Any of you T-Wing users have probably grown to hate the startup sound; I know I have. I've been fiddling around in the registry and figured out how to get rid of it:
\\HKLM\Software\HTC\StartupAnimation\WAVFile
It points to the startup wav file, I just deleted the value and voila'! Soft reset, no annoying sound effect.
One could also use this to point to a sound of their choice too, I would imagine...
Hope it helps!
Ryan
Hmmm. Any idea what "Enabled" means in there? And what the effect of making that value 0 has?
Edit: Well, it worked for removing the sound, which is great. I tried to specify a new gif for the boot screen, and it still booted with the t-mobile one though. Also, tried the 0 in the "Enabled" key, and it doesn't seem to have any effect at all. :-\ If we can edit that sound, there's just gotta be a way to edit the pic. Guess I'll fish around the registry.
editing the image does work, but the t-mobile screen comes on first then your edited image comes on later on before the windows mobile startup screen. you can have animated gifs to startup also.

Hi guys,
After getting a bit pee'd off with the busy tone playing loud over the speaker whenever you try to ring someone who is already on a call, I started looking around in the registry and found the key to disable it:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER/ControlPanel/Sounds/BusyTone
Change the Script entry so that theres nothing in there.
That'll at least stop the annoying noise!

When you say "disable" it and "Change the Script" do you mean take the whole line out - delete it ?
Thanks.
Edit the Script entry so that it doesnt have any text in it - but leave Script there so that it still exists.

Done and hope it will work -won't know until I call someone who is on the phone and does not have call waiting.
Thanks a lot.
Hi,
New here. I have been learning a lot from everyone here, Thanks!
I seem to have a problem though.... Every Hack so far that I try to implement won't work. Here are 2 examples:
Change Reg Keys for Left Soft button. I want it to point to my Agenda Fussion Calender instead of the Windows calender. So I change the Key to point to the AF exe location, being very careful to leave "" and to type path in precisely. I save the change and soft reset the device to see if it works...NOPE....When I go back into the registry to see what happened, the registry key is changed back to point to the microsoft calender. I have even closed the reg editor and reopend to check the change before the soft reset. Before the re-set my change is still there, but not after....
I have tried both PHMRegedit and TascalRegedit.
I have a US version of the MDA with ROM version# 2.26.10.2 WWE
Next problem I wanted to stop the system tray from showing up. So I removed the shortcut for Init_Tray from the startup menu....Well the tray still shows up. Now looking in the startup menu the shortcut is no longer there, but it still launches the tray!
What Am I doing wrong here? I see people making these same hacks and they work for them.
A little background on me. I have been entrenched in computers since 1983. Doing my share of programming (though nothing since I was kid...). I have been using pocket pcs for the last 2 years. With Toshiba 740's and e800's. So I am capable of doing this stuff. But for some reason I can't get these things to work...
Any help? Sorry for being so long winded
on your registry problem.. after changing the value manually, let the phone sleep or just sit there for a few minutes before soft resetting.. There is a delay write to the registry...
Thanks ShogunMark
I need to be more patient. I did this just before I read your reply...The hack for the soft button is now working the way I want. Now to get rid of the bottom system tray.
Thanks again!!
im not sure if you can exactly get rid of the system try completely in WM5.. however i could be wrong... i think at most you can only get rid of the icons in it.. but it does prove very useful for placing shortcuts..
I recently modified the registry on my ATT 8525 to eliminate the SMS Sent notification message (thanks to those that posted the info here, it's a god send!)
Anyways, during the process I inadvertently modified the wrong notification line and now I do not get any notifications when my alarm clock goes off (other than it going off to wake me up). I can't snooze it or even turn it off though, as the notification prompt doesn't appear.
I now have to turn off the volume, modify sounds/notifications to all off, and wait about two hours for the system to stop activitating the alarm. Needless to say I've missed many a phone call during this two hour "silent" timeframe.
Can anyone tell me where this is and what the setting should be?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Hmmmm... after looking over the wiki I can't see that you affected anything else in that directory...
Was the change you made in the HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Settings directory???
You might need to hard reset to get rid of the problem (resetting the registry back to stock). But I would wait to see if anyone else here has info that could help you.
I suggest you look around and get the palm threaded sms app (you can warez it well!).... Its the best thing since sliced bread! (Just make sure to change the default mms settings, original .cab was based on sprint network, but its very easy to change)
My two cents...

I don't recall. What I did was change what I thought was the setting. Then I sent a text. It didn't work, so I changed it back and started over. I did this three times. I think I changed something and forgot to change it back? Problem is I don't know what I didn't change back
I really don't want to do a hard reset, but I'm getting to that point. Now my phone alarm won't go off -- I think there are too many notifications back logged. When I soft reset it sounds like it's trying to play 100 alarms all at once
Can anyone else help out?
Indeed it may have happened anyway as the notification queue does get clogged. So before a hard reset you could clear duplicates using the likes of Scarybear Check Notifications (freeware) OR Sktools OR Memmaid neither free but have many other features beside clearing duplicate notifications.
Mike
Thanks for the advice...however, I can remove the notifications HKCU\System\State but it's only temporary. (scarybear does not list that program on their site any longer)
I really need to find out how to get notifications turned back on!
I know it's a reg edit that I missed changing back, I just don't know which one as I didn't realize the problem for a couple of days.
Anyone else have any help? Surely someone out there knows where these notifications are in the registry
Personally I say just take an hour of your free time and hard reset. Make sure everything is all good.
You might also use a program like HTCustom to do the regedit for you next time. That way you won't inadvertantly change anything.
Well I was really hoping to avoid a hard reset when all I need to do it make one simple registry change But it does appear that I may have to do it since no one seems to know where this change needs to take place.
I've probably spent an hour going through the registry looking for anything that could possibly be the alarm notification, but I've had no success.
Thanks to those of you that offered advice, I do appreciate it. Guess it's time to bite the bullet.
Hey,
I am a new Mogul user, and I know the rules, I searched....but I could not find what I was looking for exactly.
I would like to do two things
1) Replace the Windows Mobile 6 screen when the phone is reset or starts up
2) Replace the chime that goes along with the 6.0 starup.
Using PHM I was able to find the following key
HKLM\Software\HTC\StartupAnimation
Under this there is a WAVFile key that defaults to \windows\startup_sounds.wav
I changed this, but I still hear the WM6 Chime and not my sound.
Any help?
I wonder how would one add a startup sound to an XV6800. It is a default for Sprint.
A good project to start.
update:
So I have played around with the registry and still can't find a way to play a startup sound.
I will include a screen shot from a kaisers registry settings (black)
and the XV6800 (blue)
I have an extra entry. Could that be the reason why it doesn't work? Any Ideas?
Has everyone givin up on this?
Hi all
I am kind of new to this, so I hope I have put the thread in the right place. I have searched for some of the answers, but can not find them, or the threads are 100s of pages long and knowing where to look is a nightmare.
I decided to update my phone with the latest official HTC Roms from their website (2.53.405.5 (76952) WWE). Unfortunately there are a few things that I like the old way, and now I am not sure if I can go back to the original Rom that came with the phone.
- I now can not use custom sounds for my message alerts, I have put them with all the others, and made them to be the same file size, mono and all that, and they don't show up. I can use them for ring tones, but not message alerts.
- I used to have the message alert light set to constantly flash until I had read the message, so if I am away from the phone I could tell I have a message. That bit is still there, but it is grayed out so I can't have it.
- When I lock, unlock the phone, go through the menus and go back to the "Today" screen the clock will go from say 10:13, to 09:13, then will roll forward to 10:11 and then the last two minute digits will roll over to 10:12, 10:13 again? Why is this.
- Is there any way of removing the weather from the "Today" screen, it looks very nice, but the phone seems to come to a grinding halt and that added with the time thing mentioned above is also very irritating.
If anyone knows ways around these it would be much appreciated, if not is there a way of returning to the original Rom that the phone came with, I notice the HTC website said it was not possible.
Thanks in advance.

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Notifications\{A877D65B-239C-47a7-9304-0D347F580408}]
"AvailableOptions"=dword:4000000F
+ SR and then you can change the value

Hi spigot, thanks for the help.
I have installed the cab for the silly rolling animation, and that has sorted that out.
I have installed a program called FdcSoft TaskMgr wm2005_3.1 to alter the registry values, and have found the "AvailableOptions" one, but don't seem to be able to alter it.

Drop the sounds you want for messages directly into thw windows folder. they will be available.
Thank you codhunter, it worked .
Not sure why they would change it between roms / versions, it used to go in the tones or whatever it was called with my original one.
Also your changing the value in available options to 15 for the message LED notification worked, couldn't work spigots out above.
Thanks
Glad to be of help
i'm just learning too, SQueal. Stick with the new rom. any problems you have will soon get ironed out with the helpful guys on here!!!
SQueal: Try to use TotalCommander with it's plugin registry editor. I did it many times without any problem.
To remove weather from today tab look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=656240
how can I enter the registry with totalCommander?
You must download the plugin registry editor, using Total commander's settlings.

You don't need any plugins. Registry editor is part of total commander. If you press "\" button in uppert right corner (in total commander), you'll get to root part and the first folder is called "\\Plugins", there you can find FTP, LAN and registry editor plugins.
Has anyone else noticed how much smaller the sms text message is? You have the ability to change the text size for the ones you read, and the one in with the screen alignment, but the text still seems really small.
Is there a way of doing this in the registry as well?
