My 8125 will play about the first four seconds of an MP3 from the memory card then the player (AudioManager and WMP) will lock up, sometimes I can close the app sometimes I have to soft reset. But play that SAME MP3 from the phones memory and it plays fine!!! This problem is the same for pictures on the storage card. I open up photo and video and it's supposed to load thumbnails, well it will load the first few thumbs then that app locks too but again, copy pictures to phone memory and no probs at all... I keep all my cabs and PIM backup on my memory card and after a flash it is no problem to reinstall those cabs...
Don't really want to buy new card, or is that even needed? Is there a way to reformat these miniSD cards? It is a REAL SanDisk 2GB, not a cheap one from ebay.
If this has already been talked about, just post a link please, don't be an ass...I tried to search!
If you have an SD card reader, reformatting is easy, just put the card in it, right click on the card and choose format. If you don't have a card reader, use wm5starage. Enable wm5storage on your phone, connect to activesync and your phone will show up on your computer just as it would if it were in a card reader and then right click on it and choose format.

So that's what WM5torage is for... I always wondered why it was included in all the ROM's I have...hmmm
I will try it and see if it fixes the problem. Thanks.
Actually wm5storage is for using your SD card like a usb flash storage device so enableing it allows your computer to see it as a drive. Make sure you enable it before you connect it to activesync though or I don't think it will work if I remember right.
So far it's working fine. Such a simple fix. Thanks for the help!
No problem, glad I could help.

I have a question about the MicroSD cards you can buy for the Wing. Once I realized it was a good idea to have one for the wing (didn't take me long), I had one sent to me via UPS from some website. I got a 2GB. Anyway! My question is.. if I put the card in my phone, does it act as phone memory? Can I actually install .cab's and stuff ON the card and run them like they were actually installed on the phone?
Basically what i'm asking is if putting a MicroSD card into the wing is like putting a hard drive into a computer. It's not just a card to store things on, it's a card that acts as actual memory and you can install things on it too, right?
Today I kept getting pop-ups saying I had low memory. It was annoying as hell, so I uninstalled a few programs until I get my card. They were things I used like battery status and larger start menu, but oh well. I can do without them for a few days.
I know there's "Storage" memory and then there's "Program" memory. The Storage was at 0MB free and that's why I kept getting those pop-ups. My Program is at 18.34MB free.
Thanks in advance.

Yes, to answer your question, the microsd card is just like a hard drive. That's where you will prob want to store most of you applications, music, games, etc. This frees up memory on your main drive. I also have my camera setup to put photos on it too. I also keep a backup of all my cab files on my card. Whenever you have a card present, and you install a program, you get the option of installing on the card or the main drive. I believe our phones will take up to an 8 gig. I have 4 and it works great.
Thanks in advance.

I see. Thanks for the response. So I guess it would make more sense for me to uninstall everything I installed on my phone and reinstall it all on my card instead? That way most of my actual phone memory is free and it's all on the card? Any idea how much free memory there is to start off on the phone anyway? And what's the difference exactly between Storage and Program memory? I know Storage says Total: 31.44 MB and Program says Total: 47.89 MB. Is that how much the phone gives you to start with?
it will not merge with your storage
and memory is mainly what we call application mem like ram in a computer
not the harddrive
cabs should at install time ask if one wish to install to storage or sdcard
The weirdest thing happened to me today and I was wondering if anyone can help me identify the culprit.
I was listening to some music when all of a sudden the player (Nitrogen) freezed.
I opened the player again and the songs wouldnt play,
so I looked in the library only to find that there was one song left in my /Storage Device/Music folder.
I have roughly 1.5 GB of music on my 2 GB sd-card.
When I got home I put the sd-card in my cardreader and it says that there's 100 MB of free space left
but when I select all files on the card it shows up as only 300 MB.
When I open the folder it only shows one mp3 file.
When I select all files on the card it shows that it's only 300 MB.
- I tried searching for it by file names
- I've got "see hidden folders" enabled
Mind you, I do have a backup,
just wanted to see to it that it doesn't happen again.
Update: It happened for a second time now
I formatted my sd-card and while I was copying 2 mp3 files from my computer to my sd-card, (all the files were still there) a message popped up stating that it failed and I should check if the file wasn't protected
After the message popped up all of the files inside the folder were gone (including album art)
Again, there is little free space but all the folders combined equals no more than a few hundred MB.
It would be appreciated it if someone could help me out
Thanks,
Hi mo.ammi
I work for a company who sell a lot of memory cards and the returns dept see this a lot, you should get acronis disk director and reformat the card as NTFS (most come as FAT32) When the write to the card fails it is usually because FAT32 will not take as large a file for transfer due to size restrictions, NTFS does not have these restrictions.
I have seen this work in some cases, however if it does not solve the issue then i suggest you send the card back.
Hope this helps,
Creamy-Goodness
My bet would be it's a fake (not genuine) card. Such issues are pretty common with them.

Do mind that if you do this, the card can no longer be used to flash your device, as that requires FAT32. Also, I'm not completely sure about the normal compatibility with the X1, but I guess you can give it a try.

I tried your method and at the moment it seems stable.
You say it's usually because FAT32 won't accept large files (larger than 4GB if I remember).
But my largest file is an episode of American Dad (100MB)
Anyway, thanks for your help. Luckily it's just a 2GB card

I usually flash my device using the RomUpdateUtility.
Are there any pro's or con's using the card flash method?

It's a genuine Nokia MicroSD card.
It came with my device so I presume it's real.
Thanks for your help!

i tried using acronis but it only shows my hard drives and not flash drives, would not mind a last ditch attempt to save it if you tell me how??
i had the same problem with a 8 GB card.
installed some tool to format the card under windows mobile took ages and i ran out of battery ... now the card is totaly unreadable. not even windows recoknizes it anymore.
guess its borked now
Hi Flext,
I am unsure as to why your card is not visible by the Acronis suite, have you tried looking in disk management on the OS to check if the PC can see it as attached?
As Angelusz has stated you will not be able to flash firmware with the Card after changing the format, however the Acronis suite will allow you to create a small partition of FAT32 on the same card that could be used for this purpose. I do not know if the Xperia will recognise both partitions and display that you have two seperate cards, if anyone has tested this can they please post their findings.

Creamy-Goodness
windows recognises the card in my computer but when i try to explore or format it my computer hangs, forever, then normally displays an error message an hour later....
i originally installed acronis a while ago to create partions for backtrack 3, when i did this i dont remember any other drive except my HD's being displayed maybe its the version of acronis im using???
also my X1 does not see the card at all though, "there is no storage card installed", however when i plug the card into the phone when it is sleeping the phone wakes up???
Hi Flext,
Sorry to say this but i think you card is indeed knackered. Just buy another, they are really cheap these days (even the non faked ones) It would be easier on your own sanity to bin it and move on.
Oh and i'm using the latest version of acronis, just checked but i dont think it makes much difference as it seems to be more or less the same UI and functionality.
Kind Regards,
Creamy
got weird problem too with my sd card i have seen the number of mp3 count on media panel decrease to zero after an update to r2a
Hello all
Purchased a new 16gb micro SDHC card today to replace the 8gb I had. Moved all the files over from one card to the other using my lap top (one card in the laptop card reader, the other (the new one) in the phone synced by USB.
All went well, music, photos, videos all there etc. BUT the cab files I have on the card (apps, sense tweeks, cosmetic bits etc) are not viewable on the card in the phone. They are definately on the new card, I'e put this card into the laptopn reader and they are all on there. But then stick the same card into the phone and the folder I've created, called 'cab files' is totally empty when viewed via the phone???? What could the problem be? Is there something I need to do with them beng cabinet files? Like I say they are on the card its just the phone can't see them.....
have you got 'show all files' enabled?
Are you using totalcommander to browse the card?
That's strange anyway, if you connect the phone with 16GB microsd inside, other than seeing the cabinets, can you also open them with, say, 7zip, and check their integrity correctly? In that case you may also want to check in your desktop windows if those files have any attributes other than "Archive"
ive just ordered a 16gb card myself. i have quite a lot of software installed to my card. can i back it up and just copy everything to the new card or must i install everything again?
thanks

I do yes, it was one of the things I checked.
I am no longer able to see my memory card when i connect my phone to my PC and can no longer see it when i go into file explorer!! Can someone tell me what maybe wrong or possible solutions. It was just working a little bit ago and then i can no longer get into the memory card through my PC or on the phone.
if i put a different memory card in the phone it will read it, it just wont read the card that came with the phone for some reason, what the hell is going on here?
Ehh not looking good here. While your phone is connected to the PC make sure 'Disk Drive' is selected and not 'Activesync'. If nothing still, I suggest placing the SD card in a USB reader and plug it directly into the PC. You should have your answer there. Good luck.
i just think its weird that my phone will read other memory cards and not the one that came with it, but when i put the 16gb card in a diff phone it is readable?
starkall, I would suggest copying everything that's on the card to your PC (using another phone or a card reader), placing the card back in your HD2, and doing a format right on the phone using the native utility for that (settings-all settings-system). This has cleared up the "disappearing card trick" for a bunch of people
when i use a card reader for my pc it wont even show up, can anyone send me the stock files that come on the original SD card. Thank you
i tried doing the facotry reset also and it still wont read the card, im lost i guess LOL
yeah sounds like a bad card. there should be a dl list of all the stock apps here on xda. look in the htc leo section, i believe there is a sticky on it and that you can dl each .cab one by one. the only thing that you may not be able to find here is the transformers movie files due to copyright. other than that, i'd hit up tmobile and get a replacement phone or sd card or both.
is there a way to delete all the icons from my phone that dont work now, like transformers, blockbuster, mobitv, barnesnoble etc... since i cant use them

Using file explorer (either on the phone or through activesync), just navigate to windows/start menu. There you will find the .lnk icons for everything you find on your start menu and in quicklinks. Delete or rearrange those (into folders for example) however you wish...they're just links.
EDIT: for mobitv, blockbuster, etc (everything except the movies really) you can download and reinstall the apps...they're all available at the thread ryan562 mentioned, and here's a link to it (it's also stickied at the top of this forum section):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=663845
Just look for the two links there with "extracted cabs" in the title
the movies is what i wanted most LOL i called HTC and they are sending me a new card but are out of stock at the time being, BUMMER i know!!!!! I put my buddies SD card out of his HD2 in my phone and everything works so hope i get my new card soon, my son loves to watch transformers.
What is the doubletwist app whose setup file comes on the HD2 storage card?
It looks like it is not an app for the phone, but for the PC. Something to do with multimedia.
Anyone here tried it? What exactly does it do? Any good?
it's a multimedia sync application, will sync your media files from your PC to your phone, but IMHO Windows Media does just as well. I ended up just deleting the files off the SD... use the space for other things
Doubletwist
Its like iphone for HTC...
I've tried it and like activesync better.
I just manually move stuff over to the card & organize it myself.
+1 ActiveSync / Manual
-666 DoubleTwist / Windows Media
