Major disaster for me - when sms messages show, no audio alert is being played.
I'm looking at my Sound & Notification settings, and I have:
"Messaging: New text message" set to
Play Sound (checked) - Alarm4
Repeat grayed out (but would love it to repeat - might look at 3rd party)
Display message on screen (checked)
Flash light for no limit
I did the same for: "Messaging: New e-mail messag.." but the rest is cut off. No difference.
Would there be a difference when sending directly to my phone # (#########) vs using email to send to the device (##########@txt.att.net in my case) ??
I jumped too soon, but I mught as well post the solution for future searches:
Photo Contacts PRO was suppressing the audio. Sending to the pager using ##########@txt.att.net was causing the pages to show as "unknown" - the HTC shows it as coming from <today's date as the sender>
Photo Contacts PRO has a SMS audio default, and a "Unknown" default.
The "Unknown" was set to no audio.
Changes it and it works fine.
<Whew!>

Hmm i use SMS receiving acknowledgement by standard.
Can i turn off the signaling for it?
I think just a popup is enough. I dont need a "beep beep" on my phone immediateley after sending a SMS to another.
Hello messia,
As the SMS notification is a simple SMS you recieve from the network when the recipient get your SMS, you have to deactivate the sounds for incoming SMS's.
You can controll all notifcations in the settings:
Start > Settings > Sounds & Notifications > Notifcations
(Start > Einstellungen > Sounds & Benachrichtigungen > Benachrichtigungen)
If you choose "Messaging: new SMS" (Messaging: neue SMS) , you can turn off the sound for incoming SMS messages.
The downside of this is that sound notification is disabled for all incoming SMSs, not only for the send notifcations.
Greetings,
BGK
thx but that is not the problem, the problem is that i want a sound for a new sms i get, but i don`t want a sound for a sms that someone receives from me.
A popup for this is sufficient
I remember turning OFF the notification of sent messages previously, i think the info is in the forum somewhere, but it turns it all off. Both sound and popup.
I think it was a registry hack too. Was a long time ago, im fighting wm2005 now so havent got time to check back how i did it sorry.
yes i know how to deactivate completely but i just want to deactivate the annoying sound
it`s impossible, isn`t it?
Yes, it is impossible. The SMS you receive from the network looks the same as an sms from one of your contacts to your phone. The device cannot distinguish one SMS from another, so you can only choose to switch of the sound for all sms-es. You can also choose to disable delivery notification entirely, but then you will only get a pop-up that the sms is send, not when it is received by the other party, since the network will not send you an sms to notify you of delivery.
However, even when I am writing this, I consider two issues:
1. There is some program floating around that enables blocking certain senders of sms. That means however that the sms will not reach your phone, so this is bascially the same result as with switching sms delivery notification off.
2. BUT! Darek, the creator of DKToday ( search for him on this forum with the term DKToday, or his name dkot) uses the SMS delivery for counting the number of sms send this month. Basically, he could not find a way to extract sent sms info from the system, so instead, he chose to count the returning delivery notification sms from the network as a measure of the no. of sms sent by you. So, in some way, he must be able to distinguish delivery notification sms from normal sms, as sent by your contacts. I recommend you to contact him and ask him how that is done, maybe he can tell you what the distinguishing feature is between normal incoming sms and network sms.
Edit: After re-reading your first post in this thread, I may have given you an answer to a problem you did not have. Do you want to cancel out the sound for the incoming network delivery notification sms, or the sound from the pop-up after sending the sms ( the system sound)? For the delivery sms, see my answer. For the system sound: I have no clue...
I have written to him. Maybe he can help
I've got an annoying problem that I can't seem to fix....there is no option in Notifications to change how sent sms notifications arrive - so it vibrates and chimes every time. I need to keep the notifications themselves on, just without the audible notification!
Also, there is an option to set this for MMS messages which seems odd...
Any help would be appreciated. Cheers.
Dude- Im sure you have checked the settings in START>Settings>Sounds&Notifications right
Yeah. There is no option to change the notification for sms delivery reports though.
That's strange. it should be on the Notifications Tab in Sounds and Notifications. On the drop down list it should say "Messaging: New text message" you don't have that?
It's 'Messaging: New SMS Report' that I need and seems to be missing.
I have the same problem. I receive a LOT of SMS messages daily (100 and counting just today) and its horrible to get the same sound every 5 minutes!
I seem to have found the solution right here

Haven't installed it yet
Musicman - that settings is for incoming texts, on which you can set all the various options. 'Messaging: New text message'
Ubermark means that every time he sents a txt, you recieve a 'message sent' notification with sound.
What we are missing is a like for like setting for texts on 'Messaging: Sending MMS' - this would allow us to remove sound and/or notifications for text's sent.
Anyone any ideas?
Reg Edit to fix:
- HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Inbox
- create a new key "Settings"
- create a new string value "SMSNoSentMsg" and set the value to 1
do a search fro schap's tools and you can disable it from there

Its actually - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Settings\SMSNOSentMsg=DWORD:1
I have tried Ringo which works just OK. Photo Contacts Pro works well until it closes itself I guess because of memory.
All I really need is SMS tone to asign to a specific contact and would like a full photo caller ID.
Can I manually set an SMS tone to a contact or do I have to find a program?
Start > Settings > Sounds and Notifications
From the "Event" menu, select "Messaging: New Text Message" and select the tone you want.
that only sets universal text message (or any other function) sounds. I think the original poster wants to set them for specific contacts (like a ringtone).
I am with you on wanting a full screen contact photo with an incoming call. any ideas/programs you have found?
So I love my HD2, but have noticed that when you set a ringtone for a contact, it is just that a ringtone. This may sound silly, but is there a way, or a mod that will also play the same sound I have set for the ringtone, when I get a text message from that same contact?
Reason I ask, I use this phone for work, I get pages (text msgs) sent to my phone when a job or server has a problem. I then also have my bosses (as well as many others) contact info set up with a certain ringtone. My 6+ year old Motorola SLVR would play the same sound that was set for the contact if the person called, or texted. It made it difficult at times if my phone was across the room to determine if someone was actually calling or just sending a text, but if the HD2 could do this, I could at least separate out a majority of contacts from work pages.
I find it amazing my old 6+ year old phone could do this, but the HD2 cannot.
Thanks in advance!
One can set different ringtone for different event happening with HTC Sense 2.5.
Click Start > Settings > Menu > All Settings > Sounds & Notifications > Notifications.
Pull down the Event field for selection of happening. Set the appropriate ring type and ring tone to your desire.
Thanks, I get that.. I have a different ring tone per type already set up. Allow me to get a little more technical.
Sally - Ringtone = Song A
Bruce - Ringtone = Song B
Text Message notification = Song C
Right now, if Song C is set as the Text Notification, no matter who sends a text, Song C is played.
I want that if Sally sends me a text msg, her ringtone, which is set at Song A plays. If Sally sends me a text and then Bruce sends a text seconds later, I want Song A to play, then Song B to play.
Instead, the way the phone and software work, in the same scenario above, Song C is played both times. Song A and B are only played if the contacts Call, not text.
Pickin up what I'm throwin down?
OK. Understood what you meant now.
I don't think it is achievable with whatever that is available on the phone now.
Only commercial software has that kind of feature.

you can fix it with using an application that has feature
Something to note (as a result of the tweak)
1. Missing Unread count on the Messaging tab
First thing you will notice if you do not execute step 3 (as above), is that the messaging tab will never show any unread count bubble, even if there is a new incoming SMS. That said, you will still get SMS notification (i.e. notification sound, notification icon in the taskbar, etc)
Step 3 basically is a workaround fix utility, that fixes the problem by monitoring new incoming SMS and set unread count appropriately. It'll monitor the notification queue, and unset the read count once you processed the SMS notification. However, due to the way HTC implements its notification manager, which takes over standard Windows notification management, in some rare cases, the notification queue might be missed, and as a result you might see the read count not unset even though you have taken the necessary action (i.e. open the new SMS, dismiss the SMS notification, or set new SMS to read). When this happens, just soft-reset your HD, and you should be fine.
2. Missing MMS function
I have a temporary solution to enable MMS function in the Windows text messaging application. However, there's abit of problem in the time of the message transmitted, so I'm not posting the solution yet. You can however, do a google search on "arcsoft MMS" application, if this is one area you cannot live without. Originally Posted by zenkinz
