Looking at the MDA Compact II, the only main difference from our Magician is the processor. All other hardware is presumably the same as the Magician's (memory size is not significant).
So ..... if 3rd party software can run on any of the CPUs, why cant' WM5? Or is it that 3rd party software for the TI OMAP processor is compiled specifically for that CPU?
Just wondering :?
WM5 probably could run on Magician and potentially any device.
I'm not educated enough to answer correctly, but AFAIK anyone can build WM5 for the Magician using platform builder, but getting it work is the problem. We don't have compatible drivers etc specifically written for the device (as you can see with some of the WM5 builds for blue angel). So without proper drivers for all the hardware, it won't be "compatible" with all of the hardware.
Mamaich is the man for this question though. His Wizard ROM should open up doors I imagine.

I'm well aware of the drivers issue but with an MDA Compact II ROM the drivers should work just fine as it is essentially the same hardware. No?
More specifically, my question should be: is it JUST the different processor that won't allow us to use a WM5 Compact II ROM on our Magician? And if it is so, how come? (if 3rd party sofware can run on both processors with the same build?)
Actually, went down to a computer store on Friday and tested the HP IPAQ 1950. It only had 64MB ROM and 32MB RAM and 300MHz but it was very fast to operate which is surprising. Faster than an O2 mini display model.
Note that all display models only have factory settings with software that comes preinstalled. Comparing an O2 mini 64MB RAM/64 MB ROM 416MHz WM2003SE with an HP rx1950 32MB RAM/64MB ROM 300MHz WM 5.0, the rx1950 felt faster plus the HP screen was 3.5" as well.
I guess i they wanted to release an upgrade to WM 5.0 for the O2 mini/iMate JAM they could but why bother because they'll make more money selling the next model with WM 5.0
I think the O2mini noob is absolutely right. They just want to sell new Devices. Why else don't they give an Update to WM5 for XDA II / III although there are unofficial leaks?
Why they don't want to release WM5 for the Magician is pretty obvious now, look at HTC Charmer and HTC Prophet ... but the question is why can't we have a COOKED ROM from the HTC Charmer? What is the technical reason why an HTC Charmer/MDA Compact II ROM does not work on the Magician?
Well for a start the nbf for the t-mob charmer will need to a bit of chopping first to fit on a magician, since its 72mb. plenty of room on the charmers 128mb rom but not for the magician.
Hi All,
Tryign to satisfy my gadget craving with another HTC device to replace my Wizard. Looking at the Touch (cool, but not many buttons and no radio/GPS) and the Artemis.
If I were to put some of the later Touchflo ROMs on the Artemis, does it add *all* the Elf/Touch functionality? Is it as slick as the touch but with more features?
Would really appreciate advice from someone who's compared the two..
Ric
Hello, I have both. Artemis with touch flo rom and a new touch elf. I prefer the touch elf, it is slimmer and easier to carry in the pocket. Besides with a external gps receptor the performnace is better. I use the Holux 1200 and it is more precise.
Can wm6 made for tmobile wing or other htc phones run on an unlocked mda wizard?
No you will need a ROM made specifically for the wizard - other devices may have different hardware (graphics chip, GSM module, keyboard controller etc), so they have different drivers built into their OS distributions.
But i don't see a problem here, since there are quite a few WM6 and WM6.1 ROMs for wizard, and i don't see any real need to try putting a ROM from some other device in it.
Hi All,
I was reading on the htc US website that htc touch on sprint is gps enabled. Now does that mean that all htc touch are gps enabled on the hardware side. It is just a question of enabling it on the software side that GPS is not availble in elf.
I believe elf --> htc touch
elfin --> htc touch on sprint.
looking forward to replies

GSM HTC Touch with 64MB RAM/128MB ROM = Elf (no GPS chip)
GSM HTC Touch with 128MB RAM/256MB ROM = Elfin (no GPS chip)
CDMA HTC Touch = Vogue (has GPS chip)
I'm running and using GPS on my HTC Touch right now. I love it!!! Just gotta have the right ROM.

How the hell did you get GPS on the ELF. You can't unless you are using an external BLuetooth GPS on elf. This isn't what the OP was asking. You probably have the VOGUE (CDMA) not ELF (GSM) - Completely different devices even though they look the same and are both called TOUCH
A new ROM does not all of a sudden create a GPS Chip in the ELF to be able to use GPS
Please read as Dsixda has mentioned in his post and no need of any further discussion
Hello. I have an HTC touch viva (Opal).
Is there an unlocking software (like there is to htc diamond, htc dual or htc touch) ?
does someone know the existence of such software?
