I found this app on a japannese site which enables apps like winrar with lagacy menus (which require screen tap) to use the wm5 softkeys...
to install just put the exe file into \windows\startup folder...
I personally find it extremely useful.... enjoy!
Hey!
This is a really nice app!!!!
Thanks so much for the file, i've been looking for something like this for quite a while! Works just as i wanted it to!
Cheers,

Hello,
I'm having aproblem downloading this fle on my xda exec - clicking on the file brings the save box - but it has 'download.php' as the file?
Please help
^^just save download.php and after downloading, rename it to menukeyhelper.zip
You might need totalcommander or resco explorer to do that
*bump for those who are new here*
What are legacy notes? Can this hack work on other softwares too? For example, if I run Mem Maid Quick Clean, I have to manually tap the close button because the "OK" or "ENTER" button of the keyboard does not close the application, only a manual tap with a stylus can close the app.

I have installed Magic Button 2.0 build 51023 on my HTC Wizard with WM5 AKU2.2. I really like the size of MB, but I have one question. The "OK" and "X" buttons are round like WM2003. I would like to use the square buttons that are standard on WM5. Does anyone know how to do this. I would guess that Wisbar and all the variants would have the same problem, but I am not sure. Any help would be appreciated.
I tried Magic Button on my Wizard and didn't like it.
I'm now using InClose
http://insoftwarehouse.com/downloads/index.php?l=en
I find it much better...it's free...and it's got a square icon!
Thanks ianmann. I haven't tried InClose. The soft reset feature is a nice bonus. I will try it out.
I just noticed, the cab file is over 800KB in size  . That is almost 10 times the size of MB. I like the task manager to be in ROM for responsiveness. Thanks for the advice, but I think I will stick with MB. Does anyone know of a way to change the close and ok icons to the original square icons?
thanks for the app
Try wClose 1.1
There is an app wClose that is 8.5k  in size, you should try-it.
Closes apps
Fully costumization.
Read the readme file.
Ah and its freeware.

I've tried both. Magic button, as said, doesn't seems to fit the WM5 theme well. As for InClose, my unit seems to have problem with it that, my Picture and Video aren't working properly (no thumbnail) after it has been install. You might want to double check yours.

RuiMg - wClose is EXACTLY what I was looking for. All I needed was something small that closed instead of minimized. I never would have found it since I am an American and thus foreign language-challenged  . Thanks a bunch. Now if I could just get the really thin battery meter that went across the top that was part of MB, I would be set. I think I saw it in a forum here.
Mmm I'm going to give Wclose a try as well. Although I do like the way you can set exclusions on InClose so some applicatiions...like contacts and dialer..open faster. And on my device InClose takes less than 170k.
I'll suggest a battery meter....Batti...seems accurate and easy to see
http://pda.jasnapaka.com/
Edit: And you're right...my Pictures and Video didn't work either...so InClose is out the window.
I tried right now wClose as suggested, and works great... very small and you can't notice it. Thanks for the suggestion.
is there a patch for the cingular 8525 to make it look like vista? i've seen the skinning stuff, looks to involved ( to many programs ). thanks LuXx
I am running wisbar advanced, and I have a great vista theme that I would be happy to upload, or I can try and find where I originally found it. doesn't take up too many resources, and it has a _ton_ of customization

I have one that I'm using that doesn't require installing another app that hogs up memory. This is a simple Vista "aero" type theme and a nice dialer to match. I'm using them now and I like 'em. I think I might have even gotten them from the forum, or maybe not. Anyhow, enjoy!
do you have screen shots? What is the tsk file and how do we use it?
Thanks!

Sorry, no screen shots handy right now, but all you have to do with the .tsk file is copy it to your \Windows directory. Then, go ahead and change your theme like you normally would. (Start --> Settings --> Today)

I see from your Avatar that your sporting the new Hermes headset. It's nice 'cos it doesn't require the Bluetooth connection - you just tuck the Hermes inside next to your ear and away you go; and with Wifi on it keeps your ear warm as well. I've heard a rumour that there's a dual core Hermes with twin hand-sets that keeps both ears warm. Bit itchy though??

Not sure what the problem is, Zgembo was able to get it extracted and working. Are you just extracting the whole folder onto your desktop (or somewhere) and then moving it over to the phone?
Exactly, simple as cake... Just copy two file to any folder of your phone, and run it... Dialer (bigger .cab file) is just an option, instals as standard application... Skin (.tsk file) is very compact, and just double click it to add it to phone's themes... You can delete these files after installation...
does anyone know any drawback to the ETEN dialer besides losing video call as an option?

Maybe someone with some skills (definitely not me) can put the smart dial and video option into this dialer skin. I think this was originally created for the 8125. Shogunmark... I know you're a pro. Whatcha think?

i can build wizard roms and cabs, etc.. but when it comes to *.tsk and dialer skins, i will admit defeat.. i have tried at those and failed so many times.. its not that i couldnt create them, its that they looked horrible.. i am seriously lacking in artistic skills.. i might look into anyway since i am dying to start cooking roms but the bootloaders on these phones right now is a major roadblock.. we will see what time has in store for me
Excellent phone skin! I love it!
i found the site where the nice dialer was from:
http://www.paulya.com/dialerskins.htm
he appears to have E-TEN dialers with Smartdial (scroll down to the bottom round classic) It states the "Blackglass" has smartdial. Anyone try that out on a TyTN?
Anyone know how to fix the AeroMobile.tsk theme to support the Portrait mode? When I slide out my keyboard, the skin should strech but doesn't. I tried to fix it with MS Theme Generator, but no luck... Any suggestions? I'm using Pocket PC 2002 Theme Generator V2, as that seems to be the last release from MS.

Hi all. Need some help please. I had recently used the 'hide' TrayApplet program but after uninstalling Spb Shell, decided that I could do with it being back, but don't want large icons on my Today screen again.
Hkey_Local_Machine\SOFTWARE\HTC\TrayApplet
above I found the links to each of the icons in the tray and can successfully point them to programs of my choice. Great!!
No! The links now work a treat, but the old icons remain the same (therefore hard to distinguish what does what until you tap it).
Does anyone know how to or where the registry entries are for the icons in the TrayApplet? e.g when I tap on the web n walk icon, I now get my configured Internet Explorer, but no associated icon.
Any help appreciated.
No one here hot on Reg-editing? Tried looking at the Universal wiki and their Reg hacks, but it most of it seems to be filed using different naming conventions and some alternative methods.
In any event. The above post shows where the links are (in seperate folders)....which can be permanently deleted and will then remove them from the TrayApplet.
Thanks for the info. I am still trying to decide what to do with the tray on my phone.
Try this cab file.........i'm using it on my Ameo now. It creates a programe in your programe folder with which you can turn on/turn off your tray applet as you wish. Hope it helps

No probs neildunne..at least you tried to help.
And someone else has benefitted from your answer.
Is there a simple regedit to enable/disable the trayapp?
Yep there is
Yes you can do it manually.
Go to HKLM\init and create a strin Launch92 and give it the value TrayAp.exe. When you want to remove it delete the key.
Can somebody post the HTCHomeplug plugin so I can use this one instead of the taskbar?
WA3 will solve it.
I'm happy. God is listening.
System Tray Features
* Added the ability to place program icons on the system tray.
On the screenshot above, you'll see icons that don't normally appear on the system tray. WisBar Advance 3 now allows you to place icons on the tray as a "quick launch" bar, similar to iLauncher and several other software packages.
Get it here:

I too would like to remove this tray bar at the bottom. I dont like it and cannot find how to remove it on my X7500.
I know how to do it on my universal, but the registry is not the same.
Any light on this would be greatly appreciated
Thanks

Thanks from me for this too.
Although I am curious to know... from the community at large perhaps... the Today screen is evidently made up of a series of components... TSk files for the theme... applet files for additional display options... the HTC plug-in software to modify the HTC HomePlugin etc.
It seems a bit odd to me... given the apparent effort put into theme creation software by quite a few writers... that those same coders stopped where they did... at themes.
It seems like only half of the job... even the admittedly-clever HTC Home Plug-in Customiser goes that far and no further.
I'd expect at least one developer to come up with a more comprehensive product... the modules do exist as separate entities... theme designers... plug ins and customisers... and especially with the advent of WM6 and VGA screens...
I've had two Blue Angels now for a couple of years. It never occurred to me to play with themes. The only modfication of the desktop was from whatever software went in and did so as part of the package... XCPU Scalar and some SPB items for example. I never even bothered to upgrade the Windoze from 2003SE. Everything seemed to work alright, and most software that I try to use on it still does too.
Now we have two Ameos as well... both running different versions of WM6... different ROMs... one of which (the later) is T-Mobile.
And, probably due to the larger screen, I decided to take a look into the desktop.
The T-Mobile flavour did indeed come with this Tray App, and it is only today and on here (naturally) that I have actually found out the designation of the thing.
XCPUScalar knew all about it long before I did, and stuck it's Speed, Reset, and Off buttons in it.
The other Ameo came with what I think may be a vanilla (HTC) version of WM6 and the HTC Home Plug-in... and I only recently learned about that here too... none of this appears in the little manuals T-Mobile inlcude with the Ameo of course.
I wonder now, as I write, if a fairly basic and simple method of getting rid of the Tray App may simply be either removing it from the Windows folder or perhaps renaming it.
Either way, your method works well for me... as does XDA-developers per se... and without whom all HTC customers, whether members here or not, would be a great deal poorer.
Personally, I do wish that I understood a good deal more of the subject matter, especially in the deeper-delving posts... but at least with xda-developers being here... all of you... the possibility exists.
Thank You once again... all of you.

Havent got a cab but the reg keys are:

HomeLSKPath (path to the executable)

what's the executable though? I'll have a dig about and see what I can break!!

no idea tbh.
i just ran all people and looked at the processes running on my device and it doesnt show up as a seperate entity... makes me think this might not be possible?!!?!
let me know if you manage to crack it.
Incidently... i set my manila LSK to launch the camera app as "all people" can be accessed when you hit the phone dialer with left hard key.
Try this for the path...
Manila://people\browserlayer\?.page
Last thing, I guess I can just use a mobile reg editor to do all this and then a soft reset?

Yes mate. I plump for CeRegEditor as you can do it on your PC via ActiveSync, but obviously any reg editor will do.
I like IBE registry editor for winmo as a pure standard registry editor.
But i have started using dotfreds task manager for reg edits as it has so much capability. Not just a reg editor but a task manager (the best imo), plus endless amounts of other stuff.
BTW @JohnC... did you try that path yourself? does it work etc? where did you get that info from?

Completely OT (and I slate people for that normally) - I've got dotfred's task manager on my storage card, but never actually used it. I didn't realise it did reg editing too. Is it finger friendly (I use Total Commander, so most things are finger friendly in comparison!)
Edit:
I've got a Dutty ROM on my phone and it adds the "All People" link as standard. I just got that value out of the registry. Would love a list of all the Manila:// commands available!
Awesome!
Slowly getting my head around WinMo and its foibles - just need to spend some time in a kitchen and I might start making my own ROMs to my taste...we'll see though as the missus hates I play with it enough as it is!!!
I was using Dutty's ROM but the V.06 had the gash outlines on the buttons so went back to stock 1.66...might try v.07 though

DotFreds is excellent... its not that finger firendly but i forgive that as it is so powerful. Its shows me more about my winmo device then task manager does on desktop windows.
I have it assigned to long press send key which is extremely handy. Once you start it... click on the drop down menu (top right of the interface) and scroll through all of its options.... a truly epic program imo.
