Guys,
First let me say that I not an expert on MDA like most of you guys, but I have been able to follow instructions very well. I did the 2.26 upgrade available from T Mobile last June (2006) on my own. Recently, I used Lokiwiz3a to unlock my phone for using Cingular SIM and even changed EDGE set up from T-Mobile to Cingular. So in short, I can read instruction and follow them successfully. YOu get the idea about my level.
Anyway, I was cleaning some stuff from my miniSD card and removed on folder that contained some Flex mail demo stuff (from MiniSD NOT WINDOWS folder in My device). I did some other cleaning to take some T-Mobile stuff off my device.
In this cleaning, I messed up my mailing. Here is the current condition.
The problem is...
1>When I click either messaging icon or the messaging file nothing happens.
2> When I use send email or send SMS option from contacts, nothing happens.
Here is icons condition..
1> I can see no. of unread email in today screen, but the counter is not showing curent (new information). It is just set at old counter.
2> Email option of Pocket MSN also shows old hotmail counter as above.
3> I can see the messaging icon in Start Menu on Today.
4> There is NO messaging icon in Program folder that opens when you click program icon (Like Setting icon) in Start menu on Today.
When I use File Explorer...
1> Windows folder has "Messaging" file has size 11B with date stamp of 06/09/06.
2> Windows/Messaging folder has all the message files < 1kb (1kb was my message header limit).
3> Windows/Programs folder has no icon or file.
4> Windows/Start Menu folder has the file "Messaging" with size 11B and date stamp of 06/07/06.
5> Windows/Start Menu/Programs folder has no "Messaging" file
Finally general information, my MDA was T-Mobile with 2.26 Rom upgraded and WM5.
Also, another minor issue...I can't see comm manager on bottom right(I think it is cal init tray) of the today screen.
Regards,
Rohit

Hi,
I have lost all my contacts on outlook, and on my ppc , the only way to have it back is by trying to extract it from .stg file saved on my PC. I have tried to use STGviewer which can extract individual files from an ActiveSync backup, but STGviewer doesn't allow restore of anything in the Pegasus Database, derictory where Contacts Database folder is stored. How can I do it???
HELP!
Thanx!
have you googled for a program which could access the Pegasus Database and you could extract the data yourself and type it into outlook and sycn with your device and then
from now on export the outlook *.pst file as a backup
Try this...
http://hometown.aol.com/anyware/wce/MobileVault/download.htm
I had a very similar problem and this program was the only one that worked.
Before starting the steps below place your XDA in the cradle and wait for it to sync.
Steps;
1. Install attached software
2. Run MobileVault from 'Start > Programs > MobileVault > MobileVault'
3. Click on the'File' menu and then 'Open'
4. Browse to 'My documents' and select 'backup1.stg'
5. Once file has opened click on '+' next to the small computer icon in the left hand panel
6. Click on 'WinCE Databases' folder
7. Right click on the 'Appointments Database' in the right hand panel and select 'Restore to Desktop'. This will pop-up a window, select the desktop and then click 'Ok'
8. Repeat step 7 for the 'Contacts Database'
9. On your desktop a new folder will have been created called 'WinCE Databases'. There will be two files - send these both to me.
10. Repeat steps 7-8, but this time select 'Restore to Mobile Device'. In theory this should restore them to your pda.
If step 10 doesn't work, then;
11. Remove the xda from the cradle
12. On the xda, click on the start menu and select 'ActiveSync' (if its not in the menu it will be in the programs option)
13. Select the 'tools' menu at the bottom of the screen and then select 'Options...'
14. Click on the 'Options...' button, and untick the 'Enable PC sync using...' option beneth the 'When cradled' text.
15. Click on the 'Ok' to the top right of the screen, and then repear for the next screen, finish by clicking on the 'X'
16. Now place the XDA back in the cradle - it shouldn't sync now.
17. Repeat step 10, and see it it works. Fingers crossed!!
Good luck...
@divingsheep
Thank you very much I solved my problem!!!

hey guys, i know this thread is old, however I need your advice for this problem. I have used Mobilevault in the past to restore my databases, however, when I tried to do this today, I encountered the application has been changed completely, not allowing me to do the restore. Am I right by saying there is no way to restore the databases? This would leave me really upset! Not everyone wants or is able to use Outlook to manage Contacts, so it really should be Microsofts duty to provide a solution regarding this.
any 1?
I have programs like: Email Setup, O2active...
1) how do i remove them so that after a HR they will return ??
2) i managed to find Email setup - but after deleting the files - i still have blanc shortcut in Start>Programs saying email-setup (with empty icon).
why?
can i remove only shortcuts but keep the program?
These things you wanna remove are installed everythime you hard reset. THey are programs in the extended ROM. These are customizations to WM5 that the retailer (imate, o2,qtek, t-mobile) put on the device.
If you don't want to install any of these do the following:
1. Hard Reset Device.
2. you'll go thru a series of screens:
2.1 Welcome Message
2.2 Align Screen
2.3 Tap and Hold tutorial
2.4 Password Configuration
2.5 Ending Screen that asks you to press screen to continue.
3. RIGHT AFTER step 2.5 (after you tap the screen) press the RESET hole.
This will bypass installing all the files in extended ROM which normally shown by a progress bar at the bottom everytime you do a normal hard reset.
4. Now you can Install the stuff in the extended ROM one at a time. Only the ones you need to install. To access the ExtendedROM (it is hidden) download Total Commander (search thru google) and type \EXTENDED_ROM in the navigation window and it will display the contents of the extended ROM.
I don't have O2 so i cannot explain to you what each individual .CAB file does. Just use a little guess work. THe O2Active, i believe is easily spotted. It's the biggest CAB file. Don't click on it so it won't install.
Tell me if this helped you out or if you need more clarifications.
Hola Jorge
First of all - Thanks for the great explanation !!
Although I do want most of the stuff, i already tried corporate mode (clean install) but I missed a lot of things.
therefor I installed Basic mode. (which hasnt got ALL the features)
But - some of the features i DO want to take away.
(NOT FROM EXT ROM)
only for now... programs in the Start>Program>
Lets say I wanna take the games away...
where are all the programs installed TO ??
I found some of them. but when I deleted the email setup for instance -
I still have an empty Email Icon in START>PROGRAMS>
(again i remind U - I wanna leave the ext rom as it is)
10x again !!
Some features in the ExtROM are installed in Corporate mode too, the sure way to customize is to bypass ExtROM, then install one-by-one the .CAB files you want.
Anyway regarding the Games, etc. they are part of the OS so cannot be uninstalled unless they came with the extended ROM like Backgammon that came with the JASJAR ExtROM.
To delete the ICON that is blank but still has text, go to \WINDOWS\START MENU\PROGRAMS\GAMES
You'll find the shortcut there. Or just to \WINDOWS\START MENU to see all the oter shortcuts in case you wanna remove other stuff.
The games are installed in WINDOWS and a shortcut is created to the Star Menu Directory. Just delete the shortcut.
What does "10x again !!" mean?
I'm using Pocket Outlook on my device and I've been testing a registry tweak to allow emails to be saved on the Storage Card.
I didn't know this was possible until I saw the following blog article:
https://blogs.msdn.com/mpoulson/archive/2006/01/09/510839.aspx
The tweak described causes the following to happen on my device
registry tweak:
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\MAPI
AttachPath String “\storage card\mail\attachments” (no quotes) - this setting already existed on my device
PropertyPath string “\storage card\mail” (no quotes)
After applying this registry setting and doing a soft reset, I noticed the following folders on my storage card
"storage card" gets renamed to "storage card2" this contains all the original storage card folders
a folder named "storage card" appears which contains the following folders:
/mail/mail and /mail/attachments
...clearly something wrong here...
I've read this article here http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/index.php?blog=3&p=569&more=1
and it's clear that Pocket Outlook will, by design, store emails in main memory but was hoping that this registry tweak would get around this.
I've since reset my device and reinstalled the AKU2 ROM update to get it back to normal
Any thoughts on this?
Many thanks
device: 02 XDA Exec
ROM version: 1.30.107 WWE
ROM date 04/11/06
Radio version: 1.09.00
Protocol version 42.42.P8
You don't need to do a registry tweak, as you have the option to use the storage card by default in the email set up wiz
Just click options before you finish the connection settings
Thanks for this lanesra
I've seen this option. The option you're referring to though is only for saving email "attachments" to the storage card and not the email "database" itself.
I think you're referring to the option on the "storage" tab within email settings
This clearly says "store attachments on storage card"
I'm looking to see if I can get the email "database" itself saved to the storage card
Am I missing something, are you referencing another option somewhere maybe?
Hi,
summary of what I've read somewhere here:
the problem of the reg-hack is, that on reboot/startup the storage card driver gets initialized AFTER the messaging today plugin, so WM5 doesn't find the directory and creates a "storage card" dir. After init of storagecard-driver, WM5 assigns "storage card 2" to real SD-card.
If you apply the hack you shouldn't have the messaging plugin on today screen. Also I'm not sure about what's going on after resume (just a thought)
greets,
tom
Thanks for the info mda2k,
I also posted this topic in the pocketpcmag forums and included your response there.
I've just found that Menneisyys from the pocketpcmag blogs/forums has done a great write up on the solution for this and responded to my post
You'll find the write-up here
http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/in...can_store_your_activesyn&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1
I've also just seen here http://www.tleone.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=61&Itemid=59 that there is additional info on this tweak to also move any existing mail on a device from main memory to the storage card as part of the update.
Try to install these cabs:-
MoDaCo_CardInbox.CAB
Card_Cache.CAB

Hey guys,
today i received my P4350, i backed up my sms from my XDA-Neo with PPCimBackup and restored them onto the P4350...
But now i´ve got an unread mail in my sms folder, without any sender, message text or anything else. the receive time is always the actual time and i cant delete or move it.
has anyone of you an idea how to fix that?
I dont want to hardreset the device.
Greets Mäffjus
Additonal Info: It is running WM6 (by default).
Phantom SMS? Try to connect your device to desktop thru Jeyo Mobile Companion (trial version available at www.jeyo.com) and delete that SMS. Soft Reset.
its not working, ist shows now sms in inbox...i`m not sure why....
Maybe an error in the inbox database? can i edit the file via Hex or windows (XP) editor?
Further, do you know how i can disable the terrible sound when i sent an sms and the windows pops up? i found no entry in the registry.
hey, no further ideas?
easy as pie
just delete your sms/email inbox. It's the: " cemail.vol " In the mobile root directory. It'll be protected so you'll have to use a trick to get rid of it. Credit goes to Arkhipenko over at mobilitysite.com but here's a quick cut/paste of the solution.
"Hi,
I have recently discovered that my cemail.vol file went crazy: the outlook folders became misaligned.
Without much details of WHAT happened, I needed to delete cemail.vol.
It is not a simple thing since the file is constantly locked by some process (no idea which - I tried killing most of them via MemMaid to no success).
Anyway, to cut the long story short, one way to do it is to use...
Mortscript (what else!)
Create a simple script:
Delete "\cemail.vol"
Place a shortcut to this script to a \Windows\Startup folder and reset: you will have a brand new cemail.vol file when everything boots up (at least I did).
Don't forget to delete the shortcut, or you'll have a brand new cemail.vol every time you boot. "
My message status keep showing a message that has not read, but all have already been read, how do I reset?
its kind of a bug, that is any file on windows folder that i should delete?
first...you should mention which OS/ROM version you are using.
second...no one reported such problem.
i am sure that you just viewed the incoming sms in the pop-up notification.
go to 'Messaging' and and open the messages view them once each.
if this does not work...you might have messed up your settings or the registry...in which case...a backup of your important files in your phone memory (pictures/contacts/songs etc.) to your storage card or to the pc via activesync and then HARD-RESET your ppc.
