I dropped my 8525 and now the camara button does not work everything else is working fine and i can open the camara but I cant do it with the defalt camara button so I changed the hot button to the useless ptt button but it will only open the camara not take pics I believe itz internal with the button so I have 2 questions one can i make the ptt button take pics and just use it and 2 is it a bad idea to try and open up the phone my self and see whats wrong? thanx in advance
A: I don't think you can map the camera to take pics with the PTT button. The center button on the 4way pad will snap pics for you.
B: The button fix might be a simple mechanical one....if you're going to attempt disassembly, have a camera handy and take notes so that you can get it back together.

I wonder if there is any utility somewhere or trick on the Qtek to get it so you don't have to hold down the record button during the course of recording - I want to be able to press the button once, do my recording, press it again to stop.
Another frustration is w/ the camera button. It seems you have to turn on the Qtek first, and THEN the camera button will work. This makes for great inconvenience if you just want to pick it up and take a quick photo.
Somebody referred me to a Japanese program called BtnPlus but I can't get an installer for the relevant processor. Are there any other button reprogramming programs out there?
My camera button suddenly stopped working. I can load the camera app from programs with no problem. But I can not take a picture.
Any ideas on a fix?

You can also take pictures with the central D-pad button - has that stopped working as well?

Any one have a fix for this issue short of replacing the main board?
My Hermes (Cingular 8525) is experiencing this problem as well.
Have you checked the Settings then Buttons menu and made sure that button #4 didnt get mapped to another program?
Yeah, its mapped to the camera. I tried remapping that button to other apps, but its a no go, won't launch other apps either.
Perhaps its bad hardware...
After soft reset any button seems to launch camera on first press (Windows Button, OK button, and Comm Manager) but after that they take on their normal operations. Camera Button does not seem to do anything though.
Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I was recently having the same issue.
My Camera button (button 4) does not work, even if it is remapped to something else.
I can open the camera from the programs menu, and can take pictures using the center button.
However, I'd like to be able to fix this button so I can use it, possibly for something else. The button does not make a subtle click when it is pressed all the way down, like the Comm Manager button does. Is it possible to remove the button and clean the area underneath somehow?
I am using an AT&T WM6.0 ROM

EDIT: I have opened the back case before (partially), since I had to reconnect my speaker wire. I'm hoping this would be able to be fixed in a similar way. It seems like a alignment/cleaning issue instead of an actual broken switch, but if its not worth the trouble (i.e. it risks messing up the motherboard), then I won't pursue it.
Google "PTT Fix" and remap the ptt button with the camera button.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm on T-mobile USA Prepaid, so I'm pretty sure that they don't I don't even have push to talk.
Still, it'd be good to have one extra button to map.

Just go to START>SETTINGS>BUTTONS> and see what you can cook up...
Im sure you have at least 1 Button that you dont use...

Yeah, once I get a good ROM on here, I will probably have them all mapped to commonly used apps. The more buttons the better.

Suddenly my camera button has broken, the switch is out, and now I can´t take photos. I have tried to pre-assing another button (voice recorder) to do so but it doesn't work. Anyone knows how could I take a photo via Software no Hardware? On the Camera display I miss a little button enabling to take a photo.

When I use the camera and press the shutter button, I found that it is unable to focus when I press half shutter. The screen is flashing between focusing and the normal camera UI. But there is no problem when I press the shutter firmly to take photos. Any people have the same problem?
Camera button - Not working at all!
Having a different problem... My camera button will fire up the camera fine, but it becomes inactive after that. In other words it can't be used to focus or take the shot. I have to use the fiddly D-Pad to take a picture.
It seems this might be a button mapping issue, I am using AEButton Plus, but even disabling that hasn't solved the problem. I am sure this could be fixed by a registry setting.
I really can't take the hard-reset option as I have spent a long time getting everything how I want it and restoring a backup afterwards will cause the problem to come back.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

Umm....its hard trying to understand what u typed. but I think you're having a problem with getting your camera to start with the side camera button right? well I had the same problem at first, but then I figured out that you have to press the camera button further down to get it to work. doing a soft press on the button is used for focusing the camera, thats why you have to press it down hard
Hold the camera button down until the screen changes to a gray logo of a camera. Should load from anywhere on the phone
In camera, go to settings icon and choose thee shooting mode (button will have different behaviour depending on which shooting setting you choose)

Sony Ericssons have camera buttons to be pressed at almost very hard for it to turn the camera on. (well unless if the cellphone have lens cover.)
Then taking a picture takes a couple of seconds late that is, pressing soft for focusing, then press hard for taking a shot. You can also take a shot right away by pressing hard but it might still take a couple of split seconds to shoot.
I wonder why they say " Never miss a shot" hehehe hope this helps but if your phone still doesn't respond maybe there is a problem with your camera button.
Try opening your camera by goinf to pics and vids then activate your camer NOW, try to take a picture by pressing the button. if it responds and takes shots. then you've probably need a master reset, or reflash.
