Moving data from desktop to XDA II top with USB sync cable.

Absurd that everything in my calender and email syncs up - but after owning this phone now for over a month I still have not managed to figure out how to move other data or install programs.
It must be really easy. I just don't have a manual for the phone. Is there a site with the user manual?
Sorry for this stupid question...
try doing a google search for xda manual pdf i'm sure it's out there in plenty
you install programs if they are pc install programs but running the exe file on the pc then it will install using activesync
you install programs in form of cab files by double clicking on them on your device
you run exe files made for pda's by clicking on the pda they dont need installs
you get data to the pda by
1 putting the files in my pocketpc documents or what ever it's called in your my doc dir
2 clicking on the explore device button in activesync or clicking on the pda icon in my computer
thank you for that explanation. it worked! I did find the user manual as a pdf file. It was helpfull - but this forum seems ahead of the curve.
One last question - have most people on this forum with the XDA II upgraded to the magneto OS?
i havent
it being beta i'm waiting to see how stable and compatible it wil be when buzz and people are don with it
sure it's a toy but it's also a tool and my current rom does work for my current needs

converting *.mdb to cdb using activeSync 4.0

Hi guys
I use sprintDb Pro (database app) from kaione Soft and recently upgraded to WM 5.0 (thanks Buzz). Problem is that AS4 has a problem copying my databases to the desktop and vice versa. It says : access denied and general access error
other filetypes copy and convert with no problems. Would somebody using WM 5.0 please copy a *.mdb file to their XDAII and report what happened please ?
bump
hmm, just found this :
Note Synchronizing and converting Access database files is available only on devices running Windows Mobile software for Pocket PC 2003 and earlier.
bit strange I think, not funny
I get these same errors, Ive spent a day looking at MDB converters and had some limited success.... But I just want to plug my phone in and let it synch automatically.... Anyone got a surefire method or way around the errors the OP mentioned.
just edit registry key from 2 to 1 at
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Policies\Policies\00001001
then soft reset and try syncing again.

It is incredible I had the problem that even after installing SprintDB I could not sync the database between my PocketPC and the PC.
But this simple registry hack solved the problem. Where did you find it? there is no indication about this in the SprintDB manual, nor on kaione web site!
One important thing, I have WM5.

Well, I did the same and it does not work because in the conversion settings for Microsoft Access in ActiveSync there is no option to convert from mdb to cdb , consequently it simply transfers the file from the desktop without converting it.
I also have wm5 and using latest ActiveSync.
Any help?
gonzaloblanco1992, I had no problem at all with the registry hack. Maybe try again after a fresh new installation.

Is someone working on this?

According to this text extracted from an interesting review of the Touch Diamond (http://www.pocketnow.com/index.php?a=portal_detail&t=reviews&id=1077&p=1)
"By default, when you plug the Diamond into your computer with the USB cable, it asks you if you want to use ActiveSync or connect as a Disk Drive. If you choose "Disk Drive," the 4GB of Internal Storage will show up on your computer as a regular USB external hard drive or memory stick. That way you can copy/transfer/open files to your heart's content without having to install ActiveSync and without even needing to use a Windows PC (you can use a Mac or Linux machine instead)."
My question is... Someone is working on porting this functionality to other devices?
I know that there are already alternatives such as WM5torage or CardExport. But the option in the Touch Diamond seems to have interesting details.
...Greetings!! ;-)
New Wm 6.1 roms have this feature....
Just use USBtoHD function.....
Really? I have 6.1 a few months but this function is not in 6.1...

The rom you mention comes with WM5Torage 1.8... It does not seem very logical if the system itself has this function.
I'm not sure that we are talking about the same thing.
USBtoHD in diamond is made specialy for a flash (nand) part and it's not working at the moment with the sd-cards.

Have you any information on where to touch the reg.
It would be great to mount a CAB with everything needed to run this on Kaiser, Touch Cruise,...
Total Commander
I always use Total Commander which you can download here: http://www.techspot.com/downloads/301-total-commander.html
with the "wince-plugin" which you can download here: http://ghisler.fileburst.com/fsplugins/wincefs.zip
Connect your device with ActiveSync or WMDC and your device (WM5 and WM6) will appear in your network environment.

OK... That is a good way to access the file system of our PDA's. But there are many different reasons that make it more useful to be able to use it as a pendrive.
But thanks for your help 'Frepke'.
Well nice to haer that gullum!!
To make sure we are talkin about USBToPCPopUp from diamond?
Can you share your working package?
tnx!

HTC Snap is a Windows Mobile 6.1 Standard based mobile so you can access this from any Windows based PC using "Windows Mobile Device Center" (for Vista or Windows 7) or Active Sync for lesser version of Windows OS.
Start above software in PC and Connect your device to PC using provided USB cable and make sure the device driver is installed in PC. And this should make sure you are now connected to PC.
Reg. Backup: You can use Microsoft Outlook to Sync (Sync is better than Backup) your PIM data like Contacts, Calender, Task etc. But note that Outlook cant backup SMS and Call History etc, which PIM Backup can backup.
Cheers!!!
