First be sure it's not just a lag in response, that might be a software problem.
Before assuming a hardware issue - do a hard reset. If it persists with no additional software then it is likely a hardware matter.
You may have a loose connection to the keypad module - it has a rather delicate push in connection with two tiny screws.
You might need a new module:

this is the TyTn version.
I'm not sure if you may be covered by manufacturer's warranty.

Possibly the contact, which is used to detect if the keyboard is open, might not be working.
Mikechannon is the hardware guy on the hermes and im sure he will come across this post at some point
ok thanks but the thing is that i didnt replace to i guess the guy who did it is goin to have to fix it
Hi
I don't have one opened up in front of me but yes Mrvanx has it I think. One of the multi connectors is either un-plugged or not pushed in fully. There is one that is quite liable to "pinging" off unless it's firmly pressed home. No guarantees but I'd be fairly confident that that's all it is. The guy should have checked it after the repair!

This is the likely culprit. It's easy to forget to press it home as it curls itself round on its mylar cable and rests on the connection (ie looks connected but may not be pressed into the connection). Good news is that it's not a major dismantling job. All it needs is the back off to reveal it.

this has happened over 5 months ago my screen had turned white with a bunch of straight lines coming down from the screen, this was after i was trying to update my phone and in which i had not tampered with it when it was updating. I've tried to mess with it when i took it apart to see if i could fix it, and after a few hours i got sick of it and just junked it somewhere in my room. Now that i have read the possible fix's for the screen, what i found out is that once i disconnect the connector to the buttons at the bottom the screen would just become white instead of the color strands on it. I've even tried to re-update it but the same problem still persist. If anyone has any idea how i can fix this problem that would be great.

Thank You For Reading My Problem
Steve
no one has any solution for this problem ?
can anyone help me please ? or has anyone had this problem.
Looks like Lcd flex cable may be loose. You'll have to pretty much dismantle your Hermes and see. Go to this site for HTC manual - http://michael-channon.spaces.live.com/
You should also PM Mike Channon if you really need help or advice as he is the Hardware specialist.
Cheers...
thank you for the help and the support bro.

This happens if there is even a very momentary loss of power. Before assuming anything too complex, I would check to make sure the battery is absolutely firm against its contacts. You can insert a strip of card between the casing and the battery. See here:

If the problem remains, then I would suspect one of the internal flex cables.

thx for fast answer mike
testing now ^_^
i second that
I had the same issue with an extended battery. I used some duct tape to make a tighter fit and havent had any problems since then. I guess a strip of card is a better idea, but duct tape seems to work (plus its more manly ).
HI,
how to make a softreset without opening rear cover?
With a program like PsShutXP.

Switch the device fully OFF with a long press of the power switch, then switch it back on again. Easy. No extra software required.
Take out the battery would do the same.
And reading wiki would help as well.

you meant to disassembly it?
Well, you may have to dissemble it.
My elf has the same problem with the on/off button. I opened the unit and the problem is that the little switch on the circuit board has failed because it's not springing back after it's been pressed . The switch is very small and looks difficult to replace. The camera and reset buttons use the same type of switch, so I'm considering removing the switch used for reset, and soldering it into the on/off switch position. However, as I mentioned, the switches are very small so I'm worried that a heat gun or soldering iron will damage the board. Anyone know an HTC parts supplier that may sell these little switches?
