I feel like at one point, my internet connection used to disconnect when I was done with an application that used it. That doesn't happen anymore. Now it just stays on for hours draining my battery. What do I do?
You can press and hold the END (Red Phone) button for about 3-5 seconds.

Same here. It just keeps going till I tell it now. Quick way to kill the battery. I'm installed the Qtek rom over the T-Mobile UK one the phone came with so I'm wondering if there's a setting missing.
Sorry, but you are a wrong: to leave GPRS always on doesn't drain the battery noticeably - I recently turned it on 24/7 for push email and there is no effect on the battery life at all (in case you don't use the GPRS connection a lot - I usually just transfer around 10 mails per day, each around 1-2kb...)
So there is definitely no need to worry...
Good to know, I'll just leave it running then!
Hey everyone! I'm searching for a good IM that keeps on running in the background over Wifi and gives a sound when a new message comes in.
Beejive looks really cool, but I have a big problem: My device is set to turn off the backlight after 30 sec. So far no problem. At first I had it turn into standby after 1 min. But by doing that the Wifi connections breaks and after I turn the phone back on it connects again. So I turned this option off. Every programm keeps on running with the backlight off after 30 sec., but if Beejive is opened it still gets the phone into standby after 1 min. I haven't found an option in the configs of Beejive that can turn that off.
Anyone has a solution for that?
Another problem is that Beejive doesn't show messages that were sent to me when I was off. Not good at all.
Thanks!!!
Weird
Beejive sends me messages I received weeks ago (last time I used it) and got disconnected because of it going to sleep. (Even if I have logged into the account severl times between now and then via my PC.
I don't think there is anything the progrm itself can do to keep the phone awake but you can change asetting in advanced config to allow wifi in standby.
I've been having an issue over the last couple of days that my data connection keeps connecting without me selecting it to or going into any apps that require an internet connection & when I try to turn it off it remains on. Even after disconnecting a couple of minutes later it reconnects. I have also noticed that this is causing my battery life to drain considerably faster. Does anyone have any idea on how to stop this problem. Thank-you.
some apps cause that
for me fring does it all the time when it's running in the background
best bet is discover which one it is and remove it if you must
personally I just manually kill fring when I'm not using it
I am trying to save battery life and force my phone to have only voice/sms/mms capabilities only. I have background data disabled, roaming disabled, 2G-only enabled, and fake APN. However there is still an EDGE icon and it periodically flashes the up/down arrow. Is it trying to poll for internet or is this just basic cell tower polling for voice calls?
Also, there is a method of disabling internet permanently through the testing screen, which requires entering a code to access. Is this method more complete than a fake APN and thus better for battery life? I am afraid to test it as I don't like messing with hidden menus and want to easily be able to revert back without having to remember a code.
And yes I am aware this is a smartphone, but I need it to be a light-weight featurephone for right now.
All I can add is that when I unlock (not carrier/sim unlock) the phone I can see the Edge icon with the arrows flashing for a sec or two before the WiFi goes out of sleeping mode. My NetCounter application doesn't pick up any data drawn during that time. So either it doesn't transfer any data with the Edge during that time or the application is not perfect.
I know that doesn't answer your question but it can give you hope that the icon _may_ not be reliable.
Edge icon means its running on 2.5g mode. Shouldn't bother you much. Install 3g watchdog and android and set it up. Have look at activaty. Only way to make sure

I'm not worried about data usage since I don't have a data plan. I'm only concerned about battery life, because it seems to be polling EDGE. If 2G voice calls and 2G data polled the same time using the same line and disabling data wouldn't really make a difference for battery, that would be good. But I'm not really sure.

Best battery life check: charge your phone up to 100% before going to sleep and unplug it, wake up and look at how much battery life you have left. It should be 98%+ if you didn't use it before going to sleep. This is even if you use it as an alarm clock and the screen is on for 3-10 minutes during your alarm/snooze/wake process.
Edge is a 2G network, the best way to test your device to see if it's doing anything is to open up an internet browser and see if you can get anything. If you can't open Google's homepage, your internet connection isn't being used and your standby battery life will be through the roof. This will also, in my experience, prevent apps from launching and causing partial wake issues and keep your phone idle time longer. I forgot my phone at home one weekend, came back home and lost like 8% of battery. I'd guess you are experiencing about the same if you can't get on the internet.
I noticed that battery is still an issue on galaxy phones, as it was on my late S6 edge + (before tweaking it), like 20% less battery after a 1h45 phone call....
My new s10+ did loose 20% a day, even on just turning on the phone and going thru parameters and such.. so I began to turn off uneeded stuff. But one begins to pss me off : sync keeps re eanbling itself even after being turn off.
Any ideas ?
