Just got my t-mobile MDA replaced, (broke old one) and want to update the ROM to a more recent one. I currently have 1.8. Do I need to unlock the phone 1st?
Can someone point me to the step-by-step directions to get the rom updated? Also, where do I download the official t-mobile rom. I know there are customised roms out there, but would like to start with the official one. 2.26?

The newbie with too much time here...(again) , I got a few questions due to a prob i'm havin. i Just bought a T-Mobile MDA from eBay for my wife and need to unlock it for cingular. i followed the procedure as I did with my 8125 however it won't give. i repeated the steps to ensure i did it just as advised and the result was the same. Upon looking over everything in frustration i realized that it had already been loaded with T-Mobile ROM ver. 2.26 . So my questions basically are as follows:
(1) does the fact that it's got a more updated rom mean i need a newer version of lokiwiz than 02?
(2) what the frig do i do to get this bugger to where i can go back the "simple" process of unlocking and loading the new titanium rom?
and finally...
(3) If i am doing something wrong can someone guide me in the right direction with a few "parently words of advice" for my new adventure?
Any help would be greatly appreciated

NVM!!
I goofed i overlooked a earlier post that showed that the rom can me CID unlocked by unlicking the SIMlock with the new LOkiwiz3 then downgrading to an older Standard rom then running the old Lokiwiz2 then ur free to load whatever floats ur boat(as long as you remember there is still the possibility to "Brick" ur device, so take care). I have Cingular 8125, I used one of your methord and unlocked the Sim, I could used T-Mobile SIM and it works. Also I ran CID umlockd.
Here is my question for grat experts.
I see many many Rom upgrade, don't know which one to start with . I do not want to make 8125 as Door step.
I try with one of ROM, I get error 262
Any link or direction would be realy helpfull and appreciate all your hard work.

Did you mean 8525? I hope so. If you really mean 8125, then you need to get yourself over to the WIZARD forum. You will have a brick if you flash 8525 ROM onto your 8125.

you can consider yourself lucky you only got an error and not a paperweight....
go to the wizard forum and in my opinion, as a 8125 owner until 2 days ago, flash the TNT 1933 rom.

Yeah. Lots of good ROMs to choose from... vp3G, Schaps, Custel (has a new one), you really cannot go wrong with the last batch. Haven't really tried any of the other new ones, but they are all very stable now.
Check THESE GUIDES for upgrade assistance.
Do I need to unlock AT&T 8525 or simply load new ROM ?

You shouldn't HAVE to unlock it - the updater will do all the work. Check out the guides I linked in my previous post - it wil make the process easier, more clear and safer.
Do U have 8125 or 8525?
I have both. I just load tnt-1933 fro 8125, look cool.
I also have 8525, I need clear instruction for that, I do not like to messed up.

I'm going to be sending my T-Mobile Vario II back to HTC for repair as the paint is flaking off it and im not happy with it.
can people please tell me how to restore the phone back to factory defaults in terms of SPL/IPL and everything else?
the upgrade i have chosen is the T-Mob official WM6 one and will be upgrading that once i know it wont brick.
i just need guidance on restoring stock SPL

A friend of mine just got his HD2 on O2 and I suggested he flash his rom to 1.66.
Is this possible to do and also possible to flash back to the generic O2 rom in case he needs to send the phone back to O2?
Does he need to back up the O2 rom and how or is it available to download somewhere?
Finally I believe he should use either hard SPL or soft SPL if he wants to revert to O2 rom but can't remember which.
Any leads or advice appreciated.
perfectly possible.go find the"official roms"thread, first post first link look in 1.43 section for the file with o2 in the name, that is your stock rom for backup.put that somewhere safe, then go read the several hspl threads to learn how to flash.
If your phone's working then you can easily flash it back to factory ROM, but if it's working why would you want to send it back for repair anyway?
That said, NoClue are very poor when it comes to supporting the products they happily take significant amounts of cash each month from you bank account for, so it would not be unreasonable in the eyes of "the average man" if you updated your phone with the firmware provided directly from the hardware manufacturer.
