I hope it helps. I am using a Palm Treo 700p as my Athena's dial-up modem because of EV-DO speed and cheap rate ($30 for unlimited data).
now a days might work better usinbg a windows mobile based device of which verizon offer a few. with wm wifi router

It would be really neat to be able to put my Wizard into 'host' mode on the wifi, and share my EDGE access out to wifi clients nearby. It'd be like having my own wifi hotspot in my pocket.
Is this possible?
this post and most others like them gets ignored by most of this forum.
Or so it seems from my month on and off reading.
Ofcoarse this is possible?
will software or service agreements allow it? most likly not.

I wonder why, I think its a nice thing to have, and there exists AP with 3g cards like LINKSYS WRT54G3G
/L
with software it would be possible i think
just a matter of making the device rount
the wifi to the connection
but edge and even 3g is not really fast enough to share with anybody without comming down to a crawl
which is prob why there have been no demand and so
no developing for the field
gprs/edge > BT > PC >WiFi > WLAN
easy to do, conect to data service throught your computer with BT or USB then in settings share internet connection (via Wifi) with other users.

another painfull way, but may work for u.
I think it has something to do either with no one caring/caring about terms of service possibly.
I have the colonels rom that includes the wmwifirouter and internet sharing app... but the question has to do with the internet sharing settings... should it be set to phone as modem or sprintpcs? and as far as I could stand reading on here(on pie) the wmwifirouter does the hacks for you.. I am just worried with the internet sharing settings...
Hi well al depends on what you want to acomplish if you use the sprint pcs and you conect to your computer you may experience low performance on the internet bwcuause the speed is low banwith for phones if you use as a modem you will have maybe a banwith about 1mbs to 1.4mbs but if you havent hack the registry sprint will se the modem connection and makes you paid for the air time and it is 40 per month and if you dont have the service it is a lot more per kilobite so be ware of that....
Now, "Off the record"... is there a way (Potentially) that I could (Potentially) connect my (hypothetical) laptop to my (Hypothetical) cellular plan if I just (hypothetically)have the AT&T PDA Data plan?
Yes, I would basically circumventing AT&T services and probably violating the EULA or whatever... but I just don't need the bandwidth of a full data plan on an EEE (all this ownership and service being hypothetical of course... okay, I'll stop)
Better yet, can I put my Sim card in one of those USB dongles and have it access the 3G network... even though I only have the PDA plan?
Any input would be nice.
thanks,

[EDIT: Oh yeah, it's in an HTC Hermes/8525/Tytn 1 right now, and that has a wifi antenna... I can plug it in via usb, but haven't found a program or Firmware that would let me share internet on it. I've tried WMWifiRouter with the registry changes (Wifi instead of BT for ICS...) but hasn't worked for meh ]
You can use internet connection sharing. The original at&t roms have it hidden in the windows folder. I not sure what roms are available for your phone but I know when I flash to wm6.1 with my tytn II (not an official ATT Rom), Internet connection sharing was readily available at under my programs list.

PDANET FTW
I know this seems almost pointless...But I have both the Diamond 2 on att, with an unlimited data plan, and the Droid Eris through a pre paid. I want to know if it is possible to use the "Wi-Fi Router" on the Diamond 2 to share internet with my Droid Eris?
Ive tried a few times, and I think it might have to do with the Diamond2 showing ps as IBSS ad hoc connection.
Is there another way? or is it even possible to begin with?
The reason is just so that if I run out of data on the prepaid, I can connect to the Diamond2 if i really need to if im not near a wifi spot.
I dunno if this helps but I tethered my xperia to my blackberry by using the blackberry as a "bluetooth modem". I'm not sure if theres such a setting in android (probably)
Take a look, see if it can be done without wifi
thanks, but im trying to connect through my Diamond 2 and unfortunately android doesnt ask me what services I want to use when they are paired.
Android does not connect to ad-hoc connections out of the box. You need to root your Eris. But as far as I can tell, no one has figured out to root it yet.
I'm trying the same thing...
But my setup is attempting to use internet sharing or the WMWiFi application to share internet to the bluetooth of a Samsung Propel Pro to the bluetooth of an older Samsung Blackjack with no sim card. Just to get the older BJ to see the internet, but I can't see to get Bluetooth PAN working on the setup.
Is this possible to do? What am I missing?
anyone got an idea. this would be a cool trick to do. Cheapest VOIP Cheapest VOIP calls
i know that if u can put both connection to ur pc from wifi with both or to wifi with on and usb with the other. in network connections u can "bridge" the connection
I'm looking for the cheapest phone that works with T-Mobile 3G and can be used as a WiFi hotspot. I like my current phone, but it doesn't have a WiFi hotspot feature, so I just want something cheap where I can swap SIM cards when tethering is needed.
I have a grandfathered T-Mobile account with a $10 unlimited data plan called Web2go. Web2go doesn't work with most Android phones, so my choices are Windows Mobile and Symbian.
Do either HTC WiFi Router or WMWiFiRouter work with the T-Mobile HTC Dash 3G? I have see lots of conflicting reports. Some people say it works, some say it doesn't.
Does anyone here have any personal experience and can attest to it working or not? Is there a special trick to make it work?
...or, does anyone have any other ideas for an alternate phone? These seem to go for under $40 used on ebay, so currently it's my leading candidate.
Thanks!
Just in case anyone was following this thread -- I ended up ordering a used Dash 3G and answering my own question.
HTC Wifi Router -- Doesn't work.
WMWifiRouter -- Does work.
Not sure if it's a hardware or software limitation, but WMWiFiRouter only supports WEP encryption on the Dash 3G, but it also supports USB connection, and the connection driver installs automatically without needing to download from the internet.
WMWifiRouter was made free a couple months ago when the Windows Mobile Marketplace shutdown. I learned about this from this thread on slickdeals.net: http://slickdeals.net/f/4747668-WMWifi-Router-Free-Windows-Mobile-Hotspot-program
Their website seems to be down at the moment. They may have shut it down completely.

I have the installer hosted on my skydrive here.
