Does anyone know how to disable the start button click sounds, you can disable all other sounds but that one, well what i could find anyways, if anyone knows, that would be great.
The default click sound for the Start Menu (and other menus, like the soft-key menus) is \Windows\menupop.wav - or WM5_Menupop.wav if you've installed the WM5 sounds CAB.
You can't delete the file, but you can use File Explorer to rename it (e.g. XX{WM5_}menupop.wav - depending on what it's called), then do a Soft Reset and everything will be quiet
Cheers,
Mark.
Hi Mark,
Thank you, i have found the file but i cannot even rename it is there something i have to do so that i can edit system files?
Thank you
Ahh....it depends on what ROM you're running as to whether the File Explorer will let you get to system files.....
If you're not running one of the WM6 cooked ROMs, or you're still on WM5, then you've not got many options open to you.....
You could get a copy (There's a 14-day trial available) of Resco Explorer 2007 (www.resco.net) and use that to rename the file.
Hope that helps,
Mark.
Hi Mark,
Thank you again for your help, i will try out the software and let you know if it worked or not.
Really Appreciate your help.
Rob
No luck
i dont suppose there is a registry key :/

Hello
I have MDA compact, and does anybody knows how can i set a mp3 file as ringtone ?
Please !!
Thanks
i think it is possible, i tried this in my i mate pda2k try it and tell us the result.
first use rescue registry which usually comes with rescue explorer then open HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT THEN MP3 THEN DEFAULT THEN CHANGE MP3FILE IN THE SECOND SQUARE TO BE WMAFILE THEN OK
PUT THE MP3 RING TONE IN FOLDER WINDOWS\RINGS
THEN TRY TO MAKE IT RING TONE
THX
Thanks
This knids hard way, i really dont understand that
Man,u should install a reg editor first.Because u have to modify the registry.
yes
u have to use a rigistery editor program which i gave u the name rescue registry program
then open this program then follow up the steps
it is easy
There is a much easier way.. I have attached CAB file that once installed, will allow you to select an MP3 as a ringtone.. Simply find the file in File Explorer & under properties, select 'Set As Ringtone'

Hey, you don't need to do any registry hacks or stuff like that. Just copy your MP3 file to the /Windows/Rings folder and your MP3 file will be available for selection in the list. It's that easy!
Alternatively, install the following application that will add a new menu option "Set as Ringtone" when you tap and hold on an MP3 file in the built-in File Explorer.
Thanks
Is there no much easier way to do that, i suppose if we assign the ring tone to a contact name i think there should any option you can assign the ring tone to a group and transfer all contact into that group ?
or any other way if some one know ?
thanks
I've tried the CAB method before. But the program will copy the MP3 file to Windows\ring\ It ocuppys the precious and pitiful storage space.
I think a better way is to modify the registry to set the ringtone path to the Storage Card...

For some reason on myJAMin I can never execute Messaging from the Messaging.lnk file in Start Menu>Programs - it simply doesn't work. So when I use your applet to set the left key to Messaging I need to manually replace Messaging.lnk by \Windows\tmail.lnk in your Open value for Key 112. I have also replaced the Messaging.lnk in Start Menu>Programs by a shortcut to \Windows\tmail.lnk and renamed it to Messaging.lnk. All of this is sure strange because on my Treo 700W it all works OK.
Thanks for the applet,
Frank
Worked great thanks
Thanks worked for me too. Also have the same problem though when assigning the send sms button to one of the softkeys.
Also another question : how do you assign speed dial to a soft key can not find it in the list.
Thank you!
Thanks alot, it worked with my Neo. But I cannot assign "New SMS and New MMS" to the softkeys, any solutions for this bros?
New SMS being assigned to the Softkey comes up with the error saying tnsms.exe file missing. I believe that APPLET is ripped of some device where there new SMS were started within this program. Any solution known yet?
I had the same issue..
Just copy the file attached (unzip first ofcourse) into your windows folder (on your mobile)
Works like a charm!

I made a CAB to automatic install of SoftkeyAppletEX.cpl (from BuzzDev). Now you can put it into ext_rom

how do you remove this softkey app?
Hi !
I've just upgrade my 9000 with Rom 1.30.89 ITA
With the previous Rom I can move shortcuts in Start>Programs in sub-folders created by me (for example: PIE in a folder called Web)
But now i see the shortcuts (of the pre-installed applications in Rom as Word, Excel, Agenda....) in Programs are hidden files and I can't move to my customized folders, i get an error !
I have an italian OS and the error is "Accesso negato" (probably in English is "Access denied")
Same error when i try to modify the registry from PC with Mobile Registry Editor or Smartione.
What's up ?
Is not my first Pocket PC and with all my past device i always was able to move folders in Programs and edit the registry from PC, but now I don't know what can I do...
Anyone with this issue ?
Thanks
answer
cut and paste the shortcut icons. you will have to have any start menu aplications closed to do this. It will give you an error if you try to move those icons if you don't close those programs also clear out all the checkmarks under start-settings-menu. this should help
I had this issue as well on my Dopod 900. These files seem to be classified as System Files now and are hidden.
I was using Resco File Explorer and it could not see these files. But checking the box "Show All Files", the files could be seen and moved.
Using File Explorer though, I am pretty sure that it sees the files with no problems. You can move them but you get a prompt saying that this might cause some problems with other software. Just have to click OK and it moves it.
Hope this helps.

Thanks sandrobber, I always close all the running application before moving the shortcuts and I clear all the checkmarks
@capkapak
You're right when you say "These files seem to be classified as System Files now and are hidden."
Anyway thanks for your suggestion, I can move files with TotalCommander also (not only Resco) and modify the registry with PHM RegEditor
Obviously both installed in my 9000
But i would like move files and modify registry from my PC....
Ps: This is strange for me, I always was able to move files with ActiveSync and modify registry with Smartione without any problems.....
Thanks guys for your replies

Don’t do that to me.. Because I do contribute when I can.. and I actually have a fix.......
If you didn’t know you could have posted that.. Well here it is..
You need to do two things..
1. Save and zip the file called “PowerOffWarning.exe” from the windows directory
2. Go to the directory that has your psshutxp executable in it and rename the psshutxp.exe to PowerOffWarning.exe.
3. Zip the new “PowerOffWarning.exe” and skin files into a zip file.
4. Execute the zip file and overwrite the “PowerOffWarning.exe” file in the windows directory.
5. Press and hold your power button and enjoy your new shutdown/reset/screen off options.
NOTE: the only reason I choose to do it on long press is because I sometimes quickly want to turn off my screen when putting the phone back into the case. I don’t want to worry or wait for the app to come up and choose an option.
I have attached the two files and they came from a Mogul running WM6.1. If you use these files please backup your device first.
Eazy
maybe someone can create a cab for me please ;-)
mm with diamond don't go.. any ideas?
Great idea Eazy. I'll be waiting for a cab too...
On my hermes, there is no poweroffwarning.exe, so your solution will not work on all devices.
Just had a quick look at the running tasks, and the warning comes from gwes.exe, which is the 'Graphics, Windowing and Events Subsystem'

Works fine on my Touch Pro.
And, if you use program like Resco Explorer, you can pass the ZIP routine, and go directly to overwriting the .exe .
works on my Trinity 6.1
very nice thank you!!!

I'm sorry, I certainly didn't intend to imply any criticism of your work.
For anyone else in my situation, unfortunately the gwes.exe is a vital process, which is always running, and does more than just the power off warning. As there is no standalone app for this warning in my rom, there is no exe which can be replaced.
I made a cab for the method stated.
PsShutXP_Replace.cab is just an automated way of Eazys method on the first page so check that first.
PsShutXP_Diamond.cab is the same method but with the VGA version and a diamond skin from lesteryh
Can this be undone if it doesn't work?
I think there's still the issue where it doesn't work right if you also use S2U2. not sure which ones at fault there.
Works fine on my Vogue running NSFAN's 6.1 Rom. I'm also running S2U2.
I dought the uninstall will work. If you want to go back then read Eazys post on page one and backup the file first.

Hey.. Can I ask you to change up how your cab works.. Just to make things easy.. I have not ventured into how to make cab's yet but will soon..
User:
Install PsShutXP (QVGA/VGA)then run the (not yet created) cab
Your cab:
create a directory under \program files\PsShutXP called Backup
create a directory under \program files\PsShutXP called modfile
copy \Windows\PowerOffWarning.exe to \program files\PsShutXP\backup
copy \program files\PsShutXP\PsShutXP.exe to \program files\PsShutXP\modfile\PowerOffWarning.exe
copy program files\PsShutXP\modfile\PowerOffWarning.exe to Windows\PowerOffWarning.exe and overwrite the file.
copy \program files\PsShutXP\*.gif to \Windows\
and on your uninstall
copy \program files\PsShutXP\Backup\PowerOffWarning.exe to \Windows
This will allow the user to uninstall the program if needed.
I am also using that skin on My Touch pro but removed the text up top that says Touch Diamond.
If you could create that cab it would be greatly appreciated. Until then everyone can just follow the manual process..
Working Devices so far:
Mogul 6.1
Touch 6.1
Touch Pro 6.1
Touch Diamond 6.1
Vogue 6.1
Trinity 6.1

I'll help you out.. I don’t think gwes.exe is the right file for you to be looking at.. How about this.. It seems that when you hold down your power button you get the same type of power off warning box that we do.. How about you go into your windows directors and sort by exe. Then start clicking on each exe until you see the warning box pop up and then you will know which file shuts down your phone. That’s how I found the PowerOffWarning.exe file. Please report back...
There's a thread over at ppcgeeks that I can't find right now, but it said to just copy the psshutxp.exe and paste a .lnk in \Windows\. Then you rename the "psshutxp.lnk" to "Long_Power.lnk". This method doesn't overwrite any exe's and works like a charm on my Touch Pro.
at the time that did not work on my mogul.. if it is working for you then your good.. if it works for anyone else then they dont need to use this process.. i have not tested that on my diamond pro since this worked for me.
When I press Start menu button, it brings me to the screen with only one icon on it - "Today". The rest of the icons is not there.
The folder with Start menu shortcuts
"\\\WinCE Device\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\.." is not empty, there are application shortcuts there.
The screenshots are in the attachment.
Any ideas, what could be wrong?
Thanks,

I have the same problem. Please post the solution. Thank you!
Edit: vvv Fantastic! Thanks!
("\Windows\Start Menu")ermDir("Settings") problem!
folder "Setting" must have original native 6.5 name.
For me it was
("\Windows\Start Menu")ermDir("Настройки") <- Settings
but correct
("\Windows\Start Menu")ermDir("Параметры") <- Parameters
Terms Setting and Parameters for russian language is similar, but for wm6.5 are different : )
so google string ("\Windows\Start Menu")ermDir("Settings")
for you device language
it is 6.5 language related problem
I think it is not device depended. Move to general ?
please can somebody write how fix this problem? I tried google it, but i have no solution.. its frustrating I cant get to some my programs..
Thanx
(and sory for my english)
I might have a solution, but keep in mind that I am brand new to this.
I had the same problem. I discovered that WM 6.5 has a special structure to its Start Menu inside the Windows folder, and gets confused if that is changed.
You can change around the programs folder any way you wish, apparently, but you cannot move, rename or change the SETTINGS folder that sits outside of it.
In other words when you open the folder START MENU in Windows you will find two folders, Programs and Settings. The Settings folder must be there in order for the Start Menu to work properly.
It can be empty, it just has to be present.
Use file explorer to surf to your Windows root folder, and find the Start Menu folder. Once inside make sure you see a Settings folder. If you do not, create one and make sure there is no Settings folder inside the Programs folder.
Then shut down and restart. When the unit comes back up and you hit the Start Menu, your icons should have returned.
Let me know if this works for you.
All useless until fixed initflashfiles.dat.
Enlish language:
("\Windows\Start Menu")ermDir("Settings")
Turkish language:
("\Windows\ctrlpdacom")ermDir("Ayarlar")
etc.
This did the magic!! THANK YOU!!
