Can anybody tell me what is the maximum capacity of a microSD card that the Hermes can take? I want to buy the biggest it will support!
Thanks
With the newest cooked WM6 Roms, the hermes now supports SDHC cards. Thus, it should work with any of the newest SDHC MicroSD cards. The size limit is currently 4GB b/c that is the largest Micro SD card available. It should work fine with the 8GB cards when they hit the market. I currently use a 4GB Sandisk MicroSD and it works perfectly.
second that, 4gb micro sandisk. anyone find them cheaper than $100 at verizon stores? i scoured the web hard to find in stock
thnx, i probably will buy a 4gb microsd now

Best I can find is new w/ SD adapter for $70 shipped on Amazon.com from a merchant with decent ratings.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-list...1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1185308232&sr=1-1
I don't know this merchant, never dealt with them so buy at your own risk

Q on 4Gb SD Micro SD Card
Hey guys,
I use an XDA Orbit which i got from UK, had the ROM upgraded to tom codon's B&B 3.5 and now going for the 3.7 version. I currently uses a 512MB SD. So I was thinking of getting a 2GB SD, but seeing that eBAy has 4GB ones I thought to get that one.
Here is the problem, I was wonderin whether it will support 4GB. can any one who had used a 4Gb tell me does it support in an orbit running WM6 B&B PDViet 3.7. How's the file transfer rate and all that. If by any chance the orbit supports a 4GB card, which type exactly, I mean the HC ones, I really donno what that is, I read it in the forum somewhere. so pls tell me.........
Cheers.
What's an Orbit?? This is Hermes area.

I think the cooked ROM's that now have SDHC capability are truly awesome. I use an X500 (ETEN) and I'm extremely jealous, as we don't have that capability yet !!
My question: do these new SDHC ROM's also have the ability for backwards compatibility ? That is, if you insert a 2Gb FAT16 card in the slot, will the O/S read/write OK ?
Resurrecting an old post so I don't hear "use the search funcion"...
Anyone tried one of the new 16gb cards with their Hermes?
Looking to upgrade for my BB, but want a card compatible w/ my Hermes as well...
4GB in use,i think 8GB is supported.
16Gb reported to work too, can't say as I only use an 8Gb. No probs there though...
I updated to one of the wm6.1 ROMs & i use a 16GB microSD in my Hermes (MDA Vario II)
Fat32 is the key
Since a card is formatted under FAT32 filesystem, its limit is 2 Terabytes if it is formatted with 64k clusters or 8 Terabytes under 32kb per cluster.
Of course, the actual memory card is limited to 16gb but upgraded every year.

In other words: Do Athena support SDHC/Secure Digital 2.0?
Thanks!
Maximum size it supports is 4 GB mini-sd.
I haven't tried yet, as I got a free 2GB card with my purchase
in a famous german PPC forum it was stated that it actually DOES support 4gb sdhc. users have tried it there and 4gb sdhc (i think from transcend) definetely worked.
if it does support higher sdhc like 8gb? only time will tell.
and 4gb non-sdhc cards work too, i use one in my athena.
Excellent! Just ordered a 4 GB mini-SDHC card.

The Athena is SDA 2.0 SDHC compliant, so MiniSDHC up to 32GB will be supported.
8GB MiniSDHC has already been spotted, 16 soon to follow...and so on.
For now 4GB is working fine!!
link?

I am having nothing but problems here. My 4gb will allow me to transfer and save files to it via activesync, but they all dissappear from it as soon as a/s is disconnected! I also tried saving them to the microdrive and then doing a cut-and-paste to the card, but they all dissappeared again!
Any info would be good......Later
UPDATE: I tried using my pc and d/l ing files to the card with it out of my X7500 and in the card reader, and they all save, open, and run fine once it is put back into the device! I tried both the 1 gb card I had and the 4gb card I purchased this way,and both worked! This must be a problem with the rom IMHO.Hmmm.......
Later
I use an 8525. Just noticed that a 4 GB Micro SD is now coming out. Before I buy one, does anyone know if it is possible to use these in the 8525, or will I need 3rd party software, or is there an update I can make??
I got a SanDisk 4Gb Micro SDHC card and it works fine in my SPV M3100 (HERM100) with Schaps 3.60a
Formatted capacity is about 3.8gb
Yes it will work as long as you are runing winmo 6. Next time do a quick google search for it (site:xda-developers.com what you are looking for goes here), this question comes up about once a month.

XDA Trion?
Hi, I went and purchased a Sandisk 4gb micro SD for my new 02 XDA Trion. Sadly the card will not show up on the phone.
The card works as I have tested it on my computer.
Do I have to install Winmo6 to get the card to work on this phone? Help please?

6 GB
I 've just seen a 6 gb micro sd card advertised. Would this work too?
6GB should work with WM6. Looks like ship date is 10/06/2007 in the US
Some cooked ROMs might not have the sdhc support cuz it wasnt cooked in, but that would be stupid and it will usually be listed in the specs of the ROMs if it is or isnt.
If there is sdhc (hc = high capacity btw) then anything above 2 gb should work.
HI Guys NEWBIE Question here...
I have a Tmobile Vario 2, Tytn, flashed to the htc tytn wm6 rom...found it here and seemed the most official so i went for that one...so my question is, does any version of wm6 support the 4gb or is it specific cooked versions? thanks

the 6gb card has been on ebay for a while, Im suprised no one has tried it!

Yes I experienced the same thing. I purchased a 4gig minisd card but it would not even read the card as if it wasn't there. After that, I purchased a 2gig and that worked fine.
I think the problem with some of those 4gig minisd cards is that they are dual-partition and the Wizard(to the best of my knowledge) does not support dual partition sd cards like other PPC's such as the TyTN II.
Why don't just have a look into the accessories section instead of a new thread? ... you will find a couple of other threads about the topic already!
BTW, miniSDHC are not supported!

I actually dual partitioned mine myself using wm5storage and it works fine that way. As far as I know, nobody's actually figured out why 4 Gb cards work for some people and not for others and their are still others that they work for but the cards constantly get corrupted. I'm part of the latter group, but since I've been using a newer version of a cooked WM6 the card hardly corrupts at all anymore.
I'm looking to finally jump in and pick up an Advantage, but would like to skip the micro-sd format. If I pick up a 4GB microSDHC card with adaptor so it can be used in a miniSD slot, like this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820134528
...is there any reason the Advantage wouldn't read it? Has anyone tried this?
Thanks,
Galt
I use microSD with adaptor. It work
Thanks, good to know.
Is there any reason you don't just buy a 4Gb MiniSD? That's what I have in my Athena and I use it alongside the MicroDrive.

I kinda feel like mini is already a dead format, most new HTC devices use micro, so I don't want to invest in it. Also, I'm buying the Advantage as kind of a temporary device, I think I'll be replacing it in less than a year with a device that likely uses micro. If I bought mini it'd be a waste.
I'm sure they will have changed format again in a year! LOL

Now that is a reason - if you want 6Gb now.I have a 4Gb Mini in my Athena now and if I get a device that takes Micro in a years time I'm sure larger capacites will be available.
And it does beg the question 'Can the Advantage read 6Gb cardsor is 4Gb the max'. Am I right in presuming that if it can read a4Gb SDHC (as opposed to SD) card, then it should be able to read a 6GB SDHC card OK?
Has anyone actually tried a 6Gb card?
And if they do work am I going to buy one. I know I shouldn't but.....
I'm using a Kingston 4GB SDHC with a mini adapter on my Dopod U1000 (still original firmware). Performance is faster than the in-build Microdrive. 4GB is the smallest SDHC capacity. It is not a problem to use a 6GB or even the 8GB SDHC from Kingston.

He said SDHC, which has the 8 GB capacity. The largest microSDHC capacity is only 6 GB, so I think this is not what he meant.
Not so fast.. 8GB MicroSD has already been announced, and will be hitting stores soon, if not already.. MicroSD is also SDHC Compatible. Besides have you ever thought he OP, might have missed/left a word out?

Correct, OP meant to say he wanted to use micro to mini adaptor to avoid miniSD format.
I'm not aware that kingston already sells 8gb microSDHC. That's good news if this is true. Any head up on where I can source this? Samsung's is still vapourware (2008 availability) AFAIK.
Samsung, Sandisk and Toshitba all have plans for 8GB in the works.
One of them will be selling soon, as opposed to 1-2 yrs from now..
Sorry for the confusion. I have a Kingston 4GB microSDHC in a mini adapter on my Dopod U1000 (original firmware). My friend has a SanDisk 6GB microSDHC (bought in the US) also in a mini adapter on his Dopod U1000 (upgraded to Dopod WM6). The Kingston 6GB microSDHC is expected in the stores in Kuala Lumpur around Christmas (according to the local distributor) and the 8GB microSDHC sometime Q2 2008.
When I bought mine just a couple of months ago, they only had 4 GB max. Soon, we'll have double that amount. Wow, this is just fantastic. As big as our harddrive! What speed class would it be I wonder. I'm going to put all my musics in there. Currently I'm constrained by the lack of capacity, and am using multiple miniSD to swap in and out. In future I won't need to do that anymore.
8 GB available in UK NOW
8 GB available in UK NOW yep carphone wherehouse are selling 8GB micro sd's now 70.00GBP so we can have 16gig in total WOW i want one once confirmed these work with athena unless i get the shift.....
Hello folks, this is my first post.
I want to buy a SD card for my Kaiser (-> T-Mobile Germany MDA Vario III to be exact).
Each time I call the service, i get a different answer. Sometimes the SDHC works with the Kaiser, sometimes only the SD does, sometimes the 8GB would work but sometimes the Kaiser can only take cards up to 4GB.
So my question to this awesome forum is:
1. Do 8GB SD cards work with a T-Mobile Germany MDA Vario III?
2. Does a T-Mobile Germany MDA Vario III take SD as well as SDHC cards?
Thanks in advance!
Hi. I see no reason why the a German version of MDA Vario III wouldn't accept an 8GB memory card. The TyTNII (registered name) is SDHC enabled and I have read on numerous websites that it has the ability to accept memory cards of up to 32GB.
I, like you, have the T Mobile MDA Vario III, only I live in the UK. I'd think that different brand names for practically the same device (TyTNII) would be fundamentally simmilar, and that if a TyTNII and UK T mobile MDA Vario III could accept an 8GB SDHC card, then it would be no different with the German MDA Vario III.
I am currently looking for the best 8GB memory card, with memory card reader too. Tell you what, get an 8GB memory card, and if it somehow doesn't work, just return it and explain that you had good reason to believe that it was compatible with your device
Mine is arriving from MemoryBits.co.uk very soon hopefully. £43.62 (+p&p) with USB card reader.
I'll let you know if it works!
ok! thanks both of you a lot! ill probably buy one and then return if it doesn't work, just as one of you proposed (the number guy )
(btw, thanks for the awesome fast response)
one problem is, you know, its the 20 december and id like to have it on the 24th for obvious reasons, so i think i cant afford waiting until you get yours, but still AWESOME thanks, foaf!!!
Boy are we in the same boat I received my sdhc 8gb just in time for Xmas but the Tytn 2 is still under the tree in its box :/
Sandisk provides the tiniest usb reader ever! I had trouble removing the micro card without breaking a nail
I also noticed that the card was formatted in fat32. So here comes a noob question: I assume there's no ntfs in winmobile?

No it's not, as SDHC is the newer format required to go above 4GB and it's on available on MicroSD, MiniSD, and SD Cards.

I just ordered a 8GB card - can't wait to get it
Do you guys use the Cardreader or go through the USB Active Sync?
It seems taking the micro SD card out all the time would break the little plastic bit covering it :-(
you don't have to take the card out for just normal use, but if your going to be loading a lot of music or a couple movies at one time you might want to take it out of the phone and use the card reader cause it is much faseter.
Yea, I just ordered the 8 GB Sandisk from ebay. Should be here any day now. I can't wait!!!
Although in a few months when there's a 16 GB card out, we'll all be sad.
Damn technology.
I got an 8GB Sandisk for Christmas and it came with a SanDisk card reader. Looks like a little USB jump drive and you just slide the MicroSD in it.
I had to use it to format the old 2GB MicroSD I was using as when my daughter tried to put it into here Blackberry Curve the Blackberry objected profusely. LOL
Funny thing is all I did was throw the USB adapter in a Vista box and it recommended fat32. I wonder what format was on it when it was in my Tilt?
If it was Fat32 why the hell did it need formating?
