I just got my new Wizard ([email protected]).
As I used Magician ([email protected]) before, there is a smart dial option for the phone.
I can make a call with "ONE Finger" but in my Wizard..I have to scroll all contacts to make a call.
Is Smart Dial option available in others e.g. Qtek, i-Mate...etc?
Can please help to extract this for me???

If you go in the ftp under uploads\kjam you can find the extended rom of this device (imate kjam) that support smart dialing. Inside the extended rom there is a file named Default_SmartDialing_enable_0915_signed.cab. Perhaps this help you.

Copy the files to your ppc and run then from within the ppc exporer,
then it will be installed, you don't need to extract anything.

I final got the files "Default_SmartDialing_enable_0915_signed.CAB" and install into my Wizard Chinese Version.
But there are no different and no way to enable SmartDialing.
Would anyone can have a screen capture on it or show me how to enable it.
I still need to search thru the whole contact to start a call.

If you have a KJAM you already have smart dial.
To enable smart dial you have to open the dialer (press green button) and then press right softkey to open the menu, the bottom selection is SMART DIALING OPTIONS that enable/disable the function.
Here is the smartdialing cab...I have installed in chinese Dopod 838 (K-Jam) and no effect
I just think the files seems too small...do anyone know is it enough for installing SmartDialing????
Hey, I'm also using Dopod838 Chinese... The quick dial is enabled by default... no need to do anything in addition. When you're in the phone applet, press your right softkey and select "快速撥號 (I)" can setup speed dial numbers. 8)
He's refering to Smart Dialing, not Speed Dial Tse... The file size is correct miko... How did you install it? Did you copy the cab file to your storage card or whatever and run it from there?
One thing I missed, is the O2 Dial Wizard on my IIs.. It let you edit the number before dialing and set carding card prefix etc.. Too bad it doesn't seem to work on WM5 or my Exec
I recommend on using Phoneplus which I realized is suitable for WM5.
I have tried the CAB file and it is not working, too.
Anyone successfully run Smart Dialing on Dopod 838? I miss this application very much! :roll:
I found the CAB file actually only activate the smart dialing, which does not contain any program file. The program files should already installed in the K-Jam default ROM.
So I think the smart dialing will be able to run in Dopod 838 by copying the following files from K-Jam devices:
- \windows\phcanhtc.dll
- DPadMenu.dll

This is the Smartdialing program i used for XDAIIs before, u can try to install it into the 838, please give result after try.

I have tried to install the cab. However it doesn't work nor have any change to the dialer. I think it is for WM2003SE. So... we need the WM5 version of Smart Dialing that found in English K-Jam or English Dopod 838, or maybe Universal...

I made a "German Language Pack" (cab), which makes some german features available. See below
I am also working on a french version but I do nt have the french dictionary file for spell checking (mssp2_fr.lex) nor a french table for áà,... (sym.txt). If anyone could pm it to me I would be happy to update the language pack. Until then spell checking and symbols are as original only...
How-To:
1. download zip-file and unzip
2. copy cab-file to PPC
3. execute cab-file.
4. Softreset device
More information on the changes to registry and the included files are in the enclosed inf-file.
This tool was written for the Wizard device, but as the only Wizard-specific things are the settings for the hardkeyboard there shouldn't be any complications with other devices running WM5.
If anyone has suggestions for improving my little tool I would be pleased, if you could tell me!!

i cannot report for any Himalaya images as using a Wizard (i-mate ROM 2.16). But the little tool does nothing system-critical. It only adds a view files and changes some registry settings, which are pointing to these files or concerning language settings. Therefore it should work with any WM5-device and -ROM, without interfering with any other abilities. I guess the settings concerning the hardkeyboard will just be ignored if the device does not have one.
For further information on all actions taken by the tool, please have a look at the enclosed inf file.

transcriber doesn't work any more
I've just installed your french language pack on my Dopod with the latest Dopod rom 2.15.13.27 WWE and the transcriber doesn't work any more not in French neither in English. I get the message: Une erreur est survenue lors du chargement du moteur de reconnaissance de fichier.dll Vérifiez le chemin et la quantité de mémoire disponible.
I've followed your instructions and installed it successfully but I then got the message that the program was meant for an older version of WM and that maybe it would not work.
Is there a way to uninstall it without messing with the registry? My problem is worsened by the fact I can't manage a hard reset. I tried everything holding down the power button with the stylus in the small hole, sometimes also holding down the camera button at the same time, sometimes with the device turned on and sometimes turned off. No way, impossible to hard reset! Please help me, and thank you anyway for your work. I was very excited and I am now very disappointed.

sorry 'bout that. I wasn't able to test the french language pack myself. I have overlooked the file and cannot imagine why it shouldn't work as it is similiar to the german one which is working quite well. Information on the changed registry settings are in the enclosed inf-file.
But anyway you should be able to uninstall it with the WM5 built-in uninstall feature (Settings --> System --> remove(?) programs). Perform a softreset thereafter by long pressing the standby-button (not digging the reset hole!)
To Hard reset your device you have to press and hold the comm and voicedial buttons simultanously, then press the reset button (small hole) with your pen, while still holding the other two buttons for a while, until finally you are questioned if you wan to completly delte your device. You have to confirm by pressing the green button. Make sure you have a bakup - I'd recommend SPB Backup.

Thank you again for your kind answer. Actually I had to reflash my rom cause I couldn't do any hard reset. I was stupid not to think of removing the program first, since I didn't think it was a "regular" program. You mention the comm and voice dial buttons as two different buttons but actually on my Dopod it's only one button. Did you mean then the power and voice dial together, which coud make sense and which I didn't try cause nothing like it is mentioned in the user guide. Do you think I could have got the problem with your program because I used the stylus in the hole to soft reset my device after installing the french package. It is the procedure mentioned in the user guide for soft reset, contrary to what you tell me now. Thanks again
oh ok - I was assuming you have a HTC Wizard (don't know the dopod model number). If it's not a Wizard I have no idea how to hardreset it. But I hope you're using WM5, for my little utility is for WM5 only.
If you do a soft-reset after a change of the registry using the reset-hole the changed settings may not be stored on your device. That is because the registry-file is not immediatly updated after the changes, but stored in a temporary space and later (who knows when!) written to the file. So if you reset it by hardware-button the changes are still in the temporary space and therefore gone after the reset. If you do the reset by using software-reset function (provided by e.g. SPB Pocket+ or magicbutton) or simply switch off the device using the standby-button, the temporary space is written to disk before shutting down. That's it.

P.S.: I updated the language pack, cause I found a minor difference to the german one. (Compare inf-file) But I can't tell, that that was the problem.
My Dopod is a 818Pro with WM5, so it's a Prophet and practically the same as a Wizard, as I've seen in the forum. What you say about soft reset is very interesting since I haven't seen it discussed very often in this forum and i searched it quite thoroughly. Have you tried removing your program through the regular WM5 procedure? You seem to imply that the registry was not changed after my soft resetting with the hardware button, but it seems strange to me since after resetting I got the french warning I mentioned in my first post, and it was the first ever message in french from my english speaking device! Some change had definitely occured in the registry or somewhere else. Thanks again

Actually i successfull changed hardware keyboard but also spellcheck, dictionnary (i think even T9 but i'm not using it) and special characters to french and it's compliant with 3.2 rom(thanks faria). As i can see you package does not include those feature yet ... Are you interrested in getting those files and including them into you cab ?

Hi, I have installed the latest Imate ROM and have a few questions.
------- 1 SOLVED-------
1) How do you get the disconnect button for when you press the G and are connected to GPRS? As i only have a hide button.
------- 2 NEED HELP ------------
2) How do you set the hardware keyboard to the correct layout, as when i press ! on the keyboard i get ~. The normal alphabet characters seem to be fine, just a few symbols seemed to be messed up.
I am pretty sure they will be registry edits, but not sure which one!

have you checked your regional settings under "start/settings/system tab/ regional settings.
It may be that you have it set to the wrong locale.
I did try to post earlier but I kept getting php errors, so sorry for the delay.
I think you have flashed your unit with a incorrect ROM for your locale. Its always better if you can flash the original ROM provided by your vendor. If you really need to flash to different language (e.g. UK English to US English), then you have to use a utility called aekmap, with appropriate key map loaded.

I've exchanged many emails with the imei.check.co.uk team and also met personally one of these guys in order to be able to upload a new ROM to my O2 Orbit. I had excatly the same problem as many of you with ending the uploding process with "model invalid id" error message.
Now I'm happy to say we do have a solution.
So if you want to change your ROM (any), simply follow these instructions:

we found a way to flash ANY artemis roms in ANY Artemis look alike device (HTC Hero too).
Tools you need:
-hexworkshop from http://www.bpsoft.com/downloads/
-Any rom
-winzip or winrar
-http://www.imei-check.co.uk/C3v1Unlock.zip
a valid UNL file for your phone.
install hexworkshop and winzip/winrar
Take any rom for example: ART_HTCWWE_11240501_026790_WWE_Ship.exe
in explorer, right click on it and select "Extract files..."
Now it will unpack all the files
You'll have now "HTCWWE_shipsigned.nbh"
right click on it and Click "Hex Edit with Hex Workshop"
You'll see on the 5th row ARTE10000
Make it ARTE***** and save file
Now right click on ROMUpdateUtility.exe and "Hex Edit with Hex Workshop"
Search for word password.it will find it at 0x3E0B0 after password replace "BsaD5SeoA" with "IMEICHECK" and save the .exe file
Now connect the phone to the pc (normal way). run the C3v1Unlock.exe
when is asking for UNL file, disconect the phone from pc, press cancel, and
close the unlocker.
Now connect the phone back to the pc (in this mode it is) and run the
ROMUpdateUtility.exe
Now follow the instructions as the upgrade it will work.
After upgrade done, run the unlocker again and this time select the correct UNLfile.
Task Done.
C3 after flashing with any WIFI roms it will STILL not have WIFI!!!

yes, first you have to go to imei.check and pay for the unlocking program and the unique .unl file.
P.S. I'm not a member of imei.check, just had the same problem as many Orbit users here...you can find my previous thread.

Everything went smoothly but when the device rebooted, it want me to "align the screen". It doesn't seem to be able to detect the stylus touching the screen! Can't get past that screen! Anybody know what I could have done wrong?

It worked like a charm. The only problem I had was that when the Orbit re-booted after the process finished, it didn't seem to detect the sylus. I just waited five minutes and then it worked. Guess it was still getting settled in with it's new ROM. I don't know where I had the TomTom before I started the update, but it installed the German maps which were there before but as a bonus it gave me a English speaking voice which I didn't have before. It came with a German voice and I couldn't change because I had not yet upgraded the memory and had no room. So, my update was super! The only little thing is that once I changed the screen color back to blue instead of that terrible green, I couldn't get the phone part (dialing pad) to change to blue. No biggie, as now I can use my Orbit in English. I can live with the green phone pad! Maybe somebody will tweak that one. Hope this wasn't more info than you needed....

the dialing pad can be easily changed as well....just do a little seach on this Artemis forum and you will find many links pointing to skins available for WM5 phone edition.
O2 Orbit ROM upgrade info

my o2 orbit has ROM 1.25.206.2 WWE. I wanted to know if this is the latest ROM available for my phone. I got my phone 10 days ago and i gotta do a soft reset on it every day. I had the same kind of problems with o2 Atom. But most of the issues were corrected once the ROM was upgraded. Please someone update me on my situation. Thanks

Hmm, but the steps described above are necessary to follow only if your model is Orbit (ARTE200). If you have HTC P3300 or Dopod p800W or Artemis or MDA compact 3, then you don't need to do it this way. The only thing you need to do is to unlock with Imei-check. If it still doesnt work, contact their help desk.
Ok i see, very strange indeed. I did the unlock with the stuff from Imei-check but i still get the message ERROR [244] : INVALID MODEL ID . If i try the steps from your post #1 , i get the described error obove. I'll try to contact the guys from imei-check, i hope they can help me

wm6 doesn't recognize special characters like "." "@" "," and others.
with my old wm2003 i had to install after an hardreset a special cab to solve the problem.
i have tried this cab also in wm6 but without results.
does a fix exists ?
