hey all. My Friend had a problem with his Prophet where there was no sound on the internal speakers on his Prophet, but a headset worked ok.
He hard reset his Prophet to no avail, but when he asked me, I remembered a similar problem on the E200 (or Canary).
It seems that the headset socket is a bit sensitive, and there's some kind of trigger letting it know when the headset is in. This trigger sometimes gets stuck when the jack is removed, as if there was still a headset plugged in > hence no sound thru speakers.
Solved it this time by plugging the headset in, and taking it out using pressure at various angles. I've also read about toothpicks being used on the Canary, but I'd advise against anything that could break of inside of, or damage (like a hair clip) your device.
anyway, the device fall down?
No, it works fine now.
Great!!! now all you have to do is enjoy the time you lose with your device.
Have fun!
imate JAMin Built-in Speaker hardware failure
I had to get my speaker hardware replaced.
Bad news!
Mine is back for repair due to speaker issues. Sounds like I am not alone ....
And the really bad news is that apparently the replacement audio parts are not in stock - it could take a month plus before I get my device back
It's already been 3 weeks.
This sucks.
Be patient.
Now I have some problems with my device and all I have to do is forget the device for a day and after that put all the attention on it.
Hope you can find the right place to fix it. Good luck!!!
Looks like i have this problem too. I noticed the speaker have some crackling sound sometimes and sometimes it's ok. But today it went dead. tried inserting the jack but no result.
repair neccessary
My Prophet (Orange SPV M600). Is back at Orange to be repaired fr the same problem also.
The speaker on the back of the Prophet started to get dissorted and after two days stopped working at all.
Two days later I found that if you tap on the back of the device, it sometimes worked again. Always only for a minute or so.
In the Orange store they took the device apart to check the connectors. No luck.
Now it has been sent for repairs to??????
Let you know when it has been fixed.

You can do a hard reset to go back to factory defaults (includes the register).
If then still you have no sound, I'm afraid you will have to return it to O2 for repairs.
btw, a hard reset you can perform by holding both the camera and the communications button on the left hand site of the device and then to stick the stylus in the rest hole at the bottom.
The device will prompt you to hit the send button to format your device. This is a hard reset.
Good luck!

Did you have any luck with your speakers problem?
I am facing the same problem and, although I reset it (and tried applying a previous backup which was working fine), I am still unable to make it work... I have to admit that I was playing with the registry a couple of days back, but I don't think that I caused anything by doing so.
Please update on your situation... I have an Orange UK SPV M600.

Its a well known hardware problem, I got Orange to give me a new phone, lets see if this one lasts more than a month.
Mine has been repaired by Orange.
Audio circuit replaced say the repair note........
Works like a charm again.

thanks in advance
Thanks a lot!!! This worked for me....!!!!
I had to insert and take out the headset a few times and then it worked just fine!!
Yeah, inserting the heaphone jack ten times worked the first time, a week later it did not work. Returning my JAMin tomorrow
kind of sucks ...
Hi everyone,
I have a problem with my XDA Exec, basically, the internal phone speaker doesn't seem to work. External one is fine (the one on the outside of the case) but the one next to the screen does nothing.
It did work when I first bought it. I have since upgraded to the latest o2 rom. However I cannot remember if it stopped working exactly then or later!! Daft I know!
So I just wanted to ask if anyone else had this problem after upgrading the rom (I am using 1.30.107 WWE, radio version 1.09.00), and if so, is there a way to fix it? If there is no one else with this then I guess it is a hardware fault and will return it for repair, but wanted to check.
Cheers
Rick
Anyone? I don't mind if the answer is just "Mine works fine", I just want to know if anyone else has experienced this with the same rom version as mine, before I condemn it and return it to the shop.
I have the same o2 rom as you mentioned, and have encountered no problems. Im sure its a hardware problem, caused by dropping the phone etc, rather than a software one.
o2 offer a free replacement within 1 month if you got it directly from them, or I suppose you could get it repaired from somewhere. Im not sure if the speaker is covered under warranty, but might be worth a shot!
Thanks. I have had it about 4 months now I think, I would bloody hope the speaker is covered by the warranty though, phone ain't much use without it
By the way, are you sure the incall volume is turned up!!! Just making sure!
If it is, why not try a hard reset just to see if it helps!
Just gone through the same problem.
First of all try to put the jack of the headset inside the hole and twistle it.
If it doesn't solve the problem, I'm afraid you need a replacement.
I had the same problem a week ago. Every speaker worked, except the one next to the display. The problem appeared somehow over night ... I definitely didn't drop the phone or did something "rude" with it.
Unfortunately, I don't have the original headset to exercise this plugin/plugout/twisteling method as mentioned by lautunno, so I tried this with a regular headphone. Without direct success
A hard reset didn't change anything.
... but after a few days of trying almost everything, the speaker started to work again and still works without any interruptions :?
I'm not sure if it's really hardware related because there are so many people with the same problem and almost everyone of them has fixed the problem by just powercycling the phone many times, plugging the headset in and out, fiddling around with the phone app, etc.
As far as I know, the radio firmware is responsible for addressing this speaker (because it's only useable as a phone speaker) and this part of the device firmware doesn't get resetted when you do a hard reset. Maybe it stores some settings (like headphone mode?) in an EEPROM or something like this.
Anyway, good luck and keep trying.
.ox
ps.: I'm also using the O2 firmware (1.30.96 GER) but I've upgraded the radio stack to version 1.11.00.
believe me, i searched the whole magician forum. my problem seems not to be hardware related.
i don't use BCHS (BT audio) either.
my problem is: sometimes when i call or get a call i can't hear anything in the phone speaker (loud speaker does work, cable-headset works, only phone speaker does not work - but my phonepartner hears me).
it happens very often. mostly when the device isn't used for a while (next day).
i already figured out, that
- reset does not solve the problem every time - but sometimes.
- plug in and out the headset does not help.
- what usually helps:
- using the mute-button on and off during call
- PLUS change volume DURING the call (change from full to low, and back to full again)
- PLUS change volume while there is no call (change from full to low, and back to full again)
if i do this 3 things it works afterwards.
but i don't know, what exactly solves it - one of it - or all 3 together ?
my rom: AT_VODA_11201_161_11200
my radio: 1.13.00
there's not much 3rd-party-soft i use:
bluesoleil
- but bluesoleil does not have BT audio as far i know.
and the problem even occurs, when i deactivate bluesoleil - and use MS BT.
- pointui
i'm pretty sure it's a software-problem. i even remember my blueangel had sound-problems back then, when it was still running WM2003.
but there must be a way to fix it ???
can somebody help please ?
I would seriously consider that this is a hardware issue. Just because it sometimes works does not rule out hardware problems. I suspect it is possibly a poor speaker connection. This is often shown by highly intermittent, irregular sound. It is often very simple to fix, perhaps just re-seating a flex cable connection or tweaking out the speaker spring contacts a little. In rarer cases the speaker coil is damaged and you need a new speaker.
The closest analogy I can give is a torch with dodgy battery contacts. Sometimes a shake or a tap will make it work and seconds later it goes again. Generally the one rule of thumb is, do a hard reset (original ROM if possible) and if it persists then it is pretty certainly a hardware problem.

Just something to consider
Mike
hello,
it's not a hardware issue! - it's not a loose contact or something like that.
i had' it again today:
- in the morning it did not work (as often, when phone isn't used since long)
- i did the 3 steps as described in first post
(no shaking of anything else that's hardware related)
-> it worked. and it worked every time - i tested 10 times.
now (9 hours later) - the phone wasn't used - and i have the same problem:
- speaker did not work
- i hang up
- i change the volumes to lower - than back to full volume again
- i call again
- it works.
i'm driving nuts ...

If I were you, I'd turn the device into the service center. Like Mike already said, I doubt it has anything to do with software. Speaker problems are very seldom software related.

I appreciate what you say, but after sitting for a while the contacts can settle with an oxidised layer between the contacts. Changing the volume changes the current flow and a poor or oxidised contact can have it's increased resistance overcome by increased current flow. Also the speaker vibrates, this once started can be sufficient to keep the contact working for a while, but once sound is left off for a while the problem returns.
Don't get me wrong, without testing I cannot say this is the explanation, but so far I have not read anything to conclusively rule out a hardware problem.
As the above poster says, return it for exchange or repair or failing that it is at least worth checking the speaker and it's connections.
Mike
hello,
i noticed, that in case of a problem i hear voice as long i press the volume-slider upwards - but only during that time!
detailed:
- problem occurs - i hear nothing
- i press volume-slider upwards - during that i hear something
- besides the voices i also hear the beep-beep-beep of the volume-slider
that tells me it's already on max.
- when i let the volume-slider go - it does a few more beep-beep-beep before it stops (it's like you press a key to long, the machine takes a while to handle all keystrokes)
- if i remember correct (*) during that period i hear voice also - although i don't physically press the volume-slider anymore.
what so you think ? - i think i should check this more detailed - am i ?
first off all i need to make sure, if the voice comes from the phone-speaker or the rear-speaker (cause i assume the beep-beep comes from rear-speaker - so i could be, that in that case both goes through rear-speaker?)
then i should make sure if this (*) is correct, or the voice stops in that moment when i let the volume-slider go. - i'm not 100% sure.
i report you back ... thank you very much.
*** UPDATE ***:
- i hear as long the beep-beep-beep goes - but the sound (beep and voice) comes through rear-speaker. i guess this is normal.
so nothing new about the front-speaker - besides one thing:
- i had it again
- i did my 3 steps - this time without using the hardware-volume-slider at all
i just took the software-volume-slider. this 3 steps - and it was fixed again. sorry, but it'S always like this. i can't
believe it's a hardware issue.
guess i will try without pointui...
hello,
i finally opened the device - to check if it's a hardware issue. guess it was - i'm still not sure.
when i resembled the device the speaker did work a few times - then finally stoped working. now it doesn't work at all anymore.
so i want to replace it - can you please tell me, what exactly i have to buy ? on the speaker there's written: AC44 5317.
you think i can get this at a electronic shop ? or where else can i order it ?
thank you in advance.

You can try some of the better known sites that may be able to order it for you. I have listed some possibles on my site under PDA/Repair:
www.mikechannon.net. You will probably need to email them to ask, as it's unlikely they have them listed on their websites.
If you cannot source one, then look around for one that will fit the space. Sounds crude I know, but they are all pretty similar in impedance terms and so long as they connect they should work. For example it is common knowledge that folk with the Hermes replace theirs using a Motorola phone earpiece speaker and it works very well.
Mike
hello,
seems like it's the same as for nokia 6xxx. but i couldn't get on in the shops - so i ordered one (ebay) today. i assume it will take quite long to deliver (since holidays).
as soon i got it i'll try - and let you know!
thank you.
hello,
i got the new speaker yesterday. i replaced it - and the phone did work. but it only worked 3 times - then the same problem again. right now i can't get it to work.
i already made sure the speaker is really ok (test with a mp3player) - and i cleaned the contacts of the little sound-board.
the lights (leds) on the sound board work - so i assume the contact should be ok.
i don't get it - what's wrong with that device ? what further can i check ?
you think it's the sound board ? if so, where can i get another one ?
please help.
I have exactly the same problem and I don't know what to do...
is there any solution to solve the problem?
i've got the same problem
I'm almost 100% sure that your problem(s) are hardware related.

Good afternoon.
I´m not a technician but I advice to see the Audio Daugther Board.
The connection with the motherboard must be precise.
same problem with me... after I upgrade ROM i got this problem too....
but when i write back to old ROM problem is gone....
I think is software problem..
Hello, sorry for my english, is not the best.
I've BIG problem with my P3300. originally it came with WM5, after some time I got update from official site for WM6. Had WM6 maybe for 4 months, everything was just perfect while one day my HTC started do funny things like go off it self (white screen when using navigation). It was a once in a week. After some time it started to be like this few times in a day. I thought what I need to do hard reset. Did. Didn't helped. Than I tried to flash my phone to WM6.1. Phone went mad, was constantly switching off it self, screen just freezes and after that you even can't start the phone around 5-10 min. it just want do anything, even if you plug in the charger, indicating orange light want come up. Than I tried to flash with original WM5. Did that, everything was fine for a day, but after the day it went off, i restarted, and than gone wireless and screen started move to the left and to the right aprox 2 mm. When is connected to computer it want connect to ActivSync, it's coming up message: Can't find IP address, try to disconnect phone and connect again... I did manual configurations in network cards and computer, so when you're looking in network connections looks everything fine, but it's still not recognized by ActiveSync :/ Than i send the phone to recovery mode, connected to the computer and updated to WM6. Same thing, screen shaking, wireless not working, goes off. Is strange thing too, in aprox 24 hr memory is filled up to maximum - than is coming up the message: Storage is full, please delete some programs. :/ Hard Reset have to do every single day... Any idea what's can be wrong with my phone? Tried already a lot of things, no more ideas. I think it's software problem... :/
If anyone have any ideas please share with me... Thanks for everyone.
Anyone any ideas? Please, someone... i don't really wanna put phone in to the bin...
Its a hardware isue
Sorry, I have same problems and try same thinks, finaly I send to service and they say its a commone hardware error on electrical micro connections inside cosed by droping the phone down. Before I send it hangs up 2-3 time at day, now its hapen 1 in 10 day if I accedentaly drop the phone
Hardware issue
I think this is hardware problem..., I have some experience with repair HTC smartphones. Freezing, restarting, problem with screen..., GSM etc,,..
In all cases helps Hot air soldering station, find right chip or module (gsm , proc..) and reheating this.. A frequent problem is BROKEN tin joints BGA chips , after impact of equipment. .. sorry for english...
I'm facing the same problem with my old Artemis.
Since I upgrades, I gave it to a friend. It was working perfectly fine months now, until last week.
The phone keeps freezing, doesn't always boot, many times won't even respond to charger pluged in.
Randomly resoldering the board's chips, sound like a long & hard solution :/

Welcome tot he forum

Read in the Wiki on how to
Hope it helped,
That happens one day in the car travelling home that the sound suddly stop working i restart the xda and everything (not reflash) but nothing work i will try to reflash it because i think is not a hardware problem
is the first time i try to reflash my pda but i have a problem when i try to downgrade it that shows error 260 and i dont know how to fix it
ok, i fix the problem with upgrade xD my english is not good at all and i missunderstand some of the instructions, but after read 100k of threats and 5 hours trying things now is upgrading to tomal rom i hope that this will fix the problem i had before
after reflashing the ce two times the sound is still not working, i am updating now the radio from 1.09 to 1.15, the stereo speakers make a little bit of noise when a sound is played, the headphones dont work, the phone speaker works propertly, and the microphone works but only send the voice to the phone speaker ¿? i dont know why happens this last thing
radio updated and the problem continues anybody can help?
I think it´s a hardware related problem
Try to take it to a repair center
Good luck,
I have the same problem. When a sound is played it just clicks and that's all. I had a problem with my ribon cable and I took it out. I've done that before (it's my second cable failing), so I knew what I was doing. I was off for a about a month untill I got a now cable. When I put it back together, I had no sound, just that click thing. I can't take it to a repair center. If anyone has a solution, please share.
I also found that my camera does not work. It says Failed to initialize camera. 36001:100:1. I tried a different rom, but still have the problem.
Also I tried to make a phone call (I'm not using it as a main phone, that's why I just found that out) and I can hear the other person, but they can't hear me.

PD: orb3000 muchas gracias por ser tan atento
I have good news. Something happened. I dont know what i did... but i got my sound back (and camera. main camera at least).
As you I flashed the rom, then the radio rom and I still got the problem. So I thought I'll leave it like that untill I find a solution. And I thought.. well i can at least play some games on it and I downloaded Archibald. I put it on the phone. Started it and ?! I had sound. Again I dont know if I did something before that, but I got it working. I'll attach the game, maybe it did something. Give it a try.
Again I have no idea what I did. It might have some bad connections somewhere. I remember I had the same problem (either with the Universal or the Wizard) but dont remember how I fixed it.
Here is a link for the game:
i install it but the miracle didnt happens i also will try to remove the battery it have on the motherboard to make a cmos clear (like in a normal computer). Lucky you i will keep trying
I'm sorry to hear that. I didn't if it matters but my small mb battery is dead. Apperantly it died during the month the battery was out. Everything works except that when I do a soft reset, the clock resets too.
I have these problems too, does anyone know the specification of the mobo battery?
I have the sound problem but mine doesnt work even with headphones in and i also have a problem with the keys being activated when the screen is in a certain position. Could all of these problems be casued by the ribbon cable?Rob
As far as my expirience goes with the ribon cable, it commands the touch, the lcd, mic, speaker on the lcd part. the keyboard has it's own cable. and it snaps to the motherboard. maybe it's loose or something. For the battery I got http://cgi.ebay.com/Dopod-D900-900-T-mobile-MDA-IV-Qtek-9000-backup-Battery_W0QQitemZ350170469398QQcmdZViewItemQQptZGPS_Accessories_Cablesthis on ebay. But mine looks a little different.
also happens to me when i make a soft reset the clock also restart could be all because the mb battery is dead?
OK, we are getting somewhere Since my sound got back, whenever I reset I get to keep my current time. So maybe my mb battery fixed itself or charged.
I am pretty sure now that is what's causing the problems. If you could disassemble your pda, try playing with the battery. See if it is not loose or something. Try to short-circut it. Get a something form metal and touch both pins. Also try leaving your PDA charging over night.
I hope you fix it since I cant seem to find that kind of battery over the internet.
