HELP! XDA MINI & Pay as you go / PAYG - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

Hi, i am looking at buying an o2 XDA MINI S and using it with my pay as you go simcard, it is a relativly new simcard (6months old) And i am just wondering if all of the features wil still work with it ?
THanks for any replys,
Cosstick
EDIT: I Also want to use the xda mini s with memorymap or tomtom/garmin gps, is this possible with a Payasyougo simcard ?

It has all the features that a contract XDA Mini S would have, but you need different settings for GPRS/MMS
and GPS will work aslong as you get a reciever for it.

What are these ? could you provide a link to one that would be suitable ?
And what do they do ?
thanks

i have
http://www.techfocus.co.uk/pages/pr...clid=CODPus_7zI4CFQESEgodv0pvAA&cookie_test=1
that one and it works fine..
it is what gets the signals from the satelittes and transmits it to your gps software on the pda.
i use it with TomTom and works good

So if i have understood correctly, this connects to the xda via bluetooth, and allows the phone to recieve the gps signals ?
thats not a bad price either,
does it sync with the software alright ? or is there alot of setting up to do ?

youve understood correctly
well i understand that if you want to use other bluetooth devices like headsets etc then you have to configure the onboard GPS redirection thing.
however i just use the gps, so it was easy..
took about 5 minutes first try to get a signal.. 1 minute now...(if that)

xda 2i connection to smartphone question

i have an xda 2i and a c500 smartphone, ive got an o2 contract sim in the c500 and all gprs settings work fine, in the xda 2i ive put an o2 pay as you go sim,
is there any way i can use the xda 2i to connect to the grps on the c500 settings
YES
i have the same a XDA2i and a orange Nokia 6630 on a 3g cotract with a trial of 1GB of data free per month for 3 months, so of corse i wonted to do the same as you and use another phones GPRS/3G connection, but the XDA2i did not have the Bluetooth profile of DUN dial up networking, but with the help of poeple on her it now works, i will try and find the link they gave me to show you how to do it.
But it works fine i use it everyday and will do for the next 2 months untill the trial runs out

thanks a lot mate, appreciated!

TomTom Go 700 with the XDA Exec

Hi All,
I have had a TomTom Go 700 for quiet a while now and was using this in conjuction with my SonyEricsson K700i to connect via GPRS to pick up traffic reports etc.
I have recently upgraded to an XDA Exec (WHAT A PHONE!). What I have found is that even though Bluetooth connectivity can be achieved for voice calls, the TomTom cannot seem to connect to the XDA to make an outbound GPRS connection.
Any ideas people?
Cheers,
Docta
o2 Staff Very Helpful

Using XDA as wireless modem

Is my operator able to tell when I am using my MDA pro as a wireless 3g/GPRS modem for my laptop etc, as opposed to browsing directly using built in apps? I ask because the T-Mobile bloke in the shop said I had to pay per megabyte if using the device as a modem.
If they can't, I am slightly questioning why I've got my MDA pro. I've already got an hp4700 which in many ways I slightly prefer, and that combined with a bluetooth phone could potentially do everything the mda does, except save me the embarssment of holding a large PDA with a crap speaker to my head when on the phone.
It's definitely not easy for them, but it is possible to tell (unlikely they would bother however). Why don't you just upgrade to Web & Walk PRO - it's only about £2 per month more than the standard WnW plan and it DOES allow you to use it as a modem?
I did it a few times with XdaIIi on GPRS. Speed was still bad and have my VPN drops all the time on PC. Just got the HTC P3600 and want to do the same using HSDPA.
Same issue with the operator: no body know how to set it up. The guys there eventually give up and allow me to browse their intranet to seach for info. Still not working yet.

"3" network on o2 branded Universal

I have an o2 branded (hardware and software) XDA Exec (it's unlocked). My current contract is coming to an end, so I am looking for a new contract. I am thinking about buying a contract with 3. However, I would like to keep my current phone even if the new contract includes a phone. My question is: can I put the sim in my XDA Exec? What functionality would I be able to expect? Would I be able to make phone calls, send and recieve text messages, make video calls, send and recieve picture messages etc.?
Yep, works fine, i've used my 3 sim before! Just need to add the correct connection details for the 3 portal etc.
though the three network will work . i will not recommend it because three network states do not use anyother phone with there sim cards.
Also my nokia 6230i and nokia 3220 both were working with three but they blocked them after two weeks.
so think before you use it;...
3 now have the Qtek version of Exec on their network so theres no reason why you cant use your exec now. I've never had a problem with another 3G phone on the network. The only problem that sometimes seems to occur is when the 3G SIM is put in a non 3G phone - itworks for a while then after draining too much power (as 3G SIM is higher rating than GPRS SIM) it kills the phone.... Why not just pop into a 3 shop though or call customer services?
i'm trying to dig out connection details to three. Could anybody shed some light? I've x-series addon and it would be nice if i can get it on my universal
thanks, sorted out! excellent one, i'm able to use msn messenger & web browsing. now it's time to check skype
Edit:SKYPE also works perfectly.

Well I have just been speaking to 3 and they will NOT support any non 3 handset nor will they give out sms, mms, or internet settings, morever if they discover that you are using a NON 3 handset then they will suspend service immediately... their customer service is absolute crap... major row on phone vowing never to return or continue to spend in excess of 100 GBp each month as pay as you go customer

Hi, Can u share your 3 settings for GPRS , MMs and web browsing, please . I am on 3 and have not been able to get the gprs working , nor the MMS. Thus can't get on to the net or msn etc on my O2 XDA Exec. Just for the info I have been using 3Sim on this for the past 7 months no problems with the phone functionality.
Thanx in advance
Tunndoc
Can anybody help with this query? I'd be interested to know too.
Thanks
you might find http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-266774.html useful it shows the settings.
I am on 3 with a XDA Exec and I can get almost all functionality aside from buying stuff from 3 online as it doesn't have the correct root certificates from 3 (and 3 never had the exec as a phone anyways!)
