matter) will appear to do nothing at first - then when the device finally comes to its senses (10-30 seconds later) my clicks are "played back" at lightning speed. From then on the device is usable, but this delay is infuriating.
I have ROM 1.13.53 WWE (from Sep-23) with radio 1.03.01. My notifications database is small (15 entries) and I'm not running a lot of apps (I have PocketPlus installed).
Is anyone else having this problem? Is there a solution?
TIA
Are you using any Themes? Try switching back to the standard wm5 theme. My m5000 gets very glacier-like as soon as I try any other theme.
Try this.
Thanks for the replies!
I'm using the default theme. As for this Uni-Turbo thing, what does it do? Just so I know before I install it?
it will speed u your processor, after istall u will find the changing botton on Start/Settings/System/Power/Processor it works but using more power.
Im using this, it works Great ... i think its free, but
It essentially places a control panel file in \Windows which 'replaces' the power control panel item. The replacement is from another device, which has a Turbo Mode. So this gives you the ability to activate the turbo mode on your Universal. I've tried it - its safe to use and removing it returns things back to normal.
Try it and see if anything improves. I can guarantee though, that you'll see far more improvement by hard resetting (use Sprite Backup's free beta to backup emails, contacts, messages, etc).

If you have some Today plugins installed on your device it might slow down the response after turning it on.
For example:
I've got the Resco Explorer installed with it's Today plugin, and my device comes back with the plugin displayed in 15 seconds after opening it.
But when I turn off displaying Resco Today plugin it comes back immediately, after opening... (0,5 secs)
HoPe
My Uni works very well, but then I use it for next to nothing, but I keep memory clean with VJOkButt and stay away from memory resident stuff.
Although not exactly for this question, installing the extended rom dialler had a dramatic impact on speed on mine. If you don't need the pretty buttons, I highly recommend the stock MS Dialler.

Start button slowdown on first use
On the issue where the start button doesn't seem to do anything for a while after a suspend or soft reset:
The reason is that an application is listed in the Start Menu which resides on the SD card. What happens is that the Start menu tries to load the icon of the application from the SD card, which first has to wake up, causing the slowdown.
Same thing happens when you're browsing through the Programs folders (Start -> Programs), and there is a pause while loading the application shortcuts.
It's quite annoying, and I think it may be related to one or other registry hack.
Use SmallMenu!

is there any way to uninstall the extended rom dialer? it's neither listed in the list of installed programs (in SKTools) nor in \Windows\AppMgr :/
thanks, fuf.

BeyondTheTech has an interesting article somewhere on Skype with this issue.
I just use SmallMenu, the normal StartMenu is useless to me.
Uninstalling the extended rom - i don't think so. You can probably manually delete the files it installs, but it'd be incredibly tedious and perhaps inaccurate/unstable. Best is to hard reset and setup again, but that's also tedious.

So how come then I have the same thing when browsing anything for the first time after the soft reset even when I have NOTHING installed on the SD card?

If you are using SPB Pocket Plus or any other similar software and allowing the SD card indicator on your today screen just remove it and you will realize the difference.
Also avoid to use any battery indicator on today screen as it will slow the device as well.
My last advice to you if you are using SPB Pocket plus is to un-install it and use any other similar program like Resco today plugins.... this will also speed up your device becuase the available version of SPB pocket plus is not completely compatible with WM5.
Regards,
I am using SPB PP (beta release) and its fast, but I didnt have a real problem with the earlier releases. I also use SPB diary and SPB Weather, and still no real problem, slightly sluggish but not intolerable.
My device wakes up perfectly immediately every time, and rings at the beginning of the second ring.
1. Remove SD card and battery monitors
2. Disable some of the additional SPB plug ins that you dont need like safe mode boot, PIE plug ins, battery monitor etc
3. Remove the antivirus software
4. Disable error reporting
5. Disable auto receive beams
6. Try disabling SPB altogether and see if it is still sluggish and unresponsive
7. Dont have anything on SPB or other that is immediately directed to the SD card as the SD card takes longer to recognise on wake up
8. Consider not switching the device off. I never turn it off, at all, wind down screen brightness, disable auto off, but auto off the screen only, close the clam shell switches off the screen but doesnt switch off the machine. the screen sucks the battery, not the processor.
Let me know if you have had any luck with this.
Perhaps you could also:
1. Ensure you have the latest rom from the website
2. Dont allow the extended rom to install (hard reset, and press reset when it says customising device), then use total commander to go to the extended rom and selectively install the items you need, this forum is full of information for this.

I just tried it and I have to admit I already like smallmenu. One question please: How do I customize smallmenu?
It seems to me it is locked at the following list:
Today
Programs
Favorites
Commonly Used Programs
Settings
Suspend
SmallMenu
I reset my device before any of the crap from Ext.Rom could install. I now have a speeeeeedy device. Oh, i am using an i-mate Jasjar btw.

I disagree, try to power off the device every time you close the clam and power it on when you open it and you will see how much the battery life will improve. It really makes the difference, I just can't be bothered and am too lazy to do it  I charge it every night anyway.
If you're looking to get rid of the menu bar at the bottom of the Today Screen, read on. This is not a new tip, but might save you time, as there's a lot of different versions of these programs flying around. Only the one below works on WM6 / HTC Touch.
I personally find that the Menu Bars at the bottom of the Today Screen really spoil the look of the HTC Touch's sleek black/grey theme. Besides, the Comm Manager and Contacts are both accessible via the spinning cube (or the camera button if you install Double Launcher) so there's no need to have on the Today Screen, you may as well get more space for plugins, or just to keep everything looking neat and tidy. See screenshot below!
Here's how to banish them forever (?!) :
1. Download ToggleTodayIIAlpha from this link:
http://www.vijay555.com/vj/releases/vjtoggletodayii/vjtoggletodayiialpha.exe
2. Copy it to your \Windows\Startup directory. (or somewhere else and paste a shortcut instead)
3. Go into the registry and edit this key:
HKLM/Software/Vijay555/VJTodayToggle
Change these keys:
Softkeysize = 1
StartSize = 26
TrayVisible = 1
That's it! I've had no massive problems with this so far, although I haven't been testing it for too long. I'd be interested to hear how people get on in terms of stability/bugs. You WILL get problems if you try to use any of the older VJTodayToggle programs in the thread on this forum:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=243211
(SIP keyboard staying on, SIP moving to the top of the screen, menu titles disappearing but not the background, etc.)
...in fact, that's precisely why I'm sharing this info with you, as this thread is 39 pages long and it's only towards the end that things become totally clear! I'll post again if there's any unexpected side-effects, I'm currently minimising BatteryStatus and I don't know whether this will
Good luck!
Carlos
NOTES / ADVANCED
=======================
A: If you want to make your screen even neater AND still overclock your Touch, then, in step 3 above, you can make TrayVisible=0 then you can minimise the BatteryStatus plugin and it won't show up on your today screen. (right click on batterystatus icon, choose 'show rows -> minimise') I haven't tested this properly yet.
B: If you want to explore hiding the Start Menu, feel free, it looks superb when you first do it, but then I have found that the HTC biotouch (spinning cube) automatically re-instates the start menu bar when it's deactivated each time.
C: Please note, this program ( tt2.exe) DOES NOT TOGGLE, even though it's called that! Again, it's a 39 page thread, I warned you...
D: You can also run TT2.exe with a -config option to avoid editing the registry, but this would actually make the above even more long-winded to explain to any n00bs.
E: A nice new HTC wallpaper is doing the rounds without the logo. (As you can see from my screenshot, it's mis-positioned with the extra screen space) See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=319830
F: Vijay555 has been meaning to release a new (non-alpha) version of the software for some time, but sounds pretty busy. He seems like an all-round splendid guy though and I'd like to thank him for this software and his continued postings/programming.
I have the HTC X7500 WM6 and I've been desperate to make it works.
I've been trying other version from the 40 pages thread, so I'll try this one and I will post result.

Good luck! The honest truth is that after I'd posted this, I discovered a couple of bugs that appeared in soak testing. I gave up in the end - it worked 90% but I would still occasionally get conflict, e.g. the SIP keyboard would appear at the top of the screen sometimes and only a soft reset would put it back where it was meant to be!

Yep I confirm that, SIP keyboard is there, and sometimes as well softkeys stay there after softreset.
Well actually for me it's even worse, it's hiding the system tray (the bar just above the softkeys bar) where we can add shortcuts icons and keep the softkeys bar enabled..
Im disappointed but thks for vijay555 for all the efforts
Perfect... without HTC Logo is even better...
Thanks Carlos,
I've just installed and its working fine. With the clean background from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=319830 looks even better.

See my original post, have you tried setting TrayVisible=1 in the registry, this should show the system tray.
I followed exactly what u posted, it displayed it correctly the first time, then after soft reset it was displaying only the softkeys bar and hiding the system tray bar
Thks anyway
How does this look on screens BESIDES the today screen? I have used other programs on different WM phones in the past and although the bottom bar disappears on the today screen, it is still on other screens.
Also, can you use the bottom of the screen or is it just dead space? Some of us have moved the HTC Home Plug to the bottom of the page and if it is just dead space, it is going to look bad....

The menu bar is visible on other screens, this behaviour is by design. I cannot see why anybody would want it invisible on other screens, as you normally need those softkeys for menus in most programs!
As far as I know you can use the bottom of the screen, it is not dead space. But why not try it out - it's unlikely to do any harm. You can always delete it from your startup directory to uninstall if you don't want it.

Well it works well so far.....(Not my screen, Neo's screen @ HoFo)
I can't remember if the TrayVisible setting even works - I think it was something I was intending to build in, but never got around to it.
Apologies... I'm kinda programming again, had lots going on, so never finished the app. Sorry for you guys having to use my unfinished piece of cr*p. I'll make it work properly one day!

How did you "move" the HTC Home plugin to the bottom part of the Today-screen without any plugin above it? I searched all over the forums, but I cannot find the answer to this question

Use the HTC Home customizer to "unlock" it. Then you can move it around like normal.
However, it doesn't redraw correctly on the right side if you unlock it, and a scrollbar comes and goes.
i have a other solution!! PCM shrink installe it and your bar remove it s very easier! For become to the original config juste delete the programmz!!
won't stick
Hi..very nice and easy Zip File..just one problem: the toggle won't stick after a soft reset = one has to go into File Explorer..double click the Toggle File and only than the screen is "clean" again.
Any way to make the toggle "stick"?
I have not this problem! I install the cab i going on the explorer and today shrink and clik on after i reboot my pda ans the bar not appear ... You can try put a abbreviated of today skrink in WINdows/started for star the application automatic on windows sartup
the result of the appl:
I have this running at startup on my Tilt, works with screen rotations and everything! And the hard keys are still mapped to calendar and contacts for quick access, awesome.
Many thanks, couldn't stand those useless soft keys before.

Given that I believe the hardware as far as the touchscreen itself goes, are there any plans to try and migrate the TouchFlo / TouchFlo II ROM or application layer over so it'll work with the Mogul?
I love the Touch Flo's inteface, but there's no way I would ever give up my full keyboard.
You can find the touchflo application at this post
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334965&highlight=pcm+keyboard
Make sure to download a4, this is the most recent release. Also, read the entire first post before installation. I have the HTC 6800 (mogul) from sprint and I successfully installed this software this morning.
I have also installed A4 on my mogul. It is running great! I modified the config file a tiny to give a longer delay and to add SSContact.
Where is my cube?!!!
I can get the touch scrolling to work but still cannot figure out the cube. I can access the audio manager and the home screen (with tabs) but do not see any of the other full screen touch menus or animations.
I have installed the following files:
FTouchFlo_a4.CAB
HomePlugin WM6.cab
HTC_Audio_Manager.cab
HTC_Audio_Manager_Today_Plugin.cab
JT ButtonFlo.cab
Touch Flo (Alpha).cab
Touch Settings v1.22.CAB
I changed the registry key so that audio manager is the music player and also deleted the bio.lnk and mediahub.lnk from the windows/startup. I even went as far as to copy .brn files to make sure they were there. Even Touch settings is working fine.. BUT any time I slide LR or click the button I get the stupid black screen. (WTF, it is killing me!)
Has anyone figured this out on Sprint Mogul???
I didn't try too hard on the cube because I couldn't get the gestures to work. Maybe this is something that will be improved in later versions.

Well this Flash version of the Touchflo 3D Cube it seems to work really well so far on my mogul, like I said it's not the real cube but it's really neat just the same.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=328010&highlight=ByKa+Cube+Launcher
Yeah, Byka's Flash version is cool, but it uses lots of system resources and just isn't quite the same.
Someone having the black screen issue has to have found a fix by now?
I've tried the BYKA cube but it jsut looks tacky. It works great but I guess I just have a problem with the icons and the background. Slither is working on a cub which looks exaclty like the TOUCHCUBe but it still has a way, although he's working very diligently. I would love to see the original cube, hopefully some cab extracted in combination with the touchfloa4. That would be ideal.
I tried it yesterday and was not impressed. So I installed SPB Pocketplus V.4 which also has "touch" features and works much better to be honest...
this is from my post in: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=333513

I got this working on my mogul (close to barebones w/o ext_rom) seemingly perfectly... I did it on a fresh hard hard reset because of some conflicting software and my remove programs list being blank (this is not related to anything with touchflo btw... so don't worry)... I mapped touchflo.exe (on Ftouchflo) to left-right(to make cube both initialize and rotate with my finger dragging left right) and it works like a charm! I also mapped up-down to efrost's minimize program(efrostminimize.exe) that I got from Slither's cube, this brings me back to the Today screen. Not sure what the "ns.exe" is for in your config files but it seems to be working fine for me so far following the instructions. I'm thinking with the mogul black screens there must be a conflicting software involved.
I only have:
HTC plugins + Audio/Comm Manager
Total Commander
TCPMP+FlashVideo
PHM_Reg
Memmaid
Palm Msging
Oxios
Slide 2 Unlock 2 0.53
Ftouchflo alpha 4
Adobe Flashlite 2.1
Edit: Be careful how fast you retry using finger swipes upon the initial initialization (from closed) as it will run two instances if the touchflo did not fully initialize yet. (they both load though... phew* still no black screen)
Edit 2: Remember, if you map left-right and use Slide 2 Unlock 2(S2U2), to exclude s2u2.exe in the Ftouchflo config.
will post if black screen comes up in the future
I w as going to try this after midterms, how is it working? Is it pretty awesome? Is it worth it? does it bogg down your system? Are you afraid of installing other apps for fear of it "blacking out"? I'm very interested in the cube but it seems out of reach right now because of the bugs.

it works fine... no real big load on system resources (it was designed for a slower processor actually). No, I'm not really afraid of installing other programs. I was just stating that it's obvious that all those people complaining about black screens have something that conflicts with the cube somehow (or they didn't install according to instructions). Most likely something that runs in the background...
wandrerx, how do you actually get the cube? What application does it get installed with?
Can you send links to the exact apps you are running that are minimum requirements for this to work?
The original detailed instructions (by mikewtw) and files are in: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=333513
This is really just a summary of instructions and issues since it's getting messy there...
You need all the files from the original instructions:
TouchFlo.zip
AL_xx_Touch.zip
Touch Settings v1.22.CAB
Installation:
Prereq (To be installed first...):
HTC Home Plugin - I used the one from here... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=319308
HTC Audio Mgr - I got it from the touchflo.zip
HTC Audio Plugin - I got it from the touchflo.zip
Installation Process
1)Install "Touch Flo (Alpha).cab"
2)Install "JT Buttonflo.cab" (This is needed because it causes a script to run at startup which makes it actually work)
3)Install "Touch Settings v1.22.cab"
4)Delete "Mediahubmini.lnk" from "\windows\startup"
5)Unzip all of the files from "AL_xx_Touch.zip" to "\touch" (this step may not be needed but it was mentioned in the original post and I did it anyways)
6)Copy those "AL_xx_Touch.zip" files into "\windows"
7)Now might be a good time for a soft reset
8)Run "Touch Settings" from programs once but do not touch anything just yet... click on save option at the bottom" (this step apparently saves the icons you just installed so they'll appear... I think)
9)Soft reset
Touchflo is now installed you can either:
A) Map it to a button thus making it buttonflo
B) Install Ftouchflo Alpha 4 and use the touch screen to launch and rotate left to right (one way only currently)
If you decide to use Ftouchflo Alpha 4 I've enclosed:
"FTouchfloConfig.txt" - To be copied into "\Program Files\Ftouchflo_a4"...this also makes it compatible with s2u2
"efrostminimize.exe" (by efrost duh!) - To be copied into "\windows"
FTouchflo usage:
Using my config you can bring up the cube by swiping down-to-up (like the real one) or you can do the same going left to right. You can also minimize the cube by swiping up-to-down(via efrostminimize.exe)
Notes:
1)Upon initial run from either being closed or soft reset, try not to swipe it activated too much otherwise it will open twice. Once started swipe all you want. Of course you could just activate touchflo another way first.
2)Installing Touchflo alpha takes away HTC Home contacts
3)This does not seem to be a killable app via "memory"
4)I'm trying to figure out whether I can make some script to make it run smoother
5)Audio Mngr seems to be the only resource killer as it also loads into the cube
5)Yes it only goes one direction, this was a modified touchflo designed to work with buttons. As I said, this is the one we have to use till a cooked rom with the cube comes out.
6)This does not run on initial boot, you've got to either run it from Ftouchflo or "touch flo" in programs
7)If you run "Touch flo" without button mapped or "Ftouchflo"(configured for it) it will stay on the first screen
8)Can also be minimized by using the "red hangup button" (buttonflo-method as opposed to using my config for Ftouchflo)
9)Using HTC Home Plugin Customizer requires a soft-reset because it disables the Home Plugin temporarily
7)Icons not installed correctly is one very big cause of black screen
8)Conflicting programs may also be a reason for black screen as I did this all on a hard reset
Ftouchflo Alpha4

if you want a cube, I highly recommend slithers cube.

I have been using both of these programs and they work together flawlessly on the Mogul
HTC HOME vs. the Cube
For anyone who has tried both.
I am currently running the HTC Home on mine and it works very well. Power consumption is normal. Good quick response. No complaints overall.
However, I am somewhat intrigued by the Cube and have been contemplating trying it out.
How is the CPU/Power consumption. Responsiveness. Stability? Thanks for your thoughts in advance.
Michael
Stability
I have tried both the Home plugin and the cube. If youuse the home plugin, do a search for the six tab "fixed" kaiser plugin. Fixes some memory leaks and has more functionality. The Cube here is very unstable and not too quick. I had to hard reset to get it to work, and it will not work with some other apps installed. For me, it would not work with SPB Pocket Plus. I would recommend getting the cube Slither has in development. It runs on flash, is quick, and does not seem to have compatibility issues.
Hey guys,
I installed Touchflo on my Xperia. Works very well! But i have a problem.
The right key keeps remapping it's self back to "Today" after i start Touchflo.
I want this button to turn the display arround, but everytime i set it up, it remapps itself again after starting Touchflo.
I there a solution for this problem?
settings -> button -> map as whatever you want
what do you mean with "turn the display arround"? landscape?
In short, no solution if you have TF3D installed.
Install AWBPlus.
@guap
yes, i mean landscape.
@paroxsym
are your sure? is this a known problem?
You could start TouchFlo via MortScript.
Last lines should be
Sleep(10000)
RegWriteDWord("HKLM","Software\Microsoft\Shell\Keys\40C3","Flags",14)
and the Button gets remapped. I've got this in my Autostart folder.
Sounds complicated ^^
I hope this problem will be fixed in the coming Manila 2 landscape.
you gotta search for hd-tweak...it´s somwhere in the blackstone forum...i got it on my xperia, and it just works find.
softreset included
there´s the link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=452505
In the Deveopment/Hacking forum, you can find a fix from me which works without further tweaking tools
I hope the simple trick will be used by the rom cooks in further ROMs, at least Hammamed told me he will use it
Hi,
Only had my HD2 for a couple of days having come from iphone and have a couple of gripes with it. Maybe it's just me though as never had a windows phone before.
When using opera internet browser you have to zoom in quite a bit to press links, which I find a little annoying. I've tried skyfire which is much better, but you can't use pinch/zoom. Is there a browser that has the best of both worlds?
Is there a quick way to turn bluetooth on/off without having to go into settings?
Is there a quick link to profiles? I know if you hold the end call button you can select between vibrate or ringer, but not silent. I must admit, this is one thing I liked about the iphone, there was a simple switch to change from silent/ringer without having to turn the phone on and press buttons.
When making/receiving calls sometimes the screen comes back on and my ear presses other functions, or disconnects the call. Has there not been a fix for this issue yet?
The call quality isn't great, sometimes the caller distorts on certain words/letters
And finally, is there any way to change the vibrate? Can it be set to 'pulse' rather than just a continous vibration. Can it be set just to give one or 2 pulses when receiving a sms/mms message, rather than vibrating for the full length of the message alert? (I've personalised mine and goes on for about 10 seconds)
I think the phone is great, and these niggles aren't the most major of things (accept the screen turning back on during calls) but it would make the phone more of a pleasure to use.
Cheers
There are fixes or programs for most of your niggles, but they may not integrate with the HTC Sense interface! That's one downside of such a deeply coded front end, and one reason why I personally have stopped using it!
There is a file available which can allow links in Opera to be clicked when zoomed out- sorry, but I don't have time to link to it at present!
For profile and radio (BT/WiFi/Phone) switching, I'd recommend SBSH Phoneweaver . OK, it costs $15 but you can set any number of profiles with switching based on time, location, busy status etc, or manually. The pop-up menu also has a set of switches for the various radios. It can be launched via one of the 3 Program buttons on the front page of Sense, or via a small icon in the Taskbar. I'm, not sure if it can have the vibrate times defined or not!

Thanks for your response. What are you referring to when you say radios? Please forgive my ignorance, I'm still learning
You say that you have stopped using the HTC sense interface so what do you use instead?
Just having a look at the phoneweaver, can this be used with the sense interface? Does it overide the phone settings?
Radios = WiFi, Bluetooth and Phone Radio. These are the things you see in the Comm Manager with the little green On/Off sliders
I'm now using a 'Light' custom ROm without the HTC Sense stuff. I prefer to use a plain 'Home Screen' (which you can achieve by going into Settings/Home (or Today) and selecting the Items tab. From there you can turn on or off any of the Today items or Sense itself.
A lot of the programs I use have their own Today screen plug-ins which suits me fine- Resco Contact Manager, Elecont Weather and Chronos clock/alarms, plus I use a Launcher program called Launchpad by Panoramic Software that is opened by tapping the top left of the screen; this has 40 definable 'Favourites' links plus a full set of Programs/Settings links.
Back to work now!

It can take over all the phone settings and can be manual or scheduled, plus some other useful switching options. You can try it free for 15 days!

Thanks for that thread, the trouble is I'm not a real computer/phone buff (yet) and so a lot of it goes right over my head. I don't even know what registry's are, and wy you need to edit them???
Ok, the concept of registry is quite simple. I'll put in a way so anyone can understand. Its a repository of stored key/value pairs.
Imagine a folder like structure, when you open a folder you will find a series of keys which, when opened, reveal the value.
Every key/folder is used by the OS or by some application. Its where all the back door settings are stored. So if you wanna make an app or the OS behave in a way you need to change the settings.
Using the registry is easy, but you have to make the first step... so what are you waiting?

Can I bugger up the phone if I don't know what I'm doing?
You can always make a backup of the registry you are changing. In resco registry editor tap and hold and press export. If the changes you made are not good, go to the folder where you exported the backup and open it. It will automatically imported and problem solved. But if you follow the instructions you won't have any problems, just don't change the registry for something you don't know or never seen in any tip/suggestion.
You could affect stuff if you dont do it right... but if you follow the instructions carefully without any typing errors, you will be fine...
Use this to Turn off BT easily.... it also does a lot of other stuff... basically, your bottom left softkey will become an "action" button... prssing that will bring up the screen shown in the screenshots. Works really well for me... also give you soft reset options without opening the back cover or powering off
