Windows Media Player skin

Hi there,
When I want to use another skin for the Media Player 10 Mobile, a neat Media Player 11 skin, I copy the skinfiles in a folder called "WMP11" to \Program Files\Windows Media Player\.
The MP finds the actual skin in the options menu tab "Skins" and when I select the skin it has been succesfully applied.
The thing is, when I close the Media Player (real closing not minimalize) and open it again, it always starts to look for skins and I then need to reselect the MP11 skin.
How can I push the Media Player to avoid this and to let it handle my own skin the same as the default one?

i did what u did exactlly but it doesnt work with me

me too have tried this and now whenever i start my wmp it takes almost 30-40 secs to load infact it has become slow from earlier even now i have deleted that skin file.

I installed some sh!tty player on on my precious wizard, then removed it. Now I can't open my media files with wmplayer. I mean I can open them from the inside of the player, but not when I browse them from file explorer. I looked for reg edit command to change the program media files open with, but now luck? Anybody knows how to do this?
Also I cannot seem to get my image vieweing thing to do a slideshow.

Just choose the file you want to play in file explorer and then click menu-->open path-->new path and direct it to WMP in the windows folder. After that, all of your files of the same type should open with WMP again, atleast that's how you fixed it in WM2003 anyway. I haven't had to try it in WM5 or WM6 to know for sure.
I don't know about the slideshow thing though, I've never used that before.

The crappy player you installed was associated with (wav) files that are for windows media player. Try re-installing that same player, look at its file associations, uncheck (wav) may have kept settings after removal, and then remove the player again if you still don't want it. soft re-set, check files in file explorer, and if all the above actuated, the files should have the wmp icon. Word of advice from experience....always remove settings from programs that were installed before you remove that program. As far as slide show, are you meaning where songs play in sequence (queued up)? By the way, what was the crappy player? I've removed a few of them myself..

hey guys thanks much for replies. Xeno I couldn't get the path thing to work. If I type in \windows\wmplayer.exe it just opens player in library mode, doesn't change the way it opens either. The player was pocket dvix player. I was looking for something that will play AVI dvix and xvid files. Now I installed something called TCPMP pocket pc player and it works very very well.

TCPMP is way better than WMP anyway. Sorry the open path didn't work, but like I said, I wasn't sure if it still worked that way or not in WM5 and 6. Atleast now you have a better media player. TCPMP is the only player I ever use.

Got home, checked! I knew I couldn't be a geek like that. Archive contains all files, some of them are hidden and you need to set your OS to show hidden/system files.

I haven't met this issue before but try this:
Back-up everything in your skins folder to your PC, delete everything and put the files from the archive in that folder. It should work.

my problem is : the ok seems to not work , it is like i make no change , I just try wth another setting in WMP and it doesn't save ( time to display : remaining instead of default , defaut is kept !!!!!)

Never seen anything like this.
Soft reset maybe? (I would have said Hard reset but it's a pain losing all your programs because of a Media Player skin issue)

I see a problem
in the original folder on my PC I see nothing ( I display hidde files !!!)
so I can't copy all from my p3300 to PC
I try to install another program than media Player and I'll say you

On your PC, go to folder options and check "Show hidden files and folders" and uncheck "Hide protected operating system files". Now you should be able to copy everything from your Trinity

I've seen the problem , sure it help some other guys
In fact I have installed Task manager before and I have customized the single Tap X for closing application and that was because the OK doesn't work , it was closing the setting instead of saving
Now I've set to Tap and hold X and it works fine

AlbumArt related
Thought I'd write a few lines regarding AlbumArt, for those who might have problems displaying them.
The easiest way of getting album art to display on you Windows Mobile Media Player is to copy them to your device through Windows Media Player, aka synchronize them.
Files and albums in your PC library have tags and if instructed so, Windows Media Player downloads automattically/manually the album information of these files. This consists of ID tags plus album art. There are four files Windows Media Player downloads as album art: AlbumArt_{xxx}_Large (usually 200x200 px.), AlbumArt_{xxx}_Small (usually 75x75 px.), AlbumArtSmall (usually 75x75 px.) and Folder (usually 200x200 px.). These files are set attribute hidden.
When you sync music files with Windows Media Player to your device, it automatically copies these files to you device and Windows Media Player Mobile displays them.
Now, if you do not wish, for some reason, to have Windows Media Player download this information for you or you have a custom CD cover you'd like to use, it is enough to create a Folder.jpg (200x200 px.) inside your album folder and it will display the album art.
If you wish to manually add albums to your Mobile Device and/or having problems with displaying the album art, you can follow the step described above to create a Folder.jpg with the album art and Windows Media Player Mobile will display it.
Here comes the tricky part. The 200x200 px. album art images are great to be handled by Windows Media Player but they appear jerky on Windows Media Player Mobile. That is because the latter uses another album art image size to display. 200x200 px. album art files will show up, jerky though, but if you'd like to have a neat look of the album art files on your mobile device, resize the images to 154x154 px. (this is the dimension this skin uses) and you will get a neat result like the one attached.

Media Player Touch themed skin!
I've been using the available Touch skin for Windows Media Player (credits for that go to monoberlin) untill I have discovered that while playing videos, they were not displayed right.
So inspired by that theme I have built a skin that has the issue fixed.
Hope you like it!
Skin uses 144x144 px album art for best displaying results in portrait mode and 112x112 px in landscape mode.

Videos display better in portrait mode because it allows larger overlay display. Anyway, I've made the landscape too and updated the archive.

Backing Up Playlist

As I mentioned in my other thread, I'm playing with different ROMs at the moment. I use the built in TF3D music player and I am wondering if there is a way to backup playlists so when I change roms, I don't have to keep making my playlists?

I use SPB Backup and it automatically backs up my playlist for me. Saves me loads of time as I flash bascially everyday

As this is still an issue, I'm bumping it.
I had a look at SPB Backup, but I didn't like the look of it, I couldn't see how to just backup the playlist?
Surely when you make a playlist it is stored somewhere? I see application data/HTC/AudioManager_Eng there is a playlist folder, but it remains empty...

I think if you have playlists created with .asx files using WMP for some reason the HTC Audio manager will use these instead of it's own .txt file playlists. Not sure of a way round this without further dabbling Maybe you can just add .asx to the .txt playlists (if you have them) and use it that way, then back those up? Manual back up I mean to storage card from device wich is the only back up I ever use.

No, I don't even have the txt version I don't think. If someone can post just a clip of one please, I can probably edit it to suit me

Here is an example of one of mine which you can open in a text editor. My usual ritual after flashing is to copy my playlist folder to the Application data/HTC/Audio manager folder. However, since I have been using Media Player with WM6.5 I notice that HTC Audio Manager chooses those .asx playlists instead. You could also create a one song playlist with HTC Audio Manager, locate and open the file and use that as a template in a text editor maybe.

Ok, so I made my own with 4 tracks in it. I tried with no file extension, with .asx and with .txt and none work. Strangly, I see a playlist called 'Playlist' in HTC Audio manager, but when I go into it's empty. I add some tracks, they don't appear in the file when I bring it back off the device, it still has the 4 I put in myself.
Any ideas?

My own experience is that HTC have chosen not to make this easy. Sometimes I have copied the playlists into the Application Data Folder and I haven't been able to use them for sometimes more than a day. I think soft resetting and pulling the storage card in and out a lot helps. It's not quick and simple. Might be something else though.

Music library problem

Is it possible to define a folder where the music library should get all the music? I have files from G-Alarm and so on in it but can´t find a solution how to delete them outta the library..

Same problem here, every sound file type is shown there...

anyone an idea??

Annoying as hell... HTC needs to update this to allow us to point to a specific folder! I tried googling the issue but didnt come up with a solution...

Have you tried HIDDING the specific folder using an alternative explorer (like Resco explorer or Total Commander) ? In Total Commander, long press on the specific folder, choose "properties". There you can choose the attribute "system" and click on "recurse subdirs" so it applies to all files under that folder. This works to hide image files from the ALBUM, so there's a good change you'll fix this using the same method.
By the way, talking about Music library, do you experience some crashes of the music player after adding new files using mp3 cable? If so, this thread might interest you. I think there are problems with the way the player handles the ID3 tag of mp3.
Read this and relay the info, please.

I tried hiding some folders but then they get shown no where! For example: tried to hide g-alarm folder and the alarm tone also disappeared in the G-Alarm app... never expected crashes!
but the volume up & down buttons dont really work while i´m in the music app! when im on the home screen and mp3s are playing in the background, volume keys work perfectly no idea

I even went into the registry to HKLM\Software\HTC\AudioManager_Eng\Config and changed the device scan path and fooled around with other stuff... nada... everytime after a soft reset, it still had ALL the system sounds and stuff in there.
Also, in that same registry folder, there is a ring_tone_path entry which probably explains why some of the ring tones don't show up....??
Can someone who knows a little more about this stuff enlighten us?

a workaround:
create playlist with one ore two files (songs).
after than close today-htc-sense.
open \Application Data\HTC\AudioManager_Eng\playlists\name-of-your-playlist
and put all your wanted songs in it (i mean, you have to write/edit the file)
tip: use cmd (dos) for trickies like "dir c:\folder\with\my\songs\ > c:\playlist"
you will get on c:\ a file with name "playlist". this could be use for editing "manila-playlist". put this file after finished back to \Application Data\HTC\AudioManager_Eng\playlists\ and starts your today-htc-sence.
i know, its a little bit grrrr and looks like work for end-of-life, but i say its a workaround and after three or four playlists you will be a profi.

Found a solution.
This will only work if you have your music on SD card. I also have tomtom maps there but no actual tomtom so for me it is only music on sd card.
1. Start from removing your card and then going to music tab so it rescans and states no music found. (Skip to step 3 if you are starting from clean rom)
2. Go to registry editor of your choice and navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\AudioManager_Eng (for german it will be AudioManager_Ger)\Information
Delete all items in that folder. You will not be able to delete Information it self.
If you are on clean rom you will not even have that folder it is created 1st time when music tab finds music.
3. Navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\AudioManager_Eng\Config
In there change:
"device_scan_path_path" from what ever there is to \Windows
"device_scan_path_path_0" from what ever there is to \Windows
"ring_tone_path" from what ever there is to \Windows
What this will do is exclude all files in windows folder. If you have any files in my documents they will show up. I assume if you just put "\" instead of "\Windows" it will exclude entire my device but did not test it.
4. Soft reset, insert your SD card and enjoy.
