The forums been great. but lately the activity around wm6 and cooking roms been making post confusing and searching for files confusing. threads have been growing to 200+ some are 1,600+ which makes looking for links or files that would take minutes to hours of clicking through old posts. "search" dont work when it links to treads of 200 plus. how about making a Sub-Forums called Files Only (no discussions) with sections for "RADIO'S" "Private Builds" etc..

The forum starts to be a big huge, there are allready dozen tricks or little hacks, that havn't even seen because hidden in a post somewhere.
So the idea would to collect all this tricks/hacks and index them in a wiki page. That way everyone could find them and if needed add some explanations; ( the wiki could also link to the post to get the full review and explanation for the futur)
Of course the wiki will not be the place to ask questions, just a list of all the technical details like registry hacks, hidden extended rom etc..
What do you think about this idea ?
It's here already, but needs some updating

Yep this is a good idea. I've created a suitable page at http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Universal_Registry - please could everyone add in their own hacks (with examples)?
ive pasted in all the reg's n tweaks ive collected up so far, needs editing to the same standards you set out, but i will action shortly.
Cool - a good set already!
Added the standard disclaimer at the top of the page so that people don't moan when they make the wrong change and break their Universal
Hi - not Wizard i know (but i only check the wizard pages so it'll have to go here)
Everytime i load the forum it only flags topics with unread posts since my last visit. So if i come on and read a couple of topics, then close my browser when i come back later the only "new post" topics shown are those with posts since my previous visit. Is there a setting somewhere i've changed by accident? normally an unread post (unread by me that is) will stay unread until i read it!
Thanx for the help, i'm pi**ed off reading the same topics & posts over & over, and sure i miss other topics which might prove informative to me
I have been working on a new version of the Wizard wiki for most of the day. I think the old one is badly organized and hard to navigate. However, I kept most of the same information. The links at the bottom were on the original wiki also, except they link to forum topics; I think that they are important enough to be turned into their own wiki pages. I don't mind doing this but I want to get some feedback from the community first... Reply and tell me if you think I am wasting my time, if you think I am doing a good job, what should be added/removed, what should be changed, etc. etc.

(If it becomes good enough I hope to make it the main Wizard wiki page...as I said, I find the current one hard to navigate.)
Hi,
as you have propably noticed there's couple discussions going on about the forum and some "experts" leaving it etc..
Good structure is very important for wiki and also for forums. So I think you've done a good job there...especially I like the idea to turn certain stuff to their own pages, links to the forum threads are just too messy.
I just finished transferring "How to determine if you have a G3 or G4 Wizard" and "How to SIM unlock and SuperCID unlock a G3 Wizard" into wiki format. Could (a few) people please proofread and triple-check these for me, I don't want anyone to ruin their device because of a misprint or a confusing sentence.
I would suggest you taking the hermes wiki as template for your structure / organization:

Well done Lee1733.
I have often thought the wiki was out of date and in need of some tidying up. The search facility on these boards is becoming unusable due to thread hijacking and repated posts. I pity new users who have to wade through pages of threads to find a simple answer. A good tip is to use google to search xda-developers as it does a better job of sorting the wheat from the chaff. Perhaps a link to google this site as well as the default search should be put in the header of each page.
The wiki is the best place for FAQs but it is down to all of us to keep it upto date.
I just finished adding/editing the "How to Change the Wizard's Splash Screens" and "How to 'Cook' an Extended Rom" pages. I basically copied this straight from http://www.molski.biz (and gave him credit at the bottom) so they should be correct. The only changes I made were some minor Wiki formatting changes.
Ok this thread is for you guys who keep asking for programs, games etc, all over the forums! Most of these can EASILY be found withough posting a new thread simply to get a solitare game! I'll give you a few tips on searching and where/how to find what your looking for!
First off, a great majority (if not all) programs and games, are installed through files called Cabinets! These are what we refer to as .CAB files. .CAB files are one file that contains multiple files, hence the word "Cabinet". These files are normally easy to find.
The easiest way to find a program is by using a site im sure were all fimiliar with! GOOGLE! Simply go there, if you know exactly what program/game your looking for type it in and add a .CAB on the end! (Example: Office Mobile.CAB) And right there under the first link, is a XDA thread with the Office Mobile download that ive seen asked for all over this forum!
The second way is thru the XDA Forum Search, and guess what! Its google again! Though this ONLY searches the XDA forums! Just be specific with it! (Example: HomeScreen PlusPlus)
The third way I've found is from Freeware For PPC this site hap PLENTY of freeware! Games, Programs, Themes, Etc! Use it!
If you still cant find what your looking for, post it in this thread or another dedicated thread for programs/games! Id be happy to assist in search, let's just keep these threads clean! Happy hunting!
Hey everybody i'm working on creating a finger friendly website for the hd2. i was wondering if anybody wouldn't mind if i used your tweaks and apps. if so just post the link to your thread that has your cab files on it please.
huh? Are you asking in a thread for people to either allow/deny you posting their apps and creations? If you want to contact people for permissions, how about sending them a private message on the forums? The chances are greater that way, instead of hoping they will all find your thread /:
yeah im asking permsion to use peoples cabs. i was hoping people would post there stuff instead of me having to search over every thread to find the stuff.
OK.....Where?
link please
Proposal:
If I get You right it will be sumthin like a HD2-XDA-freewarepocketpc-app-and-mod-site ?
Good idea !
Please care in any case that mods/apps are separated in sections for different ROMS (stock-ROMS at least) to avoid a mess from the beginning.
I'm still working on the site. I'm not going to publish anything that's not even halfway done
That's a great idea! We can get HD2 apps and mods on the move.
Try PMing all the people who created the mods and hacks. That way you'll reach them faster instead of waiting for them to find this thread.
