LA 3G coverage [COOKS/MODS/ROMS PLEASE HELP] - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

KNOW THIS IS LONG BUT IT IS INTERESTING! JUST GET THROUGH IT!
ON 6 July 2007 I posted:
[I was driving home from work on Vanowen St from North Hollywood, an area which has had 3G coverage for quite a while, while watching some free MobiTV in the LA traffic. My eyes widened with excitement when the phone (running BLACK MAGIC LE) showed full HSDPA reception as a crossed Lindley Ave, then Reseda, then Tampa, and all the way to my place on Winnetka where the HSDPA was still on but at 2-3 bars of reception. HOWEVER, to my great dismay, as soon as I ended the data call, the same ol' "E" was right back up there... forcing WCDMA + going back to where I was apparently getting full 3G reception failed to pick up UMTS... Now, given what little knowledge I have + some educated guessing, I suspect one of the following scenarios as being the culprit of this disgusting event:
A. There could have simply been a glitch in the phone, where it showed the H and 3G symbols instead of the E; HOWEVER, the streaming video on MobiTV was significantly better than anything i've seen on EDGE. Maybe some caching may be responsible for this?
B. Newly activated UMTS towers were able to register my phone when it attempted to continue an existing HSDPA data call, but have yet to be instructed to register idle phones looking for signals.]
Today, after repeating the same process while using speed tests to verify HSDPA speeds, I contacted AT&T and again, luckily, got to someone who knew his sht. He went ahead and listed some UMTS tower locations in my area and along my route home from work (Vanowen St) but stated that the towers were set for PUBLIC activation on 2 August 2007. So theres it is, the official launch date for 3G accross the whole SFV is 8/2/07. NOW, as for me being able to connect to these "unactivated towers": the tech agreed with my theory that while the towers fail to register my phone from a reset and kick it off upon data disconnection, they ARE OBVIOUSLY ACTIVE because I am able to connect to them, but only when entering their range while on an ACTIVE HSDPA connection. So here are my questions for the COOKS/MODS/PROS:
1. Are you aware of what method these towers may be using to screen phones for "testing purposes" (IMEI maybe?)?
2. Is there any way to trick the tower into registering my phone without having to drive to an "active" 3G zone and back?
ANY FEEDBACK WILL REALLY BE APPRECIATED!!!

Thanks very much for the ifo. I have no idea how you connected to HSDPA before it was actually released? Was it that much faster than UMTS?

T-mobile hsdpa activation proof!!

I have had a t-mobile vario 2 for the last 5 months. when I first got the phone I was excited to get the hsdpa activated and quickly phoned up tmobile and got through to a tech guy who activated it. I didnt really notice much speed improvement and tmobile only shows the 3g and not the h for hsdpa, but I was pretty happy with my speeds of around 70kbit/sec (tested through http://text.dslreports.com/myspeed?jisok=1). I downloaded fieldtest_157 which showed that I was connected to hsdpa but the values showed through hsdpa cqi status were very low.
after the activation I started getting the dreaded freeze that only a soft reset could fix and missed loads of calls. about 1 month ago I was suddenly unable to go online whenever my phone went into 3g mode, I was only able to when it switched to gsm. I phoned tmobile to get the freeze problem fixed. they said it was a known issue with the phone and made me permenantly switch my phone to the gsm network. I was basically told that my phone does not support 3g and hangs on switching from gsm to 3g for no apparent reason and that they were working on the problem. they must have done something on their side because when I switched to phone back on to auto network switching, I got gsm and 3g connectivity and downloads but not hsdpa (checked with fieldtest_157)
next day because I was unhappy with the download speed I phoned tmobile and asked for hsdpa reactivation. the first level ignorant pleb who answered made me hang on and reactivated hsdpa. same problem cant download except on gsm switch. rephoned tmobile and got through to another 2nd level tech guy and explained all my connection problems.he said that my phone had never been hsdpa connected and connected it for me. what do you know Im suddenly getting 950kbit/sec speeds and hsdpa cqi status shows all high teens or 20's. for some reason my battery is lasting allot longer and 5 months after getting the phone Im happy. my phoned hasnt hanged yet either.
moral of the story is to download fieldtest_157 from:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_Utils
and check hsdpa status because either lots of bull is being told to tmobile customers or there are some pretty stupid people working there.
While this may be good for you I'm not sure if it is the solution for everyone.
When I first got my Vario II in August I was getting 300Kbps downloads. 5 minutes after phoning them it was 1.3Mbps, even though the girl said she didn't know what the problem could be (she did speak to someone in technical though).
For the last two or so weeks HSDPA has been very intermittent. Most dns requests fail. And if I am lucky enough to get a stable connection, speedtests show around 150Kbps
Fieldtest shows
CQI...1 3
........2 1
.....3-8 0
........9 4
......10 1
After reading another post here, suggesting that a solution may be to disable HSDPA, I get almost perfect Internet access, allbeit with lower data speeds of on average 280Kbps.
Surely if HSDPA was not enabled on my SIM, then it would be how it originally was and I would just connect with UMTS at around 300Kbps, not connect with HSDPA and not be able to do anything.
But I'll phone them, again, and ask for a HSPDA reactivation anyway.
Actually, thinking about my scepticism.
I was recently in Singapore using a prepaid SIM which does not have 3G access. The phone kept connecting to the 3G signal and then reported 'no service'. Obviously after selecting GSM only everything was fine.
So perhaps there is a similar kind of problem here. Whether the fault is with the phone or network(s) I don't know. I did try radio 1.06, which I believe was the original shipped version but that was the same.
i'm so glad i read this!! just called up t-mobile, they activated my HSDPA (thought it was just on by default)!.
tests so far showing 1.3 mbit download speed, i'll try in my home area too later tonight.
I'm seeing the "H" icon, not the "3" icon. using the latest HTC ROM that came out in january, not the default t-mobile one.

I was getting intermittent hsdpa also and dns failures (except in gsm) and getting really fraustrated. I was going to ask for deactivation. Luckily the technician I spoke to (about the tenth person in 3 days) that eventually got me connected, new his stuff. He tried to trick me into admitting that I was using my phone as a modem for my computer and only connected me after I denied it. It might sound like conspiracy theory but I got the feeling that he only connected me when it sounded like I knew slightly more than the average Joe. My hsdpa connection has been faultless ever since. Getting consistently high speeds even with 1 bar. high speeds is not 90kbit/sec smads!! and even worse dns failure.
I had similar fieldtest numbers before my proper activation. now all much higher.
just ran a few more tests on this...
i manually set the phone to 3G instead of HSDPA (tool is somewhere in this forum). speed was about 280kbit.
HSDPA on and i get between 700 and 1200kbit. not as fast as the original 1300 i benchmarked earlier, but still great

More 3G woes in Glasgow

3g has been up and down a lot in the Glasgow area. Right now, I can connect but not actually do anything while connected to 3G (GPRS is fine). Can anyone else in this area confirm that 3G is not working? Is this a Glasgow thing or is it happening throughout the UK?
Bobby
Do you mean specifically for Tmobile or any 3G network in Glasgow?
Have you spoken to Tmobile about this?
I'm down south and having problem recently at my home address.
I mean specifically T-Mobile.
I must say, I am unimpressed with T-Mobile's fast data service. Their 3G service is down most of the time and they are reluctant to enable HSDPA even when you ask them to.
T-Mobile
Hi
I use my Vario-2 connected to a laptop daily on my commute between Stirling and Edinbugh. Some days it works brilliantly, most of the time its so-so and sometimes it wont work at all!
Its a t-mobile issue, but they wont acknowledge it or fix it. They just keep asking me to provide them with 5 reports of it not working properly incl postcodes (which I do) then I hear nothing.
One thing I find all the time is that disabling HSDPA fixes many of the issues. Basically, HSDPA does not work well when I am moving. I notice this with downloads which may run at 70KB/sec when in the station, but as soon as th train starts to move they drift away to nothing. The phone does not switch back to vanilla UMTS soon enough when HSDPA stops performing properly.
I now run with HSDPA disabled except when I am stationary.
I wish there was a way to disable HSDPA without having to soft reset the phone for the enable/disable (of HSDPA) to actually take effect.

After 2 Weeks, I Am Throwing In The Towel

I received the Samsung Focus 2 weeks ago today. After I post this I will be heading over to Amazon Wireless to make return arrangements.
I come from a Windows Mobile (Tilt 2) and I don't think I am yet ready to transition to this type of phone. I depend too much on Pocket Informant and I couldn't find any app to replace that. Actually this is not really the reason I gave up. This is the reason that kept me on the fence.
At my work I have a very poor 3G signal indoors. The signal fluctuates between 2 bars to no signal indication and sometimes switching to Edge. With the Tilt 2 I turn off 3G and that keeps the phone happy. Several times I found the Focus showing no signal (small crossed out circle at the top left). Even after I went to an area with good 3G signal the Focus did not change from its no signal status. I had to actually turn it off and back on (soft reset, I guess) to get a strong 3G signal.
Searching on Google for means to turn 3G off in the Focus showed that only a few months ago there was such an option Settings | Cellular. Apparently now it is removed.
With 3G trying desperately to hang in there instead of just giving up and letting Edge take over, this phone is useless to me 8 to 12 hours a day. The Tilt 2 had a similar issue before I tweaked it to give me the band switch. However the Tilt 2 did not get stuck in the no signal state. I wish AT&T did not remove this from settings.
So long, Focus.
Um... there's totally still an option called Cellular in Settings. Whatever, though. If you don't enjoy the phone, there's no reason for you to keep it. However, there's equally no reason for you to share this information with us, since a large part of your issue is born of ignorance of the OS (not finding a setting that is clearly there) and your lack of enjoyment of the phone should have no effect on anyone who owns one.

Yes, the Cellular option is still there, in Settings. However, unlike screen shots or pictures I saw during my search (see this sample), I do not have the option to turn off 3G.
If your phone has it, good for you. Mine does not. Hardly a reason to call me ignorant for this though.
That's strange. My Focus appears to have better reception than my Tilt 2.
Actually, the 3G only setting is under the diagnostic menu I believe. The should have a thread in this forum on it.

For me, side by side, the 2 phones had a similar reception. The Tilt 2 got an extra bar or 2 when I forced it to Edge. However, the Tilt 2 did not get stuck with the no signal indication.

While at this moment I do not have the phone with me, I just looked in the PDF I downloaded from that other thread (the PDF shows [2] Band Selection) and I remember that I was in that area and when I tried to make a change I got a message saying something about the selection or option being restricted. Sorry, but I do not remember the exact words. I guess I could try again later tonight after I get home. Thank you.

When I select "[2] Band Selection" the exact message is:
"RAT Selection option is restricted".
Yeah, that's what I got. I also got my phone from freaking Amazon.com and didn't work right. Had do alittle talking around but they me exchange it at the Att Wireless Store. Have you actually tried any other Samsung Focus Phones to see if its just the phone itself?
I got mine from att store, I'm using the org diagnostic app version, I get same error message.

I would switch phones then. The phone has to be unlocked to switch bands, even turning off 3G. That's stupid, I know. I have a Dell Venue Pro sitting here that can switch bands but that phone is VERY buggy.

FWIW: 3G = "Data Connection" on the Focus' settings menu. As far as I know, 3G has nothing to do with voice calls. I suspect that the name of that switch was changed with an eye toward future data options on cell phones. I hope that helps. (Even the person who posted that picture notes that they modified the label to be "Cellular Data". You can see that in the comments area of the image/post that you listed. )
GrayWolf is correct
These are GSM phone and voice only works on 2G.. data on 3G and Edge if necessary. that is why you can talk and use the internet at the same time. You turning 3G off does nothing for your call reception what so ever. When you turn off the Celluar data you turn off both 3G and edge. Also I believe the bars are only for the voice service.

This might very well be correct, however on my Tilt 2 I have to turn off 3g in order to get full voice bars back in the location where my room is in my house. It doesn't seem to make any sense; why would the phone's 3g connection interfere w/ the 2g voice? Yet it seems like this is the case.

Sorry. I may have used the wrong terms. After all I admit I am not really familiar with all the terminology. I am more like a user. Anyway, on my Tilt 2 phone I have a switch which turn off 3G. This puts the phone in Edge mode. Gives me a lot better reception in areas where the 3G signal is flaky. True, I cannot talk and do data at the same time. Also true that my data rate is slower. But I can receive and make calls while I am in that area.

Nope. Both voice and data work on 3G if it is available. You can tell this by the fact that once your phone is on 3G, you will not encounter the annoying speaker buzz from GSM phones.
The switch in the settings are for cell data connection. If you turn it off, it turns off the data connection, 2G or 3G. There is no separate setting to turn off 3G data only (a commonly requested feature but non-existent on all AT&T phones). You will always have to access the secret menu to select your band (WCDMA or GSM).
The bars are for signal strength, not just for vocie service.

AT&T sends both voice and data traffic over the 3G connection when in a 3G area.
The GSM radio only comes into play when the data connection falls back to EDGE (i.e., 3G signal is too weak or not present).
This is why your call drops when you switch from a 3G area to a GSM/EDGE area.
It's a hard hand off to the next tower.

Thanks - would you happen to have any links that explains this in any detail?
I looked around after you mentioned it and found that I should have ran a few more keyword searches before posting. So far, the best explanation that I've found seems to be here:
"3G or Non 3G-that is the question"
http://forums.wireless.att.com/t5/G...at-is-the-question/m-p/1544262/highlight/true
The specific/relevant portion that I'm referring to is:
Yea 3G is amazing. It's the replacement for GSM. It's a completely seperate network. When in 3G at present signal in some area's might seem a bit more week than GSM because in some area's it runs on the 1900mhz frequency which has less penetration. But AT&T has plans of phasing out GSM in the future for 3G on the GSM frequency.
But 3G on the W-CDMA side handles call's and data, GSM also does handle voice and data. But the two networks are seperate. For example. If your phone is in 3G then the 3G network is handling the call and not transmitting anything to do with GSM at all. But if you travel to a non 3G area while in the call then your phone will hand off to the GSM network to continue the voice call and the call quality will get that crackly raspy phenomenom. Hope this helps!

Graywolf,
My friend is a tower manager for T-Mobile.
He helped setup the initial GSM/EDGE network for Cingular back when they leased tower time from T-Mobile while they were making the transition from TDMA devices from the old AT&T network.
He explained how the call handlers worked and how the air interface works when handing off from UMTS/HSPA over to the GSM/EDGE network.
All of AT&T's handsets are programmed to use either GSM/EDGE or UMTS/HSPA, not both at the same time.
The point is, a handset can't have a GSM voice call and an HSPA data session occurring at the same time. The radios are not configured to allow it.
Many towers run both GSM/EDGE radios and UMTS/HSPA/HSPA+ radios.
Mainly to support legacy devices.
You will also notice that the old network is still there when you turn of the 3G radio in an iPhone or any other handset that permits it.
Yes, AT&T is working to decommission the older GSM/EDGE towers all together to recover the 850Mhz frequencies for use with HSPA+. This will give them better building penetration in large metropolitan areas.
Right now, AT&T does use the 1900MHz band for HSPA, and as the residence of NY will tell you, it sucks at going through walls.
You will have to do some digging for old AT&T press releases, but the info is out there.
Gotta give credit where it's due. I appreciate the technical detail combined with layman phrasing. I'll do more digging later but you've given me a nice high-level view of things. I did have a suspicion that my understanding was flawed somehow. Thanks for taking the time to share, rjohnstone!
Yep your right I typed it wrong.. voice and data both work on 2G and 3G, but I know I'm in a 3G area only and when I turn data off 3G goes out. Now that doesn't mean I'm only making or recieving calls on the 2G band. It just mean 3G data is off. So if you want to turn off 3G all together, I don't see it on these phones yet. When I turn the celluar data back on, the 3G symbol comes back on, because it would be pretty dumb for the 3G to be controlled by turning data on and off.

Poor internet on Telstra Australia

I have had my SGSII for about 6 weeks now. Running it on the Telstra Next G network.
The problem is I am having a shocking internet experience.
My experience is based after coming from the HD2 running Android.
I have had the network freeze a few times. This is identified by the traffic arrows stay stuck. Airplane mode and back resets.
Basically cloud based apps like Market, Maps etc takes ages (60s-5mins) to start up. Kill and re-launch is quick).
Lots of network errors in Google Market.
Lots of Server unreachable errors in Emails (Pointing to exchange 2007)
I have updated the APN details to use Telstra.internet.
Great reception at home and work.
Calls and SMS's are fine.
Ideas? Waiting to see the Cyanogen rom. Wondering if my experience is due to Kies or another program getting involved with internet.
Any ideas please. My HD2 ran with the same Sim and worked like a rocket. No such issues.
Have you tried turning fast dormancy off? I'm on the Optus network, but I found with fast dormancy on I was getting unreliable internet (market would timeout a lot, doing installs/updates would fail straight away, etc). When I turned it off, I got better speeds and the connections were reliable.
Turn fast dormancy off:
1. In dialer - *#9900#
2. Select Disable fast dormancy
no such issues for me, using a vodafone branded handset. The only thing is that it will occassionally use 3telstra instead of telstra, in which case i need to manually select the network. a bit of a pain but not 2 bad

****************** FIXED ******************
After contacting Samsung for an insane period of time (ended up on an international call to England i think... or now that i think about it could have just been some English guy in Aus lol) I have got an official explanation and confirmation that this issue is being looked into for KE8 (but it appears that KE8 has been launched in India already so it might be KE9).
*disclaimer*
I am no expert on mobile technology this in-depth however the (probably very) dumbed down version the Samsung guy told me was this;
*end disclaimer*
The problem stems from the fact that this phone has 3 forms of data connection, 3G, HSDPA, and HSPA+.
3G is what we have all had since 3/Telstra launch 10 years ago.
HSDPA is the 7.2mbps connections that we got after that.
HSPA+ is the full fledged 42mbps Next G stuff that only Telstra has.
The problem is, when you are just using the phone as "a phone" it idles on a 3G connection to save battery and when you initiate a data connection it flicks on to the higher connection protocols for better speed.
What is supposed to happen when you initiate the data connection is the phone checks for H+ connection, then for H and then finally 3G. For some reason if you arent with Telstra or are in an area without HSPA+ the phone gets hung up for too long attempting to initiate the H+ connection and refuses to drop back to H!
Also, even if it does give up on H+ it then has an issue with falling back to 3G. Resulting in the problem that if it cant get H+ or the tower is too flooded for a H connection you get absolutely nothing until you restart the data mode within the phone, renegotiates with the tower and BAM, you are back in business.
So... there are 5 fixes;
1. Wait for KE9 (or what ever firmware fixes the modem timings etc)
2. Get a Telstra sim and never leave an area that has H+
3. Turn off/on data mode whenever it happens
to which i told him they were stupid answers and completely unacceptable, but then he came out with this complete gem!
4. using service code *#301279# you can turn off HSPA+ completely forcing it to start the data connections on HSDPA
5. using *#301279# again you can just turn off HSPA+ and HSDPA meaning it instantly starts downloading the data on 3G without delay
Now yes, i thought... great... ive bought this $779 phone that has all the latest and greatest technology and I cant even use it! But, I did some testing!
First of all my normal sim is Vodafone so turning off HSPA+ is an obvious one for me, im never going to get it so why bother. So now that the phone only attempts to get a connection with HSDPA the need to turn off and on data connection was getting more and more rare but still having the problem (i have a feeling that is due to congestion?). So i bumped it down to 3G only and it works perfectly 100% of the time!
The point of these faster connection protocols is speed so i did testing.
Vodafone sim, 4 bars of signal in the middle of a shopping centre.
HPSA+ turned on = 4mbps down, 1mbps up
HSDPA turned on = 4mbps down, 1mbps up
3G only = 3.5mbps down, 1mbps up
did this over and over and over again and to be perfectly honest, im willing to lose 500kbps to make sure that data always works and if you are just doing general web browsing the time it takes to initiate the HSDPA connection wastes more time than the slightly slower speeds with 3G does.
Now obviously this only works fine in my situation, if you are with Telstra and going from HSPA+ down to 3G means going from 20mbps to 3... i would be pissed. But for the rest of the country you are talking about a loss of less than 1mbps so in real world situations with just small amounts of burst data its fine
TLDR; Try and go online and the 3G up arrow lights up but never actually downloads anything
Dial: *#301279# – Change HSPA revision – Release 5 HSPDA only
test, if still a problem
Dial: *#301279# – Change HSPA revision – Release R99 HSPA off

****************** FIXED ******************
After contacting Samsung for an insane period of time (ended up on an international call to England i think... or now that i think about it could have just been some English guy in Aus lol) I have got an official explanation and confirmation that this issue is being looked into for KE8 (but it appears that KE8 has been launched in India already so it might be KE9).
*disclaimer*
I am no expert on mobile technology this in-depth however the (probably very) dumbed down version the Samsung guy told me was this;
*end disclaimer*
The problem stems from the fact that this phone has 3 forms of data connection, 3G, HSDPA, and HSPA+.
3G is what we have all had since 3/Telstra launch 10 years ago.
HSDPA is the 7.2mbps connections that we got after that.
HSPA+ is the full fledged 42mbps Next G stuff that only Telstra has.
The problem is, when you are just using the phone as "a phone" it idles on a 3G connection to save battery and when you initiate a data connection it flicks on to the higher connection protocols for better speed.

THIS IS A GREAT POST (even if it is a repost from whirlpool)!
So many people appear to be having this issue (including myself on O2 UK) where the data connection is stalling.
That code (*#301279#) is a gem.
Whilst I am certainly not happy that Samsung have released this phone with such a massive issue (telling you to wait until KE9 for a fix is really quite terrible!), I would rather have this fix in the meantime whilst waiting for the new firmware.
I have just disabled H/H+ by selecting 'Release 99 HSPA off' and my stalling issues have disappeared. Furthermore, my down speed is still 1.5 Mbps and upload speed is also 1.5 Mbps. I am more than happy with that speed. As the quoted post states, if you want more than this speed, this solution will not be good for you.
Thanks for posting this dusty_nw, this has been bugging me for weeks.

If you have it enabled it will fall from H to 3G in 7 seconds when connection is idle, otherwise in 30 seconds. 7 seconds are to short it will lose time and battery renegotiating to H to often. Ex: when you read your rss feed it will renegtiate higher speed for every article you read, very annoying.

this should be stickied, fixed my issues i had on optus the connection would continually change from H, and 3g and stall i just disabled all except 3g and now its perfect and very quick great post!
One thing i did on mine with Telstra is change the APN from Telstra.wap to Telstra.internet made the internet feel better. Also got much better upload and download speeds.

May be a sillt question but.
I used the stock dialer and put *#301279# in
Menu popped up.
Used my finger to press "[2] Change HSPA Revision"
Pressed "[2] Release 5"
Goes to menu with two options of which none seem to do anything when pushed.
Went back to strat of menu and selected "[1] Release R99"
Same options and none can be clicked.
So am I not doing this right? Have the changes been made with no signs or message? If they have changed how do I get them back?
I expected the option to change to visually say its "off" or something.
Although no message came up it appears my phone is staying in 3g so maybe it worked... Although I am in low reception visiting the country side so maybe they don't have H or H+ anyway....
If I selected the first option does this restrict data to 3G?
Select 2nd option for H?
or Select 3rd option for H+ or unrestricted?
Is this how its works?
Edit: I have now found it works like I thought. The screen after I click either of the options then shows what is active and is the confirmation in a way. I jumped on the forum a little too quick......
Hi. I've book marked this because I get this issue thanks.
However it is worth noting that difference between 6 and 5 is only hsupa which is upload. So you wouldn't expect change in download speeds changing that going back to 3g of course affects both directions.

Telstra.iph works best for me in Perth.
I use a SGS2 (bought in Europe through Expansys) on Telstra since 2 months now, without any issue. I used several firmwares and kernels since then (not to test, just to update: KE7, KG2, KG3), all behaved the same way.
I tried two different APN (telstra.iph and telstra.wap), both gave me the same kind of speeds (quite good, except some times in the middle of the day).
I never found the datas to create the telstra.internet APN (they do not seem to be on ausdroid). Could someone point me to them?
As an aside, I've just finished testing the I9000TDUKF4 modem (yes it works!), if Telstra did actually have tweaks made as they claim, there was no discernible difference on Telstra's NextG using their 'T' version KF4 modem and a stock KG3.
Any changes if any must be on the hardware level or via software set tweaks, the modem really didn't make any difference at all to my download speeds.
For those wanting to replicate the experiment or muck around I've uploaded the Telstra 'T' variant KF4 modem here: http://www.multiupload.com/VKPFYPURD5

Thanks for this, I just stumbled upon this thread, messed about with a few settings and getting much better use out of NEXT G
Cheers

Samsung's Amazing Support may be the key to people with broken data!

I was looking in the Samsung whirlpool forums for a separate issue but came across a possible solution for a problem I've had on my Atrix since day one here in Australia.
Problem:
When I connect to data, the upload arrow will get 'stuck' and time-out forcing me to restart my phone / toggle airplane mode to gain data again
My Question:
Is it possible for someone to track down the service code that allows me to disable/change HSPA revision numbers for the Motorola Atrix? (see proposed solution for the codes needed)
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Infact I'd probably paypal you some money as soon as I get it since this has been such an outstanding issue for so so long for me!

Didn't Atrix radios from stone age have this disabled? I'm not sure though, I didn't participate in here back then; maybe a forum elder can comment on it.
Dumb question but did you try those codes (the numbers only) like this *#*#number#*#*?
sent via tapatalk from my CM7 Atrix
*#*#4636#*#* gets you into some phone options. From there you can select a bunch of options. Not sure if there is anything in there you're looking for.
the codes in the *#*# format doesn't work, it just deletes the number when I finish typing it.. and the other menu 4636 doesn't have the options I'm looking for but thank you both for your suggestions
