Just taken a long hard look at the HTC website, where as other threads have noted, the X7501 has been announced.
http://www.htc.com/product/03-product_x7501.htm
Having gone through the 2 spec's the only difference I can find is WM6. My worry (being an owner of an Ameo) was that they'd spotted something in the hardware and had to release a new spec! This doesn't seem to be the case.
It gives even more hope that WM6 for the Athena is a matter of weeks away...
Difference is Front Camera
It seems the front camera is missing from the 7501 ("Second camera: VGA CMOS imaging sensor")

If you have read my post, you should know this by now, the only different in 7500 and 7501 is the OS , and the front camera. HTC will not lunch the WM6 update for 7500. Not sure about Ameo, but DOPOD 100% will lunch the WM6 update for DOPOD U1000. But it's no where soon, it will be in summer.
As a U1000 owner I am much relieved. Thanks for this confirmation. I look forward to receiving WM6 update in summer even if I have to pay for it.
Say what? I just spent a lot of money on the Ameo, beleiving it WAS wm2006, because all the hype was the Athena/Advantage/Whatever would be one of the first to have it.
Now the T-Mobile Ameo HAS a front camera, does that mean no 2006 for us?
Would flashing the wrong rom mean a dead device or a device where the front cam stops working, or even a fully working device with 2006?
T-Mobile better not shaft us on 2006.
I had just assumed the 2005 in the spec was either an error or due to delays in 2006 it would ship 2005 and have an update shortly after, but from what your saying there is no upgrade for the version with front cam? that sounds mad.
There will be an official WM6 ROM. I would say 2-3 months (that's a guess btw, I don't know any official date).

nono, that is not what i am saying, the no front camera version is HTC X7501 (WM6). I am not quiet sure why they took out the front camera, but certainly they will not release wm6 update for x7500 (otherwise no one will buy x7501).
For T-mobile, there is only one version, which is Ameo, since i don't have contact with T-mobile, i can't tell you whether they will release WM6 update for Ameo or not, it's really up to them. When Ameo lunch, it clearly say it's WM5, therefore they really have no responsibility to release WM6 Update. It's purely a benefit for their customer. So let's hope they will do so.
As for DOPOD, there is also only one version, DOPOD U1000, and since DOPOD is always quite strong on software development and frequent ROM update, it make sense that they will release the WM6 update.

What company are you talking about? T-mobile? DOPOD? or HTC? Is that confirm or not?
btw, a small good news for T-mobile Ameo owner, i went to the 3GSM, and i kind of remember T-mobile told me they will release WM6 update, but just can't remember is it for Ameo or not.

What is your source for No Update for HTC 7500? It is your contact at HTC? I am being told that Yes, HTC will allow upgrade for HTC 7500, as who would buy HTC 7500, if three month's later a 7501 with WM6 is planning to be released.Everyone would just wait for 7501...
At least that is what is being quoted on several WM internet sites, with quotes from HTC management. Even distributors are saying that 7500 will be able to upgrade. But then again, I guess you could put any anthena wm6 rom on any anthena device.
Just curious as to why some say their HTC source says yes and some say No...

Firstly i must say don't trust those website who says things without confirmation. I only post facts here, not assumption. It's not hard to assume that WM6 update will be available since they already announce the WM6 version of Advantage. Of course you can simply extract the Rom from X7501 to install on your X7500. But that is not what we call Official Update.
Second thing is HTC has never produce a Rom Update what so ever in the past, and it's very unlikely they will change as well. I have not been told there isn't WM6 update for X7500, but here is the thinking, if HTC has never produce update in the past, will they do it for x7500? If WM6 update is available for X7500, then what's the point of X7501? This is their way to make money, by lunching the same device (almost) with different OS.
Anyway, i once say again, 100% sure DOPOD will have WM6 Update, don't know about T-mobile, unlikely HTC will lunch WM6 update.
After all, if you want a black Advantage with WM6, wait for X7501 which is due out in summer.
I always thought that X7501 was geared towards US market and did not have tom tom installed. X7500 is EU specific release and as a seperate market releasing an update for WM5 for this device would not impact too much on US market..

Not precisely. The X7501 is meant for U.S. market and will be sold by Amazon.com. The X7500 is not intended for U.S. market, though, will be available for purchase as an import unlocked phone like so many previous HTC branded phones. I would expect the X7500 to receive a WM6 update, since the MAJORITY of buyers will should not be U.S. buyers, and the X7501 would not be locally available anyway. Just my thoughts.

if you go to HTC US website, you will find that X7500 will be available locally in US. And also, don't miss this important fact that HTC has never release any update for their device, and it's unlikely they will do so for x7500.
Too bad my contact in HTC can not confirm this.....

Yes, I have gone to the American website, and under new products, the only Athena metioned is the X7501. The Avantage page only lists the X7501, as well. Can you link us to the page that shows where the X7500 will be distributed by HTC, themselves (in the U.S.) as the non american website shows in what countries (except US) where the products are sold? My understanding is that the X7501 will be the first HTC branded (not rebranded) phone marketed in the U.S. Feel free to corect me if I'm wrong on that one. Also this is why the X7500 will have a front facing camera, and the X7501 may not. There is no video conferencing infastructure by the cell companies (that I know of) in the U.S. in place as of yet.
I'm just not sure you're correct on this one. The X7500 is supposed to be European market, though as stated earlier, will most definitely be sold in the U.S. by the same companies that have always sold European market HTC phones here, like Mobileplanet, Mobilecityonline, dyamisim, etc...
Oh, and HTC should be releasing an updated ROM for the 8525 (hermes) this month or next (this one won't have WM6 though). Maybe thats not what you meant, though, since you're already aware of updated ROMs for the U1000, and possibly Ameo.
The reason no one liked to give updated OS's is because when WM5 appeared it really needed NAND based ROM. Though it could be used on a NOR based ROM device, the memory blocks had to be constantly arranged to keep from running out of memory, and it ate nearly 100% CPU about 50% of the time. Performance was terrible on the IPAQ HX4700 because of this, as I performed this upgrade when they released a WM5 upgrade for $50 (I'm not sure if anyone else ever offered one). WM6 is realy a SMALL upgrade in terms of an OS from WM5 and obviously won't need any new hardware. I'm using WM6 on my 8525, and other than a few new services, it is essentially the same as WM5 in day to day use. It does, however, have a much better remote terminal feature than WM5.
With the front camera being the difference, its unlikely, HTC won't release a ROM with WM6 on it for their $1500 device, especially since they will have one for the X7501, which would require next to no tweaking of the ROM to release for the X7500. I guess we can discuss it till the cows come home, so I suppose only time will tell. Anyway, I'm not going to wait for the X7501, and have already preordered one from Mobilecityonline. Hopefully it will be released in the next few weeks (I hope, I hope, I hope....)

I think some of your understanding might be correct, looks like i have got some info mix up. Yes when i say 7500 is available for US, i meant through company like mobileplanet. And i was looking at the wrong site as well, here is where both machine appear: http://www.htc.com/product/03-products.htm .
Once again, although i have contact in HTC, they can not tell me for sure whether they will release WM6 Update for x7500. I wasn't wrong that HTC has never produce and ROM Update before, the update you are getting for 8525 isn't produce by HTC. Advantage isn't the first phone branded only by HTC, there are others already, and they haven't receive any update what so ever yet.
I guess you are right, times will tell, (in summer). And it really isn't that much a big deal since DOPOD is for sure to have WM6, even X7500 don't have wm6 update, they can still flash the DOPOD rom.
Thanks for the link. I think its funny how they list under 'The following products are currently available from HTC'
HTC Shift
HTC Advantage x7500
HTC Advantage x7501
I wish!!!
In any case, I do look forward to hearing what you find out from your contact from HTC in the future. Thanks for all the info contributed.

Hey everyone,
I've decided to start a post on this cuz i haven't been about to find much on this recently released phone from telus (a canadian carrier). I currently have an HTC TyTN. However, the touchscreen is completely dead. Since this phone isn't sold by any canadian carriers, it's virtually impossible to get it repaired let alone replaced.
I've recently come across the Telus HTC P4000 which was officially launced by telus in april. I noticed the specs are very similar to that of the TyTN except for the following:
-A CDMA phone without a sim card slot.
-256 mb rom vs 128 mb rom
-64 mb sdram vs 64 mb ram? (**i dunno if the hermes ram is SD)
-a QUALCOMM MSM7500, 384 MHz CPU vs a Samsung 400 MHz CPU.
I'm thinking of selling my X01HT and signing up with telus and grabbing that phone. I could really use some feedback on this idea from my fellow Hermes owners. And could use some help measuring the pros and cons.
So far the major CON of going to this phone would be that it's slightly slower and looks to have ZERO upgradability in terms of OS, RADIO, or any type of rom flashing. Meaning no sweet WM6 upgrades from custel or jasjamming or any of the other cool chefs...
Here are some links:
http://www.telusmobility.com/content/clientcare/pcs_east/guides/htc_p4000/htc_p4000.pdf
-user manual (specs can be found here as well)
http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2007/04/17/the-htc-p4000-for-telus-in-the-flesh/
-engadgetmobile article on this phone
Any feedback or thoughts would be great. Thanks guys...
I din't know how much money you want to spend, but expansys do a good range of phones - including the dopod 838 pro (http://www.expansys.ca/)
I think most of these are phone only, without contract etc but I'm sure you can shop around for something with a contract.
Personally for my style of useage I'd spend out on one of the Hermes varieties.
You could also try ebay - maybe pick up a bargain 8525 or an old hermes to repair yours with.
Good luck
I just bought 2 HTC P4000 for some of our work phones. One has been activated so far, and it is working great. It is allot slimmer than the PPC-6700, which I had last year. I am a newbie when it comes to upgrading these things or doing hacks etc, but I am quite happy with the phone so far. If you have any specific questions please feel free to ask me and I will try to answer them for you.
thanks guys,
I passed by a telus store today to check it out. The lady was nice enough to take a brand new phone out of its box and run it for me. I got to play around with it for a while and here are my impressions which are mostly positive:
-the slid out keyboard seems to have some kind of power assist feature (not exactly but you know what i mean, think hiptop) which makes it pretty cool and easier to slid out as oppose to having to manually push up the screen till you hear it lock into place (X01HT)
-The HTC P4000 is virtually the same size except just as twelveca stated, it is slightly thinner.
-same white default htc bootscreen + a telus logo screen and wm5 setup. I doubt the possibility of any kind of upgrade unless there are some crazy chefs out there that get their hands on this phone.
-has FN and CAPS lights just like a computer keyboard!
-black keyboard, dark gray screen housing, and a bumpy pattern on the back for added grip.
-I checked out the device info screen and to my surprise, it said it has a !400! MHz CPU as oppose to the 384 MHz stated in the specs. 64 MB RAM, 256 MB Onboard Flash memory confirmed.
-From the few minutes playing with it, it seems to perform at the same level (if not better) as the HERMES.
-Doesn't show any signs of screen alignment problems.
-EVDO High speed wireless capable.
There ya have it, looks like i'm leaning towards buying it. Just have to get over the idea that i won't be able to upgrade roms (for now at least) or use sim cards...But other than that, it seems like a great phone.
Oh i just found a link to a "Complete" review of the P4000 on HF
http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1153541
It includes points i forgot to mention as well as ones i didn't even know of...
Here are some of them (note these are compared to the ut starcom 6700):
"
-dual core processor??
- REV A compatible (with software upgrade which Telus has officially announce they will do)
-more buttons on face and sides
-better one-handedoperation
-bigger battery
-better battery life
-better brighter screen
-better 2mp camera with improved software and settings
-AKU 3.3 which brings with it A2DP among other things
"
P4000
Just recently picked one of these up and have had a couple of days to play with it. I upgraded from an Imate PPC (original 2003 edition) and could not be happier.
This is a rock solid PPC, only wish my GPS hardware was compatable, sigh.
I was a little unsure of Telus but after my fiascos with Rogers, i dont expect them to give me half the grief.
cool, i'll be picking one up probably some time next week...just gotta figure out how i'm gunna cancel my plan with fido and transfer the number over...
...maybe we can start a new forum for this phone when more people have it...
Who that knows as to unlock Telus or P4000 ?
HTC TYTN
ji1386, how much do you want for your broken TYTN?
TYTN
ji1386, if you want to sell your broken TYTN, I could use it for parts if unable to fix it. Send me a PM with your offer. Thanks
I have this phone basically since it came out from Telus, and I must say I am quite enjoyikng it. Best Pocket PC phone out, IMO.
This phone is upgradeable to Windows Mobile 6.....however, there is no confirmed release date on when this will be. Also, checking the HTC site will most likely get you nowhere as Telus will need to configure this upgrade to have Telus aspects on there, for instance, The Telsus bootscreen, the today themes, etc.
GPS in HTC P4000
The GPS in this phone someone post what u gotta do to get GPS working on this phone in Stand Alone GPS Mode with No A-GPS.
Hi,
I was looking for a winmo phone to be updated on the stock quotes. I shortlisted to touch2. But in India, there is a special version named T3320. And this one is cheaper. The spec sheet shows it doesn't have 3G. But the price difference is too high, are there any other differences?
http://www.htc.com/in/product/touch2/specification.html (Click special version).
BTW, I need something like the stocks tab in HD2 on the touch2. Is there any ROM that includes it? (the stocks tab doesn't need 3d accelerator i guess).
Have checked and could not see any other difference.....you must determine if you need 3G or not. Myself have in my communication manager a GSM/3G switch installed. In most cases GSM is good enough for me. Saves your battery also.
What is price difference actually? Perhaps is in accesoiries?
You can check with a local HTC dealer.
I am in India next week....and usually one of activities on my trips is to check out the various electronics markets.....always on the hunt for something new....
If I have the chance will check and report back.......
I think i saw somewhere it doesnt have GPS too, am i right? I think its connected with the laws there, i said i think i red about it somewhere.
well, GPS is indeed not mentioned at http://www.htc.com/in/product/touch2/spec_special.html
Here is the reply which i got from HTC Support
Dear Mr. Bhatia,
Thank you for contacting our Customer Support Center. We are dedicated to providing you with the best quality service and answering all of your questions and concerns.
To clarify your issue, you stated that: You want to the difference between the Touch 2 models,
In this regard we would like to intimate you that that you can check with link,http://www.htc.com/in/product/touch2/specification.html for T-3333 and check with the link http://www.htc.com/in/product/touch2/spec_special.html for Touch 2 t-3320 phone models.
HTC Touch2 phone(model no-T3320) is not a GPS enabled phone and also do not have 3G services while the other Touch 2 phone( model no- T3333) is GPS enabled and have 3 G functionality.
-----
These are the only two differences that they have told.
Regards,
Naveen
Thanks for the reply guys. My friend has finally bought that phone. I had checked it just once. I didn't quite like it.. this was the first htc device on my hand and I had expected a lot...
The price of the T3320 (the one my friend bought) was 12,500 INR.
Whereas the price of the T3333 (with 3g and gps) is 21,000 INR.
If the only difference between the two phones is 3g and gps, then I'm pretty sure that the touch2 T3333 is definitely not worth its price. It doesn't have autofocus and flash? If my friend had spent 21K and had found out that it doesn't have flash, he would've felt sorry for buying that phone. And touch sensitivity is not bad and not too good. It was okay.
But for 12K the T3230 is a bit worthy. If only it had a auto focus and flash and a 3d accelerator (hee hee hee I know this is too much) for running Touch Flo 3D or HD2 Sense UI.
