Is it possible to unlock the CID (USPL) via the SD card method? My device's USB connection doesn't work (I posted another topic about it) and the computer doesn't see it at all when it's connected, although it charges the battery.
I'd like to flash a WM6 ROM onto the device, but it needs to be CID unlocked first. Can someone help?
Is your PC firewall blocking the connection. This happened to me with Windows Onecare. If the PC charges the battery through USB there should be nothing wrong with the port.
here is a link to my other post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=327504
As I say there, my firewall is disabled, but either way works with my other WM5 (and WM6) phones. So does the USB cable.

No, USPL needs activesync connection to work.
thanks for the info, pof
Is there something you might suggest to fix my USB problem? The USBkiller program referenced in my other thread didn't do anything either.

Hi,
I've been reading through xda-developers.com site and it states that I have to use serial cable for all updates and USB will not work. Now inside teh newsgroup I've read that some people used cradle and USB connections for updates. Can somebody clarify please.
Also I have just USB cable (no cradle), is it important for updates if it can be done via USB?
Greg
You only need a serial cable if you plan to use the XDA Manipulator to make modifications to your XDA.
If you plan to do regular ROM upgrades using the Upgrade Utility, then a USB cable will do fine.
Having a cradle is not mandatory. If your ActiveSync connection works with the cable, then your upgrades will work as well. I have done several upgrades using a regular USB cable and not the cradle and they have worked fine.
Thanks,
I'm not sure what you were refering to as XDAManipulator. All I want to do is to download configured ROM from Jeff's kitchen and update my device. I'll be able to do it through USB, right?
Thanks again,

Yes you will.
Thanks,
Last question (I hope) ;-)
After Jeff's update will I be able to flash back to T-Mobile original ROM in case I'd need warranty or something?

I've had some issues in this department. I originally had PPC2002. I flashed to WM2003 using the SD Card method. I then wanted to downgrade to PPC2002 and I tried it using the Upgrade Utility way (USB and executable file) but this method failed. I was, however, successful in reflashing to PPC2002 using the SD Card method.

Any links about how you do all that stuff with "SD card method". I don't have SD yet but I'll soon get one but I have limited knowledge of the process.

I posted a message giving detailed instructions on how to do this. Unfortunately it is heavily dependant on the accompanying screenshots which I hosted on my desktop machine at home. As I have still not hooked up the machine, you will probably not be able to make much sense of my writeup, but here you go anyway:

Hey gang,
I purchased my SX56 off of ebay, and it was running Windows Mobile 2002. It was a Rogers AT&T Rom, unlocked at the time.
After some careful reading, I decided to upgrade to the Windows Mobile 2003 ROM that Rogers was offerring for free. I downloaded it, installed it, and all was well until I discovered that the SIM was now locked.
Read up some more on the site here, and found that all I had to do was to load either the Special Edition Rom, or one from a kitchen, which I found at http://lumpistefan.dyndns.org/. Apparently, this would allow me to use one of the unlocking tools, and then I could upgrade again to WM2003.
I cooked up a nice ROM for the image, downloaded it, installed it, went through the instructions perfectly.
PROBLEMS...
Once I performed the necessary reset on the SX56, I had an error on the device. "Unrecognized card" it says. "Enter the name of the device driver for this card". Says this about "Unknown card in socket 1". Huh? I click cancel. I'm then sitting at the desktop on the device.
When inserting the device into the cradle/charger, I receive a similarily alarming error, which says "USB Device Not Recognized - One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it." When I click the balloon to learn more on this, I'm taken to the device properties, which shows there's no driver loaded for the device. I perform a search on the pc for a driver, and I come up with nothing.
I'm at a complete loss, and have no ideas on where to go, what to try. I really don't wanna be stuck with a useless device, and I can't update the ROM on it until I can get it to connect to the USB. The error on the pc is bad enough about the driver, but I'm more worried about the error on the device itself. Could this be a driver issue there? Is the USB connection crapped out on the actual device?
Any thoughts are MOST appreciated! I'm technically inclined, but XDA's are a new realm to me.

Which version of active sync are you using? Most of the new ROMs require ActiveSync 3.71. You can get it for free at the Microsoft site....

You normaly could make an update of the rom via SD-Card.
This should work...

I had exactly the same problem using the same cooked Rogers. Now my XDA is dead. I only get to the bootloader now. No OS!!!!!!!!!
Even stranger, when I took out my SIM and put it back into my old phone, the SIM is blocked on my service provider (FIDO). I'm going to have to phone them to get a PUK code generated, which will likely cost me $25.
I guess the only thing I can do is to purchase an SD reader/writer and try to load a ROM from the card. - I've been looking around at all the posts in here on how to do that, but there's no mention of my Bootloader version, which is 5.22. - I really don't want to follow instructions on an older bootloader version and make things worse.
Is there a link or something to a DETAILED instruction set for loading a ROM via bootloader?
Thanks for all replies!
I have had the same problem with Rogers rom and Kitchen , a week ago and wrote about it to LumpiStefan. I saved my old Rom to SD CARD via XDA Tools and Card Reader before.
and after errors in cooked ROM, i restored old one.
So now i have only original Rogers ROM that working fine, and more stable than T-Mobile 4.0.1.16
After purchasing an SD card reader/writer, I followed the instructions to the letter on using the bootloader to load a ROM image, and everything is fine now.
One weird problem though is that I still can't use the Rogers ROM I got from them without having the phone locked, and I can't use the Rogers rom from the kitchen, without receiving the "card error in slot 1" error. For now, I'll stick with the 2002 ROM's.

Hello Stefan,
Same problem, unfortunately I did not read this thread before just installing this ROM. Stefan, it seems that it is setting up the device as a non phone edition device, it puts in bluetooth, turns off the phone completely, turns off the Backlight completely-even if you turn it on it does not work. It is as if someone took the Rogers Rom I gave you and installed it on a PPC with bluetooth\WiFi but no phone and recreated the ROM, very strange. Now I need to buy a card reader as well, since it does not recognize my card or device. Please pull this ROM, immediately.

Hi there,
I have a MDA Compact III from T-Mobile, but I upgraded it to WM6 from o2 in former times.
Now the USB-Connection is broken (don´t ask me why - I don´t know) and I want to send the Artemis to my provider for repairing or changing (btw loading is working by USB, but Windows Vista, XP etc. wont identified the Artemis - tested on serveral PCs).
Because of the guarantee I have first to downgrade the o2-OS to the original T-Mobile-OS. I´ve tried it by SD-Card, but I doesn´t work.
The bootloader shows IPL 3.04.0001 and SPL 3.04.0000. As I understand it, I have to use first Artemis_USPL, but without a working USB-Connection it wont work.
Can someone help me?
Many thanks in advance.
I have still the same problem. Any ideas yet?
Just an idea.but have you tried to activesync your device thru bluetooth and installing the Artemis uspl and then flashing your rom via SD card?
Edit .
Sorry mate, tested it on my Artemis and doesn't work.
I'm having the same problem here.
When i connect it to my pc it starts charging but there is no connection with the pc
Someone knows a fix?

Yes mate. The Artemis was connected but didn´t synchronize.
And bluetooth can't be used to flash

No,it can't ,but,what i had in mind was this:
What if you extracted the ruu-signed.nbh from the USPL app renamed it to arteimg.nbh and put it in the root of your sd card which you then put in your Artemis.
Now create a bluetooth activesync connection with your PC "It's a ***** but it can be done" ,run the USPL app and once it reaches the point where the Dos window "Black screen" exits you manually enter bootloader and run the arteimg.nbh.
Do you think it might work?
Edit:
If this works then you will have a CID unlocked Artemis and you'll be able to flash any rom thru the SD card.
With "ruu-signed.nbh" you mean an original t-mobile-rom?

Doesn´t work.
Just purchsed the Orange M3100 phone but I cant sync it on my pc. Ive downloaded Windows Mobile Device Center driver for Vista 64bit. It doesnt pick up my phone. Please help, ive googled etc.
Running WM 5.
In settings>connections>usb to pc, uncheck "advanced network functionality". That might work...
Cheers...
also make sure its pluged directly into your pc (one of the ports on the back) not though a usb hub, thats the prob i had syncing my 3100
thanks ultramag69. it seemed to work
now can i use FREE HTC HERMES UNLOCKER v3a by pof using vista?
the instructions talk about active sync and windows xp but no vista
sorry but ive only used this phone for few hours
you can use the sd card method as described in its readme.txt that comes with it
thats the problem I dont have a sdcard yet. Just thought the XP instructions may work using Vista and WMDC.
I believe you need to update to the latest version of WMDC through my reading but you may want to confirm that. If you do a search through the wiki using terms like "vista activesync hermes" you should get a hit as it has been extensively talked about. Also please make sure you check what radio rom you have as unlocking the hermes will downgrade the radio rom to 1.16.00.10. MAKE SURE YOU KNOW WHAT RADIO YOU HAVE SO YOU AN PUT IT BACK...
If you want to use the sd card method (I find it safer than from the pc) then you need an sd card 2 Gb or smaller as though the OS can read a higher card the bootloader (the software in the hermes used to flash) can't. Don't forget to Hard SPL your hermes after you unlock it, I didn't need to do this but you can check by putting a sim from another carrier into your hermes. However, Hard SPL is a MUST. You can get instructions from here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=296722
Sd card method on page 116, post 1160. It has all the apps needed to flash both through pc and sd card.
Then you're good to go for flashing a new os.Look into each os on your own, read the post and make up your own mind, DON'T ASK WHICH IS THE BEST..... There is no "best" for everyone, you need to choose on your own. As for the Radio Rom, I would suggest ONLY using the sd card method as if you flash this it the thing that is MOST likely to brick your device if something goes wrong. DON'T INTERRUPT THE FLASH FOR ANYTHING!!!!!
As stated the unlocking will change your radio rom.
Read carefully each step of the guides and don't skip anything and you'll be fine...
Welcome and happy flashing,
Cheers...
hi ultramag69. flashed the phone today and it worked fine. the only problem i have now is when trying to update to wm6 i just get the 4 colours screen and lose sync. same when trying to hard spl 2.1. any ideas?
Is there a way to install HARDP-SPL from the micro SD card? I am able to flash any rom from my SD-Card, but I am no longer able to connect my Polaris to active sync. Get an error "USB Device not recognized" and I am not able to get synched. Now I have flashed several different rom's and also different radios, that works from the micro sd card. but I am still not able to connect with active sync. When I enter the bootloader mode then I just see that message "POLA100 MFG SPL-2.20.OliNex CPLD-2" So I guess the Hard-SPL is missing. Home I will get some help ;-)
If you step manually to bootlader mode and see the Olinex string, hard-spl is installed!
Thanks for your answer, didn't know that. However, I am not able to connect to active sync even though I have tried different ROM's and different Radios also, flashed from SD-card. Still no connection to activesync :-(
I have the exact same problem for almost a year now, flashing all roms with the micro sd card... and living without active sync :S
Hope someone can help us here
maybe 2 things :
1- your usb cable is ko...try with an another one
2- maybe the usb pins in your device are twisted or broken...
cheers!

1- the USB cable can't be the problem, already tried a different one, plus using my Touch pro with the same cable on the same computer
2- the pins, I don't know, they look good for what I can tell and it is strange because the phone will be charged with the usb cable
wish I would find a solution.....

Can you dumb that down a bit? I don't have access to a windows computer, so I have to rely on the microSD. Is there a way to Hard-SPL the phone with the SD card? I performed a Hard-SPL on my Wing when I first got it, but I think it was an older out-dated version, cuz I get an "Invalid Certificate" error when trying to flash from my microSD.
Thanks,
-Adam
easy solution which I found
If you first install the .nbh file of the .72 stock spl using the micro sd card, then your device will not boot into the OS. Now run the Sony Ericsson update utility (which you can download from their website) and run it. It will try to upgrade the system through usb. After different steps, this software will ask you to reinstall the OS (the spl should match first) and then you can reinstall the stock spl and you are back to square one. Now from here, you can now go anywhere you like.
Note: The above method, I tried it myself and it worked. It might not work for everyone hence use it at your own risk. But if you have a bricked device, then there is nothing to lose.
