How to switch 3G on and off quickly? - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

I prefer to keep my Hermes locked on GSM/EDGE for battery life and calls quality, but sometimes (when I want to browse Internet) I would like to turn 3G ON temporary. Getting there through Phone settings menu is just too many stilus clicks. I'm looking into doing that in one or two clicks. What choices do I have (using WM6)?
I saw Connection Manager with 3G button on it, but I cannot find it any more.
Thank you!

There is a thread here on Bandswitch and commmgrpro. It is updated by the developer danielherrero who is a member here. The applications are no longer freeware although I believe there is an earlier free version available through the thread. You can easily google the commercial version.
Mike

there are also Commanagers that have a 3G tab in them now schaps made one and a few other people and yes there free to download and .cab versions just make sure you also install SDKCERTS.cab as well and have the commanager shut off before installing but there are whole threads about how to install them in Hermes Mobile 6

Schaps 3G Comm Manager did the trick for me.
Thank you very much!

GPRS/Connection stays on and kills my batt. life :(

I have an unlocked Cingular 8525 on TMOBILE. I have TZONES plan. I have it set to check my gmail/hotmail every 60minutes....also have NewsBreak to check RSS feeds 2 times a day.
The problem is that my connection stays on once it is started on its own. Since phone is in my pocket i cant tell till i take it out and then i have to manually close the connection.
So is there a setting or .cab or app to close innactive connection? Anything that wont affect me while im browsing or chatting MSN.
I tried search but could not find the answer, also i suck at searching...sorry.
Thanks in advance!
adam we need a bit more info.
Please could you add the info about your device (ROM, Radio version etc...) into your sig, and also fill out your country and carrier in your profile.
An updated radio stack might fix this.
Having a cab that would turn off inactive connections would be very useful. Hope somebody finds the answer, same thing occurs with my device, I have to manually turn off after finished using. It is possible that the connection will terminate on my device when inactive, I have never trusted it to happen. If it is possible with my current radio is there a way to set the amount of time till disconnect. Maybe you know the answer Mrvanx.
With Comm Mgr Pro you can set to close idle connections for a X quantity of senconds..... (this is, connections that havent data traffic during x seconds)
How can i check my ROM and Radio version? Ive only had my phone for 2 weeks.
The apps connect on their own thru my TZONES GPRS data plan. When they are done getting new mails/rss feeds the connections remains open untill i manualy close it....this eats up my battery.
Where can i get Comm Mgr Pro? HOw much?

Thanks for the info, I haven't put that on my device as of yet, just waiting to see some additional feedback. I just looked at the post and it seems that there is plenty to read there now, I will read over the course of the day and likely install. Will let you know if I find any issues.

My connection is on 24/7 (alot of the time in UMTS mode) and i havent had to charge it up yet since upgrading to the new radio.
GPRS might be attached but its not ALWAYS transferring.

If you wait for about 10 mins im updating my "radio upgrade guide".
The radio stack just controls the phone and GPRS stuff, wifi and BT are part of the OS.
BTW the latest version (1.40.30.00) works great, no complaints of battery drain, shogunmark has had his device on for over a day and is around 50% on battery life.
While you are waiting you might want to safeguard your device against a potential Brick (knackered device) by Flashing HardSPL to your device
If connection is staying on like mine did, it's worth checking data transfer icon is still active on Comm Manager

Make the phone remain on GPRS?

on my previous phone (kaiser) you could make the phone remain on gprs and this would help with the battery life as the phone would not constantly be searching for 3G etc.
Can this be done on the dual?

Exactly in the same manner you have done with your Kaiser.

Best way to do that is add the "3G" line in the COM manager with Schaps tool.

Keep Connection Alive - Ozone

Hi everyone,
I ordered my Ozone the day it became available on VZW's site, and xda-dev has been the only place that I've been able to find any truly helpful info. This is my first smartphone, and the community here has been invaluable. Thank you all.
I have a couple of issues that I haven't been able to figure out yet. The one from the title - I use two apps; Pandora and WMtorrent, that time out - no matter what I've tried- when I start them and put the phone down. Especially frustrating in Pandora... I can only sing along with the first two minutes of any song now - very embarrassing at parties.
I am making an assumption about the source of the Pandora problem, I know it isn't supported on the Ozone. If I'm wrong, please correct me.
I've hunted around in the registry, but I haven't found anything to tweak connection settings yet. Any advice appreciated.
Also, if anyone knows how to set the phone to always use wifi when available, that would help too. I set Start> settings> connections >advanced to either automatic or wifi, and as soon as I get out of range it defaults to VZW as the preferred connection.
Lastly, the HTC ref name for my phone is 'Cedar'. Any difference worth noting? I'm looking forward to the cooked ROMs that are being developed for the Maple.
Thanks again for a great community.

When you into COMM Mgr to turn Wifi On, turn Data Connection off at the same time.
Reverse process when you turn Wifi Off.

I'm having an identical problem with Pandora except I find even if I'm surfing the web or making button presses within Pandora, the song still times out after about 2 minutes. That happens with each and very song but it will eventually switch to the next song if I let it sit. I'm on the Sprint HTC Snap.
With the HTC Dash 3G (T-Mobile version of the Snap) there is a couple registry edits you can do to keep the connection open.. perhaps there is something close for the other versions. Here are the reg keys foe the Dash 3G:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\ConnMgr\Providers\
{7C4B7A38-5FF7-4bc1-80F6-5DA7870BB1AA}\
Connections\*your connection name*\AlwaysOn = 1
There will be two *your connection name* to look for one is Data the other Internet (Internet is usually assigned to WiFi connections or 3G)

Yup, that worked for me! I bet it'll kill battery life though. This must be a problem specific to pandora since none of my other streaming radio/youtube apps lose collection. Still... Many Thanks!
I tried this reg edit but it still cuts out. One time one song played all the way through, never before or after that though. I'm using a 3vo rom on the HTC OZONE for Verizon (CEDAR) any thoughts? I think I'll update to the latest rom by 3vo tomorrow.

I tried changing my power settings but it didn't seem to help, maybe I just need a clean start, time for an updated rom! Thanks for the help though!
I'm now running the latest rom from HTC tried the registry edit, rebooted my phone, and still my pandora cuts out after about 2 minutes. Any suggestions on what my power management settings or any other settings should be to make this work?
Thanks.

How do I?

My HD2 is an Australian Telstra version hence with a lot of preloaded links.
1. some of these which I cannot delete, any Ideas?
2. I have downloaded a small app to control bluetooth and wifi as I use them a lot, how do I get this to the sense screen, I am in and out of the car a lot.
3. How can I force opera to use wifi instead of the carrier when I am in wifi range
4. I am about to use the replacement HTC sense app by cookie, is it a modified version and will it blend in with my carriers requirements.
5. lastly for today when the phone is locked and the slide is used to unlock, i notice after many disconnects that the buttons are still active, whats the point of the finger slide, or am i missing some thing, I would like to not accidentally disconnect people when i pull the monster from my pocket.
Thanks guys
I appreciate your help
Hey as far as designating a data connection to a specific program there is a cab you can install called wmlonglife that will accomplish this check out this thread to find out more about it
In regards to number 3, once you're connected to Wifi, your HD2 should just use WiFi for everything that uses the internet rather than your carrier.
This means Opera should automatically use Wifi when connected!

[Q] How to make the HD2 GPRS only?

Hi,
A strange request for a strange scenario.
In my office 3G / EDGE etc etc do not work. Reason is uknown but believed to be a problem with a local mast and infterference within the office.
How do you switch of all the high speed networks so that the phone purely picks up GPRS.
Everyone is having the same problem, i.e. I PHones, but they are able to switch of all the high speeds.
Some one with an old Nokia 5110 has full service, so thoughts are if I can revert to only this capability I can use my phone in the office.
Note : I would really need a solution that is quick and user friendly, as would want to set back to high speed when leaving the office.
Thank you.
Comm manager 3g button
There's a little cab called HTC_HD2_CommManager_3G which adds a 3g on/off button to the comm manager
