alternative calendar software? - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

is there any software which can totally replace the windows mobile 6 calendar / notes system?
as the calendar/notes etc installed on my phone currently never save when trying to add a new one
TIA

why doesn't the informations save? most programs seem to still use the pim information and re-organize it...todayagenda is a good one, imo.

I second today agenda. But it will not resolve your issue. Neither will other software.
1. What Rom and device do you use?
(i know it's the wizard forum but these days you never know)
2. Have you performed a clear storage?
3. Have you tried a clear storage and then exiting when the customisation starts?
4. .............................

i changed to a different rom and the calendar now works ok

Have you notified the Chef of the ROM build about the calendar issue?

SPB Diary is another brilliant tool for diary, notes, tasks etc...

yeah i tried spb diary but it still wouldnt save any new items
ive posted the problem in the chefs thread but no one replied and also the thread didnt have anyone else mention it so i assumed it was a issue relating to my device or flash but i find the rom i have now works flawlessly so all good

That's why myself i'm sticking with NBD Rom from Zoki.
He reads the thread and regularly updates.
Enjoy you new ROM, but it's still weird that it didnt interact with the calendar.

Annoying problem with Sounds & Notifications

Hey, I have a problem with my incoming text message notification as well as the reminder notification.
No matter how many times i tap the 'Display message on screen' option it unchecks itself after a cerrtain time. same issue for the reminders.
Anyone else 'suffers' from the same symptoms ?
yes, i have the same problem, i guess its with the Dutty 2.1 extreme rom, also, i have strange problem where sometimes, the ringtone changes to some other then the one that we have set. and sometimes it doesnt ring as well.
any help?

Haven't experienced the ringtone changing, but the problem with the ringtone sometimes not ringing is a well documented bug with no fix as yet. Strangely it appears to happen mostly with Duttys 2.1 inc MSVC and not Dutts V2.1 WITHOUT MSVC. If you read the thread on Duttys V2.1 you will see this.
V2.2 is due for release soon and hopefully this bug will be fixed.
I'm using the original ROM and have the problem
I have the problem too, with the original ROM.
Is there a solution ? with mortscript?

Great , Thanks, wow, 2.2 is due, man, i need to do something as i want new roms but cannot afford installing all softwares and doing settings. any way around for it, as i usually install some usefull software, backup sms and restore and its a 4-5 hours process. any method you know using which i can just dump all my settings on the new rom . contacts emails are quick as i use exchange 2007, so they are synced pretty fast.
but what about settings like Advance Config, and Xt9 words , and IE and Opera Favourites etc. please help me for this.
Thanks Rikin

There are different ways of doing this. You can use PIM, SPB Backup or Sprite
In future instead of working hard to reinstall everything, why not just use a backup program like SPB Backup 2 or Sprite.
SPB Backup & Sprite are basically the same. You can use either of these to backup all your settings, including programs, ringtones, contacts etc, then if any problems materialise or you hard reset you use the backup file created to restore to your previous settings.
I have been advised by noris08 that when flashing to a new ROM each of them may have some issues and when you restore the apps, some of them will not work and some will generate some new conflicts
This issue has been explained before but either in this forum or somewhere else.
Another option is to backup personal things with PIM and to reinstall all apps from scratch

You can also check out SASHIMI. After the initial input, it's amazing how easy it is. I just came accross it and I'm still trying it out, but it seems to do the trick atm.

i install my programmes to the storage card, then use total commander after a rom install to create short cut links to programme folder, (although only installed one rom so far, and happy with it, so dunno if this would casue problems with other roms?)

I found this buried somewhere in either the Microsoft Active Sync help, one of the MS forums, and maybe here, too. But it was pretty obscure.
Caveat: I have NO CLUE as to WHY this should work, but it did.
Go to SETTINGS -> SYSTEM -> USB to PC.
Whatever the setting is, change it. It worked for me, despite the fact that it was the setting that I had to change to get Active Sync to work in the first place. I have no clue as to why the setting that would not let Active Sync work before now made it work now.
Just to really mess me up, as I check it now after having flashed S.V.I.'s Angel v.4, the USB to PC setting is changed back, but Active Sync has been working perfectly ... well, as perfectly as it ever did.
Sure hope this helps.
no. if i change it, it doesn't read it at all
thanks for trying though. i had some hope lol
Hmm. Try using DotFred's task manager to clear your duplicate notifications. I'm pretty sure it's already part of your ROM. Also clear your temp files out with ClearTemp. Cooks tend to forget this one, but it's a damn useful little program.
Chances are the first step will cure your problem. Shut the phone off completely in between steps, too.

Contact details gone, now contains "{\pwi<FDMID>9830431</FDMID>"
Since moving to WM6.5 ROM's (initially Miri's REV7, 7.1 and now Dutty's Leo R2) I noticed that any Contacts added to the TF3D Favourite Contact screen have lost data - specifically the free-format "details" field now contain just;
{\pwi<FDMID>9830431</FDMID>
The correct "details" were defo there prior to my re-flash this morning (from REV7.1 to R2) because I updated them yesterday. Fortunately I have an archive of my Contacts within Outlook so I can restore the data, but what a PITA.
I haven't used any restore utilities other than ActiveStink.
Has anyone else noticed this ?
Or even better, figured out why it happens ? and how to fix ?
PS: I'm not sure if this is the correct forum to raise this but as I've only noticed it since moving to WM6.5 ROM's, so I figure it's as good a place as any to discuss the issue.
TIA

I have noticed the same thing... I guess the strange data is entered by TF3D to store info relating to the "favorite"-status of that contact. Not sure, if there is any way to avoid that - although it definitely sucks if you don't know about it beforehand! Glad you had a backup!

Same here, I initially thought it was related to a Facebook link (you can tie a contact entry to a facebook entry WM6.5 (or HTC added this).
However, upon further investigation, it's linked to the favourites entries in Manila. This a terrible way to handle an extra field. I could like with them ADDING the pseudo tag to the Notes field, but not replacing the Notes field (thus erasing any genuine notes added by the user)
Not happy about this at all, since many of us use the Notes field extensively.

It is annoying that for the favorites contacts in the TF3D Favorite Contact screen have lost data, in the "details" field, where notes and such are kept.

Well known issue and complete screw up by HTC.
We 'think' it's related to HTC indexing your contacts so it can link them to Facebook and to the Manila shortcuts.
I would not have minded if they just 'added' this tag, but to replace the notes is dangerous and unforgivable (some of us have real data in there, and could lose it)
I had this problem too... Luckily i had some back ups
Issue resolve in latest Manila
Over the weekend I updated my ROM to Duttys LEO R6 (Manila 2.5.1920) and find that this Contact "Note" bug is no longer an issue
At first glance it seems that Manila is now using a new Contact Group called "HTC Favorite" to identify contacts on their favourites tab.
So folks, get our those Contact archives and start restoring your missing contact Notes.
However it's not perfect because if you have the same contact on both the favourties and home tabs then the contact is allocated into the "HTC Favourite" group twice - a minor acceptable buggette
What's wrong with ActiveSync?

If it is any help, it happened to me, but for the facebook linking mine got appended to the notes section, and still does this now. Not sure on teh favourites as had no notes on any of my favorites.
After careful consideration I've decided to move this thread to general discussion as its more of a backup issue when going between different versions of wm
it certainly isn't a backup issue...
bloody HTC, since I use Exchange, thus have my contacts on my phone and in my e-mail, I thought not to backup those... guess I was wrong
Lost alot of notes now ((
I also see the HTC favorites group (prob. because I changed Roms)
(btw, this happened on my HD2, so it's not a general HD topic)
I am experiencing this problem too on my HD2. Previous Touch HD did not suffer from this. Any fix discovered?
Furthermore, I have double-byte characters (Chinese) corrupted and became question marks in the Notes field beyond just pending the <FDMID>9830431</FDMID> string to the Notes field. In other instances, the string becomes <FDMID>9895967</FDMID><sn></sn>
Very frustrated by this data corruption!
hi the same thing happended to me using an omnia pro b7610 after installing Pocket Informant 9. the worst thing is that by the time I figured out about it I had already synced with MYPHONE so I mess all my contacts with notes
Reported the HD2 Notes data corruption to the HTC Support Centre. They acknowledged that it was a problem as they could reproduce it. Now waiting for a response and hopefully a fix?!
In the 2.5.2012XXXX version of HTC Sense, the way the data is stored in the notes field has changed from <FDMID>9895967</FDMID><sn>id:000000000/friendof:000000000</sn> to the following :
<HTCData><!-- Please do not modify -->
<Facebook>id:000000000/friendof:000000000</Facebook>
<Favorite>actionid:CallMobile</Favorite>
</HTCData>
And they use the HTC Favorite catagory for each contact add to the Quick Links.
I'm very sure it also adds the info to the notes field below any data that is already there.

best backup

hey im going to flash my rom to the latest one stated on the HTC website.
i have a HTC HD2 and i was wondering what one out of all the WM back up software there is out there is best and will back up the most..
what im really looking for is one similar to the symbian one by nokia where it restores your phone exactly how it was including settings and programs.
i know there is Sashimi, spb backup, Sprite backup, SKTools, PimBackup, spb clone, Resco Backup.
i have loads of reg tweaks and modified files and would like them to be restored after my rom update.
i know that sprite will not allow you to restore after an upgrade the rom..
spb clone looks good but not sure if it work and don't want to buy it if it dose not do what i want..
thanks

The best thing to do if your flashing a new rom is to re-install all programs/tweaks. do not restore them after flashing. Restoring is only ok as a back up on the same rom if you for example messed up something & had to Hard reset.
Although you can backup & restore yor PIM data & messages with any of the apps you mentioned. I pesronaly use SPB Back up.
What about favorites, and email settings, ring tones.. or registered apps?

Favorites ok.
The rest not recommended.
will any of the above software enable me to reinstall purchased software (like items from the marketplace)? otherwise i don't see how to do it.
I use Microsoft MyPhone
Does contacts/messages/pictures/documents... does not do applications - but if you've got a large enough SD Card you can just keep a back up of the cab files you've installed in a folder (that's what I do anyway).
With the registry - why not make a back up of the registry and pop it into the backup folder or something?
yeah i like Microsofts MyPhone, its realy handy and with free data i sync up every morning.
with programs i just try to install as much as i can on my micro SD card and with the new markedplace version you can default that nice one.
registry tweaks is not that bad to restore for me, so not a problem here
Phattypab,

PIM backup? you can add as much or as little to backup.
TBH settings and configs are relatively pointless. If you only have a couple or so email accounts then it is little trouble - especially with nice HD2 keyboard.
I know it's nice to have it all setup, but just write down a list of the things you have to do - hopefully you will not be flashing all that often - and things can go wrong if you try to apply a bad registry setting or general setting.
STill, back it all up then selectively restore is another option. Bit by bit until it messes up.
Messages+contacts are key IMO. everything else is not critical, especially if you keep cabs and use Tom's auto-install.

Htc slowing down

I have had my HTC for 1 week now and it has started to slow down has any one had any experience with this problem, I also have noticed my weather location is not working properly I dont know why I would appriciate it if some one can help.

I assume you are using stock rom?
Sometimes slowdown could be due to installation of a software. Try to think of any software that might cause the slowdown.
But I think slowdown is unavoidable for most electronic devices, a month old laptop can never be compared to a same but new one.
If you wish, you can consider trying out some custom roms. They generally has better performance compared stock roms. Less junks and faster.

Installing a new ROM will remove all the stuff on phone memory. It's just like reformating a pc. If you don't like the rom, you can always try another rom.
There are plenty of stuff you need to know first before flashing a rom.
If you are new to this, make sure you read alot before doing anything to your phone. Everything you need to know can be found in the ROm Development section.

I'd recommend the Leopard 6.5.5 ROM, once you enter PIN, after that it's instantly usable, been using it for a few months now, constantly amazes me.
1) try to think if you really need the application before you will install it. Most of the apps leave lots of garbage after you uninstall them, so the phone is getting slower and slower.
2) use the program like cleanRAM
3) there is no "the ultimate ROM" - try a few - if you dont like particular one - try another. Just do not fall into the 'ROM changing addiction'
4) there is the difference between 6.5 and 6.5.x. If you used the stock ROM only, and you are used to have "Start" on top then (with 6.5.x) you will fill odd having the start on bottom - dont worry - you will use to that

its a program that clears all apps running in background and uses the free RAM for quicker processing.
also, I would recommend you to use a task manager in order to actually close applications after your donee using them instead off just minimizing them. because if you were like me when I first got my phone, I was so used to the iphone/android lack of multitasking, that I would always just push the home button to exit out of apps.however windows leaves them running in the background which causes a lotof slowdowns.
slowing down....confusing?
hi every body....
i've in some how the same problem...i mean the slowing down...
but i think the word i use is a little incorrect...because my phone works fast, and well but for example sometimes when i go to mesages, for a few seconds it slows down in changing messeges and then again works as fast as possible...or as an other example some times this happens in my contact list or my home screen...esp. when the weather is cloudy and lots of clouds are moving in my home screen
but i think the overall perfomance of my phone is still like the begining day...
i thought that the problem is due to some programs that i have installed like showcase task manager or touch x power but i removed them and still some times esp. in my home screen i have the problem!?
and by the way i''m using stock rom,WM 6.5 1.66.707 WWE and í've bought my HD2 about a week ago...
i'll be glad if any one knows about how the problem could be solved?!...or even to say that it's a problem or not!?...tnx
same here
yeah i've barely had the phone about two weeks and within the first three days it started slowing down. ESPECIALLY in the messages, and even more when i had the swype text input so i took that off. and at times i wouldnt even recieve the message. my phone's screen would light up as if i was about to get a message and i checked nothing was there but my friends told me they texted me and apparently i didnt receive. i want to try a new rom. but i really dont understand what cab files, tweaks, and things of that sort are. i've rooted my g1 before but never messed with a windows phone
Yeah this is really starting annoy me, I don't want to install a new ROM as I don't understand them but I want my phone back up to speed. Need more ideas please

Well i dont exactly now but for sure all your programs. Sms and contacts can you backup with MyPhone or copy contacts to simcard or synchronize them with outlook.
Edit I investogated a little bit spb backup also backups contacts, sms and email. so only spb nacup should be enough.

There's no need for any hard resets. Connect your phone to a PC and check out how much free space your device (NOT the SD card) has left. If it's below 30, then there's your problem. Just use cleartemp and cleanram, move games and other apps from the phone memory to the card, and you should be ok. If the problems still persist, then I strongly advise you to flash a new ROM and see if things get any better. Peace!

Just use cleartemp and cleanram, move games and other apps from the phone memory to the card, and you should be ok. If the problems still persist, then I strongly advise you to flash a new ROM and see if things get any better. Peace!
