XDA serial comms - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

Hi
Could anyone help with hooking up an RS232 link between my XDA2 and some CNC machinery?
In the past I have had success with Rx, Tx GND and software handshaking between CNC and a laptop. This is what I'm trying to emulate here.
On a XDA cable I removed the 9 pin female D type and replaced it with a 25 pin male.
The brown wire was originally connected to 9pin/2 (rxd???) I now have this going tp 25pin/2(txd??)
The red wire was originally connected to 9pin/3 (txd??) I now have this going to 25pin/3 (rxd??)
I've configured demo versions of PockeTTY and vxHpc to check for any upload / download activity and the IR beam is switched off.
I see absolutely nothing.
Any ideas? Is the XDA fundamentaly not suited to this application?
On the 25 pin the shield connects to pin 7 and 4/5 and 6/8/20 are connected respectively.
Any help appreciated.
Regards
Rob

Making a serial cable?!?!

Your guide to making serial cable is a bit iffy! You say we shall call this pin number 1 but we haven't got any confirmation about this... Is it pin 1 or not - doesn't fill me with confidence
Is it possible to make a USB to serial adaptor cable? I assume not as there arn't enough wires on the USB cable but I'm not familiar with this at all - yet!!
I've searched the web for a guide to serial cable pin layout but I can't find anything anymore.
Might just go and buy one and hope for the best.
Cheers

Also...
Can see anywhere if you can use a laptop to connect via IR com1 and unlock the xda with Manipulator.
IR port is not active.
So no this is not possible.
Can anybody help?
I still cannot get this to work. I have made my serial cable using a null modem cable and the board inside the O2 cradle. I have used a circuit tester to find the continuity between the actual XDA connector and the power connector for the cradle (con2 i think) - It has all the relevent pins for the serial connection.
Manipulator sits on the scanning ports screen and ActiveSync seems to be stuck in a loop but does not connect. I have obviously disabled ActiveSync b4 trying to connect with Manipulator and vice versa.
I have also attempted to rewire this as advised by one of you on another forum - using just the TX RX and GND pins as I am only trying to unlock the phone. This still does not work.
If somebody could send me a diagram of the serial connection it would help because the instructions here are a little vague. With just TX and RX connections I have wired up as so:
Com Port------------XDA----------------Con2
2-----------------------8-----------------5th connector from left
3----------------------10----------------7th from left
5-----------------------2-----------------1st from left
Also looking down on the circuit board with con1 away from you and con2 toward you. Con1 Pin 1 is on the right - right?!
I could go and buy the cable but to be honest I would probably just go and get a new phone on O2 to use that sim. I would really like to get somewhere on this coz it's now annoying!
Working
Sweet, Sweet, Sweet.
Didn't work with Manipulator but works with terminal prog??
I am now unlocked
Radio 4.06
Wallaby 5.15
Dunno if there is a prob with it - but just to let you know...

Can someone verify the connections please?

Hello:
I have made a car power cable up from the connections supplied on this site; I have checked the connections time and time again but it still does not work.
I have checked thevoltage it is fine (+6V)
Since there are 3 x V_ADP and 3 x GND listed on the connectors but I have only used one of each for my power supply. Is this ok or do I need to use ALL of the pins to get it to work? Is this why it says there is no power???
Thanks
You need all the pins, and the XDA II uses more pins than the XDA I. Look around, there are some photos and very specific details that were posted recently.

Wired USB receiver for Jam

Is it possible to connect a wired GPS receiver to a Jam?
I have a BR305 which I rewired to suit an XDA using wiring diagrams from this site. The USB lead to the Jam would supply a pair of power cables (+v and - v) and a pair of data cables. If this was possible where would i get the connection info? I know what the wires do that go into the current xda type plug.
Thanks
Doug
Sorry--This subject has already been raised (But not finalised?)

I have the same USB receiver so keep me updated if you find a way to connect it.. I already mailed the dutch distributer of the GS305 but haven't received an answer so far..
Ok will do.

If you get a reply would you please E mail me

Serial & USB pin connections for XDA2

I would like to connect my XDA2 to a garmin gps. I know there are ways to do it with null modem cables etc, but would like to use a simple cable, cut the end off it and put a pfranc connector on the Tx and Rx serial wires.
I wondered about using this as a starting point, as it would let me provide power to the XDA2 also.

But.....it is USB. Can I simply cut off the USB connector and identify the Tx Rx wires as with simple serial cables. I suspect due to the plug & play nature of USB, the wiring is more complex.
Thanx

I don't know much about the USB side though.
Thanks thats helpful.....The USB is quite separate from the serial transmission, so cables will not be interchangable. Have ordered some connectors, and just make one from scratch. 8)

Cat-5 Ethernet Splice - No interface on Monitor NIC

I am using cat5 cable running from PS3 ( Playstation ) going straight to my modem/switch/router ( all-in-one). I have cut the cable casing in the middle and re-wired through my 2 keystone jacks.
The is no problem with the PS3 it connects to the internet fine, I even CUT the brown and blue cables.
The problem is my monitor computer when i plug in the monitor ethernet cable wont connect it says " ACTIVATION OF NETWORK FAILED "
Even in Wireshark i cannot see any interface.
I am only using 1 ethernet cable because i dont care about capturing both traffic just one way i want to test.
I have tried to put my eth0 up in promisc but still not connecting and still not showing any interface in wireshark.
Can anyone help me in any way ? Why is my computer not connecting to the tap and why is no interface showing in wireshark

Click to collapse
from the picture it doesnt lookm like you punched the wires down the best way to do this is with a tool but it is possible to do with a flat head screwdriver but to protect bandwith/ ip conflicts you shoud be using a switch
