using internal gps with other sw - P3600 General

Hello! on my ita w5 trinity i can use gps with tomtom (htc bundle), and works fine.
But, when i try to use internal gps with other sw, like vito astro or gps utilities, i can't found it! so, there is some way to activate, monitor internal gps or there is some option to use ??
sorry for my poor english...
thank's to everyone...
trinity, rom 1.23.408.2, radio 1.38.00.11

The GPS is available on COM9.
I am working on a little piece of software that uses the GPS. Luckily, I found out that the GPS can be accessed through COM9. However, if you do a software search (I use VB.NET), then COM9 is not listed as available. So, it might be that other software also don't show this port.

hi try looking on the forum for a programme called "GPS TEST"

Thank's to all, i've found com9, after a lot of tries......
it works with more sw.... weeelllll !!!

Leadtek 9553 and NMEA Problems?

Guys,
Just got this GPS to go with my Xda Exec, it seems to work fine and is a lovely little unit, but only functions correctly when using with SirfIII compatible software? Any software that doesn't have Sirf support doesn't seem able to switch the GPS into its NMEA mode?!
Any PocketPC apps I download to use with it just hang as soon as I open the port to the GPS UNLESS they support Sirf.
Am I missing something here?
Get hold of the TT vs3 GPS driver, and use that to switch the GPS over to the NMEA mode
Ahhh thanks for reply, sounds good but where do I find that? Is that the GPS.cab file that comes with the install? If so thats already on there!?
I've tried Google but can't find any trace of anything similar?
Try pocketgps.co.uk go to the downloads section and it is on that page its vs2,06 that you need - Mike
Many thanks, just installed it and I now have a new application in my Programs.
Upon firing it up, I can select from a list of GPS devices and the port it uses. My Leadtek isn't listed BUT there are listings for Sirf AND for NMEA at different speeds.
To get my GPS working with these applications that support NMEA only which of the NMEA speeds should I select?
Does this new program act as a 'gateway' to the GPS, or some sort of soft configuration for the GPS driver? Should I uninstall the Tom Tom GPS Bluetooth software?

IGO Issues

Any Ideas?

Daniel
please provide a little more info about your pocket pc. what brand, what model, what operating system?
cheers
peter
Hi,
I can only say that it works for me using the com8, 4800 baud with Clipon-BTGPS.
You can check my rom version and my model in my sign.
have you create an outgoing port in bluetooth settings?
Hi
Yes I created an outgoing port. And If I Trust the LED's on the Nokia Bluetooth GPS mouse there is a Connection.
The settings worked on my Wizard.
I have a T-mobile Vario II with Austrian Software.
ROM 1.21.112.3
Radio 1.05.02.00

Hi
I made one more test I have a little .net application porgrammed that talks with the GPS. And I get Data allright with exactly the same settings.
In the Meanwhile I am on COM4 with 38400 baud.
Also Navizon Works. - Strange Strange Strange.
Then I use Navizon as a virtual GPS on COM8 and it works - how strang can it get.
Navizon on the other hand doesn't recognize the phone Part of the TyTN

Hi
the Thing with Navizon in the middle is verry unstable = not usable.
Anybody other Ideas?

Hi
Anybody runing I-GO on Hermes so far?
Is it the GPS or the Device not working with I-GO
TOM TOM 5.2.21 works no problem.
BR
Daniel
iGo works perfectly in my TyNT
iGo works perfectly for me. I'm using NMEA com9 and a 4800 baud rate with my fortuna clip-on.
I also have tomtom (not installed yet) but go with iGo because I visit eastern europe often (Croatia at the weekend).
A nice touch is that inserting the memory card autoruns the application. To take advantage of this I would be interested to know how much of the application can be moved to the memory card (freeing up memory in the device)? In an ideal world the application would be totally contained on the memory card. Any ideas?
Hi
I also have new News:
As it as TOMTOM is working it is Realy the combination I-GO Nokia LDW3 that causes the Problems.
My Current workaround is to use GPSProxy which is Free. It is more stable than the previous workaround with Navizon.

GPS port conflict after Bepe's 0.67 upgrade

First of all, thank you Bepe for a wonderful achievement.
I've upgraded yesterday, everything is much smoother and faster than before but i have one problem: GPS receiver is malfuntioning. Seems My Mio GPS software hangs each time it detects the GPS antenna while it didn't before.
Has the new ROM upgraded the radio as well? is fo is is possible to go back to old radio? Will it erase everyhting on my Touch ?
Thank you
Not sure it's due to bepe's rom, cause I'm having exactly the same problem with the original rom... the app freeze everytime the antenna is detected. I'm trying to figure out what's wrong but I'm stuck at this for days now :-(
If you uncheck in the settings for external gps the box to let the device automatically manage the gps, then it's not freezing anymore... but Igo doesn't detect the gps antenna neither so...
I tried different com port, diferent bauds... with tomtom port 4 bauds 4800 worked perfectly... but with Igo ??
Anyone have had this problem?
After unchecking the settings for external gps the box to let the device automatically manage the gps, i get " GPS could not be found" error.
anyone knows how to fix that ?
I have the same problem with Igo and the original french HTC rom
with MioMap3.2 I manually set the GPS port (in MioMap) to use COM 4 and it works for me. On the Start Menu->Settings->System->External GPS, my GPS Program Port is set to COM4 and Hardware port is set to None. I let Windows Manage GPS automatically.
GPS receiver driver ?
Are there any drivers for the GPS receiver or has the radio version something to do about the fact the GPS won't work properly with Bepe's .67 opera version ?

Hi, Xman -- I don't know this software and so probably can't really offer anything helpful. For what it's worth, the GPS seems to work fine on my P6500: both with Google Maps and with GPS-enabled photos on the HTC Camera app. Does your GPS work with those programs?
Sorry about your troubles!
Alan
I didn't try with Google maps because I'm interested in making Igo work .
At list tell me an app which can show me some info about the internal gps such as speed /the com port on which it's installed etc..
Thanks
Problem solved!!!!!!!
Solution? GPS Gate
I have also noticed the same problem running both IGO-2006 and I-GO 2008 on my 6500,on the other hand i have had no trouble whatsoever running Destinator 7 and Garmin ,i guess it's got something to do with the software and not the PPC itself which i must say has a very good GPS receiver.
Edit
Thanks for the GPS-gate idea.

At output I have Gpsgate direct/virtual com2(all NMEA)/COM2/COM4
But as I said in my previous post...is not quite working.
Also you might check the franson's web site ..thy seem to have a nice support forum...if you find anything please share.

Hey Xman556,
it is a crack one at the moment untill I can get it to work properly then I'll buy it if not I'll just leave it.
The way I can get it to work is like this I start the iGo8 then I go to settings TMC and dp a search if return as no hardware fined then I go to GPS and put in the com port 4 and the speed 57800 and it work but if I do a soft rest the iGo8 well not work anymore until I change the GPS port in the PDA to a diffrent port like port 8 then the Igo8 well star and I have to do everything I did before go to TMC and so on if I try to go straight to the GPS without going to the TMC the system hang and I have to do a soft rest this is the way I got it working I'm using the version 4.1.506 if the Igo I tried the earlier version and it is the same problem I need a solution better than this.
Thank You
Gigino
As far as I see the problem is that the cracked Igo is not able to start the internal gps.
Here my new solution..this time is really working !!!
GPS TEST from chartcross...i start this program .it starts the gps then menu/minimize and after i start the igo.
Tell me if it works for u.

thank you for you suggestion it does work now it is much more easier after a soft rest.

I had this problem with I-go at first. When first installed selecting the gps port and or baud rate would lock the phone. Also if you did an auto detect it would also lock the phone. Solution, have gpsdash or google navigator running with the gps enabled (or anything else that works with the internal gps it seems). Without stopping the app start I-go and it will find and use the gps quite nicely.
Once it has done this the first time I never had to run anything else before I-go even after a reset. Tried this several times by fully reseting the 6500 and worked every time.
similar GPS problems with HTC P6500 and iGo
Hi all,
I'm writing from Germany and have similar problems with iGo 2006+ and iGo 8.
(I purchased iGo 8 just yesterday)
My (German) settings:
Settings --> System --> External GPS -->
Tab Program?:
COM4 for internal GPS, no external GPS via Bluetooth (see Attachment)
Tab Access?:
manage GPS automaticly: ON
What are your GPS settings?
- - -
What I have discovered:
- 1st starting iGo 2006+ and iGo8: both applications hang during 'starting'
- With Igo 2006+ I tried: 1st starting the app 'GPS Tuner', then starting iGo
--> It starts and iGo finds GPS on Com4 with maximum baud
(now I don' t have any longer 'GPS Tuner')
- With iGo8 I tried starting the freeware 'VisualGPSce' 1st (until GPS fix), then starting iGo8 --> It starts, I could set COM4, maximum baud...
--> so I think, is is an internal iGo/GPS-problem
- Today I could drive about 10 km with Igo8, then it crashes without any msg
You can see, I have similar probs, did u solve the probs meanwhile?

Rainer from Germany
cracked igo works fine on Sedna. from SD or InternalFlash.
I´m using GPSGATE.
Start GPSGATE, best automatically after reboot.
this will start the internal GPS.
Now you have 2 possibilities.
1. use the output port of GPSGATE, maybe Virtual Com1. You can select it in the options from GPSGATE
or
2. use Com4 from internal GPS. once startet from GPSGATE, it works.
you have to edit your sys.txt in folder programs....igo8
[gps]
port="1" or "4"
baud="38400"
it works definitly

Latest news
After trying all kinds of programs(GPS port spliter, gps gate and gps test) I found that the solution with gpstest is the best.So I decided to perform a hard reset in order to install on my device only the useful software. But after the hard reset the gps would not start no matter what programs I installed. So I sent the device to HTC and they replaced the mainboard.
Now the IGO8 works perfect(together with GPSTEST-pls see my earlier posts).
GPS Text script
I too found GPSTest.exe useful because its really small.
Strange that iGo hangs when trying to communicate over the port *unless* you start another program and open up the GPS unit's port.
Sounds a lot like PPC/iGo GPS management issue.
Be that as it may, I created a script with MortScript, and then put this shortcut under my programs in "\Windows\Start Menu\Programs" on my PPC (I'm running WM 6.1 if you care).
The following script opens GPSTest.exe, launches iGo, then closes GPSText.exe after iGo shuts down;
iGoLaunch.mscr:
Code:
#OPEN GpsText.exe minimized
Run ("\Storage Card\Program Files\Chartcross\GPSTest\Bin\GPSTest.exe")
WaitForActive ("GPS Test", 5000)
Minimize ("GPS Test")
#Run (and wait until iGo closes)
RunWait ("\Program Files\iGO8\iGO8.exe")
#Close GpsText.exe
Kill ("\Storage Card\Program Files\Chartcross\GPSTest\Bin\GPSTest.exe")
After creating iGoLaunch.mscr, put this link (use notepad) into "\Windows\Start Menu\Programs"
iGo 8 GPS.lnk:
Code:
1#"\Storage Card\iGo8\iGoLaunch.mscr"?\Program Files\iGO8\iGO8.exe, -101
Please note: If you decide to use this script and shortcut, I highly suggest you check the paths/filenames for accuracy.
GPS and WM 6.1 upgrade
Hey guys -- this may well not be relevant to the issues you're dealing with -- I don't use iGo -- but there is a HUGE improvement in GPS reception with the Windows Mobile 6.1 upgrade. My Sedna used to have a very difficult time getting GPS reception: it often could not find a signal despite repeated attempts. But since the upgrade, it's been locking on quickly and consistently.
Thought I'd pass this on in case it's helpful.
Alan
very simple script
once the GPS is initialized for the first time it will work
I've wrote a script for MortScript. The only code is:
WriteFile( "COM4:",x )
This script only sends something (here x) to COM4.
Then COM4 is used for the first time and will keep on working.
I start this script in autostart.
That's all.
Please regard uppercase and colons when writing "COM4:"

Solution for port splitter
You can use port splitter for your gps. here is the process i went through with my HTC (jade). first i used gps gate and figured out that the internal gps is using com4. since gpsgate is not free and had to stop using it I tried port splitter
simply install port splitter on your pda
under INPUT-> PORT: com4 and Baud: 4800 (you might have to type COM4 yourself)
under OUTPUT-> select com1 on the drop down menu and press ADD
then press Start Splitter
and it should work
if not install gpsgate and figure out what port it is using and than use port splitter.
This should save you some money

GPS problem after ROM upgrade

Hi
I just flashing my cruise with the new official HTC Rom(French).
Now my gps won't work anymore. Everytime i setup my GPS port(com1-com9)in parameter "External GPS", the parameter are not saved.
Tomtom say: "no GPS device"
any idea
Thanks
PS: sorry for my bad english!!!
After flashing always make a HARD reset ( push gps button and explorer button and reset button with stylus then push green button 2 times ) and it 'll solve all your probleme
Thanks
but i does not change anything.
I just perform a hard reset and always unable to save my gps port parameters.
any other idea?
Your gps doesn't work or you can't save the port on windows gps settings?
i can't save the hardware port on windows gps settings
Why do you want to save it , when you launch tomtom/igo they found the gps automaticaly and it works fine.
There might be a problem with the settings in "External GPS" (under "connections" menu).
In my case it shows COM4 (programs tab) / (none) (hardware tab) / Manage GPS automatically (access tab)
And ofcourse both Tomtom and IGO8 are configured to use COM4.
if i am not configuring the GPS com port, tomtom are not able to find GPS device: "No GPS device found"
I try "Integrated GPS Device" and " GPS NMEA" with the same result.
I use TomTom 7.450.9028
I also use TomTom 7.450.9028 (and iGO8) with no problems........
My device is configured to use programs => COM4, hardware => (none) as I told you. Sorry if I can't help you more than this.........
i try the same parameter as you... and it works!!!
thanks
Nice to have helped you!

Radio 1.59.42.15 seems to play havoc with Destinator
After upgrading a Polaris to the most recent HTC Official WM6.1 ROM (Portuguese) I started having problems with Destinator 7.
The device detects the GPS signal and then loses it every 20 seconds or so. If you go back to the GPS settings in Destinator, you see that the GPS Antenna is OK, with 7 or satellites, and then you go back to the map and it works for a while (another 20s) before it loses GPS signal again.
I tested this on 3 HTC Cruise and it is always the same.
I tried upgrading the radio but that didnt work because Radio 1.64.xx.xx doesnt seem to work on this ROM (no sound on calls, poor GSM/3G reception).
I also tried Radio 1.58.21.23, and that still gives me problems with GSM/3G.
Here is the info on the HTC ROM
R 1.59.42.15
G 25.69.30.05H
D 3.13.00.00
Has anyone been through this and found a way out?
Thanks
Andre
Did you try this Radio Rom?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2787760&postcount=262
It seems to be a better/newer one
Tried the ROM but
Scotty, thanks for the suggestion - that didn´t help, though.
Now, here´s the funny part: I decided to use Destinator 6 and guess what? It worked like a charm: 8 satellites in 30s, no loss of signal. Go figure!
Destinator 7 works on all other HTC devices and used to work on the BetaPortuguese ROM I had. I don´t really understand why the radio messes up with GPS so much. Still, I´m glad I found a solution.
Thank you for the support!
