Removing Wing Camera? - Wing, P4350 General

Anyone know how to remove the camera from the wing, someone told me that on the 8125 you can unplug it. can this be done the same way on the wing?
thanks in advance

for sure you can....but why would you want to do that?

He probably wants to use a Wing, but works in a government related job where cameras are not alloud on cell phones for security issues.
Or at least a job with similar rules.
Thats why like blackberry for example, the Pearl is the FIRST camera phone from them, even though they've always been making new phones.

The device should be disassembled before you can remove the camera, but you have to keep in mind that the warranty will be void once you remove the camera by yourself.
If you just want to disable the camera function, i think it can be disabled by editing the registry. what is your purpose in removing the camera anyway?

exactly why i cant have a camera phone. if i could remove it i wont have to leave my new cool phone in my car for half of my day when i need it most.

do a search in the forum for the HTC4350 service manual, i found it while browsing the other day...
You have to dissassemble half of the phone do do it, and remove the "Warrany Void if Removed" sticker while at it.
If you have trouble finding the manual drop me a message and i can email it to you. Cheers

Why is it that the file does not extract?

Are you using winrar to extract it? Because it's probably really a rar file.

well, why don't you just 'remove' the camera by removing all links to it?
-go to the button manager, and disable the camera button.
-go to Windows/Start menu and delete all links to it
if your job requires you not to have a camera phone, how exactly do you prove to them that you don't have a camera on the phone? I guess if you can just give them the phone and say "find the camera" and they are unable to find any links to it, that would be sufficient, right? I'm just wondering how you would prove it to them?
You could also delete Windows\Camera.exe which would render the camera useless if you don't have any camera software installed, right?
I guess it just all depends on how you have to prove you have no camera functionality.

I would find something to cover up the lens with; something semi-permanent, but that I can remove if I wish later. Even maybe just mark over it with a thick black permanent marker, Later if you wanted to use it again, just remove the black with a tiny bit of nail polish remover on a cotton ball.
Or a piece of plastic glued over it, or a piece of tape or etc. etc.

Disabling camera in registry

I searched for this for ages, but haven't found it anywhere here.
So i took a look into my registry and after a while i found it.
HKLM\Software\Drivers\VPD\DisableCamera - change value to 1
there are more devices you can disable there.
I know this is sometimes not an option in some workplaces, but i attached black ducktape from the inside of the cover, disabled it in registry and now i am happy as this is enough. When clicked on camera.exe/in photos and videos or in programs tab/ nothing happen. I hope this helps for some of you.

Why wouldn't it be an option to have a working camera? Why would you want to disable camera?
When company policy restrict having camera on your phone. Or When you need to have it disabled (which is my case). And i found several posts on the forum asking this question.
instead of doing that why dont you just put somting over the camera lense when the battery cover is off ie a black piece of paper or anyting like that when not in use just take it off or move it under teh battery or somting like that. that way no pictures right?

How do you switch off the camera shutter sound??

how do you switch off the camera shutter sound??
It's kinda annoying from time to time. And it is pretty loud, which makes the phone useless inside my lecture room when i want to take a photo of the lecture notes...
Open the camera, tap the screen once to show the toolbar icon, tap it to open the toolbar and tap the gearwheel for settings.
Page 3 sets the shutter sound. Whatever you choose will be remembered.
I might be barking up the wrong tree here, but have you considered looking through the options menu?
The problem is in my page 3, the options are:
Shoot option
Image properties
Effect
Metering mode
No idea then, strange that the option is missing from your device as it's (the option) in the official manual for the Touch HD. I'm using Dutty's 2.6 ROM which has a different camera version to the Stock ROM, I'm pretty sure the option was there on my device before I got the flashing bug, though.
do you have stock rom? my page 3 has shutter sound. metering mode is on page 4

mute your phone , especially during lectures
EDIT:
did not know it's AU version, try overwriting the shutter sound snap.wav in the windows folder
or in the registry "HKLM\Software\HTC\Camera\Common\SourceOfSnapSound"
or replace the camera EXE form a different WWE ROM
I swear, some people just want us to feed them.
Not even mute can silent the camera shutter.... This is so annoying.....
Shutter sound cannot be turned off on aussie version
No need to be nasty guys. The posters problem is that they have purchased an Australian version of the blackstone (I have the same phone). It turns out that Telstra in all their wisdom have ensured that the camera sound cannot be turned off (this is something they are doing with all phones now to stop people taking 'up skirt' pics and such). So even if you turn the sound off, if you go into the camera and use it, the phone sound is turned back on. People have tried to change the registry values for the camera sound and this does nothing. Someone has also managed to find the sound file (which cannot be deleted) and replaced it with another sound, but on soft reset the sound is replaced back to original loud annoying and very embarrassing sound.
So if anyone has any suggestions on how to fix this (without flashing the rom), there will be a lot of appriciative people out there.

Fixed for you
LOL, well I am both of those things, but don't use a phone camera for either
Problem Solved
First things first:
It turns out that in the aussie version the source sound referred to in the registry (snap.wav) does not exist.
There is also other sounds within the windows folder that were part of the ROM (ShutterSound.wav and TimerSound.wav) but changing these had no effect on the camera sound.
Solution:
I managed to find the source of the sounds within a resource file and have successfully changed them to blank waves. The only issue with this work around is that the phone sound is still switched back on (even from silent mode) and stays on until ~20 seconds after shutting down the camera down, this means that if someone calls, emails or sends a message the corresponding sounds will be made. This could be a problem in lectures etc, but I can't think of any other work around. I'll work out how to make a cab for the change and post it here, in the meantime if anyone wants to know how to manually do the change let me know and i'll post it.
The simplest option for this issue would be for Aussie guys to flash a non-Oz ROM and be done with it. Flashing some of the newer ROMs has many benefits, not least of which would be the ability to mute the shutter sound from within the camera app itself.
To my mind, a much more elegant solution.
Camera Sound Silencer
Flashing the phone is obviously the cleanest method, but this option is not available to everyone. I have recommended the HD to people who have had their work purchase it for them (in such cases flashing is not an option). I also know people who will never flash their ROM, and yet want a quick and reversible solution for their problem. I won't be flashing my ROM until the shipped version of mine is available (I got caught with a warranty issue and a different ROM version before). I'm sure this won't happen until I extract my own so flashing isn't the answer for everyone.
Anyway attached is the CAB for silencing the sound. This works for the Australian ROM (not sure about other countries, so if anyone else tries it, let me know if it works). You first need to install the sdkcerts (this ensures you don't get asked if you trust the source each time you start the camera), then install the CamSilencer(AU).
REMEMBER that each time you use the camera the sound on the phone gets switched on, so if you are worried about phone calls etc, then make your alerts blank sounds too.
Any feedback would be good!
AaronC1978 - Any chance of getting a version of this that will work for the Touch Diamond? I've got a Telstra Touch Diamond that's a work phone, so flashing it is out, as you rightly mentioned above.
I've tried installing both your CABs here, but it's broken my camera. When I go into the camera, it works for about 2 seconds (and I can see the picture from the camera on the display), then the display goes black, and I get an error pop up "Failed to initialize camera. Failure to initialize the camera device.". I uninstalled the CamSilencer CAB, and it's back working again now, but (of course) I still have the obnoxious shutter sound.
Having the other phone sounds turned on after I've been using the camera isn't a problem to me, as I very rarely have the phone on silent anyway, and especially not if I'm taking a picture. I just want to get rid of that horrible loud camera sound! There's one thread in the Diamond section from last year that's gone unanswered and abandoned - help me Obi Wan Kenobi - you're my only hope!
Any help would be very much appreciated!
Thanks!

Hey Matto,
I'm no Obi Wan, two weeks ago I knew I could install cabs onto my phone, but that was the extent of it!!
Assuming that a similar file is modified on the diamond I should be able to fix it for you. But first you are going to have to get the file for me. If you don't have it installed you will need to use total commander to be able to get the file:
http://www.ghisler.com/pocketpc.htm
Install that on your phone and open it. In the total commander window, open up the windows folder and scroll down to a file called 'cameraRC.dll' and click it. Now click 'copy/move' in the file menu at the bottom of the screen and click click 'tree' on the popup and select eg your storage card. Now click copy on the popup.
Now connect your phone to your pc and move the cameraRC.dll file onto your pc (if you cant see it, make sure that you have "show hidden files" enabled on your file options on your computer).
When that's done, upload the file here and i'll take a look for you.
PM me if you have any trouble.
Hi Aaron,
Sounds like I'm about 2 weeks behind you then! I've uploaded and attached the CameraRC.dll file to this post here as per your beaut instructions - if you wouldn't mind taking a look, I'd really appreciate it. I'm sure all the other Aus TD users would as well!
Thanks for all your help - this has been driving me mad!
Thanks!
Matto
Hey Matto,
I'm glad the instructions were clear, hopefully this CAB fixes the Diamond sound. You still need to make sure you have the sdkcerts file installed first. Also make sure you have uninstalled the HD CamSilencer (which I'm sure you have since it muffed up your camera). Don't stress if this doesn't work, because it is the right file and it just means I've done something wrong on my end (can't test if it works). Let me know how it goes.
Aaron
Hey Aaron,
You're a legend, my friend! Works a treat. Takes away both the focus zoom/lock sound, as well as the obnoxious shutter sound! I already had the sdkcerts installed from the previous attempt, and had uninstalled the old HDCamSilencer.CAB the other day, as you had guessed. Copied the new one across, installed it, rebooted the phone and voila - no sound!
Thanks very much for your help with this - very much appreciated! I'll let you announce it to the guys over in the TD forums, since it's your work and only right that you should get the kudos for it! I'm sure all the Telstra TD users will be very appreciative!
Again, thanks very much for your time and effort into doing this for me! Well done!
Thanks!
Matto

Tmobile USA 1st day minor problems

So far, mostly a positive experience switching from my HTC Advantage. As expected, the capacitive thing will take a few days/weeks to adjust to, but I've found that a light touch does wonders.
Thanks to the xda-people & searching, I've found solutions to many problems I had (like tcpmp crashing till I got the correct cab). A do have a small list I'm looking for help on that I have not found a solution for.
(if I missed it in searching, sorry - please send me a link!)
- Automatic Phone profiles. I used to use SPB's Phone Suite, which isn't compatible with 6.5. I tried Phoneweaver last night and it worked very well - but is crashing all over the place today. Just sent them an email. Is anyone using an automatic volume adjuster with no problems?
- Speaking of crashing, getting the &*@%& battery lid off is a problem. Probably needs to work in a bit, but I can't do it without a mini-flat screwdrive, and I already put one scrach into the back of the case They just couldn't put it someone more accessible?
- Mentioned in another thread, but I can't seem to find any software that remaps any of the buttons (especially volume buttons). I've read that Voldpad & AEButtons work for other people, but nothing working here yet.
- My other big crashing problems seems centered around contacts. Adding them to my favorites is causing lock-ups about half the time, but when I reboot the changes took. Editing a contact (say adding a ring-tone) is also locking up the phone when I save/go back.
- Synching: probably related to contacts above. 1st synch works well. Afterwords, it is getting hung on contacts as well. If I delete the partnership is synch ok again the first time.
I think that's my big ones for now. I'm only 1 day in, and yesterday was pretty busy so I hope to have more time today to do some installs & play more.
Thanks for any help!!
Phil
PS - I didn't install any Freecell or Sudoku yet. I'm used to VGA. Anyone have a recommendation on ones that work very well with the HD2 (I didn't even google this yet, but thought I'd ask)

I hated the battery cover, until I found an easy way of lifting it up without tools.
use your right hand, and place your index finger to leverage the phone (face down) at the bottom of the phone near your buttons. (make sure you grip the back of the phone too just in case it tends to fly off)
use your left hand and have the thumb push up against the battery cover on the side with the indent in it. you should be able to lift your battery cover off without problems.
after 1-2 tries, it should be easier to lift off. I like the security knowing that it's not going to fall off, but it's really tight to get off at 1st.
Sounds similar to the video I saw on youtube. Time permitting, I plan on opening & closing the lid many times today (using screwdriver if needed) to loosen it up so I can take it off when needed.
----
In other news, I'm not using a screen-protector (yet) - need to read the thread on the protectors. I'm not too worried about scratches, but the fingerprint on the screen is worse then I thought it would be.
I'm carrying around a small microfiber now. Might have to find a small one in a sleeve or something to carry permanently. I have glasses, so I probably should have one handy anyway.
---
Next, a minor problem with Resco Pocket Player that I just read a solution to, but thought I'd post it for anyone else - you can't click on the screen to change settings in options. To get around it, bring up a keyboard with arrows & use those and enter keys instead.
--------
Finally - on the Sense Photo & Music tabs - is there an easy way I'm missing to specify and/or limit directories to look at? For now, I disabled both tabs in favor of Resco Photo Manager & Conduits Pocket Player. I did read about a hack to make Resco Photo work in sense, but haven't tried it yet.

Thats got to be one of the best typos' I've seen, I'd rather not shove my HD2 in someone though!
I'm currently reading on the Tmobile US forums about the problems with Messaging causing problems (although I've only seen it with Contacts so far). But I don't use email messaging much, just SMS (don't know if it's the same subsystem).
Anyway, going to try the suggestions of switching from HTC messaging to standing messaging (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=556614) and see that is my contacts/synch problem. I wanted to post it in case any lurkers have a similar problem. Will try to post later if this helps.
yes sense messaging causes lots of freezes if you get lots of texts saved and having swype enabled agravates the problem.
ive had no issues anywhere else or with contacts

As for your last point: At least on the Photo tab, you can specify the Folder shown up: Open up HTC Album and go to the folder you want. Then hit Menu and select as Favorite. Then this folder will only be shown in Photo tab.
Just saw this: http://pocketnow.com/software-1/bug-hd2s-sense-may-freeze-with-contact-favorites
Sure enough, one of my favorites (ie, my wife) has a lot of notes & doesn't have the xml stuff. Will try the fix tomorrow.
auto speaker?
anyone else having their speaker turn on automatically during a phone call
That is one I'm not having, HectikDroid.
I did reply to another thread about calls that went straight to voice mail.
Still not connecting to weather serivce either (yet another thread with little replies).
Actually, most frustrating part is trying to find out if others are having similar problems or it's it me (either bad phone or accidental messed up setting or the like).
Glad to see pocketnow posting about the big contact problem I had.

[Q] Camera and SD Card

Sup, ppl?
Hey, I have a new X8 phone (3 weeks old) and I have a major issue with my camera from day 1!!! It's all glitchy and blurry, with wrong lighting and i can't take pictures at all. Sometimes when I repair the update with PC Companion or SEUS it gets to work again, but after using the phone for some time, it bugs again, especially after playing Angry Birds (even for just once!!!). I have never rooted my phone, it's all original.
I had it repaired by the service center, they said they just ran a software update (and I had the latest version) and I don't know how all my apps were still on the phone (I never manage to do this, everytime I repair the update I lose all my apps, how can I keep them?). I searched the web for several hours and haven't found anyone with my problem. I have posted question on SE support forums and on their Facebook page, but no one seems to help me. I think I'm having this unit replaced.
Another thing is that I formatted my SD card, and I thought I could get the original content again, but I was wrong. I had the "music" folder backed up, but I don't have the "media" folder. I lost some of the alarms (like the "multi alarm" one) and the notifications. Can someone upload the media folder for me please?
Thanks for all the help.

What did u mean blurry? Maybe this phone does no come with an auto focus camera that why when you take picture will blur. Correct me if i'm wrong.
It's not exactly blurry, but it look horrible. For example if you edit a picture and you start messing with hue, saturation or color balance. The more you mess, the worse it gets. The display shows an bad colored looking picture and taking pictures does not work. Tried searching everywhere but can't find anyone with similar problem.
Can you post some photos? The best would be if you could put the phone fg on a table and take a photo without moving it at all. Cause to me it looks like either the camera itself is the issue or something wrong with software, if you're saying that when you mess with settings it gets even worse.

It's not that I can mess with the settings, the camera app doesn't have ANY settings to mess. The messing with settings exampled I used was about using a photo editor and try messing with the color levels or hue/saturation of any picture. My camera is displaying a screwed up image as if there was some color filter applied to it, someting that would react really poorly to lighting. Just like if you picked up a 16 million color picture with many gray colors (variant colors) and you converted it to like 256 colors, it would look really poor. That's the image my camera shows.
And did you try others apps for camera? Maybe there's something wrong with it. If not - go for warranty

It happens to any camera app.
I'm an IT guy and I know sometimes unexplainable things happen with hardware/software. Today when I woke up, when I was going to put the phone in the pocket for leaving home, it slipped and fell to the ground scattering parts all over (cover and battery). After rassembling it i thought: "Wtf? I'll try the camera!". And believe or not: it was working PERFECTLY. And is perfect to this very moment. Some problems just don't have a reasonable explanation.
Original SD Content
Now the only missing piece is the original SD content, which I happened to wipe out unadvertedly. I tried some undelete tools, but none found the data, and I probably already overwrote all the data with many backups that I made.
So, if anyone could be very kind to post me the media folder contents (with the alarms and everything) and also the pictures that came in the images folder I guess?
Thanks, ppl.

shutup-----

how could samsung screw up the camera THIS badly..

besides unnecessary parental control put in place on the camera, like battery limitations, forcing your music to stop when its loaded, and inability to function when mediascanner is running, theyve also, and made a unmutable shutter sound and auto focus sound, and removed the option to adjust saturation, sharpness, and brightness.. and in the video camera, removed the the ability to pause the video, now you have to straight out stop it and take another one.
why did they do this you might ask? because they added extremely watered down picture editor, and video clip editor. and they somehow think that adding these after picture/video editors was such a good idea, that they should just remove them from the camera entirely.. wtf samsung?
now what i wanna know is what WE can do to fix this? is it possible to take these settings from the galaxy s1's camera app, and add them in to the s2's? the camera apps are extremely similar
EDIT: a solution?
i really think these things can be fixed, maybe not adding the saturation, sharpness, and brightness back, that seems like alot of hard work, and i guess it isnt TOO hard to edit the picture afterwards.. but i think removing the 'parental controls' put in place, is simply a matter of deleting that area of the app's code. i wonder if adding the ability to pause the video would be hard, it seems like a simple enough thing to do.. but i dont fully understand how one would go about doing this..
for SGS1 owners, do you guys remember Fr4gg0r? he created a hacked camera app that removed the battery limitation, music from stopping when camera loads, and even added the ability to use the hardware lockkey as a camera shutter button!, and he added a thumbnail of recently taken picture in the bottom right hard corner (which we now see built in to the sgs2). really amazing work! however i spoke with him, and he doesnt plan to get the sgs2, but i wonder if we looked at his changelog from the origional apk to the modded, if then we could just make the same mods to the s2..
can anyone a little more knowledgeable than me give me their thoughts?
SGS [APP] Hacked Camera.apk <- link to his thread for original hacked camera app
Modding the camera app is very difficult since it's closed source. Might be able to take the AOSP camera app and hook the driver up, but that's hard too... amount of work depends on how good the camera driver meshes with the AOSP camera app.. I think?
I've never tried to do anything with the camera so hopefully someone with more knowledge of it can pitch in!
As to your complaint about the settings... do you really sit there before taking a picture on a phone camera and fiddle with contrast/brightness settings? I wish I had your dedication to taking good pictures!
I'm guessing suspending other applications when the camera's running is to preserve resources. I don't think I've ever been listening to music when I've used my phone as a camera. I don't agree with taking away flexibility but I think the percentage of people impacted isn't going to be high.
I can understand your concern but I don't think these restrictions justify saying they screwed up the camera badly.. maybe if they used a crappy sensor, but judging from the photos and video's I've seen posted quality looks very acceptable!
the reason i expect u cant use camera whilst media scanner is running is due to the fact samsungs internal memory, where pics are stored by default, is mounted like an SD card... also ive only ever had media scanner running once re-mounting from mass storage or when turning phone on... although ive never actually tested this senario as my phone is always on and storage mounted...
neither of those issues are a problem for me though... at least ive never encountered them during usage...

i know removing the battery limit requires deleting some lines of code, same goes for it killing music, and forcing a shutter sound and focus sound, but would it be incredibly hard work to add the ability to pause a video, as i find this really necessary when taking videos

I fully agree about pausing a video recording. I've often used that feature on my SGS, and find it very puzzling, and annoying, that they would eliminate it. Quite odd.
i really think these things can be fixed, maybe not adding the saturation, sharpness, and brightness back, that seems like alot of hard work, and i guess it isnt TOO hard to edit the picture afterwards.. but i think removing the 'parental controls' put in place, is simply a matter of deleting that area of the app's code. i wonder if adding the ability to pause the video would be hard, it seems like a simple enough thing to do.. but i dont fully understand how one would go about doing this..
for SGS1 owners, do you guys remember Fr4gg0r? he created a hacked camera app that removed the battery limitation, music from stopping when camera loads, and even added the ability to use the hardware lockkey as a camera shutter button!, and he added a thumbnail of recently taken picture in the bottom right hard corner (which we now see built in to the sgs2). really amazing work! however i spoke with him, and he doesnt plan to get the sgs2, but i wonder if we looked at his changelog from the origional apk to the modded, if then we could just make the same mods to the s2..
can anyone a little more knowledgeable than me give me their thoughts?

screw camera up??? except for the battery and music "issue" in my opinion this is one of the best cameras on a mobile, i tried many different modes and the pictures are quite good ))
unfortunately we cannot always have everything in just one gadged )))
well we may not be able to have everything, but i wont stop until i get some results.. ive been talking to a clever developer lately, whos on board to help me modify this app
I've started modding the camera app for battery level etc. Will take a look more today
These mods shouldn't be hard to implement and there is no closed source when it comes to android. We have apktool and smali / baksmali, we don't need source code from Samsung for this.
