Hi,
I've just got an XDA IIi (having had XDA I and II before) using O2 in the UK.
I notice that the O2 Active application has a button in the bottom toolbar called "screen view" which rotates the display by 90° (i.e. making it landscape instead of portrait).
I don't use O2 Active itself as it's too clunky for what I want, but I would like to have access to the rotate screen feature.
Is it possible to put this on a button in my lower toolbar on the today screen (i.e. next to wireless and bluetooth icons). If so, how? Alternatively, can I have it as a button on the "desktop" (I use "Rhino Launch" to give me shortcuts to programs on the today screen). In the latter case, I'd just need to know where the exe for it is or a .lnk that will activate the switch in the display.
Thanks a lot,
James.
There shoud be an icon on the bottom taskbar far right to change screen layout.
If you hate the O2 active crap thats on the phone, do a hard reset and when prompted for "Personal" or "Corporate" user ..... choose the corporate option and use the password "0506"
The screen layout swapping icon is deffo on the corporate install.
The little icon which rotate the screen sometimes missing( after i install some software e.g. spb Diary,)
actually i don't really care to use the O2 active that softare, but does anyone konw what is the short cut of the screen view ?
cos i want to put it in my spb pocket plus..
or does anyone know what is the short cut for changing the screen?( setting--system---screen--Landscape ( right-handed)?
or even the short cut of the little icon in the right hand corner?
really thx..
Thanks for the replies.
I removed O2Active from the start-up (by removing "connections" from the /windows/startup" folder) and did a soft reset. Now that O2 active doesn't run, the icon for changing the screen orientation is now being displayed in the lower right corner.
Problem solved.
Cheers,
James.
I removed the O2 shortcut from the startup folder ages ago and the little screen orientation icon remained at the bottom of the today screen until today.
However it just dissapeared while installing some software (Calligrapher.) If I start O2Active a similar icon appears but it hasn't come back to the today screen. I'm sure it's not the same one. (Note the wi-fi icon in O2 does different things from the today screen one.)
So anyone have any ideas how to bring it back?
In future I think I'll backup the entire unit before every install.
Of course, as soon as I entered my reply saying the rotate screen icon had appeared in the today lower task bar after removing O2 active (does anyone actually use O2 active?), it promptly vanished and I didn't even install any software in between. This is very mysterious. I did a soft reset but it didn't come back.
Can anyone shed light on this?
Thanks,
James.
After a few resets and some experimentation I think I've good evidence to show that the icon dissapears on the next soft reset after installing spb diary. I've submitted a polite request to their support. It might be worth someone else doing the same if they can prove to themselves that spb diary is causing this.
Mike
i've experienced this as well and there's no O2Active program on my Startup folder....does anyone have any updates on this? thanks....
UPDATE: fyi, got a response from customer support:
With regard to your query below, are there any third party applications? Any software conflict may cause malfunction to the unit. To remove any software conflict, you may want to do a hard reset then without restoring any data, monitor the performance of the unit.
1) To perform a full reset:
Warning: Clearing memory deletes all data and restores the Pocket PC Phone to its default settings. Programs installed at the factory remain, while data you have created and programs you have installed are erased.
Before performing the full reset, use ActiveSync to keep a backup of your Pocket PC Phone data so that if you need to clear memory, you can restore the data on your Pocket PC Phone.
To perform a full reset on XdaII, press and hold the power button, and then use stylus to press the soft reset button at the same time. After the full reset, you will be prompt to recalibrate the touch screen.
2) Without performing any synchronization with your desktop PC to Restore back the information(under an enviroment of no possibility of software confliction), try to use and monitor the functionality of the Xda II.
I need some inspiration.
Heres mine
nice looking today screen there. might be an idea to list the today plugins that your using for any users that might be unsure what they are! will post pics of mine once i have it looking how i want
Tom
This is my home screen.
I'm running:-
1. PhoneAlarm at the top
2. Plugin of my own showing date, battery life, temperature, notes and voice notes saved/outstanding and operator (with phone number popup)
3. Customised AlarmToday
4. NotesToday (the tiny blue dot, when shrunk, and then in drop down mode).
5. My modded version of QOTD.
6. cLaunch with some mods of my own.
7. SideX to run today plugins I don't need all the time, eg PocketWeather.
8. All running with SmallMenu Plus as my start menu.
Update (15 August 2005):
This is using a program I've written to provide a bigger Today Screen, removing the menu bar at the bottom. I use the bar at the top, so that stays put!)
Basic homescreen:
Showing NotesToday drop down:
Showing SideX today item (Floating keyboard):
Basic homepage showing my phone number popup - I use a dual sim so I can pop up my current telephone number (cus I'm too lazy to remember it!):
SmallMenu start menu button:
Showing my tool to relocate start button so I can have full screen applications:
Sorry for all the photos!

Phone Alarm + Pocket Plus 3 + Pocket Breeze
Here's mine..
Marsware WeatherPanel
SBSH PocketBreeze
SBSH iLauncher
RhinoStats
that's mine
Mine is just simple:
From top to bottom:
Spb Pocket Plus
PocketWeather
Phone Dashboard
XCPUScalar (The buttons at bottom and CPU load at top)
Pocket breeze / contact breeze
DK Today
SPB Pocket Plus
This is mine! Very simple, cause I don't want a crowded today screen. I have Pocket Plus 3 and Wisbar Advance 2.4 installed with a custom made Windows Mobile 5.0 theme. I can use it pretty much as a one handed device now, cause I have the cascading start menu onder the contacts hardware button and the REAL close button under the agenda hardware button. So I can navigate and close everything on my MDA by using the hardware buttons and the navigationkey. (Btw if you hold the action button the context menu will pop up, for more non-touchscreen action. ) Me iz happy.

I really really want that Phonealarm skin you have there......
dmmh - I haven't quite finished it yet; phoneAlarm still needs work on the textwindow (see the up/down arrows on the left? they blank the icons and show a textwindow containing info about SMSs etc. But Bruce (author of phonealarm) hasn't finished implementing it yet.
It still works well right now tho, shows calls/sms/voice calls (you get a red highlight when a missed call etc) and one click access to bluetooth and headset.
On the right you've got a display of profiles (I only use loud, vibrate, flight mode and silent). Clicking on the very left (invisible) will bring up config.
The whole thing is coloured to match my today theme, a plain magneto blue, to complement my OS X start button!
If you'd still like the skin, send me a PM.

I really like the "simple" today screens. Can you list what your using, from the top menu bar down.
Thanks
xcilion: it's beautiful, is it claunch, WDA, PPX or something else?!
Coming from the SPV Smartphone and p900 (WDA is like p900's Tracker software, which is a beautiful piece of software, highly recommended), I think the today screen should do that, show you what you're doing Today/let you use the phone at a glance on switching on the phone.
I think program menus/launchers should be programs away from the Today screen, because you've got to have Today plugins running in the background all the time, whereas launchers and apps you don't need often should be launched as needed to save resources (at least on HTC with smallish memory).
Did you remove the "NEW" taskbar yourself, or is that a 3rd party launcher? I've just made a tool to remove the NEW bar from normal today screen for an extra 26 pixels - yours looks great Size matters!

All: I've updated my screenshot to show this program I've written

Hi,
I've looked, clicked and sworn at it, but I just don't know how to get rid of the small bar at the very bottom of the today screen, just above the softkey indicators. At the moment it just has the (standard t-mobile) mini battery icon and the mini connection icon.
I've got no idea where the controller for this part of the today screen is. I'd really love to get rid of it altogether and have a few extra pixels for pocketplus. It just seems to be totally wasted screen real estate for me. I see other people have got useful stuff in this area, if there's a personalisation programme out there for it, please hit me up.
Cheers,
Chris
If you just want to remove those icons - which removes the tray as well - see this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=40133
If you want to remove it altogether, try:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=27331
And if you want to customize the tray with icons to specific apps, try "PHM TrayLaunch" - it's part of the PHM PowerToys - can probably be ripped out somehow and made stand-alone.
Sorry guys, ToggleToday is still WM2003 only right now. I'll update as soon as I get a few minutes. It's complicated to write, since the tray gets refreshed on screen rotations etc. And I'm just too busy to deal with it properly right now Soon...
V
Hey, thanks very much guys
PHM TrayLaunch looks like a very useful app, but I'm struggling to successfully add programs/icons. For example, if I want to have ActiveSync as one of the icons in the tray, does anyone know what should be entered as the "target"?
I'm afraid I don't have my phone in front of me, but trying navigating through your \windows\start menu and checking the properties for existing shortcuts.
Eg Find activesync, display properties, and it will display the target for the shortcut. That's your baby.

oops
Unfortunately I can't find a way to display properties for a shortcut - Explorer's "tap & hold" menu only allows you to cut/copy/paste etc - there's no "properties" window like there is on normal PC-Windows.
Fork, try gsfinder or another explorer replacement.
Also try having a read through this:

Thanks Vijay, I've downloaded Resco Explorer 2005 but cannot find the ActiveSync shortcut anywhere on my device! Does anyone know what the shortcut is to start ActiveSync?
It's not obvious!
\windows\replog.exe
V
Thanks for the reply Vijay, but replog.exe doesn't exist anywhere on my device.
Sorry, missed one letter
"\windows\repllog.exe" on my Universal.
V
Thanks Vijay, bizarely repllog.exe doesn't show up in my Windows folder using Resco Explorer, but setting this as the path gives me an ActiveSync icon in the tray - so it's obviously finding it.
Unfortunately, clicking the icon doesn't launch ActiveSync. It briefly displays "Connect to" in the top title bar before disappearing, and the Today page remains onscreen all the time.
Any other suggestions you can think of?
Thanks,
Fork, it depends on what state the activesync app is in at the time. It doesn't always like to show itself in my experience as well. Not entirely sure why. Sometimes when you're disconnected it will show, sometimes when you're connected it'll show?
In resco, ensure you're displaying hidden files, system files and rom files.
V
Thanks Vijay, I hadn't spotted that option in Resco Explorer - it shows up now.
hallo. how to remove it? I removed the battery and comm manager ones because I use PocketPlus and I've more space on today screen, but since I installed PI I've that right bar that I'd like to remove. any suggestion? thanks,
Open PI, go to settings, go to advanced, and you will see an option to enable/disable this function, hope this helps
At the bottom of the Today screen, you got your SOFT button functions written, and some icons for applications like Comm Manager & Battery.
Personally, I don't care for that section of the today screen.
I wish to use that space taken on my screen to have more TODAY plugins.
Is there such a mod/hack/registry tweak/whatever to do so?
you can remove the battery and comm manager icon by editing the registry like so:
Remove the Battery Icon:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Services\Power]
"ShowIcon"=dword:00000000
Remove the Wireless Manager Icon:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Services\WirelessMgr]
"Keep"=dword:00000000
As for the soft key buttons, I do not believe there is a way to remove that bottom bar.
there is a possibility to remove the soft keys from the today screen:
use VJToggleToday2alpha
i dont think that'll work on wm6
Use Wisbar Advance 3 to remove that.
VJToggle works on WM6.
VJToggleToday2alpha works very well on WM6

I've seen the registry tweaks for comm mgr and battery.. but have not seen anything for the icon I get when I put the phone ni vibrate mode, and the other various app-specific icons (ie. I think Pocket Informant stuck an icon there). Seems more like there needs to be a setting to say "tray icons are disabled" vs. disabling each specific tray icon...
