WIFI Stats on Today screen? - Mogul, XV6800 General

I'm looking for a today plug in to display current wifi stats such as SSID, signal strength, etc... any good ideas. I've googled my mind out and can't find anything that either works or will work on this phone.
Cheers and thanks

batterystatus!!

well i went and got battery status and it seems to have bricked my phone. By bricked I mean will not do anything. I soft rebooterd and it won't let me unlock my phone or sync up

You can DL an application that will show the wireless plugin on the Today screen, although you can edit the registry to enable it, I can't find the site with the edit.

rlToday could probably do this in conjunction with MortScript fairly easily...

XDA II Turning itself on

My XDA II keeps turning itself on, as if a program is waking it up.
I have checked that no programs are running using the option under Start/Settings/System/Memory.
Is there a way to see what processes are running in the background?
It does this even when stationary on my desk so it's not an accidental button press.
Has anyone else experienced this?
I'd appreciate any suggestions on tracking this down as it has a huge impact on battery life.
Thanks.
yup... mine was caused by Activesync. Make sure you have all the settings set to "Manual".
You can also download "Notification Check" by Scarybearsoftware. It will go through your PDA and look for extra events that don't belong there.
For some time I was getting a calander event for some birthday that didn't even exist!
yep, here too
I notice that it turn on after upgrading from 1.66 to 1.72
I'm not sure that could be for this...
I'll try "Notification Check"...from scarybear software
I had this and it was doing my head in! But using the check notifications did not help. I thought that possibly some of the games I installed to my SD card may have caused the problem.
So I copied everything off the card, and formatted it in the pocketpc (resco explorer), not from a card reader! Then I copied everything back and since then not a single un-intentional turn on.
Cheerio
Howard
Well, it didn't fix it for me either. I'm now testing with the Storage Card removed.
I'll post back if I find anyhting.
Another problem is when your GPRS connection activates itself!! soo annoying.
Taking the storage card out made no difference.
So far, however, with Flight Mode turned on it seems to be fine.
If this is the case then that would be really annoying.
What would be going on with Flight Mode Off to cause the XDA II to wake up?
With the radio off, GPRS is also off (as is BlueTooth and IR).
Is GPRS turning the device on?
Immediately after the device powers itself on, tap the signal meter and see if GPRS is connected.
Do you have a POP3 or IMAP4 Email account set to retreive messages at a regular interval?
Thanks, I'd already checked those.
The radio off was a red herring. It woke me up at 02:06 for no reason that I coulod find, with radio off.
I'd really like to find this before doing a hard reset so that I can fix it again if necessary and posting here will help others.
There's nothing worse than curing a problem and you don't know how.
My feeling is that it is being caused by some program you have loaded . . . or worst case, by a combination of programs. Unfortunately, if that's the case, the most likely way to track down the culprit will be to -
1. Hard-reset your device.
2. Run it for a time with no additional programs installed to make sure the problem is gone.
3. One at a time, install a single additional program and run it that way for a while to see if the problem occurs.
4. Only after proving that the problem does not occur with that configuration do you install another program.
5. If the problem occurs after installing a program - Hard-reset the device again and install only that program - then you know if the program itself is causing the problem or if it is a combination of programs.
This does not necessarily sound like FUN . . . but I can't see a better way to positively identify which program is causing your problem.
HTH
Thanks for that. That is my thinking too.
I'll do that when I've got a few hours to spare and I'll post the results, identifying the offending program.
ON and OFF
I have the same exact problem.
And I did found out that this is some of the program I install.
Example : SPB Pocket Plus (also other Today's plugin)
I did a hard reset, and try with out any program, then ad one program, then two etc..........until I found out that SPB was the one.
unfortunatly I love some of the plugin, but I have to get rid of it, if I don't want my battery to fall off in one day.

This is curious, as I have SPB Pocket Plus 2.0 installed, and I have never experienced an unintended/spontaneous turn-on (of my imate anyway ).
try turing battery monitor off in sprite backup
and also turn off the battery bar thing in spb2
that sorted my probs out
Turning on
I use Pocketplus and don't have a turning on problem, except when cradled, in which case it continuously tries to sync, even with everything set to manual.
Don't think Pocketplus is the cukprit.

BTIcon: Can we get it in JJ?

Anyone know how to get a bluetooth icon showing? I vaguelly recall a app written for WM2003 that provided this, in an attempt to override the built-in dissapearing icon issue. Can't find it tho...
Here you go...
Here is an app I took from my ba wm5 rom. I modified it for the jj. I think this is what you were looking for.
Awesome! Thanks a stack.
To everyone else, this puts BTIcon.exe in your windows diectory, with a link in your startup folder. Now u have an icon in your today tray, that u can click to turn BT on or off. Best feature is that you can see if BT is on at a glance, rather than watching the light for up to FIVE seconds to see if it flashes (I usually wacth for 10 seconds before I realise it's not on!)

Hi,
Here's a page out of my HTC Universal guide.

Michael
Mistad, could you please email/point me to where to find the BTIcon.exe cab file? I tried search the forum but failed to find it. Thanks and Happy New Year to all.
Hi,
Have a look at the PDF attachment in the post just above yours.
Regards
Michael
Thanks Michael. Got it working.
Thanks mistad for posting this BT icon app.. as well as giving me easy access to the Bluetooth settings, it seems to (touch wood) have cured the problem of Bluetooth switching itself off overnight!!
48hrs with no bluetooth connectivity loss.. a personal record for my Exec
Interested to see if it cures anybody elses BT problem..
Spoke a day or so to soon. BT stayed on for longer than it has ever done, but I just checked it and the "Turn on Bluetooth" box was unticked.
Which is interesting in itself, as the BT Icon did not show a red line through it, as far as it was concerned it was on. Once I opened the BT settings and ticked the box, my headset was on again.
To further test things, I went into BT Settings again, unticked the box, and the BT Icon correctly displayed with the line through it.
So somethings turning BT off in the background and not telling the rest of the system about it..
Anyone else having similar/different results ?
That was a great today plugin. Is there any same for WiFi? I miss the WiFi icon down in the right corner wich was a in 2003SE.

Yes, I have come to exactly the same conclusion. The only solution I have found thus far it to disable all power off features (including the on/off switch) and simply close the JJ lid or use 'screen toggle' in PDA mode. This means that battery life drops to approx 24 hours! The main problem is that if I leave it in PDA mode (screen facing out) and switch off the screen with 'screen toggle' (PocketPlus), then if I receive a SMS or missed call then the screen turns back on and runs the battery down much quicker. What would b really usefull is if there was an application that switched off the screen after a set period of inactivity.
Sorry guys for my OT, is there a way to add more application shortcuts in the tray ?
Thanks
wi-fi manager icon
does any1 know of a wifimanager icon, same as the bticon
thanks
Yes that's what I've been looking for. A WiFi Switch.exe to do the same thing Bluetooth Icon does... but for the WiFi. Is there something like that available?
What's the status of this post folks? Any new ideas or improvements?
Greetz ET
I've been trying to use XN Resource Editor toi change the BT off icon to being greyed out instead of the red slash and am running into problems. I got the icon changed, but the pda can't run the app when I replace the BTIcon.exe in the Windows directory...can anybody take a look at it and see what I've done?

ATT 8525 Trashed by US Open

Stupid me. In my excitement to keep up with the latest news on the US Open at Torrey Pines, I downloaded and installed the mobile leaderboard from usopen.com. It was advertised as working on WM6 devices, and the install went fine. When I started the program, it blinked the screen, turned off my wifi, then quit. The US Open program is called MYlbCab.cab and is available from the www.usopen.com website.
Apparently, this crappy piece of code messes around with connection settings. I immediately uninstalled the code, but now I cannot make any data connections -- not over cellular and not over wifi. In fact, my wifi will not even connect. You know in CommMgr when you hit the button to turn on wifi and the little wheel spins in the middle of the screen for a couple of seconds and then your wifi is up? Well, that doesn't happen anymore. When I try to start wifi, the button lights up, but then nothing else happens. I can still make/receive voice calls, but no data -- no browsing, no email.
I have done multiple soft resets with no effect. I turned the phone off, took out/replaced the battery and restarted. I have double checked my connection settings, and I think they are ok. I have double checked my wlan settings, and they look good. Are there some registry settings that this US Open junk could have messed up?
I have been searching the forums for things like "hermes wifi registry" and cannot find anything that helps. Would some kind soul please answer the following --
-- Point me to a post that details the proper registry settings for wifi.
-- Is there something else that could have gotten messed up and give me the same symptoms.
Thanks.

Disabling Wi-Fi

Hey,
I am having problems disabling my Wi-Fi. To be honest this isn't really a problem because my Wi-Fi is faster than mobile data transfers. Having said that though, obviously i would like the option to turn it off.
I havn't changed anything today on my phone so no software changes etc. Just on 'Comm Manager' on the Wi-Fi switch the whole line is light grayed out (and therefore i cant do anything)
Tried the standard turn off/turn on, soft reset, holding power button and terminate data connection, yet it is still grayed out and still on...
Any Ideas?
Sorry if there is already a similar post. I had a quick look and search but couldn't find anything to help. Please point in the right direction if there is.

Go to Settings, Menu, All Settings, Connection, Wi-fi. There's a checkbox there for turning on and off. You may find that doing this re-enables the one on the comm manager, otherwise, you're stuck with doing it that way (for some strange reason).
I'd also recommend the Wifi shortcut on the cab thread in the HD2 themes and apps forum. I have that in my quicklinks so I can quickly toggle the wifi on and off whenever I get home or to work or a friend's house etc..
Cheers bud.
Thats turned it off, but yeh as you suspected it doesn't enable me to do it in comm manager. Do you think you could give me a link to that quick link?

Yes mate - it's in my signature - the cabs link. You want the Touch X reset and wifi cab. It creates shortcuts in your start menu, and you can then add them as quicklinks if you want.
This may well be a stupid question, but is the device connected to PC with a USB cable just now?
hicks:
Nope, not currently... It was earlier though... If that is meant to make it so you cant toggle it, maybe it might be stuck like that from earlier... I will try plugging it back in later and see if this sorts it.
Cheers

Excellent cheers! haha didn't see it there

They weren't there earlier. I decided that you'd be the last person I'd search for those threads myself for
legend.
Oh and yeh seems it was a minor fault... plugged it back into comp and disconnected again, seems to be sorted in comm manager now.

CM10 Battery Drain and Feature Request

Hi there,
I installed CM10 (thanks a lot for it by the way) this morning and it seems my display sometimes just activates without reason. At first I only noticed the device being extremely warm, so I check battery usage and 92% of it have been "display". The device went from 95% to about 50% in a matter of a two or three hours with me not using the tablet at all in that time. When I checked again a little later, the display was active, although I am sure I had sent the device to sleep mode.
Also, here are two features I would like to request:
1. Please add a way to rotate the lockscreen
2. Please add Mobile Data as a switch for the quick settings (the one you get to by "clicking" the clock). It is rather annoying to go through the menu to activate / deactivate it...

OK, found the fix for that problem... the other one still stands
And I have got an additional issue now:
my Mobile Data Connection doesn't work. My carrier is o2 Germany and the stock ROM had some issues with that carrier as well a while back. Maybe it is the same problem?
For now I am switching back to stock, without mobile data, the tablet is only half as usefull, even with the otherwise better ROM
Add your APN Setting manually and it works nice. They are in the 3G Settings. I even had to just add a almost empty one to make things wake up again.

I have actually experienced the opposite--battery has been outstanding since flashing the ROM. I usually turn on Airplane mode when I am not using the phone, and am certain to turn off WiFi as well. Try that and see if it makes a difference. Also, be sure you are charging with an appropriate charger!

Thanks, that solved the 3G issue and, as far as I can tell after one day, the issue with the screen activating, as well.
For the other point, being able to activate / deactivate the mobile data easily, I found Power Toggle (can't post link, just look for it in the play market or remove the blanks: ht tps://play.google. com/store/apps/details?id=com.painless.pc) which can add a widget to the notification area that works great
You can add more switches to the menu popping up when clicking on the clock. Thats what I did. Its in System -> Notification Bar (Or something like that, I use it in German ^^)
