Question about the radio-only upgrades...

Hi all,
I currently have the HTC Tytn with the original ROM on it. I'm on Cingular's network, and am having the problem where the call either gets dropped completely or temporarily when the phone tries to "hand off" 3G to 2G. Are any of the radio-only upgrades that are on the ftp supposed to address this issue? I'm not looking to change the ROM. I'm currently on radio verion 1.03

I have a TyTn on Cingular as well. I upgraded to 1.20 radio ROM and haven't experienced any problems you're having moving to/from 3G areas.

yes, i'm on the original HTC ROM, just upgraded the radio.

The best combination is the original HTC ROM + 1.16 RadioROM from what I have heard around ..

I'm having much better battery performance with the HTC ROM and the 1.20 radio than I did with the 1.16 radio.

Goesto11, did you have any installation problems during or after the install with the 1.20 radio? I read a couple other posts where some additional tweaks needed to be made afterwards, but I'm thinking now that that was with the Cingular ROM.

1.20 Radio was actually from the latest iMate ROM from what I remember .. might want to verify ..
latest Cingular RadioROM was 1.16 ..

Nope, no installation problems at all (follow the directions and you should be fine).

I am wondering the same thing. I upgraded, but I haven't driven through any of the troubled areas yet. I guess we'll see on the drive home.

I'll install it today and report on it asap. A particular area that I go through on the way home from work attempts the hand off a good 80% of the time.

Oh yeah, one more (stupid) question...
If I install the 1.20 radio, then later end up doing a hard reset... after the hard-reset, will I end up with the original HTC radio, or the updated one?

Good question .. You will then always have an updated RadioROM .. even after a hard reset

Yeah, I did this yesterday. Your updated Radio ROM sticks with the device.
But what about installing an entirely new ROM; this overwrites the radio ROM right?

Yes, this is correct. A "normal/standard" ROM update will overwrite the System ROM, the Extended ROM, and the Radio ROM.

I can't seem to dowload a good file to unzip. It says "not a valid pocketpc app".

The ROM updates need to be run from a WinXP PC with an ActiveSync/USB connection to the Hermes...
and remember, Flashing can be a dangerous business, even if you know what you're doing... use at your own risk!

Wich ROM to use?

I have just succeeded in removing a simlock from a t-mobile MDA vario (QTEK 9100)
Now I want to get rid of the t-mobile screen etc etc
Wich of your ROM files can I use??? I am sooo confused. I saw some ROM's at Molski.biz but I'm not sure wich ROM to download to flash.

.. OK i found out:
* my device is a G3 device...
* I need to CID unlock with lokiwiz02b...
But my biggest question remains.. wich of the molski.biz ROMS to use?
2 options:
* • RUU_Molski.Biz_226102_22610105_022511_WWE (G3 Device. IPL/SPL like: 2.xx)
OR
* • RUU_Molski.Biz_226102_22610105_022511_NLD
Or am I completely wrong?

Mmmm OK well .. many thnx for the amswer but the question is still open.
My device states:
IPL 1.06
SPL 1.06
And here it says:
RUU_Molski.Biz_226102_22610105_022511_WWE (G3 Device. IPL/SPL like: 2.xx)
So does it upgrade my IPL/SPL?
I just want to be sure the flash of the ROM will work...

So I unlock CID, flash the ROM with the ROM file from molski, loose my dutch language but have a clean english one?
Sounds great, my confidence is growing...
Hopefully someone can take my doubts away so I can flash!

CID Unlock your device with LokiWiz 0.2b (and also SIM if you would like that) and after your CID is unlocked just upgrade to one of my (G3) Roms (the NLD for Dutch language and WWE if you want English).

I just wanted to say that this week I used the RUU_Molski.Biz_226102_22610105_022511_WWE ROM to upgrade my Wizard which had IPL/SPL 1.x and it worked perfectly....

what d u mean by "seems to hang"? do u mean the downloading of the activesync, or u have allready donloaded it but it hangs when suncing with wizard?

no it hung when installing the 4.5 version succeeded!

Tnx .... at last I have radio update ... wonder how it compares with older one .... signal quality perhaps.

when i want to update the radio rom my htp p3300 dutch version starts up again and the connection is lost. Then i get the message on the pc screen that the update is failed because of an connection problem (error 260). When my device is back online the collored screen (red green blue) is shown with a usb connection. The only thing i can do now is a soft reset
what goes wrong?

Well I just gave it a try, and everything that's stored on the device was still there.

I'm really curious if this will fix the "echo effect" problem. (Somebody calls me, I hear him perfectly but he only heares his own voice, echoed). This happens only from time to time, most of the calls are ok.

finaly updated my p3300 with this radio update.

First thoughts about the new radio (2.93.90):
1) Battery seems to last longer
2) My problem with "echoed phone calls" seems to be fixed.
I will keep an eye on these and I will update you, guys.

Probably better reception and battery efficiency.
No chance of UTMS or CDMA, this is a hardware, not firmware, limitation.
The P3300 is a quad band device, are there any additional bands in conventional GSM? Keep in mind UTMS is a hardware thing so the bands for 3G are not pertinent.

YUP i got the same problem, plus spme other softwares get into discordance for some reason. I hope V2 will fix all of'em.

Why does every time i try to update. The phone goes to black screen and disconect itself from the pc ( i have vista so windows mobile center.) instead as active sync.
Is that the reason or ??

i'm testing the rom right now and i will give a reaction in this forus a.s.p i know what is better in this rom. I hope the Battery live will be longer, because in the rom 2.94.90 the battery drains verry fast.

Why should I upgrade the GSM radio?

Downloaded and flashed perfectly, cheers Pof.
A basic reason for upgrading the radio rom is that it helps make calls clearer, fixes a few (not sure of any) bugs and generally increases battery life when making calls etc.

Chasing the dragon?
Is there any point chasing the numbers game? Just because one of the numbers is higher doesn't mean the software is any newer!
Take a look at the WM6 upgrades from O2 for DE and UK, released at the same time. It is obvious which parts of the numbering are region codes and which are software "versions".
RUU_Artemis_O2_DE_3.4.207.2_4.1.13.41_02.88.90_Ship.exe
RUU_Artemis_O2_UK_3.4.206.2_4.1.13.28_02.67.90_Ship.exe
i.e.
both are OS 3.4.xxx.2
both are Protocol 4.1.13.xx
both are GSM 02.xx.90
So as far as I can see, GSM 02.94.90 would be exactly the same version as 02.95.90, just for a different network provider or geographical region? No doubt they have to keep track this way as each "flavour" will need to be certified individually by each regional provider.

I have radio 02.94.90 and i tried to upgrade 02.95.90 but i received the message "file is corrupted". Someone can help me?

My previous Radio 2.95 probably had the bug of ignoring and not showing any signs of new Incoming calls often! Will give a try in this..

Regarding to toms information the new radio version has a higher quality and less battery usage!!!

you can make the update if you have the BB 4.1 rom.
I have done so, but not found a significant improvement in the signal strength.
I do have the impression I have longer battery life now

I use the B&B ROM 4.1 by TomCodon.
My radio version seems to be the original 02.67.90 (protocol 4.1.13.28).
Should I update to radio version 02.97.90?
What would be the advantage of this update?
Is there a possibility to backup my old, original radio version before updating to a new version?

As already mentioned above... "Regarding to toms information the new radio version has a higher quality and less battery usage!!!"
It is not difficult to find the original version but you won't need that. This version is much better with no problems,
