Can anyone please help with GPRS settings for an O2 XDA IQ smartphone with a UK T-Mobile PAYG sim??
Found settings on net but can't get it to work?
sim works in phone to make calls text etc & 'G' is displayed on top bar.
Any ideas??

Orange (UK) now do pay as you go GPRS. They do it both on airtime contracts for £3/MB and on pay as you go (no contract) for £4/MB.
Someone on this board already posted settings for the contract/payg GPRS (£3) option. I am trying to get it running on payg/payg (£4) option.
I have the GPRS connecting, but web browsing doesn't go anywhere.
Anyone else tried with success ?
Are there any ipconfig like utils for the XDA so I can troubleshoot it ?
My XDA works on Orange
I just got my XDA working on orange
phone number *99#
access point name orangeinternet
Thats it, when you connect it asks for username, password etc, ignore this and just hit connect

I'm slightly confused by your response.
The access point orangeinternet is only for use by (voice) contract sims, and the access point payginternet is for use with payg sims.
Are you using a contract sim or a payg sim ?
If your using a contract sim you missed the point of the original question.
If I try to connect to orangeinternet with my payg sim no connection is made. If I connect to payginternet, a connection is made but no data is transferred.
delhaze,
have you managed to set it up on payginternet?
I'm trying to work it out myself. I sure would love to know whether you have got it going.
Cheers !

I have recently unlocked my phone so that I may use it on Vodafone as the O2 coverage in my area is not the best.
My question is is it possible to log onto to the Vodafone GPRS system with my XDA.
If so how do I configure my XDA so that it works.
Awaiting With Interset Your Replies

im having the same problem
GPS
Youll need a slieve or gps reciever for the nav system to work. it will work fine with vodaphone, just not on its own as a hand set.
Vodafone GPRS Settings
Hi Vodafone GPRS setting on XDA are as follows: Start/Setting then connection tab, click Connections and on My ISP, add a new modem connection. Enter name i.e. Vodafone then select modem type Cellular Line(GPRS).Internet Access point is 'Internet' if your on contract, and 'pp.vodafone..co.uk' if your on pay as you go. Next user name is web and password is web. That's it your done, go surf.
Re: Vodafone GPRS Settings
Tried your connection setup as suggested and got the message 'No modem at above number'. Any clue what next, Thanx
Vodafone GPRS Settings
As far as I can see these settings work fine on the XDA1, I do not have access to a XDA2 so i cannot confirm if these settings will work on XDA2.
Doh! after categorically stating I had followed gadgetnet's advice and couldn't still get web access on my xda2 I have to eat humble pie. Gadgetnet's advice is spot on but ofcourse technonerds like me have to first of all check that their service provider has GPRS enabled their sim cards. I got Vodafone to enable GPRS on my sim (simply a phone call request made to their call centre) and half an hour later I was surfin in fine style. Remember if you want to access Adult sites like the National Lottery you have to go on line by other means to the vodafone website and set it up. Takes about 15mins with credit card as ID of age.

Followed gadgetnet's instructions to the letter, worked a treat first time. Really impressed with the service far better thatn O2's. So thankyou gadgetnet.

Hi, just sold my crappy iphone & now back with an xda 2 orbit.
I have a pay&go sim with a £7.50 bolt on for unlimited internet so I can use my skype over gprs 3G but I cannot connect, when i try to load o2 user settings i only have in the drop down list post pay uk gprs not prepay uk gprs.
I have tried the ireland pre pay gprs & Isle of man pre pay gprs but none work?
o2 are telling me because i dont have uk prepay gprs i cannot access the internet & need to go on a contract Mmm.
Does anyone have the settings or are o2 trying to get money out of me by signing up to a contract.

Quick question - as ever i've searched but not found anything in the Blackstone forum, so pre-emptive apologies if it's right under my nose..
On the HTC Touch HD Handset - Connections ; Network Management, it gives the option to choose between "mobile web" and "O2 active."
can someone please tell me which is superior / faster (if either) and what further configuration settings i may need to change to get the best signal & performance? Im on a pre-pay contract with the monthly Bolt On of "Unlimited" Internet form O2.
many thanks
I use mobile web and the speed seems ok. I can't remember if I ever bothered with the O2 Active.
Anyway you can try either using the websites you will most likely be accessing. I'd say you should clear the browser cache before each website test. An Edge connection is best from my research but I am not really bothered for what I use the mobile for.
At the end of the day if you need supreme speed you have to use the desktop. Hope that helps.
You use the mobile web connection for Internet access. The O2 Active setting is WAP and used for MMS.
Remember if you are on PAYG, you need to use the PAYG settings, not pay-monthly. Change the APN from mobile.o2.co.uk to payandgo.o2.co.uk, ussername=payandgo, password=password
I am with o2 pre pay contract.
Just some info if your using an old sim card that you`ve had for a couple of phones (upgrades), i found out my sim card wasn`t a 3G sim card. In my blackstone all i got was the edge network, After contacting o2 they sent me a new sim card and i now pick up the HSPDA network, which is indicated by H.
You can tell by looking at the serial code on the sim . It should say 3G at the end of the serial.
Does anyone know how to configure their o2 connection so that GPRS is enabled but not 3G. I am having trouble as when I try the settings always shows as 3G?
