WiFI Problem - Question - P3600 General

Hello to all, I have a small (if therefore I can call it) problem with WIFI.
I have 2 access point, between house and office, all configred in the same way.
The problem is that with the P3600, i can connect on all of two, correctly aquire IP address, but i can surf Internet only to access point 1 (for example).
If I try instead being connected with the laptot PC there is not problem… It goes. Can you help me?
I try also to configure ip manually on 3600 but the result is the same.
I don't understand why i can surf on access point 1 and not on access point 2.

first thing i would check would be the dns... grab the ip for something and see if you can connect to it from the one your having problems with... if so its a dns problem!

WiFi and GPRS

For some reason I can connect to the internet very easily through GPRS (even when roaming), but at home with my own wirelss LAN, I can connect with no problem, but each time I try to access anything on the internet, I get a pop-up stating "Could not locate remote server". I don't have a router, I am using a desktop as the gateway, I am currently accessing the net with my laptop through the same means. All configurations for the LAN appear to be correct, but I must be missing something on the JAMin. In the WiFi settings, I see the LAN, almost full signal - Ad hoc Mode - status is connected - I'm assigned an IP ... seems like everything is in order.
Will one of you wizards point out what I've missed? I know it's probably simple, usually is.
If I'm having trouble connecting a device to a network that has previously been working ok, the first that I do is turn off all network security i.e WEP, MAC address filtering etc. Then reboot the wireless access point/router and your device. If you still can't connect, you can start to blame your device.
Don't think it's a network prob...
Thanks Matterhorn, but my laptop is still connected fine, no problems there... I get the feeling that the PPC's only recognising the GPRS as a valid network for internet access... it works okay when I login to a commercial WiFi network (when I'm in the States) but for some reason on my own network here at home, it logs in, just can't find a server for some reason. The first thing I thought of was the firewall, turned it off and still no luck.
Any other ideas? I thought maybe there was a setting for default AP or connection, but can't find it, nor can I find an appropriate reference in the manual. Ugh!
Resolved!
It would seem my JAMin was trying to access the internet not through the gateway, but through my laptop. As I don't have the laptop setup to share an internet connection, it would allow my JAMin to connect, but that was all. I went in the room where my desktop is, registered on the network there and bingo!
Too simple, should have tried that right away but it didn't occur to me at the time. Thanks for the help anyway Matterhorn!

wifi connection problem

Hi
I want to connect my x1 to my home wifi network. I got ZyXel router, with open wifi with mac filter, after i added my x1 mac to that filter, I can connect to my wifi, but IE/opera can't load any page, even though x1 write that, it is connected to my wifi... where can be problem?
Lol, I love those guys who protected their Wifi network with only a MAC filter. They give me free access to the internet every time.
Seriously, MAC-filters are bypassed within 15 seconds.
So how about changing your security to WPA and then trying it with your X1 again?
Btw, ontopic, check with vxUtils if your settings are correctly set up. It could be a missing DNS for example.
thx, i'll look into it, but shouldn't the dns be set up on router? why would phone need dns?
btw: i know mac filter is good fo nothing, but in my position someone would need to break in my house to enter the wifi area, mac filter is there just for quest with autolookup wifi and autoupdate on some softs.. but even if i deactivate the mac filter phone cannot connect... i mean it is connected.. it got an ip.. but cannot load any web page.
well on this soft i can see my ip, gateway, dns but WINS is not set.. i don't know if it need to... I even tried to set up dns manually but it didn't work either.. where could be the problem?
Are you able to ping the Gateway, your desktop, google's IP?
It could ofcourse be one of those 'compatibility issues' some mobile devices have with some routers.
[double post, caused by incredibly unresponsive XDA Forum]
I wanted to try that.. but i neve found cmd line to do this
Crazy thing.. now it is working.. without any action from me.. it is slow and has very weak signal if i'm in another room as router.. but it works.. i'll test it more deeply(when i'll get to some other free wifi) and write result someday.
Sorry to doublepost but as it seems, wifi still isn't working. Back then it just reloaded from memory when it was connected to pc.
In IE it writes "locating" so it really may be bad dns servers... but even if try to acces direct google IP. It stuck on locating and then write an error(connection lost..) I also tried to set up dns servers manually but it didn't work either.
Anything else I can try?
try
http://network-tools.en.softonic.com/pocketpc
Well, ping is full of timeouts(95% bad).. tracert also, but it can found ip from hostname so dns works... Same with pinging my desktop or gateway. It can't be signal i'm sitting next to my router with full signal on pocket pc.
btw: i used vxUtil for this, i couldn't download network tools.
is the gateway and ip of the device
set to be on the same subnet as
other wifi devices connected?
I'm using dhcp.. only pc got static ip. Mobile got the next available ip. I can't find subnet on mobile but there is no reason for it to use different than standart(/24).
I think that than it wouldn't ping anything... but it did.. only 5% but it did.
edit: yes other wifi devices(notebooks) can connect.
Keep in mind that the antenna of the X1 is very ****ty, when i am 1mtr removed from my router I get only mediocre reception, 2 'bars' according to Windows Mobile.
When I go to another room, the reception is lost, although WM says its still connected.
Does standing next to the router help anything? (ping)
Well I though so also... but even if i was less than a feet from antenna ping didn't change. I tried to look at it from other side, i mean what if problem is with router. So I updated firmware... and now it's working.. i can be nearly 10 meters away from router (between is atleast 1m wide stone wall). And with 1 bar I'm connected with real speed of 1Mb(1.5 is max). I got old notebook with also don't have n type wifi. And it's about the same distance. So it's nt bad.
Thank you all for help. And if anyone have similar problem with ZyXel wifi router, try firmware upgrade.

How to configure the WiFi Router application?

Please assist.
1. My PC identifies the HD2 as Ad-Hoc and not as Infrastructure. Is it the case?
2. The WiFi router application registers only the WAP APN in the internet connections. I usually use the Internet APN, why is it not chosen?
3. On my PC, should I enter the 10 digits WEP key for all four WEP key slots, or just into the first slot?
4. When I try to connect, the HD2 prompts me to enter a Static IP address (no DHCP support). Where should I enter it? what mask and gateway addresses?
Thanks
anyone using that app?
I tried, but I can't. Unlike the original poster, it tries to connect to my MMS access point, of course there's no internet access there. I haven't been able to figure out how to make it work yet.
Mine works perfectly but only if the HD2 is right next to the computer. For some reason the range is ridiculously minimal.

Battery drain, if the range was increased it would kill the battery.
I have the same problem as the first poster : I can't choose the correct 3G connection. Only one connection is displayed in HTC Wifi Router with one single radio button on its right and it's not the right internet connection for unlimited internet.
in order to choose the right APN, please choose SETTINGS>CONNECTIONS>CONNECTIONS>ADVANCED>SELECT NETWORKS and enter the right APN (Internet) in both tabs.
That will do the trick.
still, although HD2 is discoverable by my PC (in wifi Find networks), with a good reception level, my PC insists that it is an Ad-Hoc connection (no DHCP) and when I try to use Infrastucture (with the wep key), my PC cannot establish association (get IP address from the HD2) and it shows no signal level.
Please assist.
Zolom, thanks? I did that and it improved a bit the situation: now email clients work (pop) but web surfing still doesn't work. I didn't try yet other internet connections.
not working anymore
before i installed 1.48 everything worked perfect but after the upgrade it doesnt work anymore. now my computer can connect but the phone also connects to its own network.... very strange behavior.... tried to turn off wifi but that also turns off router. any suggestions anyone?
Voila I finally got rid of the "HTTP 403 Forbidden" error with a (partial?) solution.
I have installed user agent switcher (http://chrispederick.com/work/user-agent-switcher/installed/07/) for Mozilla on Windows Vista, and I entered the user agent of my ISP on my HTC HD2 . It works!
Questions:
- Is it possible to set the user agent on other browsers such as IE or Opera?
- I noticed the user agent is not necessary for pop3 email clients. Is user agent mandatory for other internet services, like Messenger, SIP, Skype, software updates, etc?

Wifi finally connected but cant browse

ok - i have gone through about 6 roms now and im constantly getting the same story.
i primarily use CM based roms cuz those are the only ones that seem to connect to ad-hoc networks shared from my computer. when i use CM7 roms the internet constantly connects and disconnects and when i use CM6 roms the phone says im connected but the PC doesnt see any present connections.. not even with connectify or the other hotspot programs seem to help
its strange cuz i also have an aria with a CM6 rom which connects flawlessly but the HD2 cant even be seen on the network.
PLEASE can anyone help me out with this problem? I've been awake for the past 2 days trying to fix this problem from all sorts of angles and i still cant connect to an ad-hoc wifi
i just tried connectify but the problem is the same, it says im connected but still there is no data coming from the computer. my MAC address appears fine so i have no idea what is causing the problem
not even changing the channels, editing wpa_supplicant, using static IP or DHCP... nothing helps..
just realized that if i try to connect while other devices like my aria are currently connected, the other devices get disconnected from the network.. no idea whats causing that but could use some insight
There is another longer thread with someone having the same or at least very similar problems. All non-Sense builds he's tried have wifi "connecting", but not actually transferring any data. When he loads up a Sense build, it all works fine. I'd look it up, but search unavailable for "10 minutes". I did comment on it though.
You wrote you try to setup an ad-hoc WiFi connection. This means you connect two devices together, not to a network (if you want to use your laptop as Internet bridge it's a more complex config).
You're talking about DHCP in ad-hoc connection... Do you setup a DHCP server on your computer (is this even possible)?
You said when you have other devices connected... this is not ad-hoc.
I think you try to connect the wrong way, sorry if I misunderstood but you have to provide more info for me to help.
As general advice:
Check for your ROM thread as initially their was a problem with all devices (with Android on HD2) having the same MAC (has been solved)
Start first to try to connect to a "normal" WiFi network
Make sur of the network config (try with basic b/g instead of n, n+...)
First step could be to setup a basic b/g network with DHCP enable, SSID broadcast, no security (wep,...): the kind of network you have when you take your access point out of the box.
No other advice... hope this will help.
Check the IP you have on your phone when connected. If it's kind of 169.xxx this can't work. It's auto IP from the device itself.
thanks for the response mate. Unfortunately, there are not many unsecured "routed" wifi connections available where i am to test - thats why i have to rely on the laptop to feed internet to my phones through an adhoc network.
let me explain what im doing:
im currently trying to use internet sharing from my laptop on my phones - i have 2 android phones, an aria and an HD2 - both of which connect to the internet through an ad-hoc wifi connection to the the laptop which has LAN internet connection.
the only way to connect is by issuing each device a static IP
eg. laptop - 192.168.0.1,
aria - 192.168.0.3,
HD2 - 192. 168.0.2
whenever i try to use DHCP i get "obtaining IP address" from the phones until it auto-disconnects.
using a static IP-Config, the aria connects and browses effortlessly. But the HD2 wont. Just says "connected" but the pc says "waiting for peers to connect" and doesnt feed any data to the HD2. Additionally, i found out that if the aria is already connected while attempting to connect the HD2, the aria gets kicked from the net..
if it helps, my rom is CMN V_2.0.. its the only one that gets me "connected", so to speak..
Then I will not be very helpful as I seldom use ad-hoc and bridge connection.
I connect my HD2 to my home network only (works in WEP or WPA anyway).
Just what I know:
1/ for ad-hoc you can't use DHCP (or you may have to activate a server on your laptop, this will add complexity to your setup)
2/ ad-hoc is only between 2 devices (1 laptop and 1 phone for ex), it could explain that when you connect the HD2 the other one is "kicked out".
3/ On your laptop you have to bridge your connections. Anyway, if with another device you can connect and broose, then your laptop setup has to be ok.
4/ if you're connected you may find a good IP in the HD2 (anyway if you use fix IP it has to be ok).
5/ to connect to a server you need a DNS. this is maybe what is missing. Usually when you connect to an access point you use the "AP IP". Not sure it can work here.
Try to manually put the DNS address in your HD2.
Just to make one test:
a/ from your laptop "ping" an Internet server (xda for ex).
--> Start menu, type "cmd", in the cmd windows type "ping server_name"
b/ from your HD2 try to connect with the IP instead of the server name.
This is the puprose of a DNS, to give your device the IP of a server.
NB: to find the DNS server used by your laptop:
In cmd type "ipconfig /all" it will give some info, you may find your DNS in it.
Sorry, no other idea...
I read again what you write and I think you can forget my previous post.
The answer from your laptop is different with the two phones.
I don't think it's a DNS problem.
Sorry, I will be useless! Hope someone with the same network config will help.
My home network is totally different.
If it's specific to your rom you can try to check in your ROM's post if other have the same problem. If no, try to ask there is someone has the same connection setup.
Edit: check this link, it seems that many people with non-sense build has problem with WiFi (I use sense build, always):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=907670
i would use a sense build but it seems all of them take up quite a lot of space from internal storage - im always left with 500-400Megs from the 1GB of space
its just odd because when i had a G1 (before i got my HD2) it connected effortlessly as well.. even more so, both aria and g1 could be connected to my laptop's adhoc simultaneously
OOOOHHH!!! i just rememberd hearing something about internet pass-through, but im not sure how ti works.. i will give it a try

HD2 Android WiFi Problem - Experience Sharing

The strangest thing I have even experienced, and perhaps can save you time and headache.
** Summary (for those not wanting to read the whole story, but just the fix)
If your HD2 Android can connect to your home WiFi but cannot access Internet, check if your WiFi network uses a 192.168.20.x IP subnet address. The HD2 Android's USB port uses the same subnet, causing a conflict. If you change your home WiFi to use any other subnet, it will work fine.
** The Long Story
Been reading and admiring all the Android developments in XDA-Developers for some time, finally decided it was time to give it a try. Picked one of the more popular and stable MDJ Froyo (Desire HD) for SD and loved it.
Problem is couldn't use the Internet via WiFi from my home. Internet via GPRS works fine, Internet via USB/PC works fine, just not WiFi. The connection to WiFi is successful, picks up a DHCP IP address just fine, but no Internet.
Oh well, perhaps there is a WiFi bug in HD2 Android not reported so never mind.
Wait! On a business trip, when HD2 Android connecting to the hotel's WiFi, Internet works fine! Subsequently in many other places WiFi works also flawlessly.
Must be the WiFi router at home. Not too surprising as I don't use much wireless but wired all my other computers (including notebook PCs), it is faster anyways.
So went back and tested WiFi on a notebook PC (prior to that upgraded the WiFi router's firmware), PC connects and works, but HD2 Android still not. Tried all kinds of WiFi and encryption combination (BGN, BG, G only, WPA2, WPA, WEP), just nothing works for HD2 Android. >> Conclusion: not the WiFi router at home, just HD2 Android working with this particular WiFi router.
Finally (but forgot what app it was), I saw the USB port binding to 192.168.20.x subnet, exactly the same as my LAN subnet in the WiFi router.
Bingo, changed the LAN subnet to something else (really anything is fine because it is inside a NAT so not an issue getting out to the Internet) and HD2 Android works like a charm.
Hope this helps.
sorry, can you explain more where to change in the router settings? i can't find anything to change in my wireless settings
Look up the LAN (local area network setting) in your router, where the IP address for most WiFi router is set to use 192.168.0.1
In my case the WiFi router is set to use 192.168.20.1 (and DHCP to pass out 192.168.20.x IP addresses).
By changing the IP address of the router, most router automatically change the DHCP assignment to corresponding subnet, say from 192.168.20.1 to 192.168.x.1
x can be any of 0 to 255, just not 20 for my case or it causes conflict with HD2 Android.
Hi Dear friend , And Thanks for sharing experiences.
I have the same problem , but my router's setting is :
IP Address : 192.168.1.1
and my Starting IP Address : 192.168.1.100
IP Pool Count : 101
DHCP : Enabled
NAT : Enabled
Default Route : YES
but no webpage loaded , the weather not work . but the meebo messenger
with my yahoo ID just worked .
so how can i fix it ?
tnx
I notice the conflict (with my 192.168.2.x) when I checked the HD2 IP addresses (after connecting to the WiFi). When I see the USB port bound to 192.168.2.x I know the two just conflict with each other.
If something (meebo messenger?) works but not others... could it be your HD2 not getting name resolution (DNS ?). Say if you try opening this do you get the Google page:
http://74.125.153.104/
** This is Google's page without the need to resolve via DNS.

and can u tell me how can I know about the port nimber . like USB port.
i think my Android's Kernels have been changes. maybe i'll can find something like this (equal IP address)
thanks.
I have following problem : At my university i have hidden Wifi network, locked with password.. But, ofcourse, we cracked their password, and now we can use their WiFi.. But i cant use it.. On WM i could use it .. One more thing to mention, there is a proxy u need to setup before u can go on internet trough that Wifi network.. but thats not my concerne yet.. I cant get connected to that Wifi.. I make new conn, with password and other settings, and it keep saying : Connecting... Disconnected...
Any ideas to help me ?
Thanks in advance
I had the same problem. I solved it by updating the radio to version 2.14.50.2. I think this version works best.
For me 2.15.50.14 works, too...
