Garmin Mobile XT with Internal GPS on Athena - Advantage X7500, MDA Ameo General

Hi All
I have read on the Internet (pdamobiz)that Garmin Mobile XT works on the DopodU1000!!
Is there someone out there that could direct me to get it Going on my Advantage or have done it
I have played with the GPSProxy but no luck so far
Thanks in advance

I think... I'm not sure... they did it using the software which is for Dodop D810 and changing the "device id".
But looks like Garmin is prepared to launch the Mobile XT for all PDAs with internal GPS.
That could be a great new. I love Garmin program... I owned a Garmin c660 and I sold it to by my X7500 but I love the Garmin program.
Here is the news in english:
http://www.nationmultimedia.com/2007/08/10/technology/technology_30044428.php
And... after learning to read in thai I got a URL to the oficial site of Garmin in Thailand where you can download Mobile XT in Thai for PPC with internal GPS... I'm downloading now and I will give it a try.
Here: http://www.garminthailand.com/download.php?PHPSESSID=d95de9661325e20620a7c00b3c7b4048
Moderators... as far as I know this is a legal download site owned by Garmin... if not just edit the post.

Navigon Mobile Navigator 4

Hi all mates!
I'd like to open a thread to discuss about this piece of software!
I have to buy one among tomtom3, destinator 3 and Navigator 4 so I think it's good to open this thread to share any comments and infos and any other thoughts concerning theese sat-nav programs!
Cya!!!
Forget Destinator for a start. We have a review of the previous version of Navigon here and TomTom3 here.
I have myself check out different navigation systems and have concluded that Navigon Mobile Navigator 4 is the most sophisticated one. But I must concede, it is expensive, they had delays in bringing the software to market, they have already made an upgrade available (presumably there were issues with the new software), and they have not managed to put the demo on their website for about the last 3 months. In addition, I have not heared about bluetooth receiver compatibility. It seems that not everything is going smoothly. By the way, the company producing this software was just taken over.
There is also a POI handler available (in English) at: http://www.navigating.de
Check out this German site for a review (in German): http://www.pocket.at/navigation/navivergleich.htm
But I still believe it is the most sophisticated navigation system available for PPC, I am just wondering whether something simpler would do for me.

Why? I have read some review of destinator and it seems as simpler as Tom Tom!

I planned to buy the Fortuna clip-on gps bluetooth: so do u think with navigon it's not compatible?
Btw, i can purchase the navigon bundle with his bluetooth + Tmc receiver!
Any other thoughts?
Thx u all!

Destinator has a great deal of issues and it's latest version is no match for any of your other options, Consider CoPilot, TomTom or Navigon as your top three choices. Others worth considering are Deluo Routis, also sold as Socket MyNavigator and Intellinav amongst others.
I have found that navigon doesn't support custom POIs! is that right?
Another thing: a little very pleased feature in destinator is the possibility to read the phone number of certain POI like restaurant, bar, ecc; so the question is: has any of the other competitors the ability to do this?
I believe that with the POI handler Navigon does support custom POIs. Check the link I indicated above, it is in English.
Ok, that's right for the POIs, but for what concern telephone number?
Does anyone knows something?
no one?
I am currently using the Navigon older software 1.5 which also has RDS-TMC together with my MDAII .The TMC function is really useful and works in Germany, Belgium , UK - all these countries I have personally tested and have been rerouted and saved several times. The POI included in Navigon also work well some are already allocated but you can download more also some from POI handler and you this service you have to pay a yearly fee. ( for speed camera etc)
The advantages of Navigon are that you get the whole of Europe and the TMC function and no other extra costs except upgrades. Up to now I am very happy especially now since I also have a official carkit for the MDA II. I laugh at all my friends with thier expensive navi systems in their cars. Navigon , Tom tom etc are really not expensive if you compare them with car built in systems
I looked at Tom Tom but found the maps more clearer ( for myself ) Tom Tom uses teleAlas while the Navigon uses Navitech . The older software Navigon did not show your speed but the new one Navigon 4 does. Tom Tom also does have TMC but this needs to be downloaded via GPRS and adds to the cost.
Today ( WooHoo !!! ) I have recieved my software & hardware upgrade to Navigon|4 and as I am travelling these weeks and I will install it in the next few weeks.
I only opted for the upgrade as I can now use the bluetooth GPS reciever when I go cycling or walking.
Funny, when I was making my choice it was between Alturion & Navigon. I chose Navigon as all the right hardware was ready for The MDA II. I have never regreted buying navi software.
Thx rafiki, and remember: I'd like to read here ur thoughts about this navi software! Of course, take it easy, do it when u can! I'll appreciate it very much!
Any news about extracting\reading phone numbers and any other type of infos from the electronic maps? :?:
WooHoo !!!!
A really good piece of software! I installed the navigon 4 yesterday and used all day today. Boy am i happy.
I got:-
Bluetooth ( modular with TMC)
I can see my Speed, atlitude, got a compass , est time of arrival , duration, inclication of road,
3D or bird eye view
perfect sound with my MDA II carkit with mute ( on software)
Adjustable volume
I can type in destinations or touch on the map via touch screen
I van also use voice command for stored destinations
All in all I am very happy!!!!!!
By the way any one know how I can see which version of windows I have on My MDAII ? Pocket PC 2002 or mobile 2003 ? :?:
Thx Rafiki!!!
I think i'm gonna buy this software!
@ Jag!
Forgot to mention I work for an Italian Company!
Navigon comes in standard in 7 languages.
Here is a hand book you can download from Navigon in 7 languages.
http://www.navigon.de/downloads/consumer_products/Short_Manual_7_languages.pdf
also if you visit the site there is a lot of info in English , including screen shots. You can also order via the site.
good luck

English GPS On Softbank X01HT Hermes in Tokyo

Ok, I am researching a way to bring an English or "Romanji" map with completly working GPS to my Hermes. I have looked hard all over the internet and GPS is kind of a new thing to me. So I have purchased a cool new Holux GPSlim 236 Bluetooth GPS Receiver(SiRF III) so, everyone has installed on their PocketPC MSN Search Live (really cool little google earth program). The problem is, is when you search in Japan, everything is all in Japanese-O characters. Now, there is nothing wrong with Japanese.... if you know Japanese.... but if you are a crazy Canadian who can not find his way and are really friggen busy to learn how to read and write in Hiragana and Katakana right now this is of no use to us. So I went searching. I think I have found the only available PPC map that is in English "Romaji" characters that us crazy "Gaijin" can read. Ok, so, the only available map that is in "Romaji" is located here. Upupdown Company http://uud.info/en/navi/ $100.00 created the only available Japan map in English that I have found BUT it is only a Garmin Mapsource compatible map so you also have to purchase the Garmin Mobile 10 https://my.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=138&pID=420 for $200.00 and it comes with a bluetooth receiver that looks really good, plus it lasts for 20 hour? (I have a hard time beleiving that, but thats what it says!) Anyways, I beleive if you have those two products then you can have a working English gps system on your hermes. Plus you have to download the fit4cat Hermes Tweaker and enable your phone to have gps in the first place.. and voila....
K... this is why I have written this message.. this way is expensive... does anyone know of a cheaper way to do this?? I just do not want to learn Japanese-O right now.....

Garmin Mobile 10 Won't work on the Hermes but...
** MESSAGE FROM GARMIN **
Hi Joe,
Thanks for contacting Garmin.
Garmin Mobile 10 does support MapSource maps.
Unfortunately, Garmin mibile 10 does not support HTC Hermes.
** MESSAGE FROM GARMIN **
Ok, so.... Garmin Mobile 10 does not work, but I think that Garmin Mobile 20 works for the Hermes, but the only stupid problem about Garmin Mobil 20 is that it costs friggen $300.00 ... so.. we must buy:
Garmin Mobile 20 - $299.00
Romaji (English) Tokyo Map - $120.00
This is getting expensive... is there anone who knows of a cheaper way to do things?.... Frick this is expensive...
Try this:
http://www011.upp.so-net.ne.jp/mametaro/index-e.html
It's a free Romaji map. I use it with my Garmin E-Trex Legend handheld GPS. I haven't looked into one for my X01HT yet but maybe it'll work since I use it with Mapsource on the desktop.

hi joe,
haha... glad to help another Joe user.
It is bollocks that Garmin's maps cannot be used as I am using it right now as we speak.
I have some good news for you. You can get your GPS236 Holux with Garmin Mapsource maps if you do the following.
- Install GPS Proxy/GPS Gate
- Install Garmin Que 2.9 (latest version I think)
- Get PatchIMG to merge in the Mapsource .img map provided to you by the vendor. If it is in in gmapsupp.img, all you need to do is copy it into the /Garmin folder of your PPC.
More instructions can be gleaned from http://www.malsingmaps.com , once you get it working, go buy that map and start using GPS in Tokyo

Best GPS Software for Touch Pro 2 Owners - Garmin Mobile XT

Garmin Mobile XT for Windows Mobile, Ver. 5.00.20w With North America Maps.
Works Great
Here are your Garmin Screenshots: SEE BELOW
Is there a North American Version?
no way I'm going to spend $99.99 on a navigation solution that requires me to switch out my SD card every time I want to navigate.

I use Tomtom and i dare say it is tons better than anything else i have tried, i have evem carried out the geo-photo hack and can now geo-tag photos and navigate to them
version in use is 7.9196 with version 8 maps
TomTom Nav 7 hands down, the best IMO. Their support kinda sucks but if you really want to get it working on your TP2, you can do it, even with TT6 maps. I love it, I dread the day when I have to get a new device and I can't use TomTom with it. I will be updating my maps soon because it's just worth it.
I've had Garmin XT installed for only about a week. It does what it should. I wish it had TTS though. Telenav had TTS but I didn't like the fees since I got Garmin for free.
OK You wanna go to war, I take you to war
I will begin this week testing the major Windows Mobile GPS Applications.

It is possible to install garmin xt to your own sd card. I've been using it for about 3 weeks now since I don't want to pay telenav $9.99 a month. But I miss hearing the street names.

How about Telus Navigator, Google Maps, amAze GPS, and navit.
I doubt they will stack up to Garmin or TT7 but they cost less (minus Telus Nav) and may as well be tested. We could be surprised

Try iGO8 - it works great on our TP2
Garmin XT has so many bugs I don't use it anymore, so everyone has his own favourite.
btw: Used Garmin for cycling...
Garmin can definitely be copied onto another SD card. I've been using it on my 8gb for a while now and I love it. I really do miss TTS though.

How about a digital camera shot of the phone? Or would that not work well enough?
Give me some time
Give me some time, I will get some softwre that will work and take screenshots for TP2,
I will test everything listed
Need more time, Not going to put a date on this, however, I will keep up with the thread.

Ok, sounds great. I look forward to reading your reviews. If I find other solutions, shall I list them?
I'm a Garmin XT user...
And I like Garmin XT for its simplicity - I don't need a bunch of 3D buildings and wasteful processor cycles for very needless eye candy.
With that said, I have not used iGo8 or TomTom - I'm a simple Garmin Mobile XT user. I can use Garmin XT while listening to music in my car without a skip... that is what's important to me.
Screenshots as requested...
I run Garmin XT on my phone, on my own 16GB card, as I have for years. Something to note - you can update the maps from other Garmin products as well.
Some of the issues I have with the OTHER GPS programs is the tendency to be very Europe-centric. TomTom 7 does not appear to offer North America maps, though I believe people are using TomTom 6 maps. Nav N Go iGO8 looks interesting, but having a map of Paris does me no good in Toronto, Canada.
Come to think of it .... ARE there any (non Networks in Motion TELUS Navigator type $10/month) Text to Speech options for Canada?

[Q] Garmin Mobile XT 5.86.10

I have been trying to find the best GPS software to use on my phone. I have tried all the different kinds of apps (Garmin, NDrive 10, iGo…..) but found that Garmin seems to be the best with the maps it uses. The only problem is that the Garmin Mobile XT v5.00.20w is a bit old for most people.
I have been thinking about why Garmin stopped updating the Garmin Mobile XT software. I realized that Garmin is only updating the Garmin Asus Nüvifone M10 – which is actually running on Windows Mobile 6.5.3
Therefore, I wanted to update my Garmin Mobile app to the version that is being used on the Nüvifone M10 so I can also have junction view and 3D views and all the new cool things.
Anyhow, I found the new ROM files for the Nüvifone M10 and even the contents of the ROM which include the updated Garmin Mobile app itself. I tried so many things to make the thing work but end up with an error that won’t load the app. I thought it would be as easy by just copying the new files over from the Nüvifone M10 ROM, but I was wrong.
Does anyone think they can help me with this project? I don’t think it would be a hard thing but I just can’t figure out how to make the new Garmin Mobile XT app to work.
I have a Windows Mobile 6.5.3 phone (Samsung Omnia 2) and would love to have Garmin Mobile XT v 5.86.10 working on my phone
I would really appreciate anyone’s help. Thank you so much!
Great idea! Sorry I'm not able to help much. Will help to test once you get it working though.
+ 1..
i second that..

We need a bit more than just the exe and some dll ... as long as the registry part is missing there's not much we can do. A link to the that Nüvifone M10 ROM you are talking about could be helpful.

wrong. every copy of mobile xt must be activated. maps are free, except for city navigator.
GArmin mobile xt 5.0.20 has to be purchased and activated at a garmin center. dont give me any of that garmin is giving mobile xt as a free app crap.
all garmin app comes free either with a nuvi pna or a nuvi phone. without their device the only app available for wm is mobile xt WHICH IS A COMMERCIAL PRODUCT. so jj62mtp, get your facts straight.

too bad, woulda been nice if this was possible
Anything is possible!! Don’t let people discourage you. Everyone has the right to their feelings and ideas. That doesn’t mean that I care about their feelings and ideas. Plus, people do pay for the maps (City Navigator) and yet just want something up to date to run them on.

Wrong, the software Garmin Mobile XT is free available and is automatically activated when you buy a Garmin GPS Receiver.
Garmin Mobile XT can not be bought seperated.
And maps, except Open Street Maps, are not free. Either you buy them or u are eligble for a free mapupdate.
Btw. Garmin MobileXT v5.20 is doing what it should do, navigating.
JCV and 3D Buildings is a nice to have, but if ur device is not powerful, then it won't work
i think one thing we can all agree on is that it would be in garmin's best interest to release a new version for our phones. if there's a market for the product, fill that niche. who knows, maybe they are working on it. but im not the type of person just to buy a new phone for a new app. i'd rather use what i have, and im sure there are plenty of people like me. garmin should cater to the customer, not the other way around.
I figured out how to solve this problem but I need a bit of help. Can someone go through the Que.exe file and see what files are needed to run with the application? DDRAW.dll
COREDLL.dll

commctrl.dll

Thank you so much for your help. I found all the *.dll files except for protobuf.dll
However, I find the dll files in a folder content but without a actual file called *.dll
Does anyone know which file is the *.dll file or what I should do to get the above *.dll files from the folder?
