At the moment, Skype calls only come through the loudspeaker or a headset. We’re working on this, but in the meantime, please use a headset for the best audio quality.

So yeah. It should come on on it's own. Have you got the latest version?

what's the latest version ? what I have got is version 2.105, the one that comes already in my ROM.
From that info, I should be able to turn on the loudspeaker, but I can only hear it through the ear speaker. what button do you press ?

2.2 is the latest version, but be warned, it has the opposite problem to you, in that you can't listen through the phone speaker, it only comes out through the loudspeaker.
Get 2.2 here

oh man. I think that's bad too lol. sometimes I need private conversations

SpeakerPhone - How to Activate?

Hey,
I am under the impression the i-Mate JAM/XDA Mini etc have speakerphone ability (to listen to a call on loudspeaker). However I cant find how to do this.
It certainly should be possible, as when I play music its very loud. Ok, the quality may not be great on loudspeaker, but good enough for a phone call.
Regards,
Jez.
If it's the same as all the other devices, hold down the green answer button during a call and hey presto- speakerphone!
HTH
Fin
Yeah,
just hold the green button for a while ,but I must say it's pretty useless.....
:?
I can hardly hear the other party in speaker phone mode. Moreover, I think that it is a design flaw to put the speaker on the back of the device.
I am looking for a application that can activate speakerphone. without using the green-button.
Is there any such?
Did you ever find a solution to this, (to set the speakerphone through a API) ?
funny
so funny, ive been using my phone (XDA II) for almost a month now, but try to use the speaker phone just today. after i read this thread. heheheh
tnx guys... this means alot to me.. lol^^

Speaker call not loud

on a I-mate jam it's possible to turn on speaker while calling so you can speak "handsfree".
This can be done by holding down the green call button.
When I do this the sounds of the speaker is de same as normal only the sounds comes from the back of the phone instead of the front.
Does anybody know how to fix this? A friend of mine has the same phone without a problem.

Have you tried while you are on the speakerphone mode to make the volume slider higher?
That ain't gonna help you. This is a known - and unsolved problem with the Jam. If you really need a speakerphone, you should return the phone. No amount of firmware/ROM update will help you.
I use the speakerphone option without any problems. The sound is loud and clear. What is this unresolved JAM problem that you're talking about?
Jam speakerphone volume problem
My XDA1 had the best speakerphone I've ever used, including corded phones. I could be in a conferance room with 10 people around the table and everyone could hear, speak and the participate on the phone never had problems with background noise. I have a hard time accepting that next generation technology from the same manufacturer should be woefully inadequate. The unit is advertised as a speakerphone, the solution is to return my phone and purchase another? No thanks friend, anyone reading this with solutions please respond.
I only have the phone for 1 month now so I´ll return it
tnx for the help
I think most of us don't know how to hold the mini in the right way, while the phone is in speaker mode...
if u want to hear a load voice.. make sure that back of the phone faces ur ear..
that' because the mini has 2 speakers... and the one in the back( near the mirror) is loader.. so you will hear the conversation very well...
and BTY.. I suggest u upgrade to the latest ROM available for ur device..
it helped me a lot....
cheers

Wrong - its patently obvious that the sound is coming from from the back speaker. Why on earth it comes frm the back is another question entirely, given that the speaker phone is supposed to free up your hands so you do other things, including multi-task on the device i.e looking at the screen! Every other phone I've had has a decent speakerphone - and they face the front too.
But the main problem is that the volume from the supposed "speakerphone" is too damn low, irregardless of location.
Considering all the huge volumes of prior experience that HTC has (making practically every Microsoft PPC device, smartphones, plus the Palm Treo phone), things like this awful speakerphone on the magician are really not excusable at all.
I went through 3 TREO 600s due to speaker problems. You could barely hear the speaker phone on the 600 either. ANd to top that off, no one could hear you! The JAM is nice, but the more that I use it, the more I wish that either I bought something else or that the the JAM could just work the way it was designed!!!!!!
1.3 Mega pixel camera... my ass! It's the same quality as my first Casio digital camera from '96. Not mention the fact that Imate can't even put a decent ROM update together.
Perhaps we should build our own PPC's!
P.S. PM me if you want the CEO and VP of Imate's e-mail address. I e-mailed them and they actually wrote back! -Of course they weren't very helpful though.
One time, I turned on this speakermode operation on my MDA-Compact, I could hear my phonecall loud and clear from the built-in speaker.... This happenend accidently, probably by pressing just the right button, but I wasn't aware....
I cannot find how to do this again? How can I get the MDA-Compact to operate in speakermode using the built-in speaker?
I'm searching this (and other forums) quite a while now, but I cannot find my solution?!
Any help will be very much appreciated!
Thanks,
Igor.

Yes there is a way: but the mini back in the box, return it and get a different phone, preferably a Nokia.
Seriously though, its a known fault that the speakerphone on this thing is crap, medocre at best. It does not match up to the speakerphone quality of even an average run-of-the-mill Nokia phone.
If you really rely on speakerphone for your type of usage, this phone wont cut it. Its that simple.

I don't have any problems with the quality of the speakerphone of my QTek s100. But i never used a Nokia with speakerphone so i'm not that spoiled
Seriously, i can use the speakerphone while i'm driving the car and people still hear me very well and i can hear them very well too. I must say that i'm not driving an old diesel engine so it's pretty quiet in the car while driving, maybe that's my luck
@atiley: What version Radio ROM are you using ? Have you tried upgrading the Radio ROM to the latest version (i believe it's 1.13.00)? I've read somewhere here on the forum that it solves some issues. Some say the sound quality is improved.
I have a problem where I can't get the handsfree to turn on anymore.
If i press the green talk button (and no matter how long i hold it down) it doesn't pop back up until I actually let go. And then no handsfree.
I've tried two diferent 1.11 ROM's and am now on 1.12. I also tried radio 1.13, but no luck.
When I first got my phone the handfree worked, but then one day, it was gone. Could there be a persistent registry setting or something like that?
Any thoughts anyone?
Thanks
I am using Radio ROM 1.12.00, what does it do when you change radio roms i have no idea is it like a firmware update ? what are the benefits?
i admit the speaker phone is crap on this phone, if you open the phone and look at the actual speaker phone, its really poor quality. but i barely use speaker phone and when i do, its in an invironment when i can here the other person well enough. if your trying to use speakerphone in a club or something... go see a psychiatrist.

A Strange Audio problem

Hi, I cannot hear any sound during an out going call(O2 Xda Atom). No ring back, no voice after connect, tried earphones - no luck, tried the switch on the earphone jack - no luck, checked for software clashes, cold reboot, re-flash and couple of ROMs... the other party during a call hears hissing noise. In coming call is fine, both can hear well.
The speakers and mic are good. I can play music, videos, ringtone.. no problem. Also tried audio recording, no problems - the mic is fine. Any clue what is going on? Plz help.

Basically you can flash back to original WM5.O to confirm if it is ROM problem. For your case, I strongly believe it is not a hardware problem
Thanks for the response Sono. But the phone was working fine with wm6, at least for an year. Now I've tried 6, 6.1 and 6.5. I dont have a WM5 ROM back up, will try to get one tomorrow.

Tried flashing the original WM5 too, but no fix. I used to format file sysytem and install radio on my Tornado. Is there something similiar for Atom? Can I update GSM manually? Any advice?

Okay theres a number of things you can try to help diagnose it. Do this all on a clean install of WM6 or 6.5.. Preferably on a ROM that hasnt had any reported issues.
1. The outgoing call gives the receiver static.. correct? is it to any number or just specific numbers?
2. Do you have a bluetooth headset around that you can try? If so then pair it up and see if it does the job, that will prove that its a hardware problem.
3. Try a different dialer or the stock dialer.
Thanks Aegishua for the response, I flashed back to a wm6 ROM that was working fine for over an year. This is what I observed:
1. Calls to two GSM and one land-line gave the same results. The phone is silent, the other party hears a loud hissing and a high pitch tone, not so loud, almost like feed back noise. No change when I mute/unmute, switch on/off spkr phone. when I select 'hold' the noise is replaced with a hold music from the network. In-call recording captures my voice thru the mic.
2. I could not try a BT headset, hope to get one tomorrow.
3. At least four different dialers tried incl original wm5 dialer, wizard dialer- retouched, Yota etc. Each of them returned the same results.
Please advise.
Ok, I got a BT headset, but the result is same as before. That is, out going call no audio at all, in coming calls ok. Does it mean the GSM module is bad? Is there a solution, other than replacing the entire ckt board?
Thanks, Jole.
bump..have you solved this kabayan? same problem encountered
atom life call problem fixed!
just got outgoing and incoming call working!
thanks to insomnia for sharing his procedure. i also want it to share for those who are experiencing same problem.

Mga kabayan, im not sure if this will work for you.
i assume youre using globe sim card and i experienced it before when i first flashed my atom life (with official rom) to a cooked 6.5. (talagang my issue kc ang atom life s globe kaya fix nila s official upgrade nila.)
so i upgrade it 1st with an official upgade rom from O2 before i flash it to a cooked 6.5. a long procedure but worthy. Try nyo lng din. hope it will help.
btw, after testing all latest rom... i am still using and preffered our kabayan chef bajok's 23004 release. not much in latest interface but it is stable and free from any bugs.

VoIP on SGS

Please look anybody the SipDroid application working on SGS!
Do I hear the conversation from the earspeaker or the external speaker? (this is interesting because the echo)
I'm useing Asterisk server and I would like to use the pda like a softphone.
With SipDroid i get sound from earpiece. Call quality is quite decent.
I tried a few other VoIP apps and some of them work on earpiece, some not.
Sipdroid works fine.
Others don't. i can hear the other party but they can't hear me.
The same goes to Fring.

Thanx. Give please the version number of SipDroid working properly.
Several questions:
Can you switch between earpiece and external speaker?
Does the program online when it is in 3G and the device is standby?
What about the incoming call during screenlock?

yes - but with external speaker there is a lot of echo. even using earpiece i had to lower earpiece volume as well as mic gain to eliminate all echo.

It wakes up and lets you answer just like with the native phone app.

Are you using pbxes or your own voip provider?
Because I can't get Sipdroid to work on SGS.
On pbxes I can, but the quality is not good and the sound comes out of back speaker and sometimes earphone, its not consistent. I can't get the sound to come out of the earpiece though.
So someone post a solution please. I'm using the latest 1.5.4 beta.
Set the servername to pbxes.com on the phone, and not to pbxes.org. This should solve your earpiece (sound from eksternal speaker) problem.

Unfortunately, this doesn't help with the problem at all. Sound still comes from external speaker and earspeaker, inconsistently.
See issue #366 at sipdroid's project page http://code.google.com/p/sipdroid/issues/detail?id=366

On the I7500, apparently they had the same issue, so made a VOIP kernel..
And yes, I have the same problem.
My workaround at the moment is:
When I receive a call
- I hold it
- wait a few seconds
- then unhold
Then usually the audio doesn't come from the back speaker anymore.
Still, we really need a patched Kernel for this.
