Hi guys!
I am thinking of investing a few dollars in a 2.5" to 3.5" plug (I think I found a good one) and I want to start plugging in my Wizard to my portable stereo.
This way I can listen to playlists by the pool, in hotel rooms, etc.
I was wondering if you guys have any advice or words of wisdom?
Are you happy with Windows Media Player?
Can it use playlists created in WMP from the Windows XP edition?
Sound quality okay?
Does the machine freeze at all?
I reallllly don't want to buy an iPod, so instead of experimenting, I figured I would ask you guys for your opinions on the matter.
In terms of the plug adapter, I know there are other threads about this. I am looking at the one at Pocket PC Techs.
I wonder if any other media player app allow cross-fading between tracks. I don't think the WMP does.
I look forward to any advice/comments/ideas before I get started!

I use Mort Player and it works well. It is freeware which is a bonus. I splashed out a whole 79p (That's 79 whole English pence) on an adaptor and the sound through my Creative headphones is great. I only use it as a back up for my mp3 anyway but it works a treat.
use tcpmp instead-its got eq/pre amp etc and it plays more than just mp3/wma.
think I payed about 1.50 for my adaptor. I recommend Koss Sparkplug headfones, they sound excellent 8)

2.5mm to 3.5mm adaptor
The adaptor I purchased was very cheap (and some would say nasty) but it works well with a decent set of stereo headphones. Indeed I was surprised at the sound quality compared to the standard phones that come with the device.

I have also been using my pda as an mp3 player for a while now. I use it mostly for podcasts, I have two ways of using it.
1) I have an adaptor I bought from expansys about 2 years ago for my first PDA Phone, and it happens to work with each I have owned since. I listen in the car with a tape deck adaptor and also with headphones.
2) I use WM5 Storage and connect it to my work laptop using a spare USB cable. Using WMP on my work computer I listen as if it was just a spare drive in the system.
I got my adapter from a Hong Kong dealer via eBay and it's great. Proper 4-pole mini plug and it even includes a tie-clip microphone in-line so you can use it as a hands-free in the car or whereever. Works great, and seems well enough built for the price of about 90p plus £3.50 postage! I wish I'd got a couple more in the same package now, so I could have one connected to the home Hi-Fi, etc.

I shelled out about 70 USD for a Jabra BT stereo headset. Best ever investment I made. Although it's pretty big and more like the studio headphone the sound quality is really good. Plus I use my phone handsfree and I can pick up calls easy as the music pauses and resumes after the calls.
If you have the money, you should try it. It's liberating.
the 2 ways i listen to music is
1: at the gym with my jabra bt620 which i love because of the great quality and no wires and
2: at work with my music docking station from brando seen here

cant go wrong for 35 bux shipped and the sound is great for the price and has volume control right on top. and it matches the wizard perfectly.

I just went to the local electrostore and bought the adaptor for € 1.
I'm also using it in my car to listen to radiostations on the internet.
I'm using a cassettetape with a headjack on it, put that in the adapter....

WMP stinks for PodCasts, it never remembers where you left off when you previously listened. It is great however for A2DP.
I had bought the Logitech iPod wireless headset for my old iPod, and once I put A2DP on my MDA I paired the Logitech with it and presto, I had a great headset that worked in stereo with the MDA.
I use WMP when I need to be able to control the selections (next, previous, pause, play) with the headset. Otherwise I use TCPMP for listening in my car, since it will remember where I left off the last time I listened. I have a cable that plugs directly from my phone to the AUX input on my car stereo, and the sound is fabulous.
I would like to see someone (Microsoft, take a hint!) make a media player that puts bookmarks in songs so whenever you come back to that song/podcast you can have the choice to pickup where you left off, or start over from the beginning. With podcasts and audio books, I always want to pick up were I left off. This is where iPod kicks butt over everything else! And I miss that part of it. (my son needed my iPod more than I did to "fit in" with all the kids at school, so he has it now)
I highly recommend if you don't have A2DP yet to get it, either by downloading the A2DP cab file or upgrading your MDA to the AKU2 ROM that will have it. Then get yourself some A2DP capable headphones like the Motorola HT820 (I've heard good things about these) or the iCombi AH10 headset. Both will act as headphones as well as have the mic to talk when someone calls.

Taking into consideration what I have below, which cab file should I use. I have a HT820 and am just chomping at the bit to get a2dp. Thanks.
A2DP and a bluetooth stereo headset is definitely the way forward! It's made my MP3 listening much more pleasurable than before when I used a 2.5 - 3.5mm jack and had to have my Wizard in cable length of my ears.
More expensive, but definitely the way to go.
MortPlayer + Car Screen Skin = Awesomeness.
I use PocketMusic, works a treat. The free version's okay, I tried the bundle and whilst some of the bits are good (the today-screen plugin) it wasn't enough to warrant paying for it. Main thing I like about it is that it looks good, and also can browse for choons directly from a network drive (which WMP, Mort and others didn't seem to be able to do).

I got my adapter from eBay. Cost £2 IIRC.
Check out manyui on eBay. He sells adapters for tons of phones. I ordered one for my MDA from him and it works great.

I thought I would start a thread where people can post what headsets they have and/or are using with the Kaiser. That way, if people want to buy a headset to use with the Kaiser they can know ahead of time whether or not it will work. I love this device, but right now I am not very pleased with my headset. Respond and I will try to keep it up to date!!
1. (Me) Plantronics 665 - Previously a very good headset. Now with Kaiser, not very good quality. Barely functional with lots of static.
2. Moto H700 - Seems to be good. (x2)
3. Moto HT820 - Stereo Headphones, but good.
4. Plantronics 310 - No report.
I'm using the Motorola H700 and it works fine.

I am using the HT700 for standard driving. But I also use the Motorola HT820, BT stereo headphones, and they work as well. Music plays from the phone, and if a phone call comes in, Microsoft Voice Command annouces the caller. I can then press the call phone, the music pauses, I take the call. When the call is over, the music resumes where it left off.
i have a set of the ht820 but I feel like a retard with em on cause they are huge, anyone tried those new slim ones they sell at the ATT store?

For me it’s a Plantronics 310 right now, but I'm looking to upgrade. I will likely stick with one of their products too, as I’ve processed around a quarter million inbound via their wired sets at work.
There was mention of a pretty cool Jawbone modification by AVERYSOUND in an earlier thread. It’s pricy however but worth looking at. It appears to address complaints I’ve heard about the earpiece not being a factor.
Update: I found Discovery 510 (Plantronics) that I had misplaced some time back. Well I charged it up and paired to the Kaiser earlier today. What a bummer. The sound quality is ok, but the volume is just too low, even at the max setting. It’s also bit more cumbersome to slip on in a pinch (like while driving). Bottom line is the 310 sounds much better to me from a volume standpoint.

the new ones do look a whole lot cooler, I didn't care so much but with as sleek as the tilt looks my headphones should match
The Blueant Z9 works very well. I like how voice command is announced through the headset.

I have the JX10. It was a dream with my 8525 it sounded and worked great.
caveat: in general it is a very delicate and breakable headset -- I have had two of them and done numerous repairs to keep them from falling apart - I have cannibalized the first to keep the second one going - but what the hell, I love that little head set with my 8525.
BUT
It is an unusable pig connected to the Tilt.
It pairs ok, but when you activate voice command or try to answer a call it activates the phone but will not transfer sound (or mic) to the ear piece. Sometimes after a short time the JX10 beeps and then you can hit the connect button again and it will transfer the sound. If you place a call it will not play the ring signal into the ear piece or the handset and it will only allow you to connect sound (signaling you with a couple of beeps) to hear the call until after the called party has answered.
Maddening!
I've actually struggle to answer or make a call using it and finally got the sound through only to hear my friends on the other side yelling "HELLO?! - HELLO! - YOUR PHONE SUCKS!"
it's embarrassing.
Don't even get me started about how bad it sounds on the Tilt.
I'm tempted to go back to the Hermes, but I love my new Tilt...

I purcahsed the jawbone with military sound dampening....its pretty cool. I use it alot and it sounds GREAT!
Now I am alos looking at the Mototola s9, as I want to be able to listen to music. Let me know if anyone has robb with the S9. for the reviews on the Motorola S9 seem 50/50.

I have been using mine for about 2 months and so FAR really good with the ATT Stock ROM. On the Hermes with WM6 cooked ROM's I experienced strange issues like music resuming after a call (even though the music was paused BEFORE the call came in). Since getting away from the cooked Hermes ROM's (no offense to anyone at all), the performance has been SOLID. I am very Happy...

Jabra BT8010 Convertible (single/stereo) headset
Well, since I figured I was going to be really stepping into the 21st century by getting my Tilt, I determined to jump into it with both feet ! Hence this headset.
I did alot of research on the BT headset (like I did on the Kaiser/Tilt itself), and I knew pretty much what I wanted to do -- and this Jabra BT8010 convertible (mono/stereo) headset totally fit the bill. I planned on answering calls as normal, but I listen to alot of music, too, and wanted just one thing to carry around. If you haven't seen one of these headsets online, it's about the only one I'm aware of that "converts" -- that is, it has a main unit, and the "second half", or "satellite" that makes the stereo part of the equation optionally plugs into and tethers to the main part when you want to listen to music, too. The whole thing is quite small and svelte -- though ever so slightly "cyborg" (you'd have to see it worn).
The function of this headset has been flawless so far, and the sound quality is just mind-blowing (yeah, it's that good). Volume won't get quite as head-bangingly loud as I might like, but the overall fidelity and usable flexibility of this combo just puts it head over shoulders above anything else I've tested out.
A little pricey, but they are just really good.
I use the stereo headset Jabra BT620s with the Kaiser. It works very well both for music and for the phone, even in noisy environments
The old school Motorola HS850 works fine from my experience. I also own a Jawbone, which sounds tinny when compared to the HS850.

Motorola S9 for me too
though I could never paired it to a 2nd device SIMULTANEOUSLY though ... any advice ??
I followed the instructions to a T ... yet, it always paired to the last one ... I thought this is capable of upto 9 devices in list ... and they said it's capabled of simultaneous pairing ???
summary:
/ paired to phone.
/ turn off phone and attempt to paired to 2nd device ( desktop stereo ... desktop PC ..etc..etc
/ even went as far as "unticked" the "use as stereo headset" withing the bluetooth setting on phone !! only ticked as " use as handsfree " ... tried both ways too.
it always connect only the the last paired device.
now ... if I'd only paired to the phone ... it works as advertised in terms of listening to music and calls come in get interupted to answer the call & back to music when call ended.
but I can't use it as just handsfree on the phone and listen to music from another device ( bluetooth home entertainment ... desktop bluetooth PC...etc )
pairing to any device(s) individually works fine ... just not simultaneously though
any advice ???

I'll be mounting my phone above my dash and my aux-in port is in my center console. As such, I'd like a wireless solution (like #3), but I'd also like hands-free operation (like #2). I know such a thing exists (I found one on eBay), but surely there's a more elegant solution out there? Not one shamelessly parading around as a iPod shuffle?
Does anyone know of a hands-free device that connects to the phone via bluetooth and has a standard 3.5mm audio out? The only one I've found is parading around like an iPod shuffle - more than a little tacky.
i have one, it does look a bit like a shuffle though... works great though and even came with a BT transmiter that you can plug into anything with a 3.5mm jack and it will stream it with A2DP ( the receiver/headset is A2DP also) all for like $35 shipped. i monted it in my motorcycle helmet so i have wireless tunes plus the call come through both speackers so its actually intelligable while riding
IMHO its worth putting up with the shuffle-esque look for the price and features

Well, it is a bit more expensive, but there are headunits with integrated Bluetooth stereo and handsfree capability.
Parrot makes one (relatively expensive). I think Blaupunkt does too.
Sony has two models with built in stereo and handsfree Bluetooth integration, the MEX-BT2500 and MEX-BT5000. The 2500 is probably the least expensive solution that still has a CD player, I have it in my car and love it, although I admittedly have not even attempted to use the handsfree functionality (due to the fact that it is installed in an incredibly noisy convertible). I use the headunit for BT stereo and a Plantronics 655 for handsfree conversations.

Wow - hadn't even considered that, but thanks! Sadly, I have a Mazda3, which I really don't think would play nice with a different head unit. The stereo is just really integrated.
I guess I might have to go with the shuffle look-alike. Does anyone else own this? Can you confirm that it's decent?

According to http://www.trittonsales.com/products/TRIBH102.html, it seems that the microphone is in the actual unit (necessary, since I won't be using the included headphones but rather hooking it to my aux), and I think it has the remote controls on it.
(On another note, as someone who has zero bluetooth/headset experience, I wonder what will happen when I'm listening to my music in the car and get a phone call - will the feedback just suck if the person is coming over the speakers and the mic is picking it up?)

iTech makes several models, like Clip Radio or Clip R35, that are similar to Tritton. They run a little cheaper but are hard to find (try eBay). Might be sold as the HTC S100. Also, check out the Motorola S705 SoundPilot, which includes an LCD screen.
If you're thinking about an installed solution, check out my detailed review of the MK6000 in the Wizard forum. Also, Motorola T605 is similar to MK6000. Not as many features but much cheaper.
Just a word of warning if you use Voice Command with A2DP: once A2DP is connected, Voice Command audio prompts no longer work via Bluetooth (commands still work, just no feedback). Apparently, I am not the only one with the problem.

I just want to thank everyone very much for all their help! I guess it's down to deciding between three models. So if anyone has any experience with any of these, I'd love your feedback!

I have been using 2 scenarios in my car for years now:
1. Direct connection via audio plug, mic in the middle, then AUX to car stereo.
2. Bluetooth connection using the itech R35 with a short cable connected to the AUX car stereo.
Though I'm using Prophet, not a Kaiser, but you can draw the same lesson learned.
Direct connection is always clear, and you do not consume more battery on your phone. And when its connected, you are always ready to pick up incoming all. But this configuration requires 2 steps to pick up the call: one press from your car stereo to switch the input to AUX, then one press on your green button to pick up the call, unless you also play the music from your PPC.
BT connection, you always need extra step to enable the BT on the phone, and then switch on the BT adapter. If you forget to do this, you cannot pick up the incoming call. Also, the BT adapter (my experience with R35 with WM6) most of the time the connection was not established automatically, you can reestablish the connection by pressing the blue button once and then look at the phone to make sure the connection now is okay before start driving).
And you also carry one more new routine: to take the BT adapter for charging.
My experience after using it for a while, not very confinient. I'm looking into better solution, which is replacing the stereo unit with integrated BT one.

Thanks so much! Unfortunately, my phone is mounted on the dash, but my AUX is inside my center console. Therefore I can't use the wired solution.
However, both locations have 12V ports, so I CAN keep the both phone and BT adapter powered. Sounds like that's the way to go.
What has your experience been on the i.Tech Clip R35 as far as quality is concerned?

I just ordered the Sonorix C3 to test out myself. Was between that and the Moto S705. The range on the Moto seems too good to be true. Lots of bad reviews. Haven't heard much of the Sonorix but the few reviews I have found are positive.

i.Tech Clip R35, whenever you plug in the power plug (very tiny pin, I wish it is a mini USB like the PPC so I can reduce charger to bring along for travel), and it starts charging, it will turn off the BT during the charging period.
If you can find the one with mini USB charging port, that will be better.
It might not sound annoying for you if you have not used it, but after using it for a while, you will find that extra job everytime you enter and exit the car, ie: switching it on and then off, checking the BT connection before start driving, will eventually become problematic as well, or you can call it laziness. =)
In term of quality, the sound will be very loud and clear, as you use your car speaker. Very nice while driving. But the mic quality is not very good, people will say their barely hear you. I use a short cable and hang the chip R35 just below the rear mirror to get it closer to me.
And remember, to press the R35 to accept call, not your phone anymore. =)
My wish is something like this one (see the picture attached).
I ordered one, the BT connection is perfect. It turns on whenever you switch on your car, and it draws power from the car, so it never needs to be charged. It initiates the BT connection automatically to your phone.
The only draw back is it uses FM to feed to audio to your car stereo. I wish it has an output that I could connect to the car AUX.
In my city, all of the FM frequencies are used, so its very hard to get a clear transmission using any channel. Otherwise, this is the best choice.
I just checked their website (www.satechi.com), its kind of weird, now they do not have this product any longer. They used to have both flavors, with and without A2DP. Most people concern about the FM transmission quality and the mic performance. Otherwise, its an excellent idea. No wire at all.

I'm sorry to hear about the miniUSB port - I was hoping to cut down on chargers too. Worse, it seems, is that it isn't useable while charging - I suppose it's not a deal-breaker, but I would have liked to just be able to charge it while I used it.
Glad to hear the audio is good, and I hope the mic works somewhat well, as it will be beside me in the center console.
I want to hear your thoughts on the R35 as well drokkon. I am curious to see what you think about mic quality so I can decide if I really want to get it or not!

I just received my R35 yesterday (I ordered it from a Hong Kong-based ebayer, so keep in mind that it takes quite a while to get here).
Started using it right away after charging it for 3 hours. Initial thoughts:
Charger isn't MiniUSB, so I'll have to find some kind of car charger solution. Although, it's been pointed out that it doesn't play music while charging anyway, but I'd still like to leave it in my car at all times.
Music quality is superb! Also one little snag: unlike my bluetooth stereo headset, this thing doesn't automatically pair back up every time you power it on. You have to power it on, and then "click" the power button one more time to actually connect it to your phone again.
Called voicemail and it was cool to hear my phone over the car speakers. Unfortunately, I have yet to actually take a real call, so I'll have to get back to you on the mic quality. My Mazda3 will also make a great test bed, as it has "pronounced road noise" (but that was the only "con" listed in tons of otherwise great reviews, so I got it anyway!).
That is a bummer to hear that it doesn't automatically pair back up every time. But I guess it won't be that bad once it becomes habbit.

Okay - so here are my final thoughts:
You're right - it does become habit: hold for two seconds to power on, click once to re-pair. Pretty simple.
The sound quality shocks me - I'm no audiophile, but as far as I'm concerned, this isn't "near" CD quality, it IS.
The connection drops once in a while between phone and R35. After a call, sometimes the music is paused, sometimes it picks up where it left off, and sometimes it re-starts the song. This must be due to something I'm doing wrong or just the clumsy nature of what I perceive to be a fairly young technology. It's most likely the Tilt rather than the R35.
On to mic quality! I've only made two calls. Both times, people could hear me fine, despite that the device was in my center console, somewhat blocked by my shoulder. I was definitely speaking up, as my car is pretty loud on the highway. However, both times the callers asked to be taken off of hands-free because of pronounced echo (no small feat while driving, considering that turning off hands-free, as far as I know, involves clicking "menu").
Potential mic solutions: My device is pretty stationary, being attached to my console with a 4- or 5-inch audio plug. I'm thinking about getting a longer cord, so I can maybe turn my stereo down and hold the mic closer to my mouth... so much for hands-free, but maybe it would help the echo. More likely, I think I'll just let the R35 handle the "wireless stereo" and my headset handle "headset," since WM6 allows me to choose between those two bluetooth modes. That way the phone will ring while listening to my stereo, I take the call with my headset, and then resume listening to my stereo... I presume.
Finally - battery life. It boasts standby time of 16 hours and 6 of talk (I believe). I know you're not supposed to leave batteries in the cold, but my R35 was in the car overnight during the cold snap in Colorado last week - it probably was in the upper teens Fahrenheit. The day before, I fully charged it and listened to it for no more than an hour (and that's a generous estimate). The next day, I got 20-30 minutes before it went dead. I didn't realize that cold zapped batteries that dramatically. Since I always want to leave this thing in the car, that's another case for a car charger.
Speaking of car chargers, I guess I will post again, asking if anyone knows how I can get a "custom" one. There's this ridiculously tiny plug, plus the voltage/wattage listed on the wall transformer - surely I can find a custom solution...?

I don't own a Kaiser "yet". But I tried the Sony HBD-DS220 (or DS200) recently on my car w/ Axim X51v and Asus P525, and it works perfectly. Sound is perfect and you can't really notice it's over BT. And one nice thing about this headset is you CAN charge it while listening to music. But like all A2DP device, you will notice 1-2 sec out of sync if you use this for movie or MTV.
So I love my incredible...best phone ever...haha. Which is why I'm making all these changes to accommodate it!
I was playing with it yesterday, and I ran pandora and navigation at the same time- during which, I called myself, and the phone call went thru. No freezes, no glitches, nothing. So Instead of just having cords galore when plugging into my car. Can I just buy a bluetooth cardeck and sync it with my phone and go from there?
Has/Is anyone doing this now? Advice is always appreciated- Thanks in advance!
I have a PIONEER FH-P800BT and its great. Bluetooth works great for calls and A2DP streaming. When streaming audio alerts come through also, so you may want to pick some that arent too obnoxious. Ipod controls work pretty well too if your into that sort of thing.
I use a bt stereo too. It works awesome. People can here me well and I stream music all the time. As soon as proclip comes out with the Incredible device holder, I'll be all set. I use a JVC KD-BT1 head unit.
I am using a Kenwood BT200 and I also seem to have no issues with music and phone calls
I don't have my Incredible just yet but I've been using a Motorola T505 Bluetooth in my car since before I got my G1 and haven't had any issues with it. Had it about two years now. It has a built-in FM Transmitter so I'll listen to Pandora or my own music through my car stereo even when people call me I'll hear it through the speakers. No one ever reported not being able to hear me clearly when using it.
I was thinking about this some more and the more I think about it, the more I don't think Pandora will play via bluetooth. You will definitely be able to play from your library

Yep, pandaora and slacker work via a2dp
Yes. I have DUAL head unit and works fine with A2DP BlueTooth with my Incredible and yes Pandora plays thru A2DP with no problem. So, go ahead and do what ever U R thinking of doing.

I just ordered a Motorola T605 for my car (2001 RX300 without nav) and a Parrot MKi9000 for my wife's car (2006 saturn ion). I would have prefered to get the moto for both (since it's $100 cheaper), but her radio doesn't have a mute switch and probably would have been harder to install. I'm going to do the install in the coming weeks myself.
Kenwood DNX6140 BT setup works great
I have the kenwood unit in my Trailblazer EXT and got the car bracket at VZW store. The suction cup places the phone way out of convient reach any way you try so I use the holster part with a vent clip that I had from another mount from an XM unit I tossed in favor of Pandora. Nav, Pandora, anything else runs fast and flawlessly, phone calls great.

nice. simple, low tech and cheap. and there was me thinking i could sit back and stream all my music from my hd2 to my hifi and control whats playing from the hd2, from any room in the house, wirelessly, without any wires, or cables, or hassle..........the ipod4 looks better every day.

I have a Hitachi "Living Systems" Hi-Fi, and it has bluetoth built in. I CAN stream music from my HD2 anywhere within the bluetooth range. Quality is excellent to my non-HiFi ears.

Feel free to jump ship though, people who don't bother to research have iPhones.
I have an Acoustic Research Lanyard bluetooth headphone set that works very well for me. The nice part for you is it allows you to use any headphones you like. That makes it easy to use a headphone to dual RCA cable ($3) and stream music wirelessly. I got it on sale on Buy.Com for something like $23. I actually bought two more and they are still in their boxes. I figured either I would give one away at some point or I would use another new one if something happened to my beloved one I use all the time to listen to Slacker Radio and podcasts. The model number is Audiovox ARWH1 Mini-Bridge Stereo Headset. If you can still find it I would jump all over it.
