Divx play back performance on the shift under vista

Hi Folks,
I haven't bought the shift yet but I'm certainly leaning heavily in that direction.
Can you please tell me about your experiences playing Divx video using the shift? I'm hearing mixed messages about the video capabilities of the machine some are saying it's no good for this some are saying it's fine which is it?
Please note I'm not talking about utube or wmv I'm talking divx avi files I would like to use this as a media player.

I have the K-lite codec pack installed including Media Player Clasic (K-Lite Mega Codec Pack).
The Divx I used played verry shoothly, I do not exactly know how this file was encoded. It was just an episode of a TV series that I missed and downloaded to watch on the train. (350Mb for 50 minutes...)

it does play divx well. Never had problems. The real question, can it play mkv files? I'm trying that in windows xp (no chance in vista i suppose) and i get some huge lags between sound and image.

Better use vlc: excellent performance, and no codec pack that can wreak havoc on your system

i've used gome player and media player classic, both configured to use "above average" process priority but no fun. gome has it's own internal codec system, only added matroska mkv codec.
I'll check what VLC has to offer.

I run VLC on my Shift and the only degradation I have seen on it is in full screen mode on the 1024x600 resolution. Definitely recommend VLC on the Shift.

I have a better experience with this:
Use Media Player Classic Home Cinema from here.
It has in the options the "EVR" Video Output which has a better image quality and lower CPU usage under Vista. And the GUI is better than VLC's ^^
And for the codecs I use the ffdshow tryouts.
I recommend clsid's latest Intel Compiler 10 builds, because they have a little performance improvement when using some post-processing filters.

Android Media Players

Does anyone know if the addition of several media players to the list of devices that use android will enable us to get some more codecs onto the G1? Or does it not matter because all of this stuff will be done in hardware?

What codecs do you want? Cyans 2.9.3 supports FLAC

on that thought, anyone want to port gstreamer? xD

I'd love to see a VLC media player for Android. Supports almost ALL codecs..

hey all...I would gladly pay someone to port any media player that would support .asf .avi .wmv....is it possible??....why can the media players that are already here support wma and not wmv....what's the big deal??...Please let me know....Phil...Thanks..

I have that on my HX4700 with WM6 and it is awesome. Of course WM6 had more codecs for it. The player was smooth on older hardware and better 4" VGA screen.
I'd definitely love to see it for Android along with more codec support.

i just switched from WM5 to G1
and the first thing i found was all the media players suck
the G1 supports OGG natively yet none of the players will
play a OGG stream
i have a dozen media apps on my G1 and not one of them
works any where near like i want.
i miss TCPMP !!!

Video Player with on screen controls?

I'm currently using Core Media Player and it's work fairly well, but I'm annoyed that it doesn't have any on screen controls when videos are played fullscreen.
I'm looking for a video player that has on screen controls like the built in YouTube player. (tap the screen for controls, tap again to to go back to the video).
This makes it much more convenient to skip through videos while in fullscreen mode.
Does anything like that exist?

I recommend Kinoma Play, It's a super player/app for many reasons. And it has all the features you asked for!

For some reason It didn't recognize a file, once, that I had on my memory card so I alternate between Kinoma (mostly for the awesome streaming support) and CorePlayer.

Thanks. I bought Kinoma using Trialplay. The interface is very nice, but video playback is aweful. I read on the Kinoma forum that it's designed for streaming and not for local playback.
I wish there was an optimized setting for local playback as well. The interface is MUCH better than CorePlayer.
I hope they update Kinoma to have better local playback at some point. Right now it's unuseable.

What version of core player are you using. I have tried every version with my TMO TP2 and none has worked. I don't mind if it's not touch screen, do you have a cab your willing to share. Thanks

Best Media player for Windows Mobile?

I'm new to this whole WinMo thing, so I have a question: Windows Media Player isn't doing a great job of playing some 480p videos on my Imagio. What is the best player out there that may be better at handling videos like that? I would prefer freeware, but other suggestions are also welcome. I've been converting them to wmv, but if there are other smaller formats, then that works too.

Windows Media player Vs Coreplayer

Hey everyone.
Wanted to find out if Coreplayer is worth buying for the HD2? Currently just installed myplayer app and forced to switch the player to WM player but wondering if the quality of streaming or video playback is better in coreplayer?
I'm not too fussed right now about codecs and functionality although no doubt I will be in a few weeks when i dont have a codec for a video but I'm wondering if there are any improvements in purely video quality only in coreplayer compared to WM player?

hey dude...i have both installed and i have few dvd that i have ripped onto my phone by using spb mobile dvd. I have viewed videos through both players...and they both works fine and could not tell any difference, however what i have noticed is the buttons on coreplayer are more responsive, for instance you could fast forward a track or video easily rather than the WM player

The main advantage i have found with coreplayer is watching internet TV streams. These seem to sun much smoother.
for the best performance/video quality its best to recode video to MP4 and use the htc album player to watch the movie/documentary about maggie thatcher (or whatever source you have)

The main disadvantage of the CorePlayer is a lack of AC3 sound codec compatibility.
When you open a movie with sound in AC3 - it just won't play.

And WMP plays AC3 fine?

To me Coreplayer seems to be way faster, plus it plays most videos without converting.. wmp does not play any of my avis..
