New Sprint Version of the HTC Touch, but its called the HTC Vogue. Pretty much identical to the HTC Touch, but its on a CDMA network.
http://www.pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=803
The only thing identical to the Touch is the way it looks.
It has a 400MHz cpu (compared to only 200MHz on the touch), 3G (EDGE only in the Touch), 256Mb ram (compared to only 128) and according to the site linked to; it'll have GPS.
This thing is everything the Touch isn't.
well, it supposedly will have the touchFLO thing, which is cool and what makes the touch the, um, touch!
the title is a tad missleading this is just an unlocked HTC for the CDMA network im pretty sure it will have Touch on it but sprint wont be releasing it within 2 months or it would have been leaked before. that and sprint just brought out the mogul and sprint isnt exactly the type of company to bring out 2 new pocket pc's so close together in the year.

i found a pretty good deal for an HTC Mogul online and it's branded as Sprint right now, would I be able to unlock this and use it on T-Mobile? I have a Wizard right now.
Sprint = CDMA... TMo = GSM... good luck!
that's why I asked!
The T-Mobile Wing is very similar to the Mogul, but it's a little slower. If you like the Mogul that's the closest HTC GSM phone. I've used the Wing and I like it a lot, but I like my Mogul better.

Yea I have a Wizard right now and the wing has the same processor so I'm not going to be upgrading to it, I just saw the 400mhz processor in the Mogul. Maybe I'll save my nickles and dimes and hope for a tytn

Please don't give ****ty advice -- this isn't helpful. The Wing/Atlas is quite inferior to the Mogul.
OP, the Mogul is a CDMA-based cousin of the GSM-based series of devices that have made HTC famous. The true sequel to the HTC Wizard is the HTC Hermes, and there is an absolute crapload of information available right here at xda-developers that can help you get the most out of your device if you go with a Hermes. I have two active contracts (one with T-Mobile and one with Sprint), and therefore I own both a Hermes and a Mogul/Titan. There are a couple of modest tweaks that were made to the Titan's design, but for the most part you'll see at least equivalent performance out of a Hermes.
If you've got cash to spend, I suggest hanging onto it and waiting a couple of months. The successor to Hermes, HTC Kaiser, is looming on the horizon and it offers a host of improvements over the Hermes (and the Mogul as well, for that matter -- though again, they're not direct competitors). If you live in the U.S., you'd be best-served by eBaying an AT&T/Cingular-branded Hermes (branded as the "8525") and running pof's free SIM unlocker to use it with your T-Mobile account. This is exactly what I did to use my Hermes with my T-Mobile account. I paid $400 even for a brand new Cingular-branded Hermes about six months ago, and I imagine that you could do even better today if you're savvy with eBay or through HoFo's buy/sell/trade forum. What kind of "pretty good deal" did you find on the Mogul, anyway? By all accounts, it should cost more than the Hermes.
You would be well-served by reading the wiki.
Actually, the Tytn or Kaiser would be the closest match for GSM (both can be used if unlocked with a T-mob sim card).
The Mogul (titan) works on different networks, with different protocols using different frequencies... there is no SIM card, and there is absolutely NO way in which the phone can even recognize a T-mobile tower!
Its like trying to activate one of those V-tech landline cordless phones with T-mobile... Both operate as phones, but there are just some things that are too different to ever be compatible!
if i was you zach , i would wait about 2 months for the cingular 8925 (htc tytn II) then unlock that phone and use it for t-mobile.

why do you even post in forums like this?
For your info, winMo devices always had hella good BT- its only the mogul that's had this new problem, and its due to a software glitch with the new chipset that it uses.
Nokias and SE's are no more reliable... I had many many BT problems with my Nokia 6230 that was only fixed months later with a software update. I also had some of the older SE phones, and they worked pretty well but had awful range.
I was very happily using WinMobile on GSM, and wouldn't recommend anything else over it!

If so, it shouldn't be lonely here much longer.

But google is the best place to start.... There aren't many topaz cdma users, so you must search the web to find content. I have looked for you guys to no avail.... There just aren't enough people using it yet.
Google.. yeah.. been there, done that..
I could also be the Leo.. seen here
Really it's Whitestone
Actually, it looks like Verizon will be using HTC's Whitestone platform in lieu of Topaz (http://www.wmexperts.com/verizon-imagio-whitestone-rumored-oct-6). It's been rumored that Sprint will be using Whitesone to replace the Diamond instead of Topaz.
Yes, we know that.. but we are tyrinig to figure out what the Whitestone actually is.
Is it a platform unto itself? is it a Blackstone? is it a Leo?
I think Whitestone is a code name for CDMA version of the Topaz. And the only reason it didn't get the Topaz name is because it actually has a bigger screen....so it needed a new coded name.

No...Warhawk is AT&T's code name for their US GSM Diamond 2 which will carry the name Pure when it is released. And Fortress is AT&T's code name for thier US GSM Touch Pro 2 which will carry the name Tilt2 whe it is released.
I know this is all very confusing especially when different phones that appear similar actually have different code names. But some of them are really just derived variations of an original other model.
So in essence a Topaz is a Diamond 2 (we all know this)...but a Whitestone is just a CDMA version of the Topaz with a larger screen. And a Warhawk is a Topaz or Diamond 2 with US GSM bands (and international bands) for AT&T.
I guess because the Whitestone actually represents a considerable differentiation in screen size from the original Topaz is why it deserved to have its own separate code name hence Whitestone instead of also being a Topaz. But now that we realize this I think it is okay to sort of consider the Whitestone as a mutated Topaz instead of a completely different generation device.
Recap: CDMA Topaz = CDMA Diamond 2 = Whitestone = Imagio

Ok... two more questions just to clarify... 1. Will the GSM version of the Topaz (Warkhawk) for AT&T have the same size screen of the Whitestone? 2. Will AT&T's version also support MediaFLO and have a similar kick-stand antenna like the Verizon Whitestone (Imagio)?
EDIT: Another question 3. Given that the Imagio is also a US Quad-band GSM phone, if it were unlocked, would I be able to use it with AT&T's wireless network and still somehow get the V-Cast service using MediaFLO?
See youtube videos of the Verizon Imagio below:

The AT&T Pure (Warhawk) will have a 3.2 inch screen
I'm not sure (I haven't read it anywhere) if MediaFLO will be included. My bet is that it doesn't. And according to the leaked picture today on WMexperts I don't see a kickstand so perhaps the answer is no antenna and no MediaFLO. I suggest investing in a Slingbox instead of paying for MediaFLO.
See pictures here:

If you can figure a way to unlock it ...which I suspect someone will eventually figure out...then yes it will be able to be used on AT&T's network. But it may be limited to just EDGE and no 3G on AT&T (not saying for sure it won't work on AT&T 3G...just speculating). And as for getting MediaFLO service this will depend on changing the software possibly on the phone to allow you to get a MediaFLO account through AT&T with the software that Verizon puts on it for MediaFLO...both AT&T MediaFLO and Verizon MediaFLO software may or may not be compatible.
Not sure if I answered more questions than I left unanswered but I see where your thinking is taking you...but I still recommend the Slingbox approach and forget the MediaFLO. Perhaps when we start seeing ATSC-M/H finally come out we can have devices with free TV reception.
EDIT: Acually looking at the leaked AT&T Pure picture again more carefully I do see a kickstand !!!! It is hard to see because the kickstand is black but it is there seen very faintly in the picture. So perhaps it is an antenna and does have MediaFLO capability!
Ok ok so I really want this phone but I don't care for the look of the Sprint version here in the states. It's fatter and bland, tacky looking... I'd like to get an imported one and use it on either T-Mobile or AT&T... I've heard some folks say that only Edge is possible on AT&T with the current model that's out but I'm wondering if you guys know any different? I'd be willing to use this on T-Mobile US or AT&T as long as I could get the 3g speeds... Are there any version of the Hero out right now or that have been confirmed coming out in the near future (within the next 30 days) that will be able to be used on AT&T or T-Mobile?
No - what you've heard is correct. At present, if you're in the US and want a Hero with 3G, it's either the Sprint Hero or nothing. However, there isn't really a whole lot of difference hardware wise between the Hero and the MyTouch 3G.
Regards,
Dave
I've read that the hardware is similar but I was kinda pining for the Sense UI which is what really got me excited about Android... before that I wasn't a huge Android fan. I'm all about the UI
I wonder if there is a way to install sense on a mytouch? Also as far as I know the US version of all other android phones only come in white and not black or dark gray which is what I would want. I could be wrong about that though.

There are custom Hero roms for the MT3G.
Well the main reason I wanted the European version aside from the 3g instead of the CDMA was the look of the hero... the MT3G doesn't have the chin and thin/sleek design that I like.
the hero wont work at all in the US? or just no 3g?
I am currently using the Hero on AT&T, you will not get the 3G band. The phone works great on Edge and I dont seem to see any speed difference from my 3GS Iphone.

how's it working out for you? i recently bought a Hero and i was deciding between that and the iPhone 3GS (coming from a HTC Touch Pro / Windows Mobile user). i'm also on AT&T so i' going to be going from 3G to Edge.
I would wait...
http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2009/07/02/htc-hero-hits-fcc-with-us-3g/
Note that this is a different model than the CDMA version that Sprint has. I think there are 3 possible things that will happen:
The Hero will be sold in an unlocked North American version.
The Hero will go to AT&T.
The Hero will go to Rogers, the Canadian mobile company that currently sells the Dream and Magic/Sapphire.
i have a problem. my hero arrived yesterday and i have at&t (us) and under phone status it works just fine. it shows i'm running edge, phone calls work. but when i try to go online and use any kind of data connection it doesn't work, anyone know what's going on? everything works on wifi but it doesn't pick up a data connection on edge when it says edge on phone status.
FIXED: nvm, i figured out i had to input the APN settings manually since the phone came unlocked from China.
Just buy a rogers HTC Magic and put one of the many hero roms on it. The rogers one has the same 3g bands as at&t. The only difference is the 3.5 not there and only a 3MP camera but I really don't see a difference in the 3MP and the 5MP. Atleast not from the magin & hero compared.
So the Google Nexus One site says there is a Verizon Nexus One coming in the spring. Does that mean if we buy the unlocked version we will be able to use it on Sprint or are there some frequency issues to worry about?
Historically, Sprint only allows Sprint-sold phones on their network. They whitelist the serial numbers.
If you watched the press release, it will not be a "Verizon Nexus One". It is a spot in the "Google Phone Store" for the Droid and Future Android Handsets. Verizon simply doesn't support GSM, given they have a Global Blackberry or two.

I'll go back later and find the text from the live blog that gdgt had going. I am 98% sure they specifically say Morotorla Droid. Hard to make a GSM phone run on a CDMA network. The Global phones typically have 2 radios for that reason.
But then again, I maybe wrong. We do have a CDMA Hero.
Maybe i was wrong. Looked at the Tech specs and saw:
GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz)
Says it has an Edge radio....Nifty I guess...to bad I despise Verizon with every fiber of my being.
Edge is GSM. Verizon uses EVDO like Sprint (in fact Sprint roams on Verizon). The Verizon Nexus One will be a different model for CDMA, like the GSM and CDMA Hero. If you're going to hate, hate Sprint for not allowing outside devices to be activated on their network. They're forcing device lock-in, and inhibiting competition. I also despise Verizon with every fiber of my being.
From http://www.google.com/support/android/bin/answer.py?answer=166507:
We are working hard to provide Nexus One phones optimized for the Verizon network - please stay tuned. The Nexus One for Verizon will not be a GSM device, so it will not be compatible with T-Mobile, AT&T, or other GSM networks.

Summary, 2.1 posibly not coming for 1st Gen phones due to 3D issues
Looks to me like some hardware will be getting swapped come springtime. I would imagine they'll try to keep the form factor as similar as possible, and just put a CDMA radio in the body. Hello CDMA Nexus One. Now, the question really would be, will Sprint allow it on their network? Seems unlikely at first, but possible.
Hey, Motorola did it with the Droid/Milestone (same form factor vs. the different designs of the Hero), so who's to say there isn't a CDMA Nexus One in the works by HTC?

The Hero is most definitely a first gen device. The 2nd gen devices are the ones with 2.x already and the ones with the OMAP from Droid or the Snapdragon. We just don't have the processing power.
HTC has already confirmed that we are getting 2.1. twitter.com/HTCSource is NOT an official HTC account.

Don't hold your breath, they've never done it before. It would be a major shift in strategy for them. They even blacklist serial numbers of their own phones once they've been reported lost or stolen. Those serial numbers can never again be activated on the Sprint network. I see no reason why they would change policy and undercut their own handset sales to momentarily win a continuous "who's newest" cat and mouse game.
All i care about is that 3.7inch screen and that 1ghz snapdragon processor..and once it comes out for verizon the folks at mobile dot files are likely to find meid/esn solutions for it since its an htc device

Plus, you can't get TEP (or whatever Sprint calls their insurance these days) on a non-Sprint phone. TEP was a big selling point for me to go with the Hero (and Sprint) vs. the iPhone, as I came from a rubber-encapsulated "dumb" phone. I can't believe I even considered the iPhone, sigh.

My HTC Touch is CDMA and is labeled as a Touch through Bell, and Rogers GSM Touch is also labeled Touch. I believe the vogue moniker has not been used in any marketing at all and remains an inhouse code name given to it by HTC before official release.
The code name for the GSM version is the Elf and the code name for the CDMA version is Vogue. However, under all carriers, "Touch" is used as the phone name.
This can be confusing when trying to buy one online. You have to be careful and look at the bands the radio supports to make sure you get the right one for your carrier.
