In my P3600, but I supposed in all models, in Tom Tom screen with the satellites map, in the top-left corner where are the coordinates, below them there are two additional informations: on the left there is the degree symbol (º) and on the right the speed (km/h).
What "º" stand for? Usaullay the value it's too high to be a temperature, even for Farenheit degrees.
I looked for an explanation in both P3600 and Tom Tom instructions online, but I could not find anything. Does somebody knows the meaning of that symbol?

Check this out: http://www.mobilosiranytu.fw.hu/
I think you're looking for something similar.
I try to translate to English the description:
"This program is not an original compass. This program has the ability to calculate the angle between the northern direction and the direction of the sun (or the moon) by the knowledge of the actual place and time. This angle showed on the display by an orange (the Sun) and a blue (the Moon) arrow. You have to rotate one of the arrows towards the right direction (the orange towards the Sun or the blue towards the Moon), and the compass will show the right directions...."
well my phone has GPS... isnt there any software which i can use as a compass ?
There's so much gps software now, tomtom has a wee compass in it but I think you don't want that, maybe there is something here:http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-tag-gps.html
does the compass in nokia n97 is hardware compass
wait maybe i am wrong...but when we go north i'm sure the lattitude numbers goes up or down??
i know by standing we won't get it...atleast by walking couple of metres it should pick up the lattitude numbers....and see if we're going north....??

GPS-based compasses compare two positions to know your direction, while a real compass is a magnet that interacts with the earth's magnetic field to know where you are looking (without moving)
I'm looking for app that uses hardware compass. GPS compass is no use if you are indoors. Anyone?

Why would you want that if you don't have a hardware compass built in phone?
Solution: Buy a compass and sticky-tape it to your phone

If you have a Diamond, Touch Pro, or any other device with a magnetic stylus, simply attach your stylus to a piece of cork, and float it in the nearest body of water. Voila! Compass.

The magnet is in the device, not the stylus
GPSSpot is the app your're looking for.
It is a digital compass which uses your phones built-in GPS receiver.
I use it, it works really well, and it also allows you to save waypoints.

My Touch HD has magnetic stylus as I can stick it to my PC case, fridge and so on
have you guys tried the new google maps app for windows mobile?
somehow when i start my gps it points to my true direction when using the new google maps app.
spikegotti: I think google maps points to the north when started and when you move, it calculates your direction from your previous position
Hey, I would like to use a compass with my TP2, any nice app available?
You'd only get some form of GPS compass as there is no magnetic compass in the TP2 like there is in the 3GS...
I love how apple put a relatively useless app into a phone and then all of a sudden everyone wants one
Well, it's Apple, man. they can make canned sh*t and everybody will want it. They are godlike on marketting.
As for the compass, no there isn't one, only GPS compass, and then again, you need to have a signal.
You can try this thing I found while googling and binging, Here at softpedia
jeah, f**king hype.. why the hell somebody needs a compass, although most navigationsoftwares got it integrated
iPhone users need the compass to navigate, obviously!

We have GPS, which gives us a reference point in space. We have a G-sensor, which gives us rotation with reference to center of the earth. Problem is, these two only let our phone know where it is, and how high it's looking, whether down at the ground, up into the sky, or somewhere in between. It also tells it which way it's tilted (clockwise/counterclockwise). However, we need at least two points of reference to give an exact orientation of a device. A compass can do that with north pole being the second reference. With all three sensors a phone can not only tell where it is, but also exactly what it is looking at (not just how it's tilted or where it is in relation to the horizon). With information like this, we would also be able to teach the phone to know what it is looking at, not just where we are (as current GPS software does). Here's a great example of what's possible with a compass:
http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2009/...-layar-is-worlds-first-augmented-reality-bro/
I can see where this is going. Sure it's fun for games, presentations, virtual tours, etc, but hey, I really wonder if someone is stupid enough to actually use to use the compass with the GPS when finding a spot. I can imagine, "In 200 Meters turn RiGhT. You are NOt LooKING at ThE RIghT WaY. In 10 MeTErs Turn your head LeFT, You have ARRiVed."
That would be me
I'm as dense as an iphone user. I get really confused when google route tells me to head east. Not good at navigating by clouds, or stars for that matter.

true as that may be, how can they see the compass if the phone is in their arse? bluetooth earpiece telling them which way maybe?
So I can't figure out if my GPS is a hardware or software problem. If hardware, I will probably try to exchange the Vibrant, but I cant figure out which it is.
I have read though a lot of the thread on the GPS hardware fix, and I still can figure out if mine is hardware or software problems.
The Date on my original box is 6/30/2010, so I know it falls into the date range when some had hardware problems.
So this is why I am not sure:
It seems like on all Roms I can get a GPS lock within a minute using GPS Status app. Depending on the Rom I can lock on anywhere from 4 to 9 satellites out of 10 or 12 with decent accuracy. I though that with a hardware problem I would not get that lock.
The problem is in Google Nav. No matter which Rom I am using, it Google Nav has problems. Like I said, I open GPS Status and make sure I have a solid lock, then open Google Nav. When Navigating, I always either get a freeze and then Signal Lost, or lots of re-routing especially when sitting at a traffic light.
So no matter which Rom I use I get a satallite lock on usually 6 or 8 sats out of 10 or 12, but google nav always looses the signal or re-routs me or just freezes.
It always seems like I have to get a lock using GPS Status before opening Nav too.
So Please help me out. Do I have a hardware or software problem? If hardware, i really dont want to open my phone to try the fix, I would rather get a new one while under warrenty
as i am typing i have mine on with gps test i get 10 bars out of 12 in view but it's not locking. they all range from 20 - 24.

There are a lot of software apps to try like gps restore gps aids master gps etc. In a hardware thread at the end one suggested putting something between the back plate and next to the sims card. That is one way to tell if its hardware or software.

can you elaborate a little more on that, as far as where to put it to tell if hard ware or software?

There was someone in the hardware gps fix thread who ordered a combo of power/vol button + some accessories. You can search for his post somewhere in the thread
Hello I have a problem with compass which shows wrong direction on map apps (google maps for example). Error of correct pointing direction and showing on map is not constant sometimes it is ~60 degrees, sometimes ~140.. I have some cheap casing with magnet maybe it is its fault? But I tried to use it after removing phone from case, but still the same. And I am not 100% sure, but it was same before this case.
What can I do? Some kind of calibration or what? Or is this some faulty compass sensor?

Cases with magnets causing compass issues has been a known since the G1.
I would loose the case, and try to calibrate the compass using the figure 8 method. Search YouTube for it.
Just installed unbranded 10" Android 10" unit. Very happy except GPS not working.
Google Maps nav screen appears, but location is not received. Maps stalls at "computing best route", so Maps app is working, it just has no input.
Antenna was reported installed by installer.
A GPS test screen shown in a "toolbox" app on the unit shows indecipherable data strings all beginning with "$" No vertical bars under "GPS State" and one vertical bar under "Glonass and Beidu".
Lat and long fields are blank.
Next steps for troubleshooting? Swap out the antenna? I wish I had a known-good.
Install GPS toolbox from Play Store to see if it changes anything.
Do you know where is your GPS unit fitted? Maybe needs to be repositioned
Check if it is plugged in properly

Antenna positioned directly above head unit, beneath plastic dash. Didn't observe installation. Reluctant to disassemble, but it may come to that.
I'll look for GPS Toolbox, thanks.

Turns out installer mounted the antenna on edge. Removed it, re-installed it horizontally and GPS sprang to life.
